Peebles and Copeland had a combined 8.5 sacks last year.

Brumfield had 3.5 sacks as well and 3 forced fumbles.

I think technically, because Copeland is from a JuCo, he will sign a NLI. His recruitment goes back months.
Even quicker than Peebles. Very fast off the snap. Works leverage pass rush moves well. Very refined technique. Lots of leg drive, he gets into the body of blockers before they can contact him with a good angle. There is a lot to like.

Both Peebles and Copeland are twitch guys that play similar styles. I would like to see a big hoss wagon with some twitch opposite them that has the ability to get in the gap, but at the least can take a double team without getting blown up to keep the linebackers clean.
I mean, Fuga is north of three bills.
But there is only one Fuga, and you need at least a four man rotation. If the fourth man is Pene or Gilliam (as rumored), that is a pretty big drop off.

Do we expect Emmett Laws to play any snaps as a true fresh next year?
If he can be gap sound at his size, it is a possibility. I think he is capable. My biggest worry is that Laws and Copeland (and Peoples and Pene to a lesser extent) are all undersized quick twitch guys. I love Laws, and I think he is one heck of a player. But playing DT as a true freshman is tough. He is one of those guys who I'd like to redshirt even though I think he will be a monster to give him some time to get up to speed.
Laws has my favorite film of any VT DT recruit since Ricky Walker. But, if there is *good* depth in front of him, give him a year to get stronger and unleash him next season. To do that, the Hokies need:
A) Pene to take a big step forward (and based on the UVA game I kind of like Pene at DE, but the coaching staff may not agree.) or,
B) Malachai Madison return healthy and consistently show the upside he flashed in the spring game or,
C) Find a DT that can stick a double team to play 25 snaps a game in the 2nd DT rotation that is better than Pene, Madison, Givens, Law, Laws, or Hanchuk (there has to be some attrition there somewhere) or the current name being batted around (Kevin Gilliam from Oklahoma, whose film is very pedestrian and doesn't look like a scheme fit to me.)
Wow, the additions of Peeples and Copeland along with Fuga sticking around...DT has been addressed and improved from this year. Might need tickets to the 2024 Hype Train at this rate!

Luckily, conference champs make the playoff for next 2 years. But the SEC comish is already arguing that conference champs should not be automatic qualifiers.
Unless they're the SEC champ, in which case you "can't leave them out" no matter what their record is.
Worked for the NJCAA for about four years. The program he is coming from is so strong at continually developing these guys. Back-to-back national champions for a reason. Really excited for this one.
If you watch Copeland's film, you might get fully dipped. He looks pretty damn good.
