The NCAA has finally addressed a true scourge on collegiate sports - photo shoots

Thank goodness for the diligent officials at the NCAA. Whatever would we do without their watchful eye?

Yah all the chatter was schools are very happy about it because you would have kids asking for visits just to get the uniform photo shoot to post on their instagrams as a flex even if there was not much interest.

NCAA also eliminated a transfer portal window. There's now just one, 45-day window for transfers.

Big improvement for coaching quality of life.

That okay the removal of the 25 player cap just ruined their quality of life.

It's more the schedule than anything else. Coach searches, transfer portal recruiting, high school recruiting, and the post season are all happening at the same time. Why? It makes no sense.

The fix is easy:

  • Eliminate early signing day
  • Move the (single) transfer period to after spring ball

I think it's a wash for the coaches' QoL. Top 25 schools will be able to sign everybody they want knowing they will transfer out if they had a bad evaluation. Not top 25 schools will have to lean on the portal even more, but now there's just one transfer window, so that becomes slightly easier to manage. This is going to make roster management even more important than it already was, be thankful we have staff dedicated to this now.

I think they just reduced it? The spring is the same 15 day window. The winter is now 30 days instead of 45, starts after conference championships. Should help coaches in any regard, 2 weeks less of trying to keep roster intact.

These seem like positive developments.

Weren't we all so so so excited about Devyn Ford committing to VT after his photoshoot with a uniform we hadn't yet worn? I may be remembering the wrong recruit, though.

You might have been thinking about Devon Hunter is who debuted the hokiestone jerseys before the Battle at Bristol

I will never get over how f*ing weird this is

Onward and upward

You hear Brian "killed a kid" Kelly's fake ass Louisiana accent and you think it can't get any weirder. Then he drops a music video?

Its just slightly weirder than this

Who's the old dude on the right?

(And the kid on the left, for that matter?)

I think old dude is Dad

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Old dude is his dad which is cool and all except him also insisting on a full jersey that just made it weird.

Sounds like it is still allowed on official visits which makes sense assuming the strong mutual interest to take an official visit.

Next they'll say that recruiters can't babysit for player's parents or buy cheeseburgers.

Next they'll say that recruiters can't babysit for player's parents

Damn, that would really throw a wrench into Galen Scott's strategy

Galen Scott would need to hire a babysitter, not be one. This shouldn't hinder his recruiting strategy too much.

The Galen Scott jokes alone justify my annual sub.

The best part of this honestly is it stops propagating the lie that "VT recruits love the orange uniforms" hopefully that myth goes away.

How do you know it's a lie? Maybe they do.

They can't possibly

We have a better winning % in orange than maroon

We have won way more games in maroon than we have in orange.

The more we play costume, the lower our recruiting rankings have been and the more we have lost to ODU. If recruits "like" it, they aren't choosing VT for it regardless.

If you want to wear an orange jersey, go to a school that sucks.

As you all know- I wasn't being totally serious or making a scientific analysis here. But this will quiet the excuses when we trot out shit unis. "recruits" can't be the excuse.

I am wholeheartedly agreeing with you. Our main rival wears orange, we should not. Also that total abomination of a Hokie Bird helmet still gives me nightmares.

The old school fighting gobbler (in maroon) is acceptable for an alt helmet.

The solution is easy, make the Hokie Stone unis our alternates.

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."
~*squints eyes in disbelief*

This is so appropriate for the current state of College Football....

Schools "please help us out from under the over-the-top, obnoxious, and completely unnecessary Recruiting tool we created"

NCAA: immediate ban.

Also Schools: "call the local Car Dealership, we need another Truck to Lease for free to our 3rd string Left Guard for his "NIL value."

NCAA: crickets.

Yeah Utah NIL just got trucks for the entire team

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Yes, who could have seen THAT coming?

Right- and keep in mind nooooo its not "pay for play" to give a football team fucking 70K dollar trucks.... nahhh. Talia Tanglavoia being offered a 1.5 million 1 year "deal" to go to Ole Miss isn't pay for play either.

Surprised it was Ole Miss and not Bama based on their QB situation.

It was Auburn. Ole Miss has Dart. As someone married to an Auburn grad, let me tell you, they know the Cam Newton payment was the best investment in school history

Go Hokies

Right- my bad- Auburn- forgot that scum Freeze wasn't at ole miss. Anyway- two of the poorest states in the union have billions in throw away football booster money. Boggles my fucking mind. NOVA makes auburn look like mogadishu yet VT has to beg for donations and auburn has billions on tap. Fucking blows my mind.

Its because they have nothing but college football going for them.

Not even a second-world standard of living.

Makes no sense to me either

College football is the religion down there. Not so much in nova

I mean, I don't think VT fans are any less rabid than Auburn, Michigan, USC, etc. Maybe VT fans feel like they have better things to spend money on than football?

you don't think we're less rabid, then those 3 schools? I know VT has a ton of school pride, can't say we're on level with them in FOOTBALL rabidness.

Harvey Updyke would be exhibit A for this (dude that poisoned Toomers Corner tree after Auburn beat Bama)

Harvey Updyke is a bama fan, not auburn.

I was just speaking to the rabidness in general when it comes to football down there

Maybe not Auburn, but big house is known as the quietest 110k people for a reason. USC is basically all fair weather fans (just like every other LA team).

I went to USC/Notre Dame at the Coliseum during their hey day and most of the attention from the "fans" was towards the song girls (understandably) but the pre-game and game experience was laughable comparatively to football in the south.

we are definitely not as rabid

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

USC and Michigan are not selling out a stadium against a 1-3 team after going 3-9 then starting 1-3 (yes, I know their stadiums are bigger, but USC especially isn't selling 60k tickets if they're .500).

It depends on what you mean by rabid, we have great in game fans but being loud doesn't pay the bills. Michigan fills a 110k stadium even if they're quiet. I don't see a line of people on Friday night at 4:59 PM just waiting to run and get their tailgate set up.

How many Blacksburg residents do you think have RVs just to be on campus for the game weekend and not have to drive all day game day? I assume there has to be someone doing that but is that pretty standard?

Do the VA state cops only ticket rival fans on thanksgiving weekend?

How rabid are our fans outside of the game?

All this proves is that Alabama and Mississippi produce stupid people who end up in money whereas Virginia produces smart people who end up in money.
