I was at a baby shower and only saw the second half of the game, but I'm excited to be able to say that it looks like we have an actual identity now, and are moving in the right direction. There seems to be tangible improvement week to week and we've now already hit our win total from last year with at least 3 more very winnable games on the schedule.
TBo and Marve looked like they called a great game and from what I saw it looked like we were more physical in the trenches and everyone played their part.
Also, Drones now only yhe 3rd VT QB in the past 20 years to have 300+ passing and 50+ rushing yards in a single game.

A few games ago, my biggest concern was that we hadn't really seen any upside from this team. 3 games have gone by, and I've seen the upside every game. We have an offensive identity. A bowl game feels possible for the first time in years.

Nah fam, L'ville is completely beatable. Not to put too much in the transitive property. But we've grown since Marshall and l'ville lost bad to s*itt, barely beat nc state (dommed by duke).

Pitt beat Louisville, but that is with Pitt going 2-2 on 4th, Louisville going 0-4 and turning it over 3 additional times. Louisville nearly doubled Pitt on total yards. Did Louisville make all of those mistakes? Yeah. Can we count on those mistakes being routine? No.

Believe it or not, I saw the jump and no ball pretty quick. Just was annoyed I had to try and find where the play went, but man what a call and sell that was...especially with our snapping in recent years

One of the defensive coaches, when asked about the play indicated that the defense didn't even know the fake was called. They had moved down to the other end of the field ready to go on after the punt.

Just got finished watching. I have three observations...
1. That officiating crew sucked balls. Seriously, that crew is a complete joke.
2. Marve called one helluva game. We saw some new faces at LB, some slight schematic adjustments (nothing major) and guys rallying to the football. WE DID NOT GIVE UP A BIG PLAY FOR A TD!!! I don't think we can celebrate that enough.
3. Great job by Bowen and the staff to keep working to figure things out.

I think it was partly the booth that was awful in those calls for review. Only 2 were overturned (the TD and a first down for WF I think). Both targeting calls were initiated from the booth.

TBH I didn't mind the booth-initiated targeting reviews- both were arguably close but not quite targeting and the final calls were consistent...the OMLY consistent thing the refs did(other than consistently mis-pot the ball)!

It's really encouraging that we actually out coached a staff like Wake....i have been VERY critical of Pry and his staff but they did the damn thing tonight. We won by 17 but I truly felt we left points on the board....and then there were the refs. Just a great effort by everyone tonight, bowling is a still alive!

FAM! Is it just me or did Drones remind anyone today of Bryan Randall's style of play during his senior season? Making great decisions on the RPO's, throwing the ball better each game and moving well in the pocket to elude sacks. Not a blazing and shifty runner like Tyrod, and not a tank like Logan Thomas, but always a threat to run for the first down. Really liking the playcalling from Bowen as well. Not everything works, but many things are successful. Happiest Hokie day in a long time. Hope is a dangerous drug.

yaasssssss. I absolutely had Randall vibes watching this game. '04 season was my favorite in college. Road tripped to Miami to see us win the ACC our first season in and then to New Orleans to see us lose that heartbreaker in the Sugar Bowl to Auburn.

I might be reading into things, but HokieEnginerd and LancerHokie are part of the Lot 18 crew and the former was vocally not onboard with the changes I made and therefore wouldn't fly a TKP flag at the tailgate. As wasknick pointed out though, that's not the case. Otherwise I'm missing it too.

They always have flags up. The TKP flag should be there but I hung it up in my garage in 2020 and then never took it back down to give to someone in the group. I probably should do that but it's right next to a Klingon flag and looks really good.

Another great crowd (and lots came back after halftime despite the cold rain which thank god stopped midway through the 3rd quarter). Very loud crowd.
I've been to three games all the way through-all three we scored 30 points or more and were our wins;( I left the Purdon't game midway through the rain/lightning delay). I'll be at the two other home games. Willing to accept sponsorship for tickets/lodging, and travel to the three away games in Louisville, Boston, and Lane North so we can finish 8-4!

Also as bad as those endless media timeouts are when watching on TV, they are WAY worse in person in the stadium in my opinion. Also in all three of our wins , the kick for cash contestant has MADE the kick and on cash...just saying! (I left during the 5+ hour lightning delay for Purdon't game so I don't know if they even did the kick for cash then or not and if so whether they made it or not.)

Probably one of the best 4th quarters from a VT team that I can remember. With a slim lead, VT slammed the door with complementary football instead of the butt-clinching, prevent defense, and running the ball into the tackles offense that was a staple under Beamer and Fuente years.
Instead:
Wake starts the 4th quarter with the ball, makes some plays on offense, but the VT defense holds strong in red zone to only give up 3 and maintain a TD lead
VT offense makes a solid drive, eats some time and importantly matches the 3 points to get it back to a 10-point lead
Wake moves it midfield, APR gets a strip-sack fumble, just about clinching the game with half a quarter to go
VT takes the good the field position, kills some clock, eats 2 WF timeouts, and top it off with TD to slam the door shut
Wake in desperation mode gets sacked by APR 3 times to end the game
I don't know if VT has ever had a 4th quarter with a 1-TD lead and turned it into an easy-breezy win like that.

Guys, when the Hokies take the field on the 26th of October, they will have a better in-conference record than Clemson.
They play Miami and NC State to close out the month, both on the road, both losable games.
We could go into November with a better in-conference record than Clemson. If we beat Syracuse and Clemson loses both games, we'd have identical overall records.

FAM! Is it just me or did Drones remind anyone today of Bryan Randall's style of play during his senior season? Making great decisions on the RPO's, throwing the ball better each game and moving well in the pocket to elude sacks. Not a blazing and shifty runner like Tyrod, and not a tank like Logan Thomas, but always a threat to run for the first down. Really liking the playcalling from Bowen as well. Not everything works, but many things are successful. Happiest Hokie day in a long time. Hope is a dangerous drug.
yaasssssss. I absolutely had Randall vibes watching this game. '04 season was my favorite in college. Road tripped to Miami to see us win the ACC our first season in and then to New Orleans to see us lose that heartbreaker in the Sugar Bowl to Auburn.

Noticed this watching in the stadium. Was fun to see. A few throws he probably shouldn't have tried and got away with, but he looks like he's gaining confidence each week.
There was one where he pulled it last second, Tuten got blown up and Drones got what seemed like 10 yards. Was an absolutely beautiful read

I might be reading into things, but HokieEnginerd and LancerHokie are part of the Lot 18 crew and the former was vocally not onboard with the changes I made and therefore wouldn't fly a TKP flag at the tailgate. As wasknick pointed out though, that's not the case. Otherwise I'm missing it too.
They always have flags up. The TKP flag should be there but I hung it up in my garage in 2020 and then never took it back down to give to someone in the group. I probably should do that but it's right next to a Klingon flag and looks really good.

Another great crowd (and lots came back after halftime despite the cold rain which thank god stopped midway through the 3rd quarter). Very loud crowd.
I've been to three games all the way through-all three we scored 30 points or more and were our wins;( I left the Purdon't game midway through the rain/lightning delay). I'll be at the two other home games. Willing to accept sponsorship for tickets/lodging, and travel to the three away games in Louisville, Boston, and Lane North so we can finish 8-4!

Also as bad as those endless media timeouts are when watching on TV, they are WAY worse in person in the stadium in my opinion. Also in all three of our wins , the kick for cash contestant has MADE the kick and on cash...just saying! (I left during the 5+ hour lightning delay for Purdon't game so I don't know if they even did the kick for cash then or not and if so whether they made it or not.)
I'd add, as annoying as they were, VT benefited from the delays. Either interrupting Wake momentum or overturning/standing with the call.
We were talking about that in the rows near me. Those endless reviews are awful for the in game experience. I get it, but also like damn. The game flow just sucks

Probably one of the best 4th quarters from a VT team that I can remember. With a slim lead, VT slammed the door with complementary football instead of the butt-clinching, prevent defense, and running the ball into the tackles offense that was a staple under Beamer and Fuente years.

I don't know if VT has ever had a 4th quarter with a 1-TD lead and turned it into an easy-breezy win like that.
Clemson 99? That was actually a tense game until Corey Moore took over.
Guys, when the Hokies take the field on the 26th of October, they will have a better in-conference record than Clemson.
They play Miami and NC State to close out the month, both on the road, both losable games.
We could go into November with a better in-conference record than Clemson. If we beat Syracuse and Clemson loses both games, we'd have identical overall records.
