Some big matchups this weekend but a couple of news items that will play into the drama.
FSU QB Rodemaker is doubtful to play in the ACC Championship game. He took a late hit to the head against Florida and is in concussion protocol. If he can't go they will have a freshman starting.
Texas vs Oklahoma State got a secondary story when a dead Longhorn was found on the lawn of frat house with an expletive carved in its hide.
(Fraternity claims the grandparents of a brother asked their grandson to remove an already deceased steer from their farm and this was what they decided to do with it)

They stated that as animal cruelty charges are already being considered. Now they are going to have to a necropsy.
More reasons for the committee to skip FSU even if they win.
They are also reviewing the grandparents property for the gut pile is my understanding. If it's found there it will be pretty hard to prove the case of animal cruelty.
Im confused. Ok State students put dead steer on lawn of ok state frat? Why?
The back story is that supposedly two fraternities at OK St have had an ongoing "war" of dumping dead animals on each other's properties. Supposedly the carving on the steer said F*ck FH (Farmhouse is the fraternity this was found on) The other fraternity involved is AGR. Just a "coincidence" it happened right before Texas game. Either way, apparently there are surveillance cameras in the area that police are working to obtain footage from.
Ill never cry FSU a river in my life, but they have had some tough luck at the end of this season.
Well, I mean it's not as if the Texas Longhorn has not been barbecued before:
"Still, the original longhorn was far from the prized, pampered and protected symbol he is today. In fact, he was almost an afterthought. Security at the South Austin stockyard was lax enough that Texas A&M students broke into Bevo's pen in the winter of 1917 and branded "13-0" on one side – the score of the Aggies' 1915 win in College Station."
"With food and care for the longhorn costing the University fifty cents a day, and nostalgic pangs of school spirit still taking a backseat to a good meal, the original mascot was slaughtered and served at the team's banquet in the winter of 1920, where the freshly defeated A&M players were even invited to chow down. The visiting Aggies were served the side they had branded three years earlier and presented with a part of the hide that still read "13-0."

Back in the early 60s, West Point hosted a number of VPI cadets in the week leading up to the football game between Army and VPI. During their stay, the VPI cadets learned of a West Point plot to slaughter, cook, and eat a turkey for the upcoming WP pep rally.
The location of the hostage was ascertained, and a rescue plan was immediately hatched.
A VPI cadet borrowed the uniform of his senior WP cadet host and convinced the plebes (freshmen) guards to relinquish custody to him. The VPI cadets then spent the next several days hiding and moving the hostage turkey from location to location within the Academy until the turkey made its triumphant, LIVE appearance at the game on the VPI sideline.
The turkey was repatriated back to Blacksburg with the football team. Upon his natural death at the end of a long, full lifetime he was preserved and placed in a place of honor in the Corps of Cadets Museum.
Go NMSU!
Pavia looks straight out of the 90s, I love it
Is this game broadcast only on CBSSN?
Looks like it.
I hope Jerry's Aggies Kill these Jerry's kids.
Back and forth they go. Bibberty just gave up a TD in 22 seconds.
Watching the PAC Championship game and can't help but be sad about the demise of the conference. So much about the direction of college sports seems unsustainable long term.
There's an argument to be made they were the best conference this year and they're folding. Totally sucks.
Liberty already over 450 yards offense with 9:20 left in 3rd.
Their defense though keeps giving up immediate responses.
22 second drive before end of half. Latest one took 12 seconds.
Wow huge drive led by NMSU 3rd string QB there. First plays of the season throws them down the whole field to tie game.
NMSU just got jobbed in the end zone if that isn't overturned. WR and DB simultaneous possession and replay appears to show WR touched ball first even but was ruled interception on the field.
I know we say Fuck Matt Ryan as a meme around here.
But FUCK Liberty.
Oregon's center #58 with the Gladiator "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!" after a TD that is definitely getting called back.
Washington and Oregon super entertaining. Yes, I'm big time pulling for the Huskies (hey, I love dog sledding). But the Ducks with the big comeback looking good.
Didn't see a minute of the CUSA game. Was it as good as the scores running across the bottom of the Washington-Oregon game made it look?
Yeah it was entertaining but would have been better if NMSU had a pulse on defense.
And if they didn't have to go to the 3deep true-frosh qb for that qtr. (now I will say that kid balled but still). NMSU never quit. Lu got some help from the zebras. Twas a good game
Thanks both of you. Wonder if I can see the recoding anywhere.
Washington-Oregon probably coming down to can Washington get 1 first down or not. Get it win. Don't and probably lose at the end of the game. Come on dogs!
Their RB Dillon Johnson was running like a DUDE at the end of the game.
Love to see U Dub silence the haters tonight. They wee big underdogs going into this game despite winning the first meeting this year???
Huskies! I have a team I really like with a playoff chance.
Would be sweet if the Pac12 wins a natty, and a few years from now everyone has to remember that they were a thing.
Go Huskies
Texas just walking all over OK State. Ewers isn't even having to try. 14-15 for 244 and 3 TDs and it's early 2nd quarter
Texas isn't messing around. A couple other games break in their favor today and they are going to find themselves in the CFP.
Maybe not even a couple, maybe just Louisville winning is enough. If Georgia and Michigan do what they are expected to, maybe a beat down win is going to be enough for Texas to leap Ohio St (and I would be all for it).
But then if you are one to enjoy chaos, what if Bama and Iowa both win tonight? The only thing for sure is that makes Washington #1 by default and there is a huge jumbled mess from #2 through #10
And how many years did it take for Texas to start making noise again?
An invite to the $EC didn't hurt their efforts
I mean I'm pretty sure the Vince young years were when I was in HS. But at the same time we haven't been at that level since before that so...
LOL.... Pat McAfee has made a beautiful addition to the GameDay crew
That was amazing, 😂😂
He gets a point for that one.
Nah. He is been nothing but a frat bro addition to espn. His interviews, his antics everything about him takes away from Gameday and espn as a whole. We used to have Tom Ranalidi (sp) and Gene Wojciechowski now we have a guy giving anti vaccine a platform.
You're not wrong. But. (Big ole but) that was a great troll job. On par with any corso mascot head. And is harmless
Now, if you want it talk about the dedicated broadcasts where the camera is on him and his cronies and not the game; yeah totally with you cringe/gross/cheugy/as-if/whack
Getting close to guideline issues here Mr. Fireman....
Need the no SEC playoff. Go FSU and go Bama. Michigan Washington FSU Texas, it's beautiful
I don't see any way we get a non sec playoff. They will put SEC champ over Texas no matter
We got some chaos about to happen

Eff the $EC. They'll find a way to put both of them in there. Texas beat the champ and will be left out. Can't wait til next year.
I think the only team that is safely in right now is Washington. Michigan and FSU are in if they just win. Not even with style points. The rest (Georgia, Bama, Ohio St, and Texas) will all be up for debate for that last spot. Assuming those scenarios play out I would have it like this:
#4 Texas
#5 Bama
#6 Georgia
#7 Ohio St
No one can honestly argue this wouldn't be better:

Insert stev.harvey.my.man.gif.
Bingo.
Really wish they would limit 3 per conference in the 12 team playoff. That would leave out Mizzou (Mizzou's resume is not as good as Ole Miss imo even though they're ranked higher). You'd have Penn State at 9, Ole Miss at 10, OU at 11, SMU at 12 (Liberty played no one, the committee needs to make a statement about that. Make them lose in an NY6 bowl, feed them to a team you know will win.).
Games would be:
7 Ohio State vs 10 Ole Miss -> 2 Washington
6 Georgia vs 11 Oklahoma -> 3 Florida State
8 Oregon vs 9 Penn State -> 1 Michigan
5 Alabama vs 12 SMU -> 4 Texas
This is a solid playoff. Should be chalk first round, second round games are very interesting
Do the NY6 bowls stay when the playoff goes to 12?
I feel so diety that I have to root for F$U tonight to at least have an ACC presence considered in the playoffs. Luckily I have some good beer to cleanse my pallette. But come on...this is like rooting for Duke in the final 4 because you have money on it. It sucks.
Agreed. However rooting for Duke in the final four is even more distasteful IMO
Easy fix, never bet on Duke basketball or loluva anything. Rooting for the devil, even if only for personal financial gain, has got to have done karmic effect.
This is sort of why I always try and make a small, $5-$20, bet against Tech in any bowl game. They win and I am happy. $5-$20 is almost nothing. They lose, well, at least I get a free lunch out of it.
I mean SMU is making a play to be NY6 which would be playoff next year so that's fun. Also is smu gonna be vt when they just joined the acc (dominating)?
They're going to whip up on some teams next year, but won't be ACC contenders for a few years IMO. I think they're 8-4 or 9-5 next year.
HCU W
Vandy 50/50
TCU 50/50
Duke W
Louisville L
BC W
Cal W
FSU L
Pitt W
Stanford W
UVA W
BYU 50/50
Sun Bowl W
I agree not next year but I give em 2 years before they buy an ACC championship team. Kinda /s
I think it'll take 3 years, but this is definitely happening.
Committee should make a statement that Liberty didn't play anyone and put SMU in the NY6.
But also make sure Liberty loses, because no team should finish undefeated and not win the national title imo. Feed em to LSU or Notre Dame in their bowl to make sure they lose
I would feel even dirtier if the SEC snuck two teams in.
Let the chaos begin.
We are on a collision course with 2 SEC teams in playoffs.
Hopefully, the other undefeated teams realize that, and step up.
FSU better win by 100 tonight or we are gonna have yet another dual SEC CFP.
It would be bullshit, but if FSU leaves a shred of doubt, they are gonna be playing in the Orange Bowl.
And you know ESPN is gonna do absolutely anything they can to put their thumb on the scales for their precious SEC.
Which is ridiculous with how low UGAs SoS is.
It would be unprecedented to leave an undefeated P5 champion out of the playoff, but yeah it feels like they're going to want two SEC teams in since it was such a close game. Somebody is going to get the shaft, likely FSU. Which could impact our bowl situation, we ideally need both FSU and Louisville in the NY6. Kind of feel like we should be rooting for Louisville tonight.
Nah, FSU won't get dropped.
It would be really fun to see what might happen if Iowa wins.
1. Washington - New conference next year
2. Texas - New conference next year
3. Ohio State
4. ????
also, SEC Shorts, ScooterMagruder, and SEC Roll Call are going to be must watch
FSU playing a true freshmen 3 star recruit tonight for the ACC championship. Wow
This makes it a little easier to root for them at least.
4 possessions in. This is bad. I fidnt think Travis was that good. He might be.
Seriously fsu offense is looking like us against either fsu or lville right now
But also lville offense looking like us against either fsu or lville right now
12 total plays, 1 total yard
I'm fairly certain our offense would have scored by now if all circumstances were the same.
Go Hawkeyes! Looking for them to at least get a touchdown & beat the over.
Kirk needs to unleash chaos on the last year of the 4 team playoff.

Iowa, Eowyn.
Even the names sound the same.
Can we give NC State the title.
They won by not being in this game.
Nope. No. Not happening.
Damn idk if Iowa can come back from this.
Edit: well they sure as shit won't now.
It's more than 5 points, so no.
I think I am going to go watch something more exciting.
Like the February 2nd, 2019 NC State/VT basketball game.
Or the 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl
Apparently both FSU and Louisville obtained copies of the Brian Ferentz Playbook for tonight's ACCCG.
Everyone is playing Michigan. (dude pointing at his temple.gif) (don't know or care to know how to embed gofs on mobile)
Yay points!
We are almost 3 quarters of the way through the first half and the total combined yardage is still <100
Nobody wants to play this Bama team
Yeah, this Bama team is rolling right now (pun intended). And Milroe is playing at an elevated level here at seasons end as well.
Still shouldn't get in the CFP over Texas
I agree with this statement
Florida State looks so much worse with either backup. I think they are the ones in trouble, not Texas.
And this is why the playoffs need to be based on records, not perception.
I want to watch good football and I would bet a hell of a lot of money on Bama beating FSU
I would bet a small amount you'd be right
Wow that punt could be game changing...FSU already in FG range.
Welp guess not.FSU laying an egg
But like also.... They're winning!!!!
Louisville's offense is not doing so much either
Welp
-Stadium 60% full with obvious gaps even in the lower decks
-3 pts and less than 100 yards for either Offense.
Well done, ACC, you sure know how to put on a National Showcase. And we wonder why nobody takes ACC football seriously.
Kirby Smart talking about the "four best" teams. Here's the thing, you could make a case for 6 teams (UGA, Bama, Michigan, Washington, Texas... then maybe FSU). But UGA isn't definitively better than all or any of those teams (the exception being FSU).
If UGA and Bama both somehow get in....
In a different year maybe, but the SEC won't get two in this year.
I tend to agree except for Washington. I still believe Georgia is quite a bit better than Washington. Just my opinion.
I would have agreed until last night. I also thought Oregon was going to run it up on the Huskies. Proven wrong and feel the Huskies have what it takes to hang with the SEC duo.
Out of the undefeated schools Washington has the best SoS by far. Only Michigan and Texas rank higher at game control. And they are number 1 in strength of record. They are also 4th in yards per play.
While SP+ and FEI don't really like the Huskies a lot of the metrics the committee says they use favor the Huskies. I don't know how that will translate to the games but on paper they have played a harder schedule than the other contenders (sans Texas)
I'm guessing it'll end up Bama, UGA, Wash, Michigan if FSU loses. If Michigan loses too, insert OSU.
No way the $EC doesn't get two is my guess, going on past dynamics of E$PN
Which is just a screw you to Texas.
Oh 100%. But that's $EC and B1G money doing the talking, and I have little doubt they lean in that favor
Oof. Brought out the chains to confirm an obvious turnover on downs (Iowa/um)
Tessitore laying the "maybe FSU doesn't belong" really thick.
Good ESPN company man. All SEC, all the time
Disney+ lost a bunch of subscribers this week, gonna take that $EC money for real now! (Not political, just facts)
they didnt
LOL he just now realized this QB wouldn't be playing in a playoff any way. Interesting to see if he walks any of this back
Yep, he's a bit of a blowhard. Tess is the Musburger of his generation, with better PBP skills and eyesight, and less of a wandering eye.
He's a half pint rob riggle.
This too. I should clarify that I couldn't stand Musburger, ever since he and Gary Danielson phoned it in for the entirety of the 2004 LOLUVA contest. By the second half, both of them sounded like they'd been drinking.
Louisville held on nearly every offensive play against us, now in the ACCCG, Refs decide they actually want to call it.
ACC Officiating: unpredictably terrible every time.
WTH was that from FSU...holy.
Six guys got to the punter
Wow defense saving their ass again.
Palmer threw it right to the defender in the endzone.
This Louisville showing does not make me feel very cash money about how we played them
As mentioned above, the penalties, or lack thereof, contributed to the demise. Maybe not as much as our own incompetence in that game, but still...
I hate that stupid fucking FSU war chant so much I hope they are left out so I don't have to hear it any more this year.
And frankly, it's a great chant, but they do it so much they ruin it.
Looks like Iowa is going to have to score an entire seasons worth of points to catch up with Michigan here late in the 4th.
S/
FSU's D holds Louisville to two FG's, and wins with their 3Ird string QB....I'd say they should be in the playoff.
I was amazed how bad Louisville's offense looked. Give credit to Florida State's defense, but good lord Louisville looked so bad.
Who yall got? Can they really keep the SEC out!?
#1 Michigan vs #4 Florida State
#2 Washington vs #3 Texas
Think it should - emphasis on the word should - be in terms of the teams. But I would flip FSU and Texas having Seminoles 3rd and Longhorns 4th. But I think they will get an SEC team in there one way or another. Keep out Texas.
They should leave them out. Three undefeated P5 conference champions + a one loss P5 champion who beat the SEC champion on the road.
It's an easy decision based on the results today. Money and viewership scares me. ESPN will want the SEC in because iT JuSt MeaNS mOrE and they need those TV ratings.
I think it's:
Michigan
Washington
Florida State
Alabama
It will be easiest for the committee to rationalize Alabama being put in there (they just beat Georgia, loss to Texas was a "different" team, blah, blah, blah).
This is what it should be:
Michigan, Washington, FSU, Texas
But I'd be surprised if that's what we get. No way the committee leaves out the SEC. I won't believe it till it happens.
Here's what I think could happen:
Michigan, Washington, Bama, Texas/OSU
The playoff has been flawed since the very beginning. It's a hill I'll die on. For that reason, this is going to be chaos
I don't think any of it really matters. Michigan will probably win the whole thing. But I'm rooting for Washington whole heartedly
I agree with you on what I think happens. OSU out but your other four in. FSU gets the QB blah blah treatment.
Nailed it
The only thing I know for certain is that at least two schools whose feelings of entitlement cannot even be measured with modern technology are about to be left out of the playoffs.
You are going to see buckets of toddler-throwing-a-tantrum levels of resentment and hyperbole tomorrow.
I love it
Also, who gets the G5 bid? SMU or.... Is Liberty really going to play in the NY6?
Guessing it will be Liberty. 13-0 and ranked vs. 11-2 and unranked in the playoffs at the moment? Granted, SMU is ranked in the AP and will probably be ranked in the next playoff poll.
