We absolutely can't take this one lightly. No reason to. They're likely better than their record this year, and they absolutely want it as badly as we do. This is their bowl game. And if we don't win it, it's also ours.
What fun is a rivalry if we don't give it some importance? I love that some Hoos pretend this isn't their most important rivalry. Every red-blooded Hoo KNOWS that it is.

Yeah, I love how their main excuse for not considering us a rival was that the ACC was all that really mattered to them. We see how that's gone for them.
Nah, they 100% consider us a rival, but when they lose to us they claim the game is important to VT because "all VT grads have in life is football" We superior UVA people on the other hand have basketball, rowing, women's tennis, and lacrosse to be proud of. That's what I hate most about UVA fans. They are holding onto this idea that VT grads are like unemployed, high school drop out Steelers fans- whose lives literally revolve around the games. It absolutely could not be further from the truth. I'm not going to mention that VT basketball is a real thing and has been competitive with UVA the past decade with their best teams in history. I won't mention that. It's super annoying.

Virginia Tech academically has grown leaps and bounds over the past 25 years while UVa has stayed stagnant. Whether they like it or not, we're peer institutions now.

I still don't really understand how we actually won that game. It topped the UNC game that we should have lost like 4 times over and yet still won.
When you watch mid to low tier ACC teams, sometimes it's like neither team wants to win the game. It goes back and forth with blunders and unforced errors everywhere. The aforementioned UVA game, the GT game where Beamer made the face after Pete said something stupid, the UNC game we should have lost. Like both teams wanted to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

I had like ten "close" friends from high school go to LOLUVa. Only one of those friendships survived even the first semester. That shitty school transformed them from fun people to be around to condescending assholes in less than a month. It was shocking to watch. Fuck em. Hang a 50-burger on them and on to bowl practices.

I grew up in Charlottesville. I'll be returning today for Thanksgiving. I know several people associated with uva. Some good, some bad. Interestingly, the folks who I know (and like) associated with that place never attended as students. They work there in some capacity but never attended. The people I know who attended as students are insufferable pricks.
Anyway, my step brother used to work for capitalone in Richmond (he went to a small liberal arts school in Maryland so he's got no dog in this fight) and he told me once that he interviewed and hired several folks from uva and VT (as well as other colleges in VA) and after a while he stopped hiring uva grads because they CONSISTENTLY underperformed and failed to fit in, often because they were just unpleasant personalities. He also noted that most, if not all, of the Hokies he hired worked harder and were better at their jobs than grads from just about any other university in the state.
TL;DR: From an unbiased perspective, wahoos suck.
