That's a lot of punishment to scare A&M from not doing bad things
Need to understand the 1 year disassociation from the collective. Does that mean no football NIL for a year?
What I saw on Reddit is that it is just one particular NIL collective for FSU which has not been involved with football for the last 2 years anyways... No real penalty there.
I had the same thought. But not sure if it would be enforceable anyway. NIL by definition are supposed to be separate from school and between the agency and the player.
This could be interesting. I wonder if FSU will just ignore and continue business as usual, just cementing the fact that the NCAA is worthless. What are they going to do? They don't have any enforcement muscle. Are they going to come down to Tallahassee and physically force these sanctions? No they'll just write mean letters. Can't get the courts/law enforcement involved, there's no breach of law. Just ignore and line up for next season's opening game under a tv contract controlled by the conference and ESPN - not the NCAA. Also officiated by referees that work for the conference.

After giving up before the Orange Bowl even happened, they never fight. They bark, but there's no fight in them.
Shouldn't losing your top recruits to UGA when you don't make thr playoff really offset the NIL stuff.
NCAA: "Well FSU tried to cheat by paying for recruits but they just went other places that paid just as well"
FSU: "So what's the big deal? It didn't work."
NCAA: "We can't have teams attempting to cheat."
FSU: "Um what about Michigan?"
NCAA: "What about them?"
FSU: "They were cheating."
NCAA: "Eh, they just eroded the entire integrity of the game. You know small fish stuff. But you, you let players make money which is rule number one in the NCAA, labor should be free!"
FSU: "Were gonna fight this! We recieved no actual benefit from trying to cheat."
NCAA: "No you're not, because if you go to court and screw up NIL for everyone else then no other conference will take you."
So..would like to know what the specific violations are alleged to be.
So far the NCAA has done basically nothing at all whatsoever to try to standardize NIL so its bizarre and bordering on arbitrary for them to try to levy any punishment.
My bet: this goes absolutely nowhere once FSU flexes a few lawyers and the NCAA once again slinks back into its corner of ineptitude.
FSU to NCAA:

R.E.P.L.I.C.A.
From what I read, the assistant coach in question gave a potential recruit a ride to a meeting with the NIL collective. The recruit didn't sign with FSU. That's it.
The specific violation was suing the ACC to get out of the GOR.
Meanwhile Michigan is Kermit the Frog sipping on tea...
So they let Michigan slide, but want to make an example out of Florida State.
Wait, maybe they should consider not letting them into the playoffs LAST YEAR as punishment.
Suddenly there are rules about NIL? This comes as a great surprise.
It seems that this all stems from the fact that an FSU coach drove a recruit to a NIL Collective meeting.
Obviously the punishments seem over the top, but how exactly is this type of NIL conversation supposed to happen?
Do members of the collective just follow the Internet to know when the recruits are visiting and stand out in front of the athletic office with bags of money waiting for them to arrive?
Is the issue that the school and collective were working together or that a coach provided transportation?
Well according to the NCAA, NIL are not supposed to have any contact with recruits. Only allowed to have contact once they have enrolled...
LOL.
This is not correct. Collectives cannot say 'if you sign here, you get this.' However, they can meet with the recruit, and say 'players like you have gotten X in the past, and we can assume your contract would be similar'
It's a subtle distinction, but it matters.
Edit: an analogy a friend gave - they can share the salary range of the job post, but they can't give you a job offer that promises a salary.
Good days in Tallahassee, eh?
What the hell has FSU done to offend the CFB Gods? Whatever it is, hopefully they keep it up and the '99 championship is revoked while we're at it.
that damn war chant every.... fucking..... play.....
Makes sense, I'm glad it finally caught up with them. They're screwed, a Native American curse ain't nothing to fuck with.
They pay the Seminole tribe hand over fist. Not to mention, FSU offered to get rid of the Flaming Spear thing, and the tribe said "nah, keep doing it"
Yeah, I think this is the one where the tribe is 100% behind them going as the Seminoles. I'm pretty sure Utah pays the Utes a ton of money to use that name as well.
Okay fine, the Tribe can decide what level of appropriation is permissible, but no matter what this deserves punishment from a vengeful God.

Aren't those guys from a stop animation Christmas movie?
Maybe on some kind of adult channel.
My first thought upon seeing this...
This! They were still doing that damn chant down by 60 points to UGA. Just give it a rest, you morons.
As a Braves fan I love the chant. But at least they do it in times of big significance.
It's not during a 2-2 pitch in the 2nd inning with 1 out and no one on base during a 0-0 game.
With the new pitch clock, you could only get through about half the chant before the pitch is thrown.
As Hokie fans we should start jingling our keys on every play.
Oh wait, no one has keys anymore. Need the Hokie Sports app team to add a key jingling sound mode to the app.
Oh wait, the app probably needs internet to function, and there is no internet in Lane stadium.
Damn, I give up.
Make your own noise maker on a carabiner. Mine has old keys to houses, my TKPC bottle opener, M1 Garand en bloc clips, tambourine jingles, and a bison tube. It's obnoxiously loud.
I didn't watch that game, but I'm surprised.
When we soundly beat them in 2018, their war chant was pretty faint during the second half.
Turns out if you're beating them, the chant isn't nearly so offensive.
I remember the chant being pretty loud when we were beating them soundly at Lane in '07....
Edit: Yes, we were mocking them. I was there, it was amazing
Lane is loud.
But I guess we must not be the only team who travels well.

We were mocking them.

You're no fun
I heard somewhere that we were mocking them.
Perhaps they were being mocked.
Only time I've rushed the field ...at home..well at Lane (main); did it at Lane North back in 83....
Not always...I distinctly remember their band continuing to play the damn chant during the trophy ceremony AFTER we had beaten them in the 2010 ACC Championship game. I hate that chant.
Saw a 60 something year old FSU fan take a swing at a 20 something Tech fan during that game for doing the chant mockingly. Good times.
Ain't nothing quite like someone getting upset that people are mocking them over the appropriated and borderline racist chants they do all game long.
Footballing while not $EC.
The penalties are unprecedented because they haven't levied any NIL penalties previously.
B. Who didn't see something happening with NIL anyway.
3. $5,000 fine???? Come on, that's the Gatorade budget for the Athletic Department for one week. Peanuts.
i. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
GO ahead and openly cheat in NIL folks... one of your assistant coaches will be suspended for Samford, FAMU, and Jax State games to start the year. Such a deterrent
Don't forget they lost 5 scholarships for 2 years which they can easily cover with NIL money.
So what did they learn?
They need more NIL money.
