Curious to hear what game and opponent people want to see when we go bowling?

Almost no chance I'll be going in person, so don't really have a preference for location. But am thinking of opponents as:
Maryland - would love to get another shot at them after the prior debacle.
Someone not very good - sorry, we are 13-21 in bowl games and have not won one since 2016. I just want a damn win. Winning record, keep the recruiting momentum going ...

1: Tennessee in Gator Bowl
2: Kentucky in Dukes Mayo Bowl
3a/3b: Texas Tech in the Armed Forces Bowl, or Independence Bowl
4: SMU in Military Bowl
5 (Tie): Any permutation that is not the Sun Bowl.
LAST: Sun Bowl.
I don't really care on opponent. Would be nice to play someone we can beat. Anything in NC would be doable for me. Could possibly do Annapolis for the military bowl
Pinstripe bowl, because I just moved to NYC lol
Hoping for the Military Bowl because I have a place to crash for free in Downtown Annapolis. Jacksonville would be a doable day trip for me. NYC is always amazing. Fenway (still a bowl there?) would be a nice excuse to visit family.
Anywhere in the coastal south east would be nice. I haven't seen a game live in ages.
I don't care. I'm just...
Annapolis bowl preferred. Don't want to play Kentucky I've had my fill of our players getting punched by WRs moonlighting as QBs.
Kentucky and Louisville got into it during warmups yesterday. Is the coaching staff unaware of what their players are doing or don't care?
Yeah, fuck Kentucky.
Somewhere easy to get to. Not Annapolis
Same. Hates going to Annapolis.
Annapolis v Memphis. Fuente revenge game
That's a prediction, currently on CBS Sports.
Coached by a Hampden Sydney alum who was on the sidelines when I had a hand in beating their punk asses 36-7 back in 1999.
If it makes things better for you, VT's record vs Hampden Sydney is 24-0.
I don't really care. I'm just here for the practices.
Plaid this shizzzz....
As long as they don't pull some crap and give us an ACC opponent I'll be happy
Sitting in for DC: It will be a Boston College rematch, of course!
And Herzlich will call the game.
At this point it would be weird if he didn't
Someone we can beat please. I would love for Pry to finish year 2 with a winning record!
Yeah, I'm not going to any bowl game so any bowl where we can easily get a win. Ending the season with a winning record is a massive W for the program.
Jmu was just declared bowl eligible because not enough teams. Should we smack them in the mouth?
A satisfying reality check for them. I'm down
Conference affiliations be damned. JMU vs. VT in Military Bowl, make it happen.
Doh one
Doh two
Doh three
with this record I would prefer we go to a bowl where we play somebody we either have never played before or haven't played in over 20 years that are from west of the Mississippi. Diversity is the spice of life.
There are two bowls vs pac 12 but I'm not sure I want any of those teams, Cal we will play a lot, we played UCLA a decade ago and it was eh. I want nothing to do with Williams at USC and Utah seems like a bad matchup.
There are a couple AAC teams like Memphis and UTSA that I wouldn't mind beating up on, Rice is an option too.
If we want P5 then TTU, Kansas, Iowa St and WVU aren't bad, I will never turn down a WVU game.
That won't be an issue. I think there is a 0.0001% chance he plays in a bowl game instead of opting out.
didn't think about that
almost on the money. campus technically in East side of the Mississippi but I'll take it.
I'd love Jacksonville - I won't be able to travel anywhere, but would love a chance to meet any of y'all that came down for a game.
Speaking of, I feel like an ass since I always wound up busy when DaveinOP gave me times/places your band was playing. Life has slowed down for me - let me know if your band is playing sometime soon!
And I agree on someone we can beat, but would still be a little challenging. Help us get better for next year!
this Saturday evening (6:30-9:30) at Borrillo's in St Aug. outside in the beer/wine garden...so weather dependent
I think we'll be playing there first and third Saturdays beginning in Jan.
come on down!
Sounds good! I should be able to make it, hopefully the weather holds out...
Dude! My family had the best time in that beer garden out back (Maya's, right?). We did some drinking on our carriage ride to see the St Aug lights on Dec 29th last year then went to Meehan's Irish Pub for a drink. Was standing out back there and heard this high energy Latin music and lots of hoot n hollering. We tracked it down and were at pic below. Had an Absolute Blast! Was a late night and slow next morning. We are repeating this adventure on Dec 27th this year!
Casa Maya Outside Bar
Not New Mexico State
I know beggars can't be choosers and all but I really don't wanna play Libertybibberty in a bowl because fuck em. Anyone else I can be cool with because

Watch us get jmu in Annapolis
Does JMU count as a Sun Belt tie-in? If so, then there are no ACC vs SBC bowls.
I expect/hope ESPN puts JMU vs Liberty. It's probably the best possible G5 storyline and let those 2 start their own in-state rivalry together.
247 is projecting the Hokies to El Paso to take on USC in the Sun Bowl.
This is a USC team that gave up 255.2 ypg through the air (UVA gave up 224.8) and approximately the same rushing yards per game allowed as UVA, and Caleb Williams is expected to opt out for the draft, so they'd be starting a QB who hasn't thrown a pass since September, and an OL that has given up almost as many sacks as UVA had up until yesterday.
I'm down for the matchup. Not cool with the location. Charlotte or Annapolis is about the max I can tolerate for travel this year.
This is sort of ideal. In 10 years, no one will talk about who didn't play. They'll just see a win over USC in a bowl.
Aren't we undefeated against Alabama in bowl games? That sounds impressive!
Just don't look at the rest of our record against them. You might find that is our only victory.
With all due respect Senator, don't bother me with that piddly regular season nonsense. In the history of college football, Alabama has never, ever, ever beaten Virginia Tech in a bowl game - and it's not even close. Our smallest margin of victory is more than 30 points! We own their post season asses.
/ssssssssssss
Yeah but those were preseason games.
As a VT alum, an SC alum, and with parents living about 6 hours from El Paso, this is an ideal matchup and location for me. It seems too good to be true to come to fruition, but we'll see.
That is a fun bowl too. Saw the VT UCLA game there. Not a bad seat in the stadium, they close the streets down near there for partying/tailgating and the city takes pride in hosting it. It's a solid bowl. It's much better than the freezing cold, terrible traffic, terrible parking scenario that is the Military Bowl for example.
I've never been to El Paso. As a kid, my dad took me to Las Cruces to see his alma mater NMSU, but didn't venture the hour further south. It is definitely a destination I would like to check out. And there's an equal chance of it being sunny and 70 degrees as it being sunny and 35 degrees. So, generally should be good weather too.
Yes, it certainly could be cold, but chances are its a light jacket type day at worst. The city takes pride in it- there will be a lot of locals at the game with no hard rooting interest. You should go- its a fun game. Don't be a D Bag and go to Juarez for fun- don't do it. Avoid that and you will have a good time.
Just don't go to Juarez period.
The company that makes the wiring harnesses for Volvo trucks is located there. My old roommate was a wiring harness inspector for Volvo in Dublin. They sent him down there for some training. He mentioned seeing jeeps with machine guns mounted on the backs. Then realized they didn't belong to the police... He got out as soon as he could.
Yep- El Paso is the same culture, same climate, literally 1 mile away, same food, and in 2023- the alcohol prices aren't much different etc. AND you won't likely get killed or kidnapped.
Yea, Juarez is a no go.
We'll see where VT ends up. I'll try to make the trip if it's either the Sun Bowl or Holiday Bowl.
If it's a day game it's likely in the 50s but once the sun is down it's going to be mid 30s. Looks like it's slated 4-9pm window so a bit of both.

less than 0% chance Williams plays in that bowl
Nor should he. Zero benefit, huge risk
He surely doesn't want to impede his fashion career. Can't walk a runway with a limp!
247 is projecting the Hokies to El Paso to take on USC in the Sun Bowl.
I'd be completely on board with that. Would be fun to see the Hokies play USC, and I'd be able to watch that game live. (on TV, from Europe).
https://www.sunbowl.org/
Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see they have their core target teams identified for the game... looks to me like we're outside that window.
I feel like if they pick anyone except Clemson those PAC teams are going to whip up on the ACC teams.
Wait is that list saying we were too good in conference play to go to the Sun Bowl??
More or less...Yup.
That's how I interpreted it
Rumor on Reddit is Miami vs Oregon State for the Sun Bowl
Bad choice Sun Bowl. Miami doesn't show up for their home games let alone travel.
With each passing year comes confirmation at how much Jimmy Johnson, Erickson, etc were cheating. Its such an obvious joke. Miami is a middling ACC team now with no fan support- nothing more. Have not been relevant in 20 years. Hmmmm what was their secret when they were the Alabama of the 80's-2000? Just great coaching and luck I suppose. lolololololol.
I mean Erickson and Johnson were both good coaches. Amd a lot of their guys were unknown, not high on anyone's radar. Do I think they cheat, yeah just like all the big programs but I another few years kids will think VT was cheating to get Vick because why would he come to a program like VT.
https://theweek.com/articles/482403/u-miamis-booster-bombshell-craziest-...
From the article "73 players, 7 coaches and 3 staff members who took part in the impropriety in some manner."
This isn't your typical 'made contact with player outside the recruiting window' violation; this was a hedge fund manager diverting funds to hookers and blow for Miami's recruits, players, and even coaches.
So, I let me get this straight, someone says Erickson and Johnson were good coaches and this is your rebuttal? They coached from 89-94 and 84-88, respectively. The article you posted is about a scandal from 2002-2010. I mean, I hate Miami as much as the next hokie, but I just don't see how this is a constructive response.
It was a different time - college football was so much more local 20-40 years ago than it is now. Some of those Miami teams were at least 50% Miami kids, and over 80% kids from Florida.
Now, (literally) every team has a guy with Florida connections. 30 years ago, the thought of Ohio State having 10 Florida guys was insane. Now it's expected.
Also, Jimmy Johnson won a Super Bowl. So it's not like he wasn't capable of coaching ball.
Nope nope nope. The only possible explanation is cheating. /s
You are fucking hilarious. You are. Miami has actually been sanctioned for cheating multiple times and Nevin Sharpiro went to jail etc. Multiple NCAA violations, but I'm making shit up. Fucking funny man.
https://www.upi.com/Archives/1995/12/01/University-of-Miami-sanctioned-b...
Losing the old OB stadium in Little Havanna killed their home field advantage and local fan support... and maybe even the program. Banishing them to a cookie cutter NFL stadium off the highway in some shitty exurb miles outside the city means going to a canes game is essentially like going to Applebees.
< fart noise >
Bowls know VT travels well. I forget the rules but I think we'd get picked before BC and Syracuse, coin flip with GT (all 6-6).
Most recently played at Pinstripe and Belk (rip) Bowls against Maryland and Kentucky, so hopefully not a repeat there. If BC doesn't get it, give me the bowl in Fenway against an AAC team, with hopes of a win and 7-6 record.
Miss me with ODU/biberty/jmu, we have them on the schedule enough and I'd rather not see them anymore than we already have to
The Athletic is predicting a Belk (now Dukes Mayo) Bowl rematch with Kentucky. No thanks.
yeah, I wouldn't want that - however, if we are in the
BelkDuke's Mayo bowl against just about anyone else I'd probably try to go since it's not too far for meI might go to Annapolis if we're in the Military Bowl because I have a brother living there and it would be a nice excuse to go visit
Otherwise, I'll be watching on TV, most likely
Been to the military bowl 3 times. Shitty weather 3 times. Fuente choke job once. no thanks
I went once in 2014 when Shane Beamer was the acting head coach (I think Frank was ill) and we throttled Cincy 33-17. The weather was great.
Sidenote: VT has only played in the Military Bowl twice and one of them we had good weather (I was there, I remember) so which other two games did you go to? The Fuente choke-job was 2018 (I wasn't there, don't remember the weather) but that means you've been to two other games there that weren't VT. My question is, who were you there to watch?
I went when Marshall throttled Murland and the weather was great.
Saw Navy/Pitt and the 2 VT games. - note: Friend is on the Military Bowl committee or something like that. I could have gone every year if I wanted. I lived in MD until this spring. Also note- context... by shitty weather I remember cold and or rain/overcast- I don't mean blizzard. And it's Nap town in Dec. It's not going to be mid 60's.
yeah, I guess that checks out - Navy and Temple have each appeared 3 times in the Military Bowl (but, interestingly, they've never played each other in the bowl)
The Navy game I saw- I could not have cared less... I was there to tailgate etc. I thought it was Temple, but it was Pitt
I saw Temple-UCLA there when it was in RFK.
Should have kept it at RFK. Such a better place for it.
Was a fun place to watch a game
Really was. Have seen Redskins, Nationals, DC United, college football, USMNT soccer and a couple concerts there. They used the DC Armory nearby for other indoor/fan fest type events as well. Parking lots were well positioned and great for tailgating.
Has there ever been any talk of a bowl game at Audi Field? Seems like it would be the perfect size.
Nah, need to stop taking bowl games to freezing weather, IMO
So you don't want the Wisconsin Cheese Bowl in Green Bay, Wisconsin?
Nope, but with a million lower tier bowls with nothing on the line, Detroit is actually as good a place as any- cheap flights, no hotel gouging, dome stadium - so for that 4 hours, you are not using hand warmers at least. My caveat is of course, I'm not talking about NY6 type bowls- just the million others you can't distinguish. May as well NOT freeze.
I dunno, give me a Snow Bowl every year where 2 teams get to play in a blizzard. Those games are ALWAYS memorable, and I rarely hear players not speak of them fondly.
As I have said, it won't be anything to do with the fan experience if they schedule a bowl in anchorage. It will be about money and TV ratings of course. Like the NFL- they care about TV viewers, not fans in the seats. See the many times that NE games were 8:30 pm starts in January while a dome team played at 1pm. WGAF if Pats fans have to sit in weather 40 degrees colder at night vs. daytime. Its all about $$$$$$$$. Same with bowls.
Having lived in New England, the residents know how to deal with the weather and stay warm. Look at the January games in Green Bay where it is colder than NE.
Not denying that- my point is that if the NFL cared about the fans that have to sit in the stands, when they have 2 locations - Indy - a dome- and NE where the temp drops 30 degrees at sunset- which is 4pm in January, they choose the higher rated TV game for the night window. Zero regard for the in-person fans as that doesn't drive the most money.
Yea or Jacksonville where noon games cause hundreds to be treated by EMS at start of the season
Absolutely, a group of friends and I went to every Military Bowl that was at RFK. Tickets were cheap and it was really convenient being in DC and having the metro to get there. At the San Jose St and Bowling Green game, we were able to sneak into a box that had been left unlocked. Spent over half the game in the box before event staff/security realized it and kicked us out.
Well, in that case I'm gonna call bs on
because I was there for one of the two VT games and the weather was great. Chilly. Not too cold. Clear, no precipitation. So unless you're a weeny who can't stand a little chill I can't imagine there is any reason to claim shitty weather.
The VT cincy game in 2014 weather was shit- We had heaters, etc out - I remember that. And it did in fact rain for part of the game in 2017..how do I know that? Everyone huddled in the box we were in to get out of the rain. Don't know what games you watched. And like I said- I clarified that it wasn't cancelled due to a blizzard.
You and I have different memories of that game. I remember the weather being beautiful. It got a little chilly when the sun went down, but otherwise it was great. Maybe I'm just looking through rose colored glasses.
2014- 45 and windy... - shit weather - https://www.ivanmorozov.com/blog/2014/12/football-military-bowl-virginia...
This story talks about the rain - https://militarybowl.org/cincinnati-wins-the-2018-military-bowl-presente...
so, I'm only talking about the 2014 game(the one I attended) and your link says it was 45 with blue skies and a SE wind between 3-5 MPH which is...barely a breeze. That is beautiful weather for December in the mid-atlantic. Is it 70 and sunny with 0% humidity like SoCal? No. But it's not "shitty weather" either. No rain. No tornados. Not below freezing. You're a weenie.
Good weather in mid-Atlantic in December does not equal good bowl game weather. All these cold outdoor bowls for a glorified scrimmage...
And yes, although I grew up in NoVA, I've now lived in SoCal for 15 years and I'm a weenie. But, don't hate that I like comfort.
Was there as well. I want to say it was 60 degrees and sunny. Beautiful football weather for December.
Bahamas Bowl
That's not actually a bowl this year. The stadium renovations aren't finished
Guess it's still a bowl but in the tropical Charlotte paradise
So looking through bowl games why do none of the lists of bowl afflictions also list the location. Really annoying when the bowl game names keep changing.
Yep...just following the Etymology of the Pop Tarts Bowl is a chore in itself.
PopTarts Bowl fka Cheeze-it Bowl fka Camping World Bowl fka Russell Athletic Bowl....and that's just in ~ 10 yrs.
The Fill-in-the-Blank bowl.
That's the bowl the ACC got to keep in our deal with ND- which gave them the best olympic sports home and they keep all of their NBC money. It was a great deal for the ACC- the pop tarts bowl in the rota. Superb deal for the ACC.
I love this whether that was a typo OR sarcastic substitution LOL
Well, there IS a team out there laying claim to being the first Virginia school to go 12-0.
I don't even care if its to stop them from saying that, no.
I would love to play USC. Big name team that isn't that good.
I think it would be fun to say we are playing USC in a bowl game, but you are gonna give Lincoln Riley a month to scheme up his dynamic offense against a young DC who's young defense is prone to getting confused. That game would look like old school big 12 football at its finest a million points and no defense
On paper, USC would totally destroy us. The hope we'd have is that USC's players just won't care about the game. Top players opting out and a lot of the others that play just loafing around. That is probably the only way we have a chance against them.
But this is exactly what I want out of a bowl game between two mediocre teams.
fireworks are fun. Score all the points. Break 100. I loved when we beat Tulsa like 55-52. That was such a fun game to watch (even if a little anxiety inducing)
Exactly. Do I want to watch that game every week? No. But that's exactly what I want out of two 6/7 win teams that probably won't play for another 10+ years.
I am very intrigued as to how Pry approaches bowl prep - an often criticism of Beamer. Funny thing is- I spoke with Bud at a recruiting event once and he said he honestly thought the Kansas bowl was the best prep/practice they had. At any rate- Interested to see how Pry approaches bowls. He's never coached in one. Does he put the pads on and go after it and treat it life/death? Or does he use prep as scout team vs. good? Mack Brown tells the story of visiting Paterno early in his career because Paterno won bowl games and he didn't. Paterno told him to prepare as he would for a championship and do some good on good work.
This ☝️
I would much prefer if Pry & the players have a "this is our championship" mentality because if we want to compete for The Championship down the road, we should establish the mentality and processes now to give ourselves the best shot possible.
The flip side of that is do you give all the extra practice reps and playing time to guys who are leaving in order to win the game?
Under different circumstances I would agree with you, but this particular year there are so few players who will exhaust eligibility that it can be handled differently than with a senior laden team.
I'd rather win as many games as possible, especially the bowl games. Which PSU has been so good at and VT has been so bad at over the years. Get the best players that way.
But I do see your point as well to make sure people get more experience for the next season.
I think the Portal era has really made the approach to Bowl practices interesting.
For a team like VT, you could make a reasonable case for either approach.
Approach 1: prepare like it's the CFP, all starters and 1's vs. 1's in practice
Approach 2: plug in younger players (particularly at positions where you have departing players) and essentially prepare like it is game #1 of 2024.
If I were Pry, I would personally probably take #2 and have lots of younger players at DT, OL, and LB getting heavy reps to see who projects as a contributor and how deep I need to mine the Portal.
Probably not the most satisfying for the fans, but from a macro perspective seems most beneficial for a rebuilding Program.
Given that we finished tied for 4th in the conference, aren't we technically eligible for any of the bowls to pick us, outside of the Orange?
We haven't been to a bowl in a few years, our fanbase travels better than the vast majority in the conference. I bet we end up going higher in the pecking order than you'd initially think.
Hell, if we were still in divisions, we'd be in the ACCCG (tie-breaker over GT win% vs common opponents)
I'd say we can certainly get any of the Tier 1 bowls.
Which is why there are no more divisions in the ACC. And a good thing, too. The ACC (not necessarily us) is better off with Louisville vs FSU, rather than a rematch in us vs FSU.
There is no order anymore.
We will definitely be a "Tier 1" pick I assume. The Dukes Mayo Bowl is the best fit if the bowl games goal is ticket sales.
Like everything in CFB these days, absolutely no rules and it's the Wild West. Bowls and teams all jockeying for placement and bowls/sponsors just trying to see who will earn them the most cash.
I guess pop-tarts has never heard of turkey legs 🙄
or

I'm thinking they mean that the guy dressed up as a poptart will actually be edible. Like his costume is actually edible which is just weird.
Yum poptart and sweat
If I'm a player and score a touchdown, no doubt I'm running over to take a bite out of the corner of that pop tart.
Team goal should be consume the mascot before the clock hits double 0s.
There could be nothing more awkward for me than the idea of a grown running at me wanting to take a nibble. (Assuming you're the sad sack inside, of course)
So does it wear a t-shirt that says "eat me"?
Funny story- dormmates girlfriend came up to visit with her friend- got way drunk. In the lobby of Lee Hall dorm where we lived, they often had hot dog sales advertised with flyers with a drawing of an animate hot dog with bubble quote sayin "Eat me in your lobby now"! Said drunk girl pinned the flyer to her shirt and later in the evening was walking around saying "It says eat me in your lobby now but No one will eat me now"!
Swear to God- true story from freshman year 1983!
What were you waiting for, my man?
He did say it was his dormmate's girlfriend. So, maybe bro code?
Exactly! Plus I don't ever take advantage of drunk folks.
Ah, I interpreted it as the dorm mates girlfriend's 'friend' who was the hot dogger...and yes agreed, Hokie Respect all the way!
If it's the Sun Bowl I'm going to my first game since Bristol. So unpopular opinion, let's do El Paso.
(It's a 6.5 hour drive for me. Out west here, that counts as 'close')
That drive through West Texas though (if you are coming from east). Some of the most god forsaken country you will ever drive through.
One of my favorite movie quotes from Glory Road:
Nacho, taco, burrito?
No no. I want a hot doggo
Make sure you're good on gas!!!
I'm probably in the minority, but I love driving through the desert. West Texas and Northern Nevada are two drives I've really enjoyed. Maybe just cause I'm from the Shenandoah Valley and it's so different, but it's pretty in a 'so this is what Mars looks like' kind of way.
From the AZ line through Coachella, Palm Springs, Riverside and into LA is one of the best drives I've ever been on. Mostly desert mountains. Awesome.
As long as I have a full tank of gas, spare tire, and repair kit I am with you on the long drives through the desert.
No I get it. My favorite state in the nation is New Mexico for this exact reason. Albuquerque is an incredibly picturesque city and one I hope to live in some day.
Our agency's regional office was there when I was in Houston...been there maybe 3 dozen times. I always saw it as kind of a niche area. There aren't a ton of different things to do; so it tends to either fit your wheelhouse or it doesn't. We had a lot of turnover, people either really liked it...or really didn't.
It is rather niche. It's always kind of struck me as Desert Roanoke.
I went and visited a friend there after some major unexpected upheaval in my personal life in the summer of 2021. Being out there where you can see for miles, where you can see entire cold fronts and thunderstorms begin and end in a matter of hours, where the Sandia mountains to the east provide beautiful views both of and atop them, I began to heal and feel like myself again.
I suppose that makes me one of the people that really likes it, haha.
Hey man this is a football thread. I feel threatened by emotional awareness.
(I dont actually, that is absolutely breathtaking country, but you don't have to be so normal about it making me miss it.)
Watching weather is definitely a different thing
I regret nothing
I'd never ask you too
for me it kinda depends on where...the Marfa, Alpine, Ft Davis area is pretty cool and the Devil's River north of Del Rio is the last place you'd expect to catch a trophy smallmouth; but endless miles of creosote bush in 108 degree temps with 60 mph winds in west and north TX is probably more like Hell than Mars. There are few if any reasons to ever go to Amarillo.
That place must really suck. I read trophy smallmouth and had to investigate. One of the drainages feeding Devil's River is "Little Satan Creek". I'm also assuming there's a "Satan's Creek" or " Big Satan's Creek". Places don't get names like that for no reason. I think I'll stick to the 16-18" smallmouth I usually catch on the New River.
The Devil's River Natural Area is gorgeous https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/devils-river/nature
Getting there is less so.
I caught a 21" and a couple other smaller fish casting from the bank...UL rod with a small crankbait. That is my lifetime list of smallies.
Through Amarillo, though, to get to the road south to Canyon and their really cool Cowboy Museum.
We primarily went there on our way west camping, and discovered the Palo Duro Canyon. Highly recommend both.
Military Bowl is less than an hour drive for me, so...
Sorta #sauce - my brother in law works in sports marketing in charlotte and has contacts with the mayo bowl.... hearing they love VT and are heavily considering the hokies. UNC was in it too recently and they do not want Duke.
You'd think they would love to have Duke. But I'll take it. If it's in Charlotte, I might actually try going
they want to sell tickets
That is the first purpose of the bowl. Make Money, Hokies would travel better than Duke by far.
Duke? -- the team with no HC, no QB, and no football fan support. Also watch for the max exodus to the portal. Why would anyone love to have Duke?
Duke's mayo bowl...duke university....hmmmm
It should be Duke v JMU in the Dukes Mayo Bowl.
ChangeMyMindMeme.jpeg
Fixed it
vs JMU - the team with no head coach and shouldn't be bowling anyway. Fewer people in the stands than the spring fling in C'ville.
Fixed it
They wouldn't make any money in ticket sales, but think of all the talking heads and social media influencers having a field day with Duke, Dukes, Dukes Mid Mayo Bowl. Free marketing right there.

yeah, I was just joking because Duke --- Duke's --- I don't really think Duke is a desirable team for any bowl
Hearing some rumors about Dukes as well.
As a fan- which bowls, teams, and TV don't give two shits about- I'd like a not freezing/raining, a place you can fly to without 3 stops, and a place big enough where the bowl game on a Wednesday doesn't affect rental car or hotel prices. Way too much to ask, I know but not a bowl in those categories. There are many bowls that fit-bowls in domes, major cities with other things going on etc.
First choice would be to play January 8th at NRG in Houston against a team we could beat, but that is looking less likely now......
Second would be Charlotte against someone new, as I would likely go to that game.
After that, anywhere we can win. The program has a little momentum from rolling LOL, like to keep it going.
I agree. Pry and company still have a bit of work to do to make this season a statement and springboard for next year.
Welcome to the Military Bowl now that FSU got face fucked by ESPN
Yup, here's some background from Bitter on it:
If we get the Military Bowl, it looks like Tulane will be the opponent. They just lost their head coach to Houston.
according to their website, looks like military is tulane v dook
omfg if we get the morganhole mongoloids in the mayo bowl...
do we have a bowl yet?
Nope
Remaining unfilled bowls are the Military Bowl vs Tulane, the Mayo Bowl vs WVU, the Pinstripe Bowl vs Rutgers, or the Sun Bowl vs Oregon St
Florida St, Syracuse, Duke, GT, BC, Clemson, NC State, and Louisville have been placed
VT, Miami, and UNC left to place
And ND, to round out the 4 teams for 4 bowls.
WVU in the Dukes Mayo Bowl vs an ACC team. I want that Black Diamond Trophy 😈
I'll take one of these, but full of mayonnaise please.

Cascading issues have to be worked out with no CFP or Reliaquest Bowl. Shorts ACC by two bowls. Four bowl matches announced are FSU vs Georgia(Orange), Louisville vs USC(Holiday), NC State vs KSU(Pop Tarts), and Clemson vs Kentucky(Gator).
And it wont be pinstripe vs rutgers bc of the rematch and recency factors
Also:
Gasparilla Bowl: Duke/UCF
Birmingham Bowl: GT/Troy
Fenway Bowl: BC/SMU
Boca Raton Bowl: Syracuse/USF
Notre Dame to the Sun Bowl
USA Today says we are going to Military Bowl and UNC to Mayo Bowl
Miami to the Pinstripe
UNC to Mayo
HOKIES TO THE MILITARY BOWL
Hokies v Tulane....man that is an uphill climb there, butttt LFG!
It's poop gif. Only bowl we didn't plan to travel to and take kids. So we miss out on 10 million as a conference for playoff snub and not crap bowl for team and fans.
Sums up my thoughts really well. ESPN has killed my interest to a large degree. All the bowl games a big meh for me now. Feel bad not caring but it's where the last couple days has me mentally.
Eddie Royal and the ACCN crew going off about the FSU snub. It followed the Hokies Basketball game and was a good watch.
I really hope we play Tulane in the Military bowl /s
Well buddy do I have news for you!
Big, if true.
#sauce confirmed we were #1 choice for mayo bowl. It was described as "After CFP the ACC was so frazzled that their scramble to place schools screwed over the mayo bowl"
too late to swap? I'm sure UNCheat would love a trip to sunny Annapolis 2 days after christmas.
Not surprising. They know we will show up for the game. UNC fans don't even show up for games in Chapel Hill. In a tie with other Schools in the ACC we will likely always be the preferable option due to the fact that we actually show up.
And in typical ACC fashion the conference presses to do what it can to benefit UNC at the expense of literally everyone and everything else
