Neither is our defense. And our offense has looked good most of the last two months so long as we're not playing fsu or Louisville. It'll be very interesting to see which offense shows up against a state defense that is pretty decent. I think that'll be the difference in this game. If we're able to move the ball and get points we can win this. If we're stuck in mud I don't think our defense will do enough to get the dub.

I've warmed a bit to Bowen and can see what he's trying to do/build, even if it's been a rocky road to get here.
I cannot say the same for Marve. I don't see nearly the same improvement on the defensive side of the ball that I've seen on offense. It's the same shit every week.

What was Pry saving timeouts for? Defense was obviously not ready. The slot receiver to the left was uncovered and would have scored untouched had the qb looked that way.

Here's my take on the defensive philosophy in a game like this...
1. Our Lb's and secondary absolutely cannot prevent large plays in the passing game when we are in any sort of zone coverage. Confusion and lack of communication is a real problem (I know how "good" we are at defending the pass, but a big part of that is because offenses don't have to pass against us to beat us). I'd like to see us go to a zero coverage situation.....
2. Another reason for zero coverage is because we aren't able to get any pressure on the QB. Armstrong cannot beat us with his arm alone. Play zero coverage and force him to make quick decisions - he won't beat us doing that.
3. Make a freaking tackle already.

I think I'm seeing the first Tech defensive player miss (mostly attempting sweeping arm tackles). It probably wouldn't make a difference at this point but their yards per catch would be a lot less than the current stats.
This team has yet to play an average game all year, if they're saving one more A game for UVA I'm all for it, but this is still really frustrating, especially when that last 7 was entirely preventable with half decent defensive play calling.
If they kept them at the 20 plus, the field goal was 50/50 and even if they got to the ten, it isn't a sure thing with the wind.

By far the worst defensive performance of the year considering the opponent, scheme and execution.
Our JV coordinators (here's looking at you Marve) are always a step behind seasoned coordinators. We refused to make adjustments in the first half to keep Concepcion in check and now, with some adjustments, Robert Anae is one step ahead.
In games like this we are seeing the difference between what Pry valued when he was hired versus what other P5 coaches value.
Can you imagine trying to bet this team? We were actually favored slightly in this game. Honestly I don't see any talent gap athletically on the field... it is all coaching and scheme. Pry better figure out his coaches real quick or the slight bit of momentum this year is providing will be gone. You just can't show up at home on Senior Day and looks this ill prepared against a team that is basically a mirror of yourself.
I agree that his coordinators are a significant issue, although I do think Bowen is evolving in a positive way. Marve's group has made almost no progress this season. Sure, we've had some good games (against bad teams), but we've also completely shit the bed against average teams (NCSU is an average team).
However, NCSU is vastly superior from a talent standpoint at almost every position. To your point, though, we shouldn't be getting blown out by an average ACC opponent at this point.
I'm not giving NCSU the talent edge by any means. You could agree we match up well. May even have more talent (especially QB, RB, WR, DB and DE). We should not but getting bullied by these guys.

Recruiting is up and we have a brighter future. 6-6 with a possible bowl win is a huge improvement. Even 5-7 is a step up. Don't get too far down. Looking forward to the future.

As a matter of fact, this is what the game against BC could have looked like if they had controlled the ball like NC state.
Defense is our liability, we have to score early and often and take time consuming drives to keep them off the field. It worked against BC, didn't today.

Our defense is atrocious. I'm not overly concerned with the offense. It's better than it was to start the season and as we get better talent I think it will only get better. Defense is a major concern tho

Came here to say that. Defensively, that's what cost us - out inability to stop them on 3rd down. Stop them from converting some of those, and we might have had a different outcome. Plenty to work on as we prep for UVA.
