The Ladies travel to FSU to take on the #21 Seminoles at 1PM on ESPN. FSU defeated #11 Tennessee and #20 UNC at home. Their 4 losses are to #2UCLA, #8 Stanford, #15 Louisville, and Arkansas.
FSU starts a sophomore, 2 juniors, a fifth year senior and a grad student. The tallest starter is 6' 2"; the rest of the starters are under 6'.
Of the nine players who play regularly, 7 are listed as guards; so most of the game will see 4 guards on the floor with 1 forward. Four players score in double digits and Timpson averages 13.2 ppg and 9.7 rebounds. Timpson has made as many 3's as Kitley; but she has twice as many 3 point shots.

I'm not sure what else to say. Winning on the road in the ACC is tough and FSU is a good team. We will have to play well to win this game. I don't think they can stop Kitley and Amoore from scoring; but we are going to have to work very hard to slow their offense enough that we can stay ahead of them. King, Ekh and others are going to have to contribute. Good defense may be the key to winning this game.

Sorry guys. This is on me. Well, the refs and me.
The #21 Seminoles are a dangerous team, but has been involved in a number of dragout battles over the last few games, pulling away from a three point lead against UNC in the last ninety seconds; pulling away from a three point lead against Clemson, late; and taking NC State to overtime; and pulling away from a 6 point lead against Wake Forest with 3 minutes to go. This tells me they are durable, but how much gas do they have left. F$U is led by last year's ACC FOY in Ta'Niya Latson, who is scoring as much as Kitley. Three other Noles average double figures, so all defenders will need to be on their game. FSU is one of the only ACC schools to be outscoring the Hokies (by 3.5 ppg). That may not mean much as the Hokies have the best scoring D in the conference, having just trounced #2 by 24, and FSU allowing 12.6 more than the Hurricanes had been. Statistically, the only area (besides scoring) where the Noles are better than the Hokies is in steals and turnover margin. This isn't too much of a surprise as the Hokies are an exhaustive defense, not a disruptive defense. FSU creates 5 more steals per game than the last place Hokies, but the turnover margin only favors them by 1.5. This is another four guard lineup, similar to Miami, but this time, the only real big that Kitley will have to deal with is a third of a foot shorter than her.
I'm glad Florida headed up creating the modern day sports drinks and not Florida State.

FSU has committed their usual number of fouls but took 7 more FT than they normally do.
I have never seen a game more heavily decided the by the refs then this one. It was clear the fix was in pretty early but the deciding call was when they called an offensive foul on Kitley for standing there holding a ball and FSU's darling Bejedi ran full speed into her.
It wouldn't be enough to completely change the game, just by FT disparity, which the Noles would have lost 3 points and the Hokies would have gained 2, but with the potential score being 86-83, I'd rather have Amoore out there with a late one-score game taking the shot as well as King, Ekh, and Baker, at this point.
It would have been Kitley going to the line as they were in the bonus, would also maybe have changed FSU scoring on that trip. Score goes from 84-77 to 82-79.
Kenny should have asked for review because Bejedi got away with two fouls.

I would love to see the conference give her a 1 game suspension for her actions. That should have been a technical on top of the foul. Four foul shots by Kitley down 5. That completely changes the end of that game.

Agreed. You combine this with Wetzel lacking any offensive confidence and we were playing 3 on 5 offensively in the 4th. Ehk got no open looks because fsu didn't respect king or wetzel. Doubled Kitley every chance they could and trapped Georgia off ball screens. The high low with Liz and Strack would have been unstoppable in the 4th and freed up shooters because they would have had to commit 3 defenders to the paint at all times.
My impression is that Wenzel seems more hesitant when Amoore is also on the floor. She appears to defer to Georgia and will pass up a shot to get it to her or just tries to stay out of the way when Georgia has the ball, which sometimes puts Carleigh in poor spots offensively.
She seems more confident when playing the point with Georgia on the bench.
I blame her inexperience, it will get better with coaching. Just like her hesitance to take it to the rim when on her own on a breakaway. Of course after last night, she is practicing those layups or should be.
She straight up said, on a podcast, that when she's on the floor with them, she's on the floor with people who are better, and that she's going to defer to them. Probably a safe mindset early. But, she's getting the experience to play with them, not under them.
Makes sense, it's just that trying to consciously defer at game speed is tying up her feet/mind. Getting real minutes like Brooks gives her will help her with the game speed. She is tenacious on defense!
