#Hokies have moved Bucky Hodges permanently from quarterback to tight end. Impressed there with scout team. Coaches see big upside.β Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) February 20, 2014
Can we get all the bad reverse Logan Thomas comparisons out of the way now?

What's the backup TE's name? ML fans need to know!
Good sentient, Joe but, you know it won't happen.
It's too simple.
I love the TE corps next year. We've went from a guy who had played one year of football and some converted DL to now being solidly 3 deep, maybe 4 (XBurke was seen as very under-radar pickup last year).
So this hodges guy is a tight end huh....can he play QB?
Can Kline and Malleck?
Tight ends make good offensive linemen- Curt Newsome
"Tight ends make good offensive linemen" -

I think I speak for all the idiots when I say: Logan Thomas was a TE and moved to QB. Bucky Hodges was a QB and moved to TE. rabble-rabble-rabble-rabble-poor coaching-rabble-rabble-recruiting-rabble-development-rabble-o'springscain-rabble-rabble-Beamer's old-rabble-size comparisons.
That said, our TE department will be in good shape in 2014.
I think we all saw this coming. But seriously, I walked past the guy a few days ago on campus, and he's freaking huge. Granted, I'm pretty short, but I can see him reaching 20 feet in the air to catch a pass and not have any trouble doing it. I think he'll do quite well at the new position.
I hear he's 7-foot-16 by now
Oh. Just saw the same jokes were made below. Welp.
I laughed, so +1
I just upvoted them all.
Good man.
Next Jimmy Graham? I'm telling myself yes.
Bucky Hodges just grew 2 inches as I was typing this....
By the time we convert him back to QB in 2016, he will be over 7 feet tall...
I heard he was 7 feet already.
He is now...he was only 6'11" when you posted this.
Imagine...we could have the first 7 ft QB in NCAA history...
guys guys, he is 6' 14"
6'20", weighs a f@#$ing ton
and if he were here, he would kill the english with lightning bolts from his eyes. . . and fireballs from his arse!
I heard he once held an opponents wife's hand... in a jar of acid... at a birthday party
DUDE, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
i watched this for like a week straight my freshman year
7 feet tall. 7 feet wide. Instead of 6' 6" 260, there's now... 7 by 7, 370!
He makes Jimmy Graham look small.
now that he's a TE ... I'm wondering how he might do as a QB.
Athletes ball no matter where you put em.
I like Bucky for being a team player and switched position to help the team. Hopefully it all works out for him and catches a lot of TDs for the hokies .
I hope he catches lots of TD for the Ravens.
+1 for the ravens!
Don't deny my Bucky touchdowns
You don't see many 4* QBs becoming TEs...
true but not unheard of. hell, kiehl frazier was a five star for auburn and he's playing safety now.
Heath Miller predated the Rivals rating system, but he was a 6'5 240 QB and has had a great career as a TE. Just ask DeAngelo "I lost to UVA" Hall. He still cowers at the thought of hitting Miller on a drag route.
I wish there were more SWVA success stories in recent years.
Only French has the credibility to talk up a Wahoo while simultaneously putting down a Famous Hokie. Although It is very very true.
French > George Washington?
No need to throw a dig at Hall when talking about Miller.
To be fair, I really think Hall has been more than deserving of a dig or two over the course of his college and NFL career.
AS A REDSKINS FAN YES YES AND YES
This
There is no former Hokie that I have less respect for in terms of their on the field ability vs their production. His play in that UVA game was the most gutless, cowardly effort I have ever seen from a VT player with his ability. Even though I am not a Redskins fan, living in DC and seeing him perform erratically only reenforces that opinion. I have heard that he is a good guy off the field (he married a girl from Washington County) but he will be forever on my list of guys I just couldn't root for.
I agree with French here. He will always be MeAngelo in my opinion
What about MV5?
He said"respect for in terms of their on the field ability vs their production".
I don't think anybody has a problem with MV5 production.
Marcus Davis gets my vote for the "Me First Award". I think Hall has consistently had a survivalist mentality to preserve himself from injury. Right or wrong from a play making stand point he still was/is considered a top DB in the league. And a lot of other players have that same outlook on playing the game.
FWIW, Heath Miller was ranked No. 14 in Virginia by the Roanoke Times in 2001 as a QB. Bucky Hodges was No. 13 in Virginia in 2013 per 247 Sports composite rankings.
Miller put 3 guys from PH in the ambulance when I was coaching there in '99. Physical freak!!!!!
Speaking of UVA TE's, I believe their current TE Jake McGee came in as a QB too.
Na he was a TE/DE when he came in
I don't think AB has posted it here yet, so I'll leave this link for the half dozen or so of you who aren't on twitter.

Far and away my favorite part of the article is the bit where Stinespring is talking about Bud calling him over while watching practice film. "Hey, Stiney! Come here!" That's really funny to picture. Also, we very well may be looking at quite a stud here at TE, not just a QB-reject-who-we-had-to-find-a-position-for TE.
I was a little late to the party on this one. Was going to post this, but you beat me to it.
Or did he...
By 3 minutes... My bad, Andy. I got excited. By all means, please, make an original thread. It's a great article; it'd be a shame if it got buried here.
Meh. Doesn't need to be two threads on it. Was just going to post it on this one anyway.
This just feels like another small, positive step forward for the offence. This gives us some good depth assuming Ryan is back. I expect continued improvement of the line under Searles. QB is a question mark, but I think we've got some good, young talent. Receiver is the only spot I still don't feel great about. Overall I'm happy with the improvement we've seen in the past year.
Bucky was making a lot of one-handed catches against a top 5 hokie defense. I doubt he's only 6'6" and 240 lb.
Hey, if Bud and Stiney are willing to compare him to Ebron, sign me up.
Having a 6 foot whatever bulky TE that can block and make one handed grabs against our secondary?
Rons a G.
Hopefully he'll be a big part of the spring game, that way we can get a look at him.
The Hubble telescope has some great Bucky pics if you need to get a look.
Now we just need to get a few more TEs...and run the 11 man TE offense.
I can't wait for the TE to hit the TE on a crossing pattern who then laterals to the TE as he walks in for the TD.
And they're all named Bucky Hodges?
The year is 2016, and Scot Loeffler's revolutionary evil genius offense has finally come together.....
Quarterbacks at every position on the field.
Oh what's that? You want to rush the QB?
Quick flick out to Sam Rogers.
But oh no! Rogers is getting tackled!
Throw to Carlis Parker on the screen.
Egads! DB's are closing in fast!
Cross-field throw to Bucky Hodges who screened out.
No one around him. He could run it....but WAIT! EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT THE ACTUAL QB.
LONG BOMB 4 SO MANY TD-IES.
Homer: OK. After you vibrate that way, two of you fall down. Nelson, you spin around in a circle.
of the hundreds of Simpsons episodes ... easily in the top 5 of all time.
Right up there with the Poochy and Pinchy episodes...
"you're cut.., he's cut ... Milhouse: cut,...cut... Groenig: cut!..."
There's just too many cuts here. I'm going to make a list.
"...you tried harder than anyone else here...that's why it was so hard to cut you."
QB: Ford
HB: Durkin
FB: Rogers
TE: Bucky
WR: McMillian
WR: Parker
WR: Motley
so basically we would have plays like this. only with a football
Poor Caleb. Already forgotten.
I was trying to find somewhere to put him.
he said 'Egads'
Play action out of a power I set.
Mallek, Klein, Hodges, Rogers, Edmnuds... lots o options.
I think Loefler wants play makers. Bucky was/is a play maker, not necessarily a QB.
I'll get this started then #Bucky4Heisman
Double pass. Double reverse. Triple reverse?
If Hodges is the real deal, I would love to see the Hokies run two tight ends on offense. Maybe run some stuff like Stanford did in the Orange Bowl with their tight ends. Harbaugh ate Coach Bud's lunch in the 2nd half of that game, and it started with tight ends running that sick seam route.
With Bucky, Kline, Mallek, Xavier or Redman, four Tight Ends on some plays would be even better.
With Kline and Malleck at a minimum I would expect to see some two tight end sets next year.
I FORMATION. TWIN TIGHT ENDS. POUND THE ROCK. MANBALL.
Seriously.... What are Bucky's measurables? I read somewhere that he was closer to 6'8" now. Does anybody have proof of this?
It's kind of tough to get a solid measurement with him since every time someone even thinks about him he grows an inch.
7'3"
Can we at least still call it "Bucky Ball" when he makes a big play?
a chemist are you?
We know he has those...
Sounds better than Bucky Wanker....
If Scot Loeffler couldnt fix Bucky's mechanics as a Qb, then he was meant to be a tight end. He will be a nightmare 4 opposing teams.
The endzone: "The Buck Stops Here!"
I saw Bucky today at the ball game. That guy is huge. All joking aside, he looks to be 6'7 easily
