Blacksburg weather

So this will be my first time in Blacksburg in November since 2015. I've looked at the weather but what's the real feel for a game that will be dark by the time we get back to the car? I'll also have my 12 year old daughter with me. How many layers do I need to bring for her?

Looks like a high 58 low 33. Once the sun goes down it gets cold quick. Layers are your friend. A beanie for the kiddo and/or yourself. Unless you are in the sun, the shade with a breeze can also be quite brisk.

Long-sleeve, sweatshirt and a warm jacket might sound like overkill, but if you plan on staying the whole game it'll keep you and her much warmer after sunset.

Good luck and enjoy!

I'd plan on it feeling pretty darn cold, but especially since the sun will be down for much of the game. Saturday will be pretty chilly so I'd pack layers.

I haven't worn pants outside of church or nice dinner in 8 years. This is going to be great

When you have to listen to your kid whine for hours about their hands being cold you pack gloves forever after...

Ehhh idk about gloves. It's not going to be snowing or anything. It's going to be 40 degrees at 8pm. Bibs and a hoodie would do it.

They live in Florida... 40 degrees is a reasonably cold day in most of Florida.

Florida puts out freeze warnings for the roads when the low is 45Β°

I remember when we went to play OK State in the whatever bowl down at the ol citrus bowl in orlanodo. Lady at the hotel said we brought the cold with us. I think it was about 50 degrees that day.

Agreed. But its MUCH drier here than FL - Ask how I know!

I bet my grass is browner than yours!!

Not a drop of rain (until yesterday) since about Labor Day here.

gloves (or chemical hand warmers) will be a must for the daughter.

for old beta-blocker taking me, 55 is the cutoff for golf and fishing. for the band, we'll have a heater going for outdoor gigs with temps in the low 60's

I live probably 20 miles south of Fireman...had the fire pit going on the patio this week (cloudy with temps in the 60's)

Light gloves are nice and a throw blanket for the legs.

Kids going to need a lot of layers you're going to need a t-shirt, shorts, and enough bourbon to not feel feelings.

Now have you thought about teaching your daughter to drive yet?

Posted in the ticket exchange thread but figured this might be a better place to ask...

Headed to the NC State game and was able to get a parking pass in Lot 8. I haven't been to a game in over a decade and I'm bringing my three young kids so figured I'd see if anyone has any advice/tips for tailgating, e.g. how early does it fill up, traffic getting in, potential for getting a perimeter spot so kids can play in the grass, etc.

Also coming back for my first time since 18/19, and bringing my wife who's never been. Glad the weather will be pretty good - kinda chilly but not like the Duke game I went to right before Thanksgiving either 08 or 10, that was frigid

'08, that one was brutal.

Yeah I remember that one too!

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

Still not the coldest football game I've been to. My sister went to App State and I went down for their hate week sometime in the early 2010's talking shit about how I could handle it after making it through the entire '08 game. I was unprepared and overconfident, I had to go back to the space heater at the tailgate near the end of the third, Boone is something else.

App State grad here. Blacksburg is not cold. Boone is cold.

"That's it guys. Let's get out of here. That cold drink's waitin' on us, let's go." - Mike Young after win no. 300.

Couldn't agree more. Drill field is child's play compared to Boone winters.

Blacksburg gets cold; Boone gets colder; Minneapolis gets beyond cold

Well, Mt. Lake research station there in Giles County, you know, right next door to Blacksburg, recorded the all time low temp in Virginia at -30. Blacksburg ain't that far away from Salt Pond Mt.

That was cold, but I have been colder in Lane. Both physically and spiritually.

I thought my wife was going to jail for assault on a concession stand worker when they told her at half they were out of hot chocolate.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

My wife had words with the ladies when they ran out of hand warmers.

Probably cold enough you will want more than one layer of body paint. Bundle your daughter in enough levels to hide plenty of liquid encouragement. Make sure you both have a warm fuzzy hat.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

East side you will be in sun for a couple of hours, West side you will be in shade the entire time.

Sweatshirt to where and hoodie to pull on as it gets cooler. Hand warmers for pockets for kiddo or gloves.

The concrete stadium sucks any heat right out of you once the big solar heater goes down. At least bring a square of cardboard to insulate your seat.

Hey! We're thanks-gating in lot 18! Same spot as always. Feel free to bring the kid and stop by, we'll have a full spread and more than enough food for everyone!

Edit to add: anyone that wants to swing by is more than welcome! We're along the guardrail of Duck Pond Dr. next to the creek.

Going to try to will depend on if flights are on time or not. She asked about stopping by.

A whisk(e)y in the ass pocket is worth 2 layers of clothing. Just sayin'.

If you play it, they will win.

I find 12 year kids tend to complain about the taste of whiskey, but I don't have kids, so what do I really know?

TIL that MVHokie69 doesn't have kids, but does give whiskey to 12 year olds.

🚨 extra questions 🚨
Saw there is a volleyball game and men's basketball game Sunday. My daughter would like to see one or both. Where can we park for those events? I know parking services at Tech can be a bitch to deal with.

We usually park downtown or in the Squire's lot for bball. If you are still looking for tickets for the men's game on Sunday, we got you.

Report from the Airport RV lot. It is breazy/windy this AM, although it is supposed to die down later. I'm standing outside in jeans and sweatshirt. I definitely second/third the recommendation for hats/beanie and gloves (especially for your daughter). If she has a pair of leggings to wear under her jeans that will help with metal bleachers (unles you do chairbacks)

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.
