The Ladies play at Wake Forest Jan 4 at 6 PM on ACCNx. Watch on your computer. I'm starting my drive to Florida this morning; so you get the tables early without much commentary. I am going to be on the road for the next three days, getting out of Pennsylvania before the snow arrives this week end.

This should be the last warm-up game before we start playing the better teams in the ACC. Wake at 6-7 should not be a challenge. NC State on Sunday will be our first game against a competitive ACC team.
LET'S GO HOKIES!

Is that right? They have 10 guards and 2 forwards?
Now that I think about it, how does our roster compare in (edit:) positional makeup?
Their two forwards are 6'2" and 6'3" it is going to be a long game for them.
Role call - anyone planning to be there? Planning to take the family and hopefully make up for having to sit through the garbage we had to endure last Saturday.
I'll be there with 5yo and 1yo. We'll see how long we manage to stay.
Will be there. Looks like GA seating?
That's what it says. I plan to migrate over behind or near the VT bench. I have no idea what to expect for attendance. Students are still on break, and I have no clue how popular women's basketball is at Wake.
Place is empty. Section 106 behind the bench row K. Hokies dominating the early crowd 150 or so to 50 or so.
I'm actually at the Best Western in Elkin tonight. With a little better planning, I could have been here tomorrow and gone to the game. Maybe next year.
As a Winston-Salem resident, this is a funny quote! Played a couple of gigs in Elkin this past year. Pretty neat town. Some good eating spots on Main Street that hopefully you were able to visit.
Ralph Kitley, being a Wake Forest alum, gets to have his own Dell Curry returns home moment. Let's hope the visitors fair better this time.
I read an article from the four letter discussing each conference and how things are going in each, and it said, about the ACC that things aren't going according to plan because "Virginia Tech has stumbled out of the gate looking to replace Taylor Soule and Kayana Traylor."
I don't think "Losing only against the two teams that competed in the 2023 National Championship, including the National runner up by 4, while beating everybody else to a pulp" counts as "stumbling."
my universal response to E$PN's narrative these days:

# of teams in top 25:
ACC - 6
PACRIP - 5
Big12 - 5
Other - 4
B1G - 3
SEC - 2
Oh yeah, and NET rankings have us 4 spots ahead of LSU
And Tech got hosed by the officials in both games. Clark was allowed to shove off all night until the final three minutes and anytime we breathed on her we got fouled.
LSU was never going to lose the game once they announced it could be their coaches 600th win. The officials made doubly sure of it.
narratives are extremely powerful. Many dictators in history know this fact and have exploited it. ESPN is doing the same thing.
Eh, this narrative will mean absolutely nothing in 2 months. Fortunately in basketball, the matter will be settled on the court and if we generally take of business (a couple of conference game losses and winning the ACC) we will very likely be a 1-seed again.
I didnt watch games as religiously at this time last year as I have this year, but depending on how today goes and the NC State game, I'm ready to feel better about this team come mid-January than I did our team last year at the same time. Last season we were one injury away from being totally F'ed, right now we have Baker shooting 62% from 3 as our number 7 player off the bench, we have a legit big body to back up Liz if needed plus Micheaux can play the 5 if needed, and Ekh has really improve the last month and can play defense, shoot the 3 and put it on the floor, which we didnt really have a ton of last year (Traylor didnt shoot a ton of threes despite having a high %)
Our stumbling out of the gate was the fact that we only returned 3 players from the final four team. Even if Wenzel had been redshirting last year she had no actual game time. They had to learn to play together. Luckily our OOC schedule allowed Brooks a LOT of leeway in practicing different game combinations and gave them all a lot of playtime.
Started good up 10-0 but then let Williams score 10 straight.
19-15 lead after one
Is the color from the overhead camera look odd to anyone else? The baseline cameras seems more normal.
Yeah all the colors are off. Might be the lighting reflecting off the floor washing it. That or just ACCN cameras.
Yea the reflection across the top part of the court all the way across is really annoying.
How was that a shooting foul but the basket didn't count? Didn't think they were in the bonus.
After that call and inlight the tech fouls in the NCSU game for saying "and 1", I was really hoping one of the ladies would have shouted "on the floor" after getting fouled in the act of shooting.
Who was getting what?
During the NCSU vs UVA ladies basketball game early in the week, two techincal fouls were calling for saying "and one" after a made basket.

Last night Kitley made a shot and was fouled but it was called on the floor.
The rim the Hokies are shooting on is so forgiving...so many bounce in shots
Hokies locked things down much better.
Hokies won second qtr. 24-10.
43-26 lead
The group of three chick's chanting something every time the Hokies have the ball really is annoying and shows how empty the place is.
Game stats show 9% of crowd capacity and 60% of those attending are probably Tech fans.
It was probably north of 75% Hokie fans. It was an unbelievable atmosphere for an away game. Still wasn't enough energy for our girls. They came out so flat in the 3rd quarter and allowed Wake to get the momentum. Too many turnovers. The foul calls didn't help, but they played a little loose and complacent. Hoping they got it out of their system
Seeing the academic logo in these ACCN commercials pours sand in my gears.
That's a horseshit offensive call on kitley.
Hokies let Wake go off for 29
64-55
Another game where they kind of take a quarter off on defense leaving game in reach
Not sure I've seen Kenny play that final grouping much if at all this year (Rose at the 5, Olivia at the 4, Baker at the 3 and Ekh at the 2 with Georgia). Definitely doing a lot of mixing and matching, the offense was fine, the defense was meh
Scrubbs walked twice there
Double Double for Kitley
Amoore needs 2 assists
Micheaux needs 3 rebounds
Missed at least five off the backboard in this half down low
Scruggs with the three second hook. Couldn't be a clearer hook to get past Kitley.
Just can't close out on defense
Double Double for Amoore
Can't play like this against NC State
Refs letting post players get away with hooking Kitley constantly is just incredible
Those last two were just awful. Clear elbow in plain view used to get around her.
Pretty sure I don't have enough fingers on one hand to count them.
FAM for the HOKIES!
17 turnovers were way too many. Were outscored 24 - 14 on points off turnovers. Not good. Will get blowed out if that happens Sunday.
That particular officiating crew will cost us a game. Not the first time they have been bad, but the first time I have been sitting that close to see how bad. When WF players knocks over a WF player who falls on Kitley's legs and it's a turnover foul on Kitley.... I have a video of that one. AMOORE steals the ball and the WF player runs into her to get the ball back, who gets called?
The turn around in fouls in the third quarter really looked like the Venmo money cleared for the refs.
I wondered if Kenny got too casual with his mixes because he thought the game was under control. I couldn't really see the game very well; I was trying to watch on my phone on a slow Wi-Fi connection.
Kitley foul trouble forced her off the floor at which point Kenny used a few really weird combos.
I really get the vibes this is a slow burn season. Who knows what we look like in 2024/2025 (assuming Georgia is gone, we have talent but will be super green). I think he knows winning in march is the team goal, and he's willing to suffer through some games like tonight (and maybe a few loses) if it means more experience for deferent lineups and minutes for the new girls. We need to be able to win a sweet 16 game outside of Blacksburg with Kitley picking up 3 first half fouls etc etc

Next up: undefeated #3 NC State
