Oh, snap. Where do get the idea for some of these columns? They seem so....timely.

Look for some duplicated info in para 4 and 5 though.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I'm completely ok with the problem of too much talent at QB to make a decision. Don't worry the cream will rise to the top!

He's Still Open!!!

It's March now, that means Spring Football is just around the corner! This QB competition will be something else, and that's great for the program.

One thing for sure is whoever winds up starting will be inexperienced. They will need to be protected. A strong Oline and a servicable running game will be crucial to their success.

Great Interview - Thanks Andy. A couple things I noticed that seem pertinent to Hokie football, past and future:

1. "And when you look back at it, he did great things, but he was also able to be aided and helped with a bunch of older guys that were his receiving corps alone, my gosh, they were all great players." [He's talking about Chad Henne.]

Wow, does that sound like 2011 with LT3...

2. "Because of the graduate exemption rule, he will graduate this semester and be able to play immediately at whichever school he chooses."
"He redshirted in 2011 before getting his first action in 2012, going 34-for-48 for 375 yard and four touchdowns in nine games." He didn't play in 2013
"He'll have two years of eligibility left."

So Brewer got his undergrad degree in 3 years. He can obviously handle a pretty heavy load and football at the same time. Brewer has a demonstrated high mental capacity - gotta love that. The 2 years left of eligibility is a key bit of information. Lefty can work with him and get more than just 1 yr of production for that investment. That is a unique situation.

3. "your starting guy has possibly never played, a guy that you think could be the guy in your program that youre not sure yet. Youre hoping. But youre not sure. Or youre playing a guy thats never been in the program thats an older guy. So if you take those three situations and you eliminate one, now youre down to two. Weve got to make sure that weve got at least every available option to give ourselves a chance to put a guy on the field thats ready to go."

These three underlined above are the Freshman, Leal, and a Transfer guy (in that order). So this is clearly a way to insure he has all these three options available to the team for next Fall. This is pure and simple risk management/risk mitigation. Lefty is really going to go after getting Brewer.

I like the way Lefty thinks. He really has all his "stuff in one can" to use a country phrase (you need to change "stuff" to a 4 letter word - but you get what I mean).
In Lefty We Trust!

Looking forward to the Spring game and then the Fall QB competition as well. It's gonna be interesting.

Loeffler ain't playing.
He knows he has uncertainties and he is trying to get insurance at the QB position with a senior transfer.
Me likely.
Win now, baby, AND work towards the future.
Not that that wasn't the plan before but it's exciting to see some actualization.

+1. Exactly, its visible and apparent. Gotta Love it!!

Sounded to me like there is no number 1 QB headed into spring practice. It's wide open; let the best QB play. I was surprised by how open Loefler was about his QB situation.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

I liked this article. Thank you.

I am not sure of rules so regarding this so please be gentle. Can we get a short summary of the article in addition to the link? Sometimes the title covers it like the James Gayle post. In this instance, I was pleasantly surprised to find an interview. Maybe I am just weird wanting something more to get me hooked in.

If I were you, just to be safe, I'd click on every link I post on here. Sometimes two or three times if you have to.

hahahahaha, oh man, he just floated that one right at you

Onward and upward

Good to hear Loefflers praise for Logan but cant help feeling there was alot of unrealised greatness that Hokie Nation would have loved to see. I hope he can make a career for himself in the NFL. GO HOKIES !!

+1. Yea, lefty was basically grimacing that he didn't get another year at least with him. You can just see him saying: AAaaarrrrggghhh!!

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars

Win. Win. Win. It's hard to conquer the kingdom when we have so many unproven soldiers. Strength in numbers, Lefty's got the right idea. This is VT football we're talking about. If Leal wants the job, dudes gotta earn it. Nothing is defacto anymore. Put more bulls in the ring, the alpha male will emerge. This we know about Loeffler: he wants smarts + toughness. He doesn't lean because of age. None of these cats have much experience. The toughest, most competitive QB wins the job. None of this "preparing for next year". The onus to win is now. Based on his comments about Leal, I doubt seriously he wins the job. Inconsistent, poor decision making, slow...all words to describe him. My money's on a new guy emerging. Don't be so surprised if our starting QB next yr currently isn't even on campus right now. The urgency to win has never been greater. I love these coaches. Go Hokies.

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

And one for QBs as bulls.

I agree with Andy. If he writes a post, you should click on it.

Also, I am glad that Coach Loeffler saw the same thing as we did in our film review. He considers this an open competition and he understood that Leal wasn't prepared to play. And that isn't a good sign, because being a quarterback requires intense preparation. It was evident in his failure to see Byrn and Caleb matched up several times with linebackers in man coverage. When you add in that he doesn't have overwhelming physical ability, the only way he will win the battle is being the most prepared guy who can put the ball where it needs to be.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

So if you take those three situations and you eliminate one, now youre down to two.

Lefty is learning me so much about footballs.
