This is according to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren.
2015 DB Ashton White (Forestvile, Md) has decommitted from Va Tech. Will visit Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Notre Dame, Tennessee & others— Tom VanHaaren (@TomVH) March 8, 2014
White is the third verbal to decommit from the Hokies during the 2015 cycle. Virginia Tech doesn't have a verbal commitment from a player in the Commonwealth. The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

It's only March (333 more days until signing day), the Hokies have commits from two other DBs, a position I will never worry about as long as Torrian Gray is in orange and maroon.

Would love to have him, but you're absolutely right when you say Torrian will find the right guy if he decides not to come. On the other hand, all this on-off stuff is playing with my heart.
It's 11 months away from signing day, commitments/decommitments are meaningless at this point of the game.
Alright, I'm not saying the sky is falling or anything, but this shit is REALLY starting to piss me off!
I have no desire to have a 'white' guy in the defensive backfield anyways.
>cough< Kevin McAdam >cough<. Btw, did you know that traitor is in his 4th year on staff @ wvu!?
I'm somewhat surprised I didn't get a leg for this. Maybe it's because I mentioned him being on staff at worst va u.
Leg for the joke that made me laugh and some people took to seriously.

You don't have much fun, do you, Rocket?
*REMOVED*
I just want to understand better, let's say you were in a bar and someone made a light joke like that, would you stop the conversation and tell the person how tasteless it was? Would you tell them that a simple and harmless joke has no business in a bar?
Where exactly does a joke like that have business?

FWIW, I ran into Danny Coale at Sharkey's in college. I told him I had just enough money to buy one jersey at the bookstore and I was debating between him and Macho Harris. He told me to buy his jersey because "he was the best white wide receiver in the ACC".
Stiny, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rocket is going to piss his pants in anger that Danny would have such a racist and inconsiderate thing to say. Commentary such as that has no place at Sharkey's or anywhere in the world! Do you think Danny was attempting to propogate the horrible stereotype that black people are more athletic than white people!?
#downvotethebuzzkill
For what it's worth, this doesn't offend me at all.
This isn't the office, Rocket. It's an effing sports blog. It seems like the joke has only offended you out of principle...... "WHat if there was a white cornerback at the bar"? WHat if a black person knew i was throwing out the HORRIBLE stereotype that african americans are more athletic than white people - oh, the humanity. I really should have been more sensitive.
Can you just move on when you see something you don't particularly agree with? Do you really have to step off of your pulpit and start downvoting something as truly harmless as that was?
Glad to see your blowing this out of proportion is earning you downvotes.
Ok guys, enough. You've each made your point. Let's move on and hold a productive discussion about the actual topic of this thread.

Settle down and hug it out fuckers! We're all Hokies here.
You're right.
I'm going to apologize here. I didn't mean to start a flame war like this. I disagreed with your joke, that's it. I'm sorry I dragged it out like I did. I let my emotions get the better of me, and that was wrong.
Fair enough. I definitely don't want to come on here to get into spitting contests - I created that kind of environment.
Ready to move forward.
Edit: I could see it was clearly a joke and not meant to actually be offensive. Upvote to keep you from losing too many legs for a joke
THANK YOU.
Note: Michael Cole had one of my favorite interceptions of all time as a safety.
I didn't realize that was you throwing the pick! [sarcastica] How about >cough< KEVIN MCADAM >cough<
Michael Cole... what could have been... :(
not worried.
This is why there should be no verbals. It's useless. When you "commit" you should have to sign your LOI.
It is just a kid who wants to enjoy the recruiting process more. Not worried since a "commitment" this early in the process doesn't really mean much anyways.
Verbal commits a year early are ridiculous....so many of these kids are wishy-washy wafflers...
It gets old..."I want to enjoy the recruiting process"...its a bunch of BS.
I will say it works both ways however....Chris Durkin for instance.
Next man up...
I wouldn't call this BS, recruits get to visit a bunch of unique college towns, party with football players (and their girls), meet famous coaches/players, eat at nice restaurants, etc. A lot of recruits take advantage of all these things, why not? I sure as hell would.
The whole "next man up" thing is getting old. These are young kids that are making a decision that going to affect their entire life. Let them make it. Until the rules of the process change they can commit and de-commit as many times as they like.
I have confidence that we will have defensive backs at our school in future years. Hope this guy finds the right fit for him.
Is there something going on this year or am I misremembering this from prior years?
Nah, I think it all this twitterbook nonsense. Information is instantly available. A few years ago you didn't know when these kids farted. Now the moment they do some Recruiting Analyst has a tweet about it.
I know right. Now I can't go a full day without checking www.recruitfarts.com
I've spent the last 5 minutes trying to decide if I should click this on my work computer...
Is he still considering us or just decided he wanted to go in a different direction?
My thought is that he's trying to enjoy the process and the Hokies are still on the list. I'm not sure why anyone today would commit so early seeing as how schools roll out the red carpet for these future "student athletes". I'd ride it until signing day, and then sign with the good guys
I'm sure he's still considering us, but his decommit casts strong doubts on whether he will recommit. No one who has decommitted from us in the past has ever recommitted. The decommit essentially says, "I've changed my mind."
A decommit basically means somebody has convinced me that your school kinda blows. You never come back from that.
I always thought verbal commitments were the dumbest thing ever. I understand they do that since football recruiting is such a seriously competitive game, but as a former recruit, a verbal commitment was just a bad decision if you're good enough. It was always basically a way to brag to others that you know where you're going and where you'll pay. Honestly, pressuring kids to make a decision this early in the process is stupid, and many do it because they're overwhelmed and caught up in the moment. It's a bad thing, especially since their Sr. season can bring so much improvement and change everything.
I love Beamer and staff, and they're better than most. But EVERY coach does this, "sign right now because I'm looking at a bunch of others that aren't quite as good, but almost as good as you, and ready to commit now, and I'm not sure there will be space for you if they commit soon."
Don't get me wrong, it's business and a very serious one, but 99.9% of recruits don't know the game, and fall victim to a coach that's been playing it for years. Glad this kid has found a way to reopen his options. Picking your college is a serious thing. If he's Hokie material, he'll be a Hokie. If not, I hope he lands where he'll be truly happy.
The most Freudian typo in all of college football
At first, my reaction was:

But then, I remembered that there's 11 months until signing day, and we've got other potential commits coming in. We'll get our DB commits that we want.
Ehh, someone probably showed him some of our alternate uniforms...why else would he look around as a DB? There is no better option as a DB...or so we are told.
Gives him the opportunity to visit other places around the country with red carpet treatment.
eh, just replace him with another fuller
I honestly don't really follow next years recruiting commits, because of this very reason. Sometimes kids commit to look cool or show that they are d1 talent to other players. Its all an image of SWAG or popularity for some of these kids. In a weeks time they could get offered by another school and that's their flavor of the week.
Rarely do we see a kid commit and stay committed unless its to Bama or other National Championship teams.. other than that its pointless to get excited.
I like seeing who is committing where, keep tabs a little on the top recruits in the state (or the top targets we have out of state). But generally I don't pay attention to any of it until the season starts (when I do most of my football attention-giving) or until around signing day. Recruiting is a fun topic, but not to be taken too seriously.

I am going to assume this is Moorehead #ChoppinWood doing the work on the West Coast from his old stomping grounds.
This seems more like a replacement for Jalen Christian at WR.
