Think about that for a second. You don't allow one f'in yard of rushing in a whole f'in game and it doesn't even crack the TOP TEN defensive performances! We are way Bud spoiled! FAM!

220 push-ups FAM. We dominated that game start to finish - played complete football for 4 quarters. Love to see that. Syracuse is a bad team but it's a step in the right direction to be beating bad teams like we should FAM!!!1!!

I was listening on the radio before I got home to watch the second half. Bill Roth said the Hokies came dressed as the 99 Hokies for the Halloween weekend.

Yeah, but I thought they renewed for 4 more? I guess they could if they wanted? After the last season I feel like the show has run its course. Better to go out on a good last note than to do what Trailer Park Boys did.

She actually switched to a much less competitive team. She's really not that into swimming anymore, but wants to stick with it to (1) be a life guard this summer as her first real job and (2) if she is on an external sports team, she can skip gym at school. That allows her to take art class instead of gym. Not even sure when her next meet is.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Is she trying to make the high school team? I totally understand stepping down a level. I liked practice and hated meets. Swimming is meant to be fun and those full weekend meets are decidedly not fun.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
She still has not decided. Freshmen now, so school try outs have not happened yet. She was thinking about it last summer, then said no, but now is thinking about it again. Wife suggested to her that she just focus on the longest distance events and be the long distance specialist. Someone on her old/highly competitive travel team does that at his high school. He might do 2 races per meet. And she does not have the sprinter mentality. Years and years ago her old coach and I both thought she should just focus on long distance. I mean 500 should be her regular distance and she should be training for the mile.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
She should. High school swim is incredibly fun. It's like summer swim but with all your high school friends. And if she's been swimming club she'll be one of the better swimmers day one with less pressure meet-to-meet than summer swim. HS swim was one of the best experiences of my life, I'd highly recommend she at least try freshman year.

Guys it's been so long since we've been able to watch an entire half of football stress free...this team is feeling confident and they're playing that way and it's fun as hell to watch. I'd say since that hot streak in 2019, this is the most fun I've had watching Hokie football. Fucking FAMMMMMMM y'all enjoy this weekend
Also...it's nice to dominate on a national stage again

Super for happy for Brent Pry and his staff! He's a really easy guy to root for, and it's a pleasure for me to be able to say that for the first time since he was hired Hokie fans should be thrilled by what they are seeing on the football field.

Starting with the win against Pitt and removing the loss to FSU
The Hokies are 3-0
Have outscored their opponents by 106-44
Have allowed 73 rushing yards
Have accrued 17 sacks
Have rushed for 640 yards (213.3 ypg)
Have thrown for 759 yards (253 ypg)
The 466.3 ypg would be 3rd best in the ACC behind UNC and Miami, and the #16 total offense in the country
Have gone 19-44 on 3rd down
Have gone 3-3 on 4th down
Have scored 9 FG (meaning that it is likely that of the 44 3rd/4th down attempts, 31 ended with either a conversion or a score)

So, here's a strategy for when you are truly trying to get better but still celebrate a good (for the most part) round. Take your handicap and divide by 2. Take that number of holes out of your score and look at it in relationship to par. If you are +1 or below, you have pretty much gotten "there." Now look at those holes you excluded and work on improvement. Was it a shot left in the bunker? Was it a few 3 putts? Was it a slice ob? Was it hitting it in the same water hazard? You've now narrowed the focus on what to work on.

Over 500 yards of total offense, over 300 yards rushing, vintage LPD performance, very vintage overall VT performance. This team has turned the corner.

Is this real? I want to believe! Syracuse isn't good but this is not the same team we saw the first few weeks of the season. Players are busting their ass and I think the coaches have definitely improved their game too. This is a fun team to watch now

Fam! This team is competent, which is a HUGE step. Another performance like that and I might even start throwing around the g word (which is "good" just in case there's a really bad g word that I'm not thinking of)

That locker room is insane. If that isn't the epitome of a unit that is "All In", a complete "Band of Brothers", a team that has embraced every thread of fabric that is Pry's program, then I don't know what is. That is a group that is one the same sheet of music.
That locker room scene is fully dipped spiritually, mentally and physically.
It's awesome to watch all of them going nuts. I've watched it like 4 times.

I'm so sorry because I know we're "fam"ing and I am thrilled but I am just getting tired of the student section half empty after halftime every game. They just want their "Enter Sandman" moment so they can post it on their IG and then off they go. Okay, rant over. Back to "fam"ing!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
It wasn't just the students. Tons of fans rolled out before halftime. Sitting right behind the Syracuse bench, you could tell they were out of the game when it was 16-0. Even before then it was starting to have that feeling.
But, that's not justification for leaving when we are actually doing well. As a fan base, we've pined for the Hokie teams of yore, but aren't acting like the stadium crowds that helped those teams. It's not just leaving. People aren't fully engaged. They're not focused on the game. Some of it may all the random ass distractions on the video board (I'm only 37, but damn... get off my lawn).
Recently, we've had to experience being crappy. Why not fully experience it when we are doing well?
Unrelated: Some idiot behind me spilled beer everywhere. Got it on the seats beside me and did absolutely nothing about it. No one wants to come back and sit in a puddle of beer.

How much did the temperature fall also? Like every female they showed on tv was in short sleeves, crop top, or tank top kinda outfit. Easy to imagine "we're up 30-3 and I'm cold"

That's not where i was going with it but well played i guess. Just meant the crowd generally looked underdressed for a blacksburg autumn evening. 70 degrees at 7 pm can easily be 52 at 9 pm

I wore my same t-shirt and button up maroon shirt from work to the game. I was fine during and after on the mile walk to the car. I was just happy to see Lane a lot fuller than I expected for a Thursday Night. I would have liked the east to have stayed a little longer (not just the students). But the crowd that was left was still into it.

I'll agree with you on all the stadium entertainment distractions; video, music, trivia, etc. Shut it down. Just Enter Sandman, MVs, HTs, Gobbler call is all that's needed.
The game is on the field. I want to see it, hear it, feel the vibrations. Grunting, yelling, crack of pads is what it's all about. Think about this question-what is Enter Sandman without the jumping?

It's 2023. This is the new norm at every school - Not the 'get your instagram pic' but leaving once the game is out of hand. Even in the SEC, a lot of fans/students won't leave the tailgate to go into the stadium until they know the game is good.

Drones broke the school record for highest number of completionspass attempts in a row without an interception- 151 ! (edit- thanks VPIKokie- it WAS 4am when I was posting lol and I may have had 9 beers plus two tequila shots at the tailgate...)
(Apparently the previous record holder was...Glennon. According to the post game radio show, Glennon said he had no idea he held that record til someone said so tonight and that he got to enjoy knowing he had the record for 28 minutes)

Minor thing but I think the stat is attempts, not completions
EDIT: No worries, boo. I thought it was completions too and started counting when he needed 5 more to tie and then when they said he had done it I was like, "no he didn't - he's got 4 more passes to complete" and then I realized...
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't understand the hate for Glennon. He came in to do his job and did it well. He is still a huge Homer for Tech. We have had a lot of other players that were not necessarily the publics nicest guy. But you want your QB to have a bit of attitude.

Glennon is a great dude. He is. His brother is cool/chill too. I was at that game. I said to my buddies in the 4th Q- we should just take 3 knees and punt each time- we would have won.

Pocket passer behind a Newsome OL that couldn't block a lick and with Tyrod Taylor waiting in the wings and most of the fanbase clamoring for TT.
Putting him behind that OL in the LSU game in 2007 was incredibly predictable. Statistically, he performed better passing than TT in 2007 but without TT elusiveness the offense was DOA.

Yes, Glennon was horrible at times and excellent at others. Randall was miserable and then very good. It's great when players develop.
Our DL really blossomed in the past few weeks. OL is coming along seemingly, or is it scheme?

It is so fucking encouraging to see both the players and the coaching staff improve each week.
At one point last night I said to my self, Tyler Bowen has the Syracuse defense on ice skates and now he is going to run it down their throats. By god did he ever.
Great win. Stay focused. Win next week.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I loved Bowen's overall plan... take some shots downfield, open the playbook, try to get up on them- their offense is not a shock play type offense. It was a solid plan and we executed it.

Doctors waiting rooms are much better when you're fam'ing, Fam!! That game has me sold on every direction the team is going. Has an Oline ever improved this much in eight games?

I don't know if anyone else heard it, but it sounded like right before Pry joined Burnop on the mic for the postgame show, he yelled out in the locker room "that O-Line gets better every week!"

Might have had a few but I don't think Thursdays usually aren't a heavy in person crooting event seeing as many recruits need to get back and play for their HS the next day
But all the coaches are on the road today

I'm grinning ear to ear this morning FAM. Even my mom, who has been totally checked out on Hokie football since the Duke loss in 2019, texted me this morning excited about last night.
There were times early in this season when I seriously began to wonder if Pry was the guy. But he, his staff, and this team have completely turned things around and are improving each and every week, and they've made a believer out of me. I see what he's doing with this program, and I BELIEVE.

Man.... one can say that game was worth the squeeze. I don't know what team I watched yesterday but damn that was fun. I couldn't stop smiling. I kept texting my friends yesterday that it reminded me of the early 2000 teams, especially on defense. And that play calling/offense... Holy shit. Keep that shit going. Upbeat and keeping defense honest. AND THE BLOCKING! Night and day from what we saw earlier this year.
With that being said... it feels damn good to be a Hokie today!

So here is my biggest Monday Friday morning take-home message after last night's win:
A month ago, a lot of fans (including me) questioned whether Pry could win at VT at all, thought the roster was basically awful, and had little to no faith in the two coordinators as X's and O's coaches. There was some hope that decent recruiting could eventually help the situation, but I certainly wasn't going to bet any money on it.
Fast forward four games. Pry has actually proven that he can put a competitive team on the field - this year, with this roster. A roster that suddenly has at least 5 or 6 all-ACC caliber players. And the coordinators looked like geniuses last night.
It's entirely possible that we could go 1-3 the rest of the season. But this looks like a team that is going to be competitive in every game, and any reasonable Hokies fan should be feeling optimistic about the future of the program this morning.

You might be right about this. Syracuse may actually be a horrible, rotten team. But what I LOVE about last night's game is that Pry is beating up on the horrible, rotten teams, rather than playing down to them like past VT coaches would do. This bodes extremely well for the future.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
We didn't just beat up on Syracuse, we out right bullied them the 2nd half. We hung 30 on them and then said we are just going to run the clock out and you can't stop us. After they score the TD we had 3 possessions that were 7+ minutes, 5:49 and 5:45. And they had two 3 and outs.

This. I heard some complaining that we turtled up on O in the second half, but I felt like we just played ball control and they still couldn't stop, even knowing what was coming.

Watching the FSU game, the first quarter notwithstanding, I thought our team looked like a fun team to watch. Even in a loss, we fought, we tried doing things that were working, we competed for 3 quarters. The slow start was frustrating but overall the game was relatively enjoyable, as much as a game could be given the 22 point loss. That was kind of the turning point for me. Of course we don't have the talent to keep up with a top 5 team right now but the fact that we were able to do something was encouraging. Especially on the road. Then, the two games since we have looked more complete and we've fairly convincingly beaten a couple of mediocre to bad teams in Wake and Cuse. It feels like this team has finally steadied themselves, found their identity, and started playing some good-ish football. It has given me a lot more faith in these coaches than I had a month ago, like you said.
I think if we manage 2-2 or better through the last 1/3 of the season that will be a pretty good season for Pry in year two. I'm cautiously optimistic that this team could actually go bowling this year. And that's crazy when you consider that just 3 weeks ago some of us (myself included) didn't think that was even a remote possibility.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If you have been following FSU, outside of LSU/Clemson we played them pretty tough by comparison. They flexed their muscles ultimately on a very good Duke team. I agree that game showed some fight (apparently, since I didn't watch after their first series).

The nice part is even if we only get one more win for the season we will have overachieved what Vegas and the ACC had picked for our season wins. Remember all of those 4.5 win predictions, Suck it Vegas! Right now we are tied for second in the ACC. Keep winning boys!
Go Hokies!

I watched Syracuse on the sidelines last night in person. They looked like they just did not want to be there at all. Easy to understand: they got blown out in the first half after consecutive bad losses. Their will is gone and so is their season. And that stood in stark contrast to the attitude VT had after starting 1-3. The Hokies never gave up in games or hung their heads. They stayed bought in. The fans showed up. The coaches were enthusiastic and energetic. At 1-3, this all could have been dismissed as lip service. Indeed it was by many fans. But now success on the field is making the culture change real.
In the radio interviews after the game, Pry and both coordinators talked about how much fun it was going to be getting a plane at 7:30 this morning to go recruit after a win like this. The momentum is palpable. And boy, is it fun.

NFL players despise Thursday night games, according to a survey I saw. The macro data trends also favor the home teams in both college and the NFL- its a tough trip to make. I can see why their players weren't into it. It used to be even tougher before the ACC mandated they be after a Saturday off. The Paul Johnson rule. Ironically he bitched about the short turnaround, but it ended up helping teams to prepare for his chicken shit gimmick offense - my opinion of it- not to be taken as gospel of course.

Very impressed with this win. Not because Syracuse is any good- I said as much- but because we actually played physical and well at home. Cleaned up some of the sloppy penalties and beat a team we should have with an energized crowd, Vick there, and a bunch of recruits. It was a good showing on national TV- been a while. great win, builds some positive energy and momentum. My only nit pik would be to convert a couple of those red zone FGs to TDs. Could have put 50 on an ACC opponent. But great win. a bowl is a real, real possibility now.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
whole heartedly agree. The FGs were frustrating but at least we were driving down the field and getting points. Against better teams we need to convert a few more of those into TDs but a 28 point win at home on a Thursday night is nothing to be upset about. It's very refreshing to see us beat bad teams handily. We've done it 3 times in a row and that is the most encouraging part. We're finding some consistency there and I love it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Pry has stated this in almost every press conference and on field interview this year. Need to "finish" drives. Mullen- a great OC- said last night that great offenses score TDs in the red zone.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Gotta walk before you can run. There are things to nitpick and scoring too many FGs instead of TDs is one of them, but I'm just happy to feel good about this one for a day.

He said their backup (who is probably in his eighth year of eligibility) would come on and do so, as is customary. Somehow, Shrader managed to stay on the field/ground the entire game.

So even though this is a fam thread there's something I didn't love about what I saw yesterday.
There were a bunch of plays where our defensive guys focused on the hit instead of the wrap. I think I saw this a few times and it was the reason why that one play was a targeting/ejection.
I don't love this. I commented a few weeks ago on another game thread saying that I loved that we were focused on wrapping up and bringing a guy to the ground instead of chipping/hitting him, but that seemed to reverse in this game.
Anyway, #fam

We have one of the loudest, high football IQ fanbases in America and it bothers the fuck out of me that we're replacing actual in-game atmosphere (band, crowd, cheer) with piped in music and gimmicky videos.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Awww Joe, you're making me blush! /s but for real a little bit of video board stuff is ok like the "little bit louder now" or some of the stuff Bailey does during media time outs, but give me stick it in, give me the crowd going absolutely bananas over another video of our players playing guess that building any day

I noticed that too. But think about it this way. The biggest complaints from last night we have as fans are:
-- I wish the defense wrapped up better a few times
-- It would have been cool if some of our 5 field goals had been touchdowns so we could have humiliated Syracuse even more
Seems like it was just a month ago that I was complaining:
--I wish that team didn't run for 200 yards on us
--It would be cool if our running game could average more than 2 yards-per-carry
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Literally. In the first half I was watching Syracuse make back breaking penalties on both sides of the ball and couldn't help but think "hey this looks like us earlier in the year." Thankfully our team (players and coaches seemingly) have improved game to game
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Amazing what happens when you have a coach that believes in his players and has a defined vision and plan. They might not be the most talented group but he has built their confidence up and made them believe they can compete at this level.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Not only that but a coach who believes in coaching during the season. I don't remember the exact quote but I remember Fuente saying that he preferred the off-season because actual coaching could occur then. During the season there's no time for coaching. It was the strangest thing to say. I'm glad Pry is coaching during the season.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah I want to believe that there was some context that was missing that melded that sound go to Fuente. It's as weird as Stinespring O'cain saying that scoring wasn't the goal every possession. Sure running the clock is important end of game and making into half time with out a blunder is important, but you're the OC you have 1 job, get points on the board!
Edit: memory not working so early this morning.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah that was insane. The best part about coaching in season is seeing the week to week improvement and pointing it out in film.
I remember one time when Loeffler was trying to get Logan to go through his progressions and he finally did it where he hit like the 4th or 5th read and Lefty ran up to him and was ecstatic.
These things are much better and more effective in the moment than on the practice field when there are no real results. That's how you get buy in. The "see, that's what we're talking about!" moments.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
And this is when "all the intangible" effects are maximized and help drive a wedge in between the talent gap divide and has the team punching above their weight class. I have experienced this organizational behavior in business and coaching sports at the HS level first hand.
I level set my expectations after the Rutgers loss to looking for specific improvements "here and there" while steadying my desire for a win for the rest of the season. In almost "overnight fashion" Pry and Company have shattered that in our last three wins and in a chunk vs FSU.
Though, I still feel I should hold my breathe for the "Colorado" moment to come crashing this party down, my big ole gut says, "I don't have to, exhale and enjoy the ride".
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I know a lot of us here were in the just show improvement club. And it's tough to see individual improvement in football because it takes a team to play together. But if everyone starts improving little by little you can see it. In one of the other threads they had a clib of Wright blocking a guy and then just seamlessly blocking the next guy. That's a huge improvement from the first couple weeks where he could block anyone. We done see that improvement if a guard misses a block a the RB is tackled for a loss, but it still was improvement. I never would have seen that unless someone calls that out because I missed catching that in game and I don't have time to go back and rewatch. I would really like to review the oline play this game cause they looked very good the 2nd half just pushing Syracuse around. Though T.O.P. might have something to do with that too. But Crooks looks like he's been coaching his butt off to get to here.

There's winning and then there is dominating.
Tonight, we dominated.
Double FAM for 2nd team O and D still running over the Orange.
PAY RON CROOK ALL THE MONEY THIS OFFSEASON FAM
STOMP LOUISVILLE LIKE MARCUS FUCKIN VICK
That felt like an old school 2000's VT win! Suffocating, relentless defense and a dominant running game! That was fun to watch FAM!
LET'S GO!!
I was listening on the radio before I got home to watch the second half. Bill Roth said the Hokies came dressed as the 99 Hokies for the Halloween weekend.
I will always attribute the turnaround to this gif
This always reminds me of that meme that popped up when we wrecked FSU...
"All I saw were turkeys... they were everywhere.."
I can't help myself:

We have a winning streak FAM!
Two's a streak! -Shoresy
TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, great season!!!! I had forgotten about the bird...
How do you forget about Big Sexy?
No idea. But it was a great surprise in the first episode.
Also the last season of Letterkenny drops around Christmas.
Yeah, but I thought they renewed for 4 more? I guess they could if they wanted? After the last season I feel like the show has run its course. Better to go out on a good last note than to do what Trailer Park Boys did.
I'm pretty sure we covered, Fam
And special thank you/FAM to my wonderful wife for getting our daughter to/from swim tonight. That is usually my job. Updating things:
VT record when I watch on TV = 4-0
VT record when I watch in person = 0-1
VT record when I don't watch at all = 0-3
She is a wonderful woman who deserves all the credit for this win!
Glue yourself to your TV.
I'll send Venmo for snacks
How's fall swimming going so far? Is there a turkey meet coming up?
She actually switched to a much less competitive team. She's really not that into swimming anymore, but wants to stick with it to (1) be a life guard this summer as her first real job and (2) if she is on an external sports team, she can skip gym at school. That allows her to take art class instead of gym. Not even sure when her next meet is.
Is she trying to make the high school team? I totally understand stepping down a level. I liked practice and hated meets. Swimming is meant to be fun and those full weekend meets are decidedly not fun.
We're even fam.
Beat the fuck out of Louisville
I don't if we were THAT good, but it feels that good...
TERROR DOME was back! APR FAM!!!!
15 sacks over the last 2 games.
Lol we had more sacks than Syracuse had rushing yards
FAM! So good to see the TERROR DOME again finally.
I love this team FAM!!!
FAM THREAD FUCKS SO HARD FAM
Photoshop gif of Silicon Valley "this guy fucks" with Jared's head replaced by the Hokie Bird
FAM!!! Return of the terrordome!!!
Let's go!!
HOKIES!!!
FAM. We played backups tonight.
Hey, we just sacked you. FAM!
Hey, we'll do it again FAM
Hey, I think he liked it FAM
GIFtory request from end of 4th quarter where Hokie overalls guy gets on camera yelling "Heyyy we just f*cked you!"
Check out our sacks and penetrating D, FAM!

FAM!!!
Loved seeing some backups get real reps.
Coney had more rush yards that Cuse, Black had more rush yards that Cuse, Pop had more rush yards that Cuse!
William Watson III had more yards than Cuse, if ESPN's stats are to be believed.
We all had the same number of rushing yards as Cuse
We have the #1 passing defense and what may be the #2 total defense in the ACC by October's end.
'Cuz now we tackle and shit!!!!! FAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel certain we've been able to shit the entire time. No one is going to dare wear white pants while constipated. Never know when that is letting loose.
I mean when they scored I was un easy until we took away the rest of the quarter and we sacked them next time they had the ball
and then the play after that
Super for happy for Brent Pry and his staff! He's a really easy guy to root for, and it's a pleasure for me to be able to say that for the first time since he was hired Hokie fans should be thrilled by what they are seeing on the football field.
Wooooo! Made the trip worth it Fan!
Good to see you yesterday.
FAM DOMINANT GAME
we have to figure out how to make touchdowns in the redzone.
Starting with the win against Pitt and removing the loss to FSU
The Hokies are 3-0
Have outscored their opponents by 106-44
Have allowed 73 rushing yards
Have accrued 17 sacks
Have rushed for 640 yards (213.3 ypg)
Have thrown for 759 yards (253 ypg)
The 466.3 ypg would be 3rd best in the ACC behind UNC and Miami, and the #16 total offense in the country
Have gone 19-44 on 3rd down
Have gone 3-3 on 4th down
Have scored 9 FG (meaning that it is likely that of the 44 3rd/4th down attempts, 31 ended with either a conversion or a score)
FAM THIS IS CHERRY PICKING AND I'M HERE FOR IT
FAM SOME MIGHT EVEN SAY IT'S *RON* CHERRY PICKING!!!
Is it really cherry picking when these all came against conference foes?
"In the last 3 home games" or "In home games against ACC opponents" ...
"In games we've played well"
We are undefeated!!!!*
------------------------------*in games where we score more the 17 points.
In every game we won...
This sounds like me after a round of golf, 'Made a birdie, few pars and if I ignore those three doubles, not a bad round!'.
Isn't this how it's supposed to be done?
"yeah I shot an 85 but it could have easily been a 76"
Welcome to my fucking world
Mine's about 5 shots higher on both ends, but yeah.
TLDR
See the speed limit.
Multiply by 2 and add 10.
Now it's time to take that kind of football on the road!
FAM! IS VT FOOTBALL FUN AGAIN?!
DRINKING ALL THE ORANGE CRUSHES FAM!
Just went to back to back games for the first time since I was an undergrad Fam!
If you were an undergrad in the 2000s don't leave pls
Almost forgot.
BHAYSHUL TUTTEN FOR HEISMAN FAM.
Is this his final year of eligibility?
Pretty sure everyone on offense can come back.
He's a Junior.
Over 500 yards of total offense, over 300 yards rushing, vintage LPD performance, very vintage overall VT performance. This team has turned the corner.
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality.
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see.
I'm just a poor boy
I need no sympathy
Cause I'm easy come, easy go
little high, little low
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to meeeeee
Mama, just beat Syracuse
brought 4 DL all night, sacked him 8 time, now they're dead
Mama, Pry has coached 'em up
But now they have to play at Louisville
Mama, oooo ooo ooo ooo
I don'[t want to lose, and sometimes wish I'd never been a fan at all
The only thing that matters,
The thing that we all seek.
The only thing that matters,
We must beat Louisville, this week.
(softly) Scoring in the Red Zone...
It was only a matter of time. TKP just burst into song. Best FAM ever. We are now a musical!!?!?!
BRILLIANT
Is this real? I want to believe! Syracuse isn't good but this is not the same team we saw the first few weeks of the season. Players are busting their ass and I think the coaches have definitely improved their game too. This is a fun team to watch now
Time to take this win streak on the road and get the first road win of the year! And the first top 25 opponent win of the year!
Fam! This team is competent, which is a HUGE step. Another performance like that and I might even start throwing around the g word (which is "good" just in case there's a really bad g word that I'm not thinking of)
Giraffe
Grit
G who must not be named. It should never be uttered aloud.
That's why we just put it as large as possible on our helmets.
I was going to say Gritty, but thought it might conjure up that swivel eyed terror
Locker Room Mood, Fam:
You fuckin love to see it FAM.
This team has vibes.
300+ yards of Rushing, FAM!

Lane Stadium reverting back to the Terrordome! FAM!
Syracuse has no excuse to being held to 6 yards in the first quarter. We held a rushing team to 0 yards. Complete performance by Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.
Bring on Loserville! Go Hokies
I'm so sorry because I know we're "fam"ing and I am thrilled but I am just getting tired of the student section half empty after halftime every game. They just want their "Enter Sandman" moment so they can post it on their IG and then off they go. Okay, rant over. Back to "fam"ing!
A lot of the east stands left at half. It was 30-3.
It's not polite to stare!
The delta was pretty decent, but I wouldn't say it ever got cold. I put my jacket on because I got tired of holding it, and got a little too warm.
Stinks the crowd dissipated but a few thoughts:
EDIT: also... WHAM BAM THANK YOU FAM!
It's 2023. This is the new norm at every school - Not the 'get your instagram pic' but leaving once the game is out of hand. Even in the SEC, a lot of fans/students won't leave the tailgate to go into the stadium until they know the game is good.
Drones broke the school record for highest number of
completionspass attempts in a row without an interception- 151 ! (edit- thanks VPIKokie- it WAS 4am when I was posting lol and I may have had 9 beers plus two tequila shots at the tailgate...)(Apparently the previous record holder was...Glennon. According to the post game radio show, Glennon said he had no idea he held that record til someone said so tonight and that he got to enjoy knowing he had the record for 28 minutes)
Yes, lets speak of this no more.
Minor thing but I think the stat is attempts, not completions
EDIT: No worries, boo. I thought it was completions too and started counting when he needed 5 more to tie and then when they said he had done it I was like, "no he didn't - he's got 4 more passes to complete" and then I realized...
Sean Glennon might be the most under-appreciated Hokie of all time.
He was the MVP of the 2007 ACC Championship game. I bet that would sound pretty good to Hokies fans these days.
I don't understand the hate for Glennon. He came in to do his job and did it well. He is still a huge Homer for Tech. We have had a lot of other players that were not necessarily the publics nicest guy. But you want your QB to have a bit of attitude.
I think a lot of fans never forgave him for giving away the bowl game against Georgia.
Glennon is a great dude. He is. His brother is cool/chill too. I was at that game. I said to my buddies in the 4th Q- we should just take 3 knees and punt each time- we would have won.
He was in a very tough spot....
Pocket passer behind a Newsome OL that couldn't block a lick and with Tyrod Taylor waiting in the wings and most of the fanbase clamoring for TT.
Putting him behind that OL in the LSU game in 2007 was incredibly predictable. Statistically, he performed better passing than TT in 2007 but without TT elusiveness the offense was DOA.
this
Oh so Grant Wells vs. Kyron Drones? How history repeats itself
Not so dissimilar...teams in very different places from an overall talent standpoint though.
Also, I would say if in a must-win game and given the theoretical choice of Glennon or Wells, I take Sean without hesitation.
100%
Yes, Glennon was horrible at times and excellent at others. Randall was miserable and then very good. It's great when players develop.
Our DL really blossomed in the past few weeks. OL is coming along seemingly, or is it scheme?
Why is this record post 1987? That's a wierd record
They may not have tracked it until then
that's exactly what ESPN said in their recap write-up. We didn't start tracking that until '87.
Wow! Go Hokies!
FAM
We are FAM-ILING, I got all my Hokies and me.
More sacks than a nude beach
If the documentary EuroTrip taught me anything it's that this is definitely not correct.
I am still traumatized by, "chica, chica, chica, chica"
That documentary taught me so many fun facts like...you made out with your sister!
FAM !!!
Better watch out...someone gonna start calling us predatory with us charging 100% APR
Ah a new chant for the crowd (to go with 'stick it in'-defense needs some love too)...
USURY!!!USURY!!!
38-10 BRO
4 WINS AT HOME THIS YEAR
MY GOD THEY WOKE UP SOME ECHOES LAST NIGHT FAM WHAT A NIGHT
It is so fucking encouraging to see both the players and the coaching staff improve each week.
At one point last night I said to my self, Tyler Bowen has the Syracuse defense on ice skates and now he is going to run it down their throats. By god did he ever.
Great win. Stay focused. Win next week.
It's so good to see an OC who, seeing a particular style of gameplan work, stick to that gameplan
I was worried when we came out at half and got away from the run for the first two series. Then he went back to crushing their spirit with the run.
I loved Bowen's overall plan... take some shots downfield, open the playbook, try to get up on them- their offense is not a shock play type offense. It was a solid plan and we executed it.
I didn't know you were allowed to do that.
It's been longer than 4 hours and I'm still FAMing. FAM! Not going to call a doctor just yet.
Happy Birthday Fam!
They gave me one point per year plus one for good luck.
Happy birthday fam!
As I'm about to turn 59 next March, I should consider 'moving' my birthday to November 18th (last home game) or 5th (last home game in 'Lane North')
Plus one for Salad!
Fam!
Long week at work and i was so amped for this game and then absolutely crashed after the safety, major couch zonk
But it's nice to wake up and see that we kept suffocating them and didnt let them back in it!
FAM! The Hokies, Bills, and Everblades (local ECHL team) all won last night, on a night I really needed something to smile about.
Loved feeling like it was 2006 again!
Anybody know how many 'croots we had there last night?
Might have had a few but I don't think Thursdays usually aren't a heavy in person crooting event seeing as many recruits need to get back and play for their HS the next day
But all the coaches are on the road today
Monsoor's brother was there.
Just gotta say I'm on TKP daily, but man is it easier after a win. We should do this all the time.
Man work sucks this morning. But that was an epic beatdown and worth the hangover. Felt like an old school VT game.
So here is my biggest
MondayFriday morning take-home message after last night's win:A month ago, a lot of fans (including me) questioned whether Pry could win at VT at all, thought the roster was basically awful, and had little to no faith in the two coordinators as X's and O's coaches.
It really is a fresh approach for Virginia Tech, and I like it.
Which also is a fresh approach for VT, and I like it!
Offense had 3 scoring drives in 2nd half (1 TD and 2 Field Goals).
Still enough to win the game!
Go Hokies!
A week before the season, most books had us at 5.5 not 4.5
Still took over 5.5!

Got across the winning line yesterday as a sweet little bonus. Was a heck of a ride to get there, but these guys did it. Go Hokies.
Nah, I prefer to think we just broke them after the first half.
Chicken shit gimmick for sure, but damn if they didn't pass the ball efficiently.
It's fun when the nit you're picking is that a 28 point beatdown should have been 36 or more.
Did you watch the game?
He was agreeing with you I think.
That's a matter of opinion 😉
Dude, I'm agreeing with you.
Sorry man... my bad... yes! it was awesome. sorry about that
Easy, killer!
whole heartedly agree.
AT THIS JUNCTURE
i have seen way too many 0s in the last few years to complain about drives ending in 3 but not 7
IN THE FUTURE
if we want to raise the ceiling appreciably, some 3s need to be 7
Pry has stated this in almost every press conference and on field interview this year. Need to "finish" drives. Mullen- a great OC- said last night that great offenses score TDs in the red zone.
Yup that all makes sense FOR THE FUTURE.
AT THIS JUNCTURE i will take being Merely Good Enough after the drivel we've witnessed recently
Gotta walk before you can run. There are things to nitpick and scoring too many FGs instead of TDs is one of them, but I'm just happy to feel good about this one for a day.
Yeah that's a great point, and kudos to special teams for executing. If they missed a FG or worse had one blocked, it could've shifted momentum
Late to the FAM party, but Happy FAMsday to all you good people of TKP.
May we have many more such jouyously FAMtasic days ahead.
"And we have a Drones strike in Blacksburg"
Stated after the TD pass to Felton. Brilliantly said.
I'm here for DCWilson's film review of how Shrader carved up our defense for 200 yards rushing.
? I never predicted anything of the sort.
He said their backup (who is probably in his eighth year of eligibility) would come on and do so, as is customary. Somehow, Shrader managed to stay on the field/ground the entire game.
Honestly don't know what TF you two are talking about. I don't.
I saw that on a couple plays in the game. I hope in the excitement of the game they erred from training. Some reps will beat wrap up back into them.
Sir, this is a FAM thread.
Then I shouldn't mention that our video crew is flirting dangerously close to getting a penalty for playing music/noise during play time?
We have one of the loudest, high football IQ fanbases in America and it bothers the fuck out of me that we're replacing actual in-game atmosphere (band, crowd, cheer) with piped in music and gimmicky videos.
I mean im right there with you
Awww Joe, you're making me blush! /s but for real a little bit of video board stuff is ok like the "little bit louder now" or some of the stuff Bailey does during media time outs, but give me stick it in, give me the crowd going absolutely bananas over another video of our players playing guess that building any day
I agree 100% but game/stadium managers have to fill the interminable tv timeouts with something to keep the average fan engaged.
The solution is obviously paper airplanes
... or stadium cup chains!
The only thing I saw last night that I didn't like was espn's crappy intro. It's like they wanted to show it, but also the guys in the booth. Weird.
It's like someone flipped the script...
Literally. In the first half I was watching Syracuse make back breaking penalties on both sides of the ball and couldn't help but think "hey this looks like us earlier in the year." Thankfully our team (players and coaches seemingly) have improved game to game
Amazing what happens when you have a coach that believes in his players and has a defined vision and plan. They might not be the most talented group but he has built their confidence up and made them believe they can compete at this level.
Not only that but a coach who believes in coaching during the season. I don't remember the exact quote but I remember Fuente saying that he preferred the off-season because actual coaching could occur then. During the season there's no time for coaching. It was the strangest thing to say. I'm glad Pry is coaching during the season.
Yeah I want to believe that there was some context that was missing that melded that sound go to Fuente. It's as weird as
StinespringO'cain saying that scoring wasn't the goal every possession. Sure running the clock is important end of game and making into half time with out a blunder is important, but you're the OC you have 1 job, get points on the board!Edit: memory not working so early this morning.
"Stinespring saying that scoring wasn't the goal every possession"
That was Mike O'Cain back when they were co-OCs. Still a tone-deaf, "missing the forest for the trees" statement.
Complaining about small things instead of complaining about big things is the definition of progress for a message board.
Edit: I wasn't entirely accurate.
