Need Louisville to lose to Miami on Saturday, then UNC (and VT obviously) to win out. That puts Lville, UNC, and Tech at 6-2. We would win that 3-way tiebreaker.

At least 30 points in each of those wins; 48 in this one and two of them were In dominant fashion. Plus we've had backups playing in the 4th in two games. Those things should be bonuses on the season.

Love the game plan, and Drones looked better in true drop back passing situations than any game in his career by far. He put the ball effectively in tight spots, and while he had more time than last week, it wasn't like he had all day. Bowen made a commitment to involve Drones in the running game in a way that flowed with the Hokies best tailback runs. Unlike last week, where Drones never seemed to keep on read option, this week we saw keepers on split zone read, the counter off the toss play, and the inside zone follow. That f'ed the BC defense up. Not only was Drones getting yards, but those runs early opened up room for the tailbacks.
Parker Clements, some who I haven't complimented much this year, had a real good game.
Defensive line and inside backers were poop again. BC pushed them around, and their misdirection tied up the inside backers. Jayden McDonald was the most effective of the three, while Lawson looked ok in obvious passing situations as a spy. But, against QB run, especially where BC schemed extra blockers... pee-ew. So, why did the Hokies blow out BC? 1) Strong's turnovers, and the offense kept BC off the field. 2) Jenkins and the secondary were freaking terrific in run support to minimize the big plays when the front got shredded other than the first BC scoring drive. Jones was better than you are probably thinking right now, especially when Delane handed off receivers in cover 2 to the boundary side. Strong was playing a lot of press man to the field. I know BC's passing attack isn't great, but that is asking a lot. Two picks and didn't get beaten over the top is answering the bell. Canteen was solid in run support (he made the film review.)
Biggest positives... good game plan, compete level, and enthusiasm. Big bounce back from Drones. And they didn't crap the bed after having success. The let downs were minimal.

It will be in the film review. The gap fits were lousy against QB run, but unlike previous games, the "last line of defense" in the secondary not only made tackles in space, but often did it while getting rid of blockers. There are some big time plays by Delane and Mose Phillips that I highlighted where they averted disaster when a LB busted.

Didn't get to watch, but was keeping up through the ESPN app. The way I see it is that we were bound to lay a stinker at some point, and it just happened to come against a Louisville team who is much better than Tech at this point which exacerbated it. Great bounce back and it seems like we are right back where we were during WF/Cuse.

Looking at the rules (which the ACC may interpret in a completely different manner) if Louisville, VT, and UNC are tied at 6-2 in conference, the following are the 3-way rules
1. Combined winning percentage head-to-head if all teams are common opponents. As UNC has played neither VT nor Louisville, this is skipped
2. If all teams are not common opponents, whoever won that other game. VT lost to Louisville, therefore VT is eliminated
Assuming Louisville has lost and UNC has won out, Louisville wins based on best win (VT).
If it is just a 2 horse race between Louisville and UNC, the tiebreaker is win percentage vs common opponents (GT, NC State, Pitt, Duke, UVA, Miami). In our scenario, Louisville would be 4-2,; UNC would be 4-2. Then it would fall to winning percentage vs common opponents based on those teams' orders of finish, which I think means GT, NC State, Pitt, Duke, UVA, and MIami's common opponents until all ties for placement are broken. I'm not doing that.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Exactly. Tie breakers 1 & 2 are N/A because the teams haven't all played each other and no team has defeated both the other two. So we get to point 3: Win % vs all common opponents.
NC State, Pitt, UVA are common opponents. Since the Hokies and UNC would have to win out for this...
UNC: 2-1 (loss to UVA)
Louisville: 2-1 (loss to Pitt)
VT: 3-0
It could still technically happen.

The fact we're even discussing these scenarios in the middle of November is remarkable in and of itself. This has been a very good building year for this team. I'm impressed by the coaches and proud of the players. Moreover, I'm buoyed by a renewed faith that this staff can get VT back into contention for acc titles. I believe the coaching is there. Now they just need to go out and get talent. Particularly on the lines and at linebacker.

According to ESPN, Miami has a 53.7% change of beating Louisville, VT has a 48.3% chance of beating NC State, and UNC has a 39.4% chance of beating Clemson. Tech has a 63.6% chance of beating Virginia and Carolina has a 64.2% chance of beating State.
So that gives us around 4%!

Some thoughts that may not make the film review.

Biggest positives... good game plan, compete level, and enthusiasm. Big bounce back from Drones. And they didn't crap the bed after having success. The let downs were minimal.
Clements ... had a good game ... except for when he cost us a TD on our first drive.
That wasn't on Clements. It was a snap infraction, Moore double snapped it and Clements jumped on the first snap. They called the penalty on Clements but it was 100% on Moore.
Agreed. He obviously double snapped it. Wasn't Clements fault at all.
I know we all had that feeling of, oh no, here we go again on BC's first TD drive.
French - and I'll defer to you but also would like to challenge as far as I can: it seemed to me that the defense was almost designed to contain runs , like a shell and then ball-hawk. I think we didn't get pressure because we weren't trying to.

JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE GAME! DRONES DROPPING DIMES FAM!
Waking up to a three way tie for third place in the ACC after shellacking BC. Ain't bad! FAM
With UNC playing a rejuvenated Clemson, a win by us will put us all alone in 3rd. Add in a Miami win over Louisville and we'd be tied for 2nd
We could be going into Thanksgiving tied for 2nd in the ACC and bowl eligible.
Going into UVA bowl eligible will take away a lot of the Hoos motivation.
We want a UNC win - if we win out, we need a 3 way tie breaker to occur not a head to head
Then it would fall to winning percentage vs common opponents based on those teams' orders of finish, which I think means GT, NC State, Pitt, Duke, UVA, and MIami's common opponents until all ties for placement are broken. I'm not doing that.
Here is the tiebreaker policy for 3 or more teams:
2. If all teams are not common opponents, the tied team that defeated EACH of the other tied teams.
ACC Tiebreakers

11/25: TBD UNC defeats NC State
11/25: TBD Virginia Tech wins and earns the #2 spot in the ACC Championship Game
None of these (individually) seems remarkably impossible. But, collectively, there's at best a 1% chance of all 5 happening.
