I've always found that the biggest insult to a sports team is when there are more visitors' fans in attendence than home fans.
HOW ABOUT THIS. What if we start a new tradition for the HOKIE NATION... lets make it an annual event for Hokies to attend UVA's spring game! Can you imagine the humiliation that would bring. Hopefully they play on a different day than the Hokies' spring game of course. GO HOKIES!!!

There may be more fans at the LOLUVA game than actual players....this courtesy of the Daily Progress:
The Cavaliers will be without a bevy of players this spring because of injuries. Among them, linebackers Daquan Romero (shoulder) and Demeitre Brim (shoulder), defensive end Trent Corney (shoulder) and running back Daniel Hamm.
Offensive lineman Jay Whitmire will miss the first two weeks of spring because of a medical procedure, but is expected to return prior to the April 12 Orange-Blue Game.
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman George Adeosun will undergo a second knee surgery
Additionally:
Long-snapper Matt Fortin will not play his fifth year at UVa as he has opted to pursue an opportunity with the Navy SEALS
Maybe the hoos will bring in Cutler's dad to help them with a 7 on 7 format for the spring game.

the flag pole was there through 1998, i believe, maybe just 1997. they would sometimes put temp bleachers in the NEZ, but only for big games. usually just a grass area above the wall with the flag pole. it's come a long way!

I remember they used to put a cameraman up on a bucket truck near the flag pole. On windy days in Lane, you doubted the guy could make it through the whole game. And the flag stayed at attention the entire game.

I can listen to many types of music, and country is one of them. Country's got some great music, especially patriotic/military songs. Arlington by Trace Adkins as an example, gets me every time.

Technically it's not in the stadium, its the semi circle you see from the arial view right outside of the SW entrance. That is the space where the flag poles are. But I agree it should be flown somewhere attached to the stadium as well.

Still more fans at our Spring Game in 1989 than UVA had at theirs.
That's more fans than UVA has had at all their spring games since 1989...combined.
Richie, from downstairs?
Hahaha, most likely, 10800E?
Yup, Chris. Still remember Foxridge that day we beat Miami back in 2004... "WHATS HE BURNING!?"
Cleazy! Never forget that day bro...one of the best ever. I wish I could do it again!

This is awesome. Can someone start printing "TIME OUT TIMECOP" or "YOU!!!" T-shirts for this event.
Besides the Van Damme movie, "TimeCOP" always makes me think of this flick too:
Last time I was in Charlottesville for the game, there were more Hokies.
If we could get a "lets go hokies" cheer going... wow, that would be sweet
It'd be Miami 2013 all over again!
There are more people in my car in the HOV lane than there are at a UVA spring game...

The person I got this from said its Vandy vs Tech, the pictures might have been developed in april though.
If that's true, the date on the camera is set wrong. The only time we've played Vandy under Beamer was in November of 1989.

Very cool to see it, though, regardless of who's playing.
I think it's a non-American date notation (Day/Month/Year). That'd make it November 4th, which corresponds with the date in the link you posted.
That'd do it. Well spotted!
Well dammit...still more fans than UVA had at their Spring Game though. That part remains true.
And I was too slow... good catch
This was the first year that I went to a football game at Virginia Tech as a young lad- absolutely nothing like it is now.
This was almost exactly a full year before I even came into existence.
I was only 4 at the time
Dear Lord. That was about 18 months after I GRADUATED from Tech.
Don't feel so bad....I graduated 5 yr before you did.
I was at that game and remember it being cold but tolerable. Ashley Lee ran two picks back for touchdowns in that game, if I remember right.
I dont remember that giant flagpole and flag...
the south endzone (not shown) had the scoreboard
and was overgrown with trees at that time.
Vincent Fuller was 7
~ feeling old now.
GO HOKIES!
*EDIT*
You fixed your post, now I'm less confused. Party on.

It was a HUGE flag, too.
Well, because 'MERICA
from that era. Not a country fan (not that there's anything wrong with that)
this does little to change that for me.

Do we even have a flag pole in or around Lane now? I've always liked the one at "The Shoe".
I believe the American, Virginian, and VT flag are all together at the South West entrance gate.
You're right, I went back and took another look. Thanks.

isn't there one on top if the stadium, too? above the West side pressbox?
I can't recall for sure, but I think they are two ientical white flags with maroon VT logos in them. Not the red, white, and blue.
I stand corrected. Thanks
BOOM!! I like it!
I've always wanted the top of the castles to have flames shoot out of them...
That would be so bad ass!!!!
"Welcome to the terror dome"
IIRC, there's one on top of the East stands too.
Im liking the patriotic vibes ... I think we should hire this guy to help with pregame. Maybe from the battlements of lane.
There is so much win in that gif. Also, pretty impressive to one hand that AK too.
