Played a really solid second half on offense. Defense was a little lax but closed things out in the last three minutes nicely. Would probably have enjoyed it more if all the college football fuckery hadn't been going on. Hopefully Collins can repeat that kind of performance so I get off his case especially since the focus needs to shift to Beran and whether coaches need to limit him even more. At least four wide open looks with no pressure today and missed them all.

Rob, I'm glad Collins finally found his mojo mainly because I'm growing weary of you and others ragging on him every game. Must be some reason Coach is playing him, but is there any possibility that the man actually being paid to coach this team has his own perspective? Not arguing that he's been struggling offensively, and I have cringed at every miss all year, but again, maybe we just don't see him in the same light as the guy who sees him every day and knows what he's capable of in other facets of the game that helps the team.
I know, unpopular take that I'm sure will be torched in short order, but there you go.

I know why Young keeps playing him. He prioritizes defense and Collins does play better defense than almost all of the guards. The problem I have had is that unlike Wabissa Bede, Collins actually was taking shots and missing to the point that he was a net loss because his defense didn't make up for the lost offensive possessions. If he is even able to shoot 30% from the floor than he at least breaks even. Prior to yesterday though he had only managed above 30% in two other games this season. Until last night he was also 0-11 from outside.
The most frustrating part of Collins offense though is he allows himself to get caught in the air somewhere too far away to lay it up and takes to long to identify a pass so he ends up with a splayed foot toss at the rim that rarely if ever goes in. He needs to focus on taking the one extra step to the basket so it's a layup or he is drawing contact on his shot.
Beran though is worse and after last night actually has a season 3P% lower than Collins. He is 1-15 from outside now on the season. Inside the perimeter he shoots 50% so again when looking at it just need him to do what he does well to limit lost possessions. If he can do that I won't be on his case.

Oh I'm well aware of Collins' offensive problems, and agree with you more than not, always, but I guess I'm just getting the feeling that we're criticising a kid who's struggling, though I know you're really criticising Young, who's paid enough to take it.
I'll be honest here, I'm still pretty wary of the hyper-fan griping about a kid who is doing their best. I'm not trying to tar you with that brush, believe me, but since Maurice DeShazo's tires getting slashed back in the day, I just cringe at repeated dissatisfaction with any VT player in any sport for their on field/floor/pitch production.
Again, I know the reasons for the posts, I watch all the games and have just enough experience rooting for the Hokies since my Highty Tighty days back in '68-69 to understand the games and our shortcomings.
In other words, it's less you than me and I acknowledge that.

How can we only 5 posts on a FAM thread!? Don't let the BS of the CFP ruin a basketball win! Hokies win, we beat Louisville, we are 1-0, and Collns found his shot! LET'S GO!!! โค๏ธ๐ฆ๐

I'm not going to lie, after the CFP decision yesterday I'm finding it difficult to care about college sports in general. If the games don't matter and the bigger brands are always going to be rewarded in the end regardless of results, why should I invest any more of my time and energy into it? If the whole thing is already predetermined and we know we are permanently on the outside looking in, why should I care anymore?
I'm happy for the players on getting a win, but it's like being happy one of our club teams did something. It sucks knowing that forces outside our control are going to permanently keep us back from our goals. And I know, it's not fully like this in basketball... Yet. But the fact it's plaguing football means it's only a matter of time before it gets to every other sport where there is money to be made.

Idk, it sure seems to be in women's basketball, ask uconn, stanford, notre dame, louisville and tennessee. Always pre-season top 10 regardless. LSU and Iowa are the two outliers the last two years only because they have something marketable (Clark and Angel + the clown coach) that espn can gab on about, generate buzz and clicks, and make a profit from.

I had so little confidence after the last two, I went out instead of watching. Saw the score and the replay when I got home. Maybe Collins needs to come off the bench? Great start to ACC play. FAM!

We beat Louisville for the 3rd time in a row! I figured that would have brought at least one more user that regularly decries the cardinals to FAM! Ah well, nevertheless

Stopped watching at half cause I was tired of watching the same bs with zero changes from MY and co.. happy to see Collins found his shot and hope it wasn't just a one off. There is zero excuse Mike young can give for having beran on the floor at this point. Happy for a win but not happy about the state of college sports and conferences and how we're stuck in a sinking ship right now. Also not happy with how pedestrian MY has the homies looking right now with his more senior players making freshman mistakes three games in a row now

If this kid plays college sports this will be his origin story and the source of his NIL

FAM, Collins out of his slump for 20 points. Hope this is the confidence boost he needs for the ACC slate.

I don't care that they're hot garbage now, beating Loseyville always feels good

FAM! Played solidly down the stretch and closed out a game that could have easily gone the other way. 1-0 to start conference play. I'll take it.
