Born on Third- what situation is every coach stepping into?

Very interesting view of the talent composite for every new coach as they come into the job.

It shows that Fuente came in to a better job than Pry (duh), but it also highlights what a good job Lance Leipold and Jeff Brohm have done in their career.

Also kind of highlights how things fell off a cliff for Clay Helton.

I like the multiple hire timeline, like from Willie Taggert to Mike Norvell or Brohm to Walters. Elko's agent should have this laminated and be carrying this with him. Pry has his work cut out for him for sure.

Interesting graphic. What strikes me (in relation to VT) is that there wasn't a big difference in composite talent, but there was a huge difference in Elo ranking

For those who don't know, Elo ranking is a method used to rank players/entities in a variety of fields (it's very commonly in chess I guess).

So, Fuente's first Roster and Pry's first roster were similar from a 247 perspective. But the Beamer staff scouted/developed the roster at much better rate than Pry Fuente did (not that you needed fancy numbers to realize that).

Anyways, thanks for sharing.

I think you mean

But the Beamer staff scouted/developed the roster at much better rate than Pry Fuente did

Also it's odd, because I feel like there was a real lack of talent on the team last year. Is that talent number coming from the roster on day 1 of the Pry era or Game 1 of the Pry era?

There were some huge misses from recruiting services for the class that Fuente had. Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips were two of the best WRs to ever play for VT and they weren't as highly rated as Eddie Royal or Tre Turner. That defense had so many NFL players where I think only Settle was a big time recruit, the Edmund Brothers I dont think were that big and they went 1st round. The evaluations done at the end of Beamers career were stellar. Stoman wasn't highly rated either, Sam Rogers was a beast.

I was thinking the same thing, Fuente had two first round picks in the Edmunds brothers, I think the team is a bit underrated on the chart for Fuente.

Edmund Brothers, Settles, Stroman, Chuck Clark, Adonis, Facyson, House, Mihota, Motu, Mook, Shegog, Ricky Walker, Hill

It's hard to place anyone from this year's defense on that team.

That's 7 NFL dudes on the Def roster, I would day underrated for sure.

But that year they performed. Afterwards....i got to believe there's some Elo looking into the 4yr average; all (most) left that year then we were asking for Edmund's at the store and they said we have Edmund's at home (it's actually someone like tisdale)

I'm still figuring this out.

Lawson and Tisdale are two guys that can run themselves out of the play faster than any one else we've had

Also remember that we had 356543467 RB's and other major areas were depleted. Those rankings don't account for positions or for actual realized talent.

Ford and Cam Phillips were the last gift from Aaron Moorehead. I believe he is the Eagles WR coach now.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Technically Ford was a gift from Mack Brown as he was committed to UofL and Mack retired so Charlie strong went to Texas and we got Isaiah. And while Ford and Phillips both benefited from Moorehead, Ford was a day one starter and had such an innate sense for the ball that I dont think anyone could teach him that.

I miss Sam Rogers
