WEEK 9: OTHER GAMES THREAD

CFB Game Viewing Guide Link

CATCHING UP: There's been a few interesting games this week. As of Tuesday, Jerry Kill's Aggies are now 6-3, Liberty is still undefeated. On Wednesday, FBS newbies Jax State continued to be good (7-2 with a win over FIU) while FBS Imposter Sam Houston State nearly won it's first game over UTEP (they're 0-8). Opposite our game on Thursday two blue Georgia S- schools that entered FBS about a decade ago played to determine the rightful one (I believe the Eagles beat the Panthers). Yesterday FAU beat Charlotte in a snoozer.

LOOK AHEAD:

NOON: not a lot of games inside of a 7 point spread. WVU @ UCF (-6.5), & WMU @ EMU. At 2, Clemson (-9.5) takes on NC State.

3:30ISH: The first ranked matchups of #8 Oregon @ #13 Utah and #20 Duke @ #18 Louisville (-6.0) kicks off at 3:30. Memphis @ UNT, Mississippi State @ Auburn, Michigan State @ Minnesota, Purdue @ Nebraska, Iowa State @ Baylor and Miami (OH) @ THE Ohio U all have spreads inside or at a Touchdown. At 5:30 and 6:00, contests between Wyoming & Boise State and Marshall @ Coastal expect to be close.

7:00ISH: Tennessee @ #21 Kentucky & Oregon State @ Arizona are expected to be close. While other contests such as #3 anOSU @ UW and Colorado @ #23 UCLA aren't, that doesn't mean these games won't make for interesting TV.

I like football weekends when we've won, now I can go full on hoping for chaos

The blissful feeling during Saturday games, after handing out a Thursday night beatdown is *chef's kiss* 💯

VB born, class of '14

I think I want Louisville (?!) to take down Duke today to give Dook 2 losses in conference...that way we can wreck Ville and give them two losses next week and set ourselves up nicely for the Ship?

Yes I'm getting way too far ahead of myself but the fact I can type this and there's even a slightly remote chance of its possibility is pretty wild all things considered!

If you're reading this mail me West End London Broil pls

Yes, also, WE want to be the next ACC to take Louisville down.

But ideally, Duke gives them a run for the money so they're not TOO fresh.

Doesn't hurt to dream.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

Looks like this is going to happen. So does Tech control their ACCCG destiny now?

need Duke to beat UNC I believe

Why we each have one loss of Tech wins out they beat LOLUVA which would be win over common opponent.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Spencer Rattler is a hot freaking mess. 3 intentional grounding penalties in the first half (not all on the OL BTW). There are other issues with that team (defense, here's looking at you), but none more glaring IMO than the QB.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Indiana within a FG and driving on Penn State in the 4th.

Kansas keeping it close with Oklahoma coming out of the half.

Penn State playing in their feelings because of last week and are about to play themselves out of the Big Ten/Playoff chase

James Franklin as a Recruiter = outstanding.

James Franklin as gameday Coach = doo doo

Go hoosiers!

How is that game a psu -30? WTF, there's no way that could do that on a p5 team

They beat northwestern and Iowa by about 30 points each

Is Maryland going to start 5-0 and finish 0-7? They have PSU and Michigan which look like losses and then Rutgers which is playing good football. Their bowl eligibility looks to be hanging on Nebraska, which just beat NW which just beat UMd. Also in the last 5 games Nebraska is 4-1 with a loss to Michigan. Rhule is making an impact.

That would make sense for a Mike Locksley coached team. Maybe he just got some advice from Dino Babers this offseason.

The legend of September Maryland continues to grow.

This would be the most Septemberest Maryland ever.

If you want to see the ultimate pancake block, look at the K State lineman just de-cleat the Houston defender on this one. Link in on ESPN for the K State-Houston game.

And Kansas just takes a 4th quarter lead on Oklahoma.

Kwamie Lassiter came down with that last Hail Mary (out of bounds). His dad, also Kwamie was nearly a Hokie back in the 1990s, ended up playing for Kansas (they're from Hampton Roads).

Love seeing undefeated teams go down. Well done Kansas

Yes, indeed. Was really hoping Penn State would drop another one, but was fun to see Kansas get the W here.

Man, that RB for Louisville is a beast...

Is there anyone in the Brohm family not work for Louisville? Seems like the broadcast has shown like 6 members of his family.

Same week that the Michigan cheating scandal breaks, #6 Oklahoma, led by Venables (who has long had sign stealing rumors swirling around him from his time at Clemson) loses to Kansas

Louisville is running all over Duke.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Hopefully getting all that out today and have nothing next week

Their D looks much more formidable than I anticipated.

Louisville gonna be a real tough opponent. I feel like it might be another game where we score 17 points

Onward and upward

I think it's a game that we have to hope that we're in it and competitive for 4 quarters. A win is a bonus.

I think they are easily our biggest remaining test on the schedule. If we can stay competitive with them for 4 quarters I'll feel pretty good about making it to the post season

Onward and upward

Bahahahah clemson

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Keep an eye on Clemson players into the portal after the season, if not sooner

Yeah..this could be a hard fall for Dabo & Co.

This doesn't seem like a one year aberration anymore. Bringing Briles Riley in to run "the Clemson offense" at least clarified one thing---the Clemson Offense ain't real good.

Poor timing for the poor Tigers too...without a dominant Football Program they have.....uhh....????.....to offer the B1G or SEC.

Klubnik just doesn't look good. They must really have nothing behind him.

So is Miami still a sham or has UVA worked on something???

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Both?

Wouldn't it be something for both VT and loluva to have something to play for when we meet next month...no one would have even considered that a few weeks ago.

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

UVA seems to have figured something out, but they somehow always play Miami close.

To join the masses: both, but I think uva is a very different team with muskett

I'm still figuring this out.

I just watched the most hilarious sequence of events in the ND Pitt game:
- Pitt QB throws a pick six
- When Pitt gets the ball back, he makes the most ill-advised lob into triple coverage and ND picks him off again
- Pitt manages to stop ND on the next drive
- ND punts, Pitt attempts to catch it at the three yard line, muffs it directly into the end zone, and ND recovers for a TD.

Pitt is just the sloppiest collection of idiots I've ever seen.

Ya just hate to see Nardouche get what he deserves

Nope, I love seeing it.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Who would've thought that we'd have the same record as Clemson 8 games into the season.

I mean, I thought both teams would be 7-1, so not too crazy of a thought 😉

So

23-23. 27 seconds left
Ball on your own 25. 3 timeouts.

And NOW you kneel to go into OT? You serious Clark?

Looks like it worked out for the U.

Should be practiced the V formation before the other week against GT

Mario Cristobal, getting paid millions just to learn this here sport on the fly.

Good good good. Good weekend

Now I just want to score on uofl

Also go cal!

How did we lose to Marshall?

It took Crooks more than an off-season to teach the Oline to block?

Gonna be so much fun having this school in the ACC

Nard dog just made a choice here. Let's see how his players react.

Woooow. Remember that scene from the animated Aladdin?

Wow I already thought Narduzzi was massive tool but somehow he continues one-up himself.

Publicly admonishing your players---great way to ignite your next recruiting class.

We should start recruiting some DLs from them

I saw about 4 or 5 QT's from current players reacting to the quote and they weren't great

Narduzzi:

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Athletic deleted the tweet. Anyone got a screen shot?

I'm not sure if anybody grabbed the screenshot, but the quote was:

"We lost a lot of good players last year. We thought we'd replace them and we obviously didn't do a good job with that."

I don't do Xitter but the player replies were to the Xit linked above. (I think the Athletic just took screen shots of all of this and Xat that out).

EDIT: This little Xit over here shows some of the players take on the quote.

I don't do Xitter but the player replies were to the Xit linked above. (I think the Athletic just took screen shots of all of this and Xat that out).

Huh?

I don't do Twitter but the player replies were to the Twit linked above. (I think the Athletic just took screen shots of all of this and twat that out).

I have never use Twitter but 90% sure that's the verbiage they use.

Huh huh huuuh, you said "twat"

It may have been a twit who sent it, but the posts were called tweets.

To refer to the past tense, you can say "tweeted" to avoid criticism.

Just trying to be helpful, as I'm sure I don't know the lingo.

I said that Washington was the only team I truly liked that had a reasonable chance of winning it all this year. But watching them struggle massively against Stanford, I can't see them as having any real chance to win it all. They may win - probably will win - this game. But man, almost no chance of beating multiple top teams in the playoffs. Defense giving up too many points and offense good but not dominant.

Edit, just hoping the Huskies escape with a win so I can hope for at least 1 more week.

GT giving unc all they can handle. How beautiful would it be of GT could pull it off, giving unc 2 straight losses?

Onward and upward

Come on Bumblebees, do what you need to do

That is a fumble!

I'm still figuring this out.

What a hit to separate the ball from the receiver too. Just whammed him as he was looking for the defenders in the wrong direction.

Welp he's up now. After terrible conversation and worse discussion. Would have been a perfect time for one of those 3 minute commercial breaks.

I'm still figuring this out.

Thankfully I didn't have to listen since I'm watching hockey as my main thing, but it's unsurprising that one left a mark. He got blown up.

Bumblebees of GiT win!

Game: blouses (jackets)

I'm still figuring this out.

Lol at unc. I love seeing those fuckers lose

Pretty beautiful, it is

Just checked the scores. ODU giving JMU all they can handle. Has anyone been watching this one?

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

I watched first half and switched to gt unc. Will go back after this one's over. I was thinking the same thing after looking at scores.

I'm still figuring this out.

BEEEEEEEEES

"Exit light..."

Down go the Tar Holes!!! 😂😂😂😂

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Lol UNC falls, so guess who is alone in 3rd in the ACC

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

And just like that, we control our destiny. A win next week and we're looking at s potential rematch with fsu. The crazy part is that I could actually see this team beating Louisville. We shall see

Onward and upward

Wow, I don't know if I could have expected this much mayhem at this point of the season. It seems that by eliminating the divisions the Coastal Chaos spread throughout the entire ACC.

- Clemson won't have a 10-win season for the first time since 2010
- UNC lost two weeks in a row to unranked bottom of the ACC teams
- Duke looked promising but has basically shit themselves in the last few weeks
- Once again, it has been confirmed that the U is not back.
- The two teams in control of their destiny in the ACC? Undefeated 8-0 FSU and 4-4 Virginia Tech

GOBBLES FEROCIOUSLY

Is Louisville not in control of their destiny?

Onward and upward

No. They have to play us.

Lol. Let's not put the cart ahead of the horse. We have to play them too. I think we could beat Louisville but they could just as easily beat us. I think they have more talent so if we win it's going to have to be because of coaching.

Onward and upward

Absolutely, but how amazing is it to be a wee bit hopeful vs just resigned to our fate at the bottom of the ACC?

I definitely didn't think we'd be even remotely in contention for the acc going into November. What Pry and Co have done in the last month is really truly incredible

Onward and upward

Agreed. If Pry & Co can somehow get us into the ACCCG there's no way he doesn't get ACC CotY.

That said, I'm ready for a heartbreak.

The 3 acc teams we've beaten are the bottom 3 teams in the league right now. The wins might be fool's gold. But I'm still pleased that we beat those three teams handily. And we beat all of them. In the past we weren't beating all the bad teams. And if we did beat them, they were close, unconvincing wins. The fact we're dominating bad teams is a big sign of progress for me. Now the coaches need to go out and get some more talent and continue to develop the roster. Next season we should start to be competitive with the good teams. We'll find out next week if we can do that (I have my doubts) but I think that would be ahead of schedule for this rebuild.

Onward and upward

I'll take "beating the bad teams" over "not beating the bad teams" any time.

Seems like the bottom of the ACC has been beating the top of the league pretty handily.

I 99% expect us to lose to Loserville, but they did lose to a truly horrible Pitt team. So there's always that glimmer of hope. If UVA, Pitt, and GIT can knock off Loserville, UNC (twice), and Miami... why not us?

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

You win one game at a time. We're just trying to get to 1-0 this week.

Fortunately for all, I will not be playing in this week's game.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

Yup. This team is bringing me a lot of joy and we seem to be playing much better football (to my very uneducated eye). But let's not forget the kinds of teams we've beaten on this streak.

Next weekend will be a really fun test of our progress.

Confidence is an intangible that cannot be measured, but it's worth its weight in gold for a team trying to punch above themselves.

We have seen this team fight in every game, even when down multiple scores. Something tells me to temper my expectations, but also believe my eyes. And my eyes tell me, we have the tools to win all of our remaining games.

However, an injury here or there, slow starts, defensive lapses, or missed assignments and we all may be singing a different tune in a few weeks. The "what ifs" if you will.

Go Hokies! Be 1-0 this week!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

They are, if they win out, they play for the conference

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

It was a rhetorical question

Onward and upward

I appreciate SMU capping their score at a very nice 69 points after getting 52 in the first half.

Nice

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Not to be outdone by Narduzzi...this was Coach Prime when asked about his OL not being able to protect Sheduer

"The big picture, you go get new lineman. That's the picture and I'ma paint it perfectly."

What a leader! Just the kind of example young men need. At some point, even these impressionable teenagers are going to get the point...Deion isn't a Coach...he's a hypeman with a whistle and when things get tough, his only solution is to blame his players and try to replace them.

Not...maybe we need to move the pocket or work more 3 step drops to help the OL. Nope, we need to pull their schollies and go back to the Portal...rinse and repeat.

Deion is a narcissistic asshole who has coaching skills that belong in a PeeWee league..."I'ma just get so many good players that it doesn't matter what we run." The sooner he is out of CFB the better..

3 step drops don't help his son's draft stock, he has to bomb it out ever change he gets, Rex Grossman style.

The Ponzi is starting to show from behind the Buffalo costume.

What's crazy is that was a pretty competitive football team when they wanted to be. There's some merit to a complete roster reset, now that scholarships limits allow it.

But there's a right way and there's a wrong way to handle a situation like this. Not sure there's an infinite supply of disposable bodies willing to spend a wasted season in Boulder.

It's always just been a glamour shot. Once you remove all the makeup and filters, Deon is just another ugly-ass coach that wants to be Saban.
