Pitt spring game will probably still have more fans at it than a LOLUVA spring game....

I really wanted to get your thoughts on a team cancelling their Spring Game because they have a "young roster" Seems kind of counter productive unless they really think it will cause significant injuries.
I was just imagining the uproar that would ensue if Frank did this at Tech.

Spring game is for more than just showing off your team - it's potentially a major recruiting day. It's a chance to show prospects how awesome your fanbase is. The only reason to cancel one is if you feel like your fanbase is not, in fact, awesome and that showing recruits an empty stadium would do more harm than good.
Tech has had a couple cancelled in recent years. One, obviously, was following April 16, 2007. Then, I think in 2012, it was cancelled due to weather.
HUGE thunderstorms came through that day in 2012....raining so hard you couldn't see the car
parked beside you.
Yea, it was crazy. I still got out to tailgate, but had to duck into the tents during the squalls. Fun times, fun times.
That said, I was ready to head into the stadium from the tailgating until informed it was cancelled.
...and even then you probably still thought about it until they made it clear they weren't letting anyone in. Thus back to the party in the parking lot.
I know that's what I did! It was so disappointing.
Those are much more palatable reasons than "we have young players" or "our attendance will probably suck."
Sounds like the coaching staff needs to make a visit to Weenie Hut Jr.'s...
This....this was basically where my head was at when I read the article.
I'm hoping the weather doesnt cancel VT's spring game this year. Lots of recruits and fans will be attending. I could careless what UVA does.
Pitt really doesn't have fans, they only have Steelers fans pre-gaming 24 hours early. So there is no fanbase to get riled up with a Spring Game.
You may be right. Check out this link about their 2012 Spring Game:'

They may be closer to LOLUVA than I originally thought.
Apparently 2013 went almost as well.

They have held the last two Spring Games at a high school stadium on a Friday night, rather than a Saturday afternoon on campus (although the main stadium for their home games isn't on campus either which hurts) so no wonder they get piss poor attendance and feel justified cancelling the game altogether this year.
Spring game at a high school stadium, pulling 4-5k? *cringe*
That's just painful.
4-5K was a big step up from that 2012 game apparently.
I saw the pictures. Well, at least it gives UVA a nice taste of what life could actually be like if they went to a real football school - the opportunity to laugh at other programs.
Whatever helps them cope...LOLUVA
I think the worst part about it was reading that Chryst scheduled it at the high schools to help boost recruiting.
Yeah, that's the part I don't get. "Here, look at this place that's the same as where you play now. Don't worry, you'll be playing in a bigger stadium, but we won't show you that yet." I really don't see how playing your spring game at a high school helps sell your program.
I would have thought giving recruits a tour of Heinz Field would have been the ultimate recruiting tool other than a completely brand new stadium on campus might be.
Its a pretty sexy sell:
Even TimeCop might be able to just use his YOU and be successful with this as a backdrop
^^^This
Damn that is an impressive field picture. Great point!
We should be careful here on TKP, Pitt might change their mind because of this thread....
Good point.... Shhhhhh!!
So I have a question in logic. If UVA has a spring game, but no one is there to see it - Did they actually have a spring game???
42
Was the the number of attendee's last year? :D
Maybe 4.2...
Only because a blind, pregnant woman and her dog wandered in on accident. And yes, they counted the dog.
Counted the baby as well is the only explanation
That was my thinking as well.
she was pregnant with triplets...can't forget about that.
YOU!
Recruiting slogan with an equal number of characters as the number of fans at the LOLUVA spring game
