I'm still getting used to college football games starting on Tuesday now. Liberty went 7-0 and Jax State squeaked by WKU last night.
The other FBS newbie is currently in overtime tonight looking for their first FBS win; Sam Houston and FIU are battling in OT#2. Jerry Kill's NMSU Aggies are tied up with UTEP early.
Thursday's game of note is JMU Marshall.
Fridays pits old Big East foe Temple against ACC peer SMU.
Saturday at noon pits top ten PSU @ OSU.
More interesting matchups at 3:30:
Wazzu at a ranked Oregon,
Texas at current and former conference mate Houston,
Top 20 Tennessee at Alabama.
At 7:30 a few raked matchups:
Duke @ FSU
Utah @ USC
Both 10:30 games are interesting and ever late:
UCLA (Big Ten) @ Stanford (ACC)
ASU (Big 12) @ Washington (Big Ten)

Comments
Lol. Ol Corny picked up another L. Scoring just 20 points in regulation. Kudos for 420 yards of offense tho. 0-7
Most teams that make the jump these days from FCS to FBS are prepared and successful. I assumed a team with a strong name like "Sam Houston State" would fit right in there. They even have a decent looking logo.
I've watched parts of 4 of their games this season- everything about that program reeks of Bishop Sycamore. They haven't nailed down a color scheme- all shades of orange are still being considered and maybe they use any random shade of blue but maybe they don't. Their stadium reminds me of that one scene from Blazing Saddles. The citizens of Rock Ridge have to whip up a fake town real quick to hopefully pull the wool over somebody's eyes...
That stadium can't possibly hold a minimum FBS crowd. Doesn't really matter that it's empty for home games anyway.
It just doesn't feel like they have any business moving up to FBS.

That's barely a Virginia high school stadium
It actually reminds me of the high school stadium in Appalachia, VA with the stands literally built into the mountainside, except that stadium also has a beautiful overlook down into the river valley.
Except they have what looks to be grass or a reasonable facsimile thereof. The field at Appalachia barely had dirt over the rock.
Played many games on that field.
Played enough to relish not playing on it. Where did you go to school? Good 'ol J.J. Kelly here (which no longer exists).
Good 'ol Powell Valley here. Long live the LPD!
Indeed! Consolidation did it in, unfortunately. I go a lot further back than you do, but you guys had some excellent teams.
Yeah, they could have had better luck moving up Texas high schools.
I see I'm not alone in my thoughts here
I can't even take these expansion plan drawings seriously. Like, are we adding 150 seats to the stadium and the NCAA is just blessing this off as "good enough"?
What happened here?
Hindsight is 200% 20/20 and didn't think this way at the time, but Fuente/VT were never going to be successful with clown/underqualified coaches like Cornelson. He is not a p5 coach- clearly. He is where he belongs in this crap stadium calling plays in conference USA. Not an aspiring top 20 program like VT. Whit/Fuente killed the program we love to the point that Marshall and Rutgers kick us in the teeth. Corny belongs in that clown stadium- he can't coach. For fun, Whit also cornered Fuente into a videographer as running backs coach. No shit we didn't win or beat liberty and ODU. no kidding.
this looks like the home field of the South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs, pre-Bobby Boucher
We haven't nailed down a color scheme either. We have magenta uniforms and maroon helmets.
Commentators brought him up repeatedly , though they never really landed on a single pronunciation, there was:
- Core-Nelson
- Korn-helson
- Corr-Nielsen (which was probably my favorite)
So is one of the teams in these matchup gonna 'mow down 'the other ? /s
Man that's a great catch- I'm leaving it.
Bet the house on JMU
Bet JMU every week and you'll be plus money at the end of the season
Took them at over 8.5 wins for the year. Easy money
Aight, I'll trust you. But if I end up homeless next week. I'm gonna have strong words for you.
Then you bet the car the week after, you'll get your house back by the end of the season
Line has moved to -5.5 in some places
Congrats on the vacation home
Thanks. I'm actually going to get a rental property here in town to rent out. You know, make my money work for me...
Bet enough on the JMU money line to cover the rest of my betslip
They win like 90% of their games. It's amazing the sweet spot they have found. They remind me of Chris Peterson Boise -lite. Meaning I don't see them beating Oklahoma this year, but they win games at an amazing clip.
I think they've covered every game except UVA
Can I get a copy of your deed you know for um reasons?
Hilarious that you think I could own my own house
JMU showing why they are a the best team in the Commonwealth.
Low bar
Are they? Or is that the joke?
Jesus, JMU just intercepted it at the 2. Perfect time to give up another safety and bring the score to 4-3
Quincy Patterson is getting his second start for Temple tonight.
After a Gameday bit on Iowa, the Aflac Trivia Question is:
I'd be surprised if this isn't a Hokie team from the aughts.
EDIT: In 2008 we had 303.4 YPG... 2006! We had 295.2 YPG. Interesting to see if somebody else has done it since.
I just felt that the answer was VT. Also, the hint was "this team has fallen waayyyyyyy off the map."
What's with the shade Mr. BIG Guy with the betting odds?
Lol fucking ouch
I want Tech to be good again for my own selfish reasons, of course. That being said, I also want to rub it in ESPN's smug face. Thanks for kicking us while we're down you bunch of pricks.
I mean, VT football HAS fallen way off the map.
I don't think anyone here disagrees with that.
that guy has no idea we've won 2 of our last 3, what a loser
I see OSU is running our pitch play. Pry wants to run this tough for a defense so OSU stealing our ideas to be tough for a PSU defense.
Seeing Actual advertisement on the field of play makes me barf "Safelite Field"
I mean gotta get then dollars I reckon but is nothing sacred anymore
EDIT: at least put it on the walls but not on the field of play.
James Franklin---Offensive Genius...
<200 total yards and ZERO 3rd down conversions.
When are recruits gonna figure out this guy is all style and no substance?
Their senior year when they look back and realized they haven't won a big game?
Penn State dropping another to OSU has me...
I'm probably delusional, but it feels like a recruiting tactic to point out PSU gets pushed around every year by OSU and UM. Come to VT with an easier playoff path, which means more exposure, and more ability to make it to the next level faster
Everyone should be watching the Pitt/Wake game...I'm happily watching it with the satisfaction of knowing we beat both teams by multiple scores. It's just fun for some reason.
When did nardouche start wearing glasses? Didn't even recognize him.
Helps him hide the salt.
Tenn giving Bama all it can handle.
I said the same thing to a buddy of mine. Walked away from the game for like a half hour. Alabama put up... 27?... while I was gone
Iowa staring down another win with less than 15 points.
112 yards of offense and 2 turnovers early in the 4th. Mind boggling how they keep their job. They need to lose a few of these games and maybe something will happen.
Minnesota and the under was an easy pick.
Oof...its been a rough year for Shane&Co.
USCe getting handled by Mizz.
About to go to 2-5 this year.
Penn State basically loses to OSU every year, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want their 11-2 10-3 lifestyle every year
Who knew Pitt Wake would be ACC game of the week. Side note maybe with increased ticket price zones lane can get the lights upgraded.
Pass the salt.... To Nardz!
So did we take out both of Wake's QBs last week? I just caught the end of the game, did Marucci start?
He did. Which means we removed Pitt's QB and Wakes after they played us.
Sacksburg baby, let's keep this going.
Ahhhh Eat shit Pitt
What in the sam hell end of game hail Mary sequence was that by Pitt? Miss the check down/hook and ladder and then throw a jump ball 30 yards short of the end zone? If he couldn't get it to the end zone why didn't you try a hook n ladder?
Game over as soon as he threw that pass.
Iowa just added 50% of their yardage on that punt return.
Totally incompetent special teams by Minnesota. Gifting an incompetent offense Iowa team with a huge lead and momentum swing super late in the game.
WOW... never mind... technicality waives off an Iowa TD
Now Iowa fans tossing stuff on the field. No sighting yet of mustard bottles or golf balls.
And there's the nail.
Not so fast...
Early but UVA is tied up with UNC at 7.
Cannot believe Iowa was going to win that on a punt return, then cannot believe it got called back on a dumb technicality. What a sickos game.
The rule makes sense, it causes defenders to come out their lane and slow down.
There were four defenders there when he grabbed it though
Rule states that he must signal above the helmet. Arm never came close to being above his head. Worst part was they made him talk at the post game presser.
Correct which is why his fair catch signal was rules as an invalid fair catch signal.
Refs cheated Texas into a win. Wow
Apparently bad spots for Houston and Pitt. Kind of want to see them now
Uncheat playing like shit and loluva looking like they're capable
UNC is overdue for their yearly preseason hypetrain derailment. UVA still has time for a 4th quarter blunder.
4th quarter blunder it is I guess.
Is the clock messed up for anyone else in the ESPN app, specifically the UVA/Carolina game? It said 7:55 for a long time and now is stuck at 4:50.
I'm pulling for loluva, since we won't get a meteor, it gives UNCheat a conference loss.
Holy shit, those crazy sonsabitches did it! Down goes UNCheat!
Hahahahahaha, suck it Mack Brown
#CoastalChaos
The losers in Charlottesville beat the losers in NC. Wow
Ump cam is 🔥 where's that been all year?
UVA beat the tar holes.
Ole Miss I up on the Hugh freez led auburn tigers.
So, that UNC loss sets us up for our ACC Championship
gamerun, right? You mean to tell me in that 1990 season where they were ranked #1 for however long it was, and their Groh glory years - UVA never beat a Top-10 team on the road??? How is that possible?
I mean that is amazing, but it's not like we have a great record against the top ten home or away.
Very few teams do.
Top 10 UNC losing to a bad bad team from the state of Virginia where have I seen this before?
If UVA had to get a win over a top 10 team, I'm so happy it was UNC.
Literally the only time I will cheer for Carolina and they lose.
Plus this eliminates the .01% chance Campbell beats UNC in two weeks.
What do the Camel's odds look like now?
What the fuck. What the FUCK
And ODU beat App State.
Cristobal proving again he has no idea what the game clock is, what types of plays to call, and how timeouts work.
1:30 left, tied game, has a TO remaining, and he runs the ball with full huddles between plays. No urgency or trying to get into FG range. Why is he still employed?
SHHHHHHHH!!!
Don't say the quiet things out loud
And the Utes take down USC. I guess USC isn't back...
USC is going to the B1G cause they figure 4th place behind Michigan, OSU, and PSU has a better playoff chance than any PAC team behind the Utes.
No wonder Caleb hates Utah so much
Listening to the radio this week in Raleigh the talking heads we're talking about UNC running through 11 wins this year and that the UVa game was a foregone conclusion
It amuses me to no end they choked this one away. UVa sucks, we all know this, watching the Holes lose to them is glorious
UNC has been overrated for the entirety of Mack Brown's return.
I love it. Gives the Hoos unwarranted hope, and wrecks the cardboard powder blue hype train.
Every year though it's the same spiel... Mack Brown finally has UNC in form...the U is back...Jimbo Fisher will finally earn his contract.
TBF, all that is usually pre-season hype and then they reveal themselves as frauds starting game 1 or 2. This year, they actually had us fooled for 6 games. So, idk, maybe it's one off game or maybe the first 6 games were a mirage.
I think that's cause Drake Maye is actually good. Usually they have an over hyped fraud at QB too.
Idk about that. He looked like garbage last night.
He's worlds better than Howell and Trubisky
That's not saying much.
I know but they both got themselves hyped into the NFL which is absolutely mind boggling to anyone that watched them play football.
The NFL sucks at evaluating QBs.
Games started and completion percentage! it's not rocket science.
Trubisky doesn't pass the games started and Howell is actually not in a bad sport from college stats. For a 5th rounder and ignoring the Bills game he looks like he has decent stats for his first 7 games in the NFL. That Bill's game looks brutal though.
WTF Clemson. You have 2 timeouts to figure out a play and that's what you end up with?
I'm not gonna say it's over, but I think Clemson's reign atop the ACC is done. Losing Venables was a body blow to them.
And Clemson goes down in Miami. I love how even the announcers have figured out how stupid it is to line up in the shotgun and take the snap at the 5 yard line when you need half a yard for the TD. Why is it so hard for teams to have a QB sneak in their playbook?
I don't get it either, the QB sneak should be in every playbook especially when other players can now push the QB forward. College coaches love over complicating simple things.
I like this whole tied for 4th, can be tied for 2nd with a win vs Syracuse
Moving on up.

If Louisville beats Duke this weekend then we control our own destiny to make the ACCCG if we win out. LOL
How does the tie breaker work if both us and UNC win out?
Assuming just a two-way tie with us and UNC, it would go to win percentage versus common opponents. And also assuming we won out, we would get the nod for beating UVA since they lost to them (they don't play FSU so wouldn't impact anything).
A two way tie benefits us as we'd be 4-0 ACO, they'd be 3-1.
Conversely, if Louisville beats them after beating Duke, we can take 2nd outright if we win out.
I mean we're really looking at a 2 loss team at minimum i the champ game so it's all kind of moot. But I'd love VT to run the table even if it just upsets ESPN's narrative.
UNC lost and I absolutely love it, but Armani Chatman played a hell of a game and I miss him in our secondary.
Edit: I should have done a 20 second google search
(ಠ_ಠ)
Georgia tech stole the T
Now they stole the W too
That's fair I'll take the loss on this one
All of the Pitt fans complaining about the spot are insane. The stills of the play clearly show him starting the slide before the sticks.
I have never seen a player get 2 separate personal fouls on the same play, but both were deserved.
Why would anyone want to play for Dabo? Everything is someone else's fault. He never takes ownership of any thing that goes wrong. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/dabo-swinney-says-cade-k...
sounds awfully familiar...
