Any other Lego enthusiasts here?

I'm thinking of starting another quarterly thread about... Legos. Show off your collections, builds, or MOCs as you please. I'm really big on video game Lego sets, and space related sets... Especially the official NASA ones. Any how... I'm gonna post some pics, obviously, so show us what you got!

Virginia is about to be a Lego hub too with the new factory coming to Richmond.

Have you tried the virtual build instructions on your phone? Fun fact, we now take the same approach for the work instructions used to build aircraft carriers and submarines for our country.

And they just built a Lego store in Virginia Beach!

I used to live near where the old one was as a kid before it shut down. I can't wait to bring my kids over there when it's finished now that I live near it again.

You can go by the site now and they have a giant trailer that looks like a Lego brick that shows all of the factory details and includes an area for kids to play already.

AFOL (adult fan of Lego) here! However, I still can't figure out how to post pictures and gifs on here through my smartphone lol.

Imgur Uploader app is probably the easiest way I have found. Allows you to select pictures and once loaded you just click Copy Url. Then click the first box far left above the comment box. Popup will let you paste the URL. Preview and submit.

I just put up my Lego train set. I have this guy plus a logger car and a caboose. If anyone knows a good place to get reasonably priced 9v track let me know.

I have a pretty good collection of Star wars stuff that came out around the same time as Ep 1-3. Land Speeder, Jango's Slave I, one of the pod racer kits, Obi Wans Starfighter, a droid fighter, and a few more.

Shoot me an email at mdmasc91 [at] vt [dot] edu. I can help you out with some track.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Other than playing with my nephew I don't really build any lego anymore, but I have enjoyed watching Lego Masters.

Been a bit since a built a set, but I've got a bunch of Star Wars sets. Got the UCS Millenium Falcon. Fucker took three months to build

My wife and I have enjoyed all the LEGO Playstation games......

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

When i was finishing up my PhD i applied to go work at the technical center in Denmark because they were investing a LOT of money on trying a find a more sustainable material than ABS plastic. Super intriguing technical challenge because the durability and the tolerance is incredibly important to the product

I seem to fade in and out but I am not a LEGO purist as I have found several companies that sell similar quality sets at much lower prices. I do build a Halloween layout each year. Depending on the year I also build Winter Village around Christmas.

I think this year should bring some fun Space sets as LEGO is focused on their City Space line this year.

My kid is into the Monkie Kid line so we have several of those sets floating around.

I have considered trying to build a scale version of Cassell but determined I need to get into the Library to view the spec sheets on Cassells dimensions before really starting that. Something slightly smaller than this.

What other companies would you recommend? I've only ever had the impression/experience that all non-lego bricks were pretty much garbage

Avoid Loz. Most of their products are not compatible as they make bricks about half size of regular bricks.

Sluban makes some great sets but their minifigures are not as good as LEGO but the bricks are definitely LEGO compatible.

If you are looking to do mosaic type art sets (Dots, etc) shop 5659038 on aliexpress has a great $5 deal on 1000 dots. I am working on a VT mosaic and using those.

XMork makes really great sets at about a third the price of similar LEGO sets. I got a really fun log cabin set that is compatible and equal quality.

Mould King makes great sets. Pricing can vary significantly but they seem to work with designers that list MOCs on sites like Bricklink and Rebrickable to bring designs that were one offs into saleable sets.

There are others but would need to look back through my booklets for some of the company names.

Yeah, I had started on the plans to build a replica of Lane. Then realized I did not have the space and aimed at the front. I had that about 50%+ worked out but personal circumstances changed and I stopped as there were difficulties and in order to work it out, I was going to have to increase in scale.
I got a little too perfectionist and in the weeds and just called a halt.

edit: Speelink

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I've been thinking about getting this one, but haven't pulled the trigger.

I have this one!

I still have the huge star destroyer i got around 2004-05 somewhere in a bag around here. Really wish I had space to rebuild and display it.

Wife's a big fan, which makes gift giving a little easier, plus building's a nice old married folks activity. Just finished dismantling the Disney castle to make some room for the new lighthouse. This, however is the current crown jewel. It may never get disassembled.

BTW, if you're ever in Amsterdam, check out their Lego store. Amazing selection of big builds, plus some really cool stuff on the walls
.

Ive been getting back into them recently. Got Optimus Prime for my birthday last year, the Saturn V I bought myself midyear, and got the NES + TV set for Hanukkah/Christmas this year

I have a football signed by Cary Conklin, Super Bowl winning QB (he was the backup on the 91 Skins) that says "To Chris, the Lego King!"

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

I'll have to post some.
I did the Saturn V, but dismantled it for space (I don't have much of a display space available)
I have the shuttle + hubble built. The ISS, Apollo lander, and perseverance (technix) remain in box and unbuilt so far. I have all of my legos from childhood.

If you haven't seen the traveling exhibition The Art of the Brick, I HIGHLY recommend it. Everything from original art, to 3D replicas of famous art piecs, to a dino skeleton. Its quite the spectacle. Its at the franklin institute (Philly) until September 2nd.

Here are a few examples from this show. The Franklin Institute offers a pretty full day between this show and it's other exhibits.

I can't imagine the time it would take ... Incredible

You disabled the Saturn V for Space?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

take your leg and go

Adult lego addict here as well. My go to is Technic, but the Icon line is also great. I'm at work staring at my LR13000 build which is a whole lot of fun to show off, especially since I'm in construction and can stare out my window and see 3 x LR1300s. I've got a couple of the Star Wars kits at home and trying to decide whether or not I pull the trigger on a big order.
