The #9 Ladies play Tulane in the Cayman Islands Classic today at 11 AM. I think the only place you can watch is on FLOHOOPS with a subscription. I listened yesterday using the link on Hokie Sports. Yesterday's game was much closer than I expected; however, I did say we could struggle if 2 or more starters had bad games. Even though she had 14 points, I would say Amoore struggled. She was 6 of 16 and 2 or 7 from three with 9 turnovers. Personal fouls also limited the availability of King and Micheaux. Ekh still has not found her groove with only 2 points on 1 of 5 and o for 1 from three. Fortunately for us Liz Kitley had another outstanding game with 31 points and 18 rebounds to go with 5 blocks.
Tulane should not be as big a challenge. They are a small team with no one over 6'1:
Kierra Middleton started the first game, played 20 minutes and disappeared much like Angel Reese at LSU. Three players average 12ppg or more; four starters play 30 minutes or more per game. Three other players play 14-14 minutes per game.
Tulane is 3 and 2 on the year with wins at home against Stetson, 68-57 and Prairie View A&M, 71-46 and on the road at Mercer, 64-58. Their losses were to Nicholls at home, 66-69 and yesterday to LOLUVA, 59-81.
Tulane shoots 36% overall and 30% on three. Over 40% of their shots are taken from beyond the arc accounting for 108 of their 328 points(33%). They are prone to turnovers with an assist to turnover ratio of .85(68/80).
I think Amoore finds her game tonight, shooting better and limiting the turnovers, Kitley gets her usual double-double and the bench play a lot of minutes. Maybe this is the game Coach Brooks finds his best line up. I personally hope that includes Wenzel; I think she's going to be really good and I hope that starts with this year. I don't know whether Ekh, MIcheauz or Summiel is the better fit for the fifth starter; but my guess is that it's Ekh, if she can find her shot. And I would like to see Coach Brooks play his bench more this year; 2 or 3 of them are going to have to be the nucleus next year depending on whether Amoore returns or not. I'd like to see Kitley and Amoore playing 20-25 minutes unless the game is in doubt; so they are fresh for the ACC season and post-season play. Strack needs the development time and Wenzel or someone needs to be ready to replace Amoore, if she decides to move on.
Hokies coast to their fifth win and get ready for LSU Nov 30.
LET'S GO HOKIES!

Interesting I got more legs for posting as a comment than I usually get for starting the thread. And based on the results, I did not deserve them. I did not factor in fatigue from travel and two games in 18 hours. Great job by the ladies.

The lone highlight on the ESPN app looks like they're in a high school gym. Gotta imagine it's hard to get up for that. Fortunate to get the win. Let's get another today!

Yep pretty ridiculous that that was the best they could do but look at the broadcast....ppv streaming only option...at least they didn't pull the fire alarm on this one

Really strange tournament set up....Likely will be three teams that finish 2-0. Hokies, UCLA and LSU assuming Tigers beat LOLUVA. If not then Wahoos finish 2-0 after beating Tulane yesterday 81-59.
UCLA up 36 on Niagara right now to finish 2-0.

Yeah initial stories rarely get legs unless it's a big news item like a football commit.
2 TOs for Amoore in the first 5 minutes, that's 11 in less than 5 quarters....not great!
This quick turnaround from Kansas to Tulane is going to make for some sloppy play.
Seems like too much time at the tiki bar drinking island punch for the ladies
Thank goodness Summiel came to play today. Another hero effort by Kitley too.
The defense though is terrible. Allowing Pratt and Whittington to do whatever they want.
Kitley with three fouls in 3rd qtr...no bueno
Tulane gets free throws with 1.1 seconds left...doh
ESPN not paying attention. 56-51 end of the third
Just trading buckets and now Kitley has four fouls....just awkward basketball
Hokies getting whistled over and over here in the fourth. Even lane violation whistle on free throws.
34 fouls so far. 20 for VT.
20 for Amoore
Hokies whistled for 20 fouls and Tulane in the bonus with half the quarter to go.
Tulane with a 14-7 advantage on FTA
Wow big travel call to get Hokies the ball
Cayla 3-13 from 3. π³
One of her misses was inside but still 3-12. No bueno.
Summiel saving the Hokies today.
Ladies going to survive another dud. Several starters with poor games.
The low number of fouls working against Tulane now. Should have been a technical foul for 6 players on Tulane.
Tulane whistled for 4 fouls in last 5 seconds of the game. SMDH
Two wins within 18 hours!!!!
The lone highlight on the ESPN app looks like they're in a high school gym. Gotta imagine it's hard to get up for that. Fortunate to get the win. Let's get another today!
It actually is a high school gym.
Yep pretty ridiculous that that was the best they could do but look at the broadcast....ppv streaming only option...at least they didn't pull the fire alarm on this one
Tournament champions FAM!
