I think this was one still up in the air. Bitter just confirmed that Jenkins does plan to use his covid year and return in 2024 not bad for depth at LB.
Just a quick #Hokies roster note on the guys with COVID years left who had not made a public declaration about their intentions. OLB Keonta Jenkins is returning for another year, per VT, while OL Clayton Frady is finished with football.β Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) January 18, 2024

LETS GO!!!!
Hokies
Next year is shaping up to be a big year. I don't know exactly how good we can be (8 wins is starting to feel like a reasonable floor), but the staff definitely wants to make a splash next year.
Definitely seems to be a lot of rumblings that people within/around the program and the media are very excited about VT's potential next season. Setting up for a very exciting off-season and big fall to look forward to this year.
Hopefully there's not a big fall in the Fall.
This is the highest expectations I've had for VT football since the 2019/20 offseason (before 2020 happened)
Hype train activated!
Speaking of returning to football I just saw that Miami's TE Cam McCormick is returning for his 9th season of college football. I wish I could tag DC in this comment.
He was hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis in January 2017. A broken left ankle in the 2018 season opener against Bowling Green required three surgeries, and he tore his right Achilles against Ohio State in 2021. There's no such thing as eligibility anymore, all you have to do is have 5 or 6 surgeries or hospitalizations and you can play college football forever! Everyone is doing it!
You know, I would rather be done with football than have his list of injuries and the associated rehab.
Holy shit! Dude needs to get a clue!
He is getting free school, probably decent NIL and getting to play a game on national TV...or ACCN... I am not mad at him if the system let's him do it.
He'll be the first doctor to get med school paid for by playing football.
Hot take: we shouldn't have limited eligibility, as long as you're taking classes in pursuit of a degree you should be allowed play
I don't agree with this because it's easily abused and quite aspirational, but I really appreciate the hot take. Definitely made me pause and think. I could probably be convinced to agree with you under the right circumstances.
With bourbon
This isn't my original idea, it's from Mark Titus, but I like it theoretically
Hunter Carpenter disagrees and asks you to hold his beer......
That would be defacto unlimited.
There would be scholars figuring out how to keep students eligible by changing majors.
He just said in pursuit of a degree, not once you get a degree you have to quite, you can go to a 2nd degree
Pursuing a law degree? Eligible. In med school? Eligible. Phd candidate? Eligible.
Revise to taking a minimum full load. (12 credits?)
Too bad he's going to be in a wheelchair when he's 40.
His grand kids are blessed to be able to see him play college football.
Am I a bad Hokie for never hearing of Clayton Frady before.
portal add out of Gardner Webb last summer

Ah ok. I guess I completely just forgot about that one.
only made four appearances this past year
Yeah, I guess he did not quite live up to our hopes from that commitment thread.
Jenkins was the Hokies most consistent linebacker last year. Could he play some boundary safety like he did before Pry arrived? It would address some holes with Woodson being ready to take on more at STAR.
Yeah, interested to see if they mess around with him in the spring, especially if Stroman isn't a full go following his surgery last fall. I imagine they try and keep Stro healthy regardless and try and figure out the right fit in the back end. We might have some talent there, but it's young talent, which we saw how that went this season
I'll bet anything that is the plan. If he has NFL dreams it's not at LB and not saying he makes it at safety, but a breakout year would give him a shot.
He can really run, has great instincts and we need safety depth. I bet he is there in the spring.
if a young gun emerges this spring to back up Woodson, it would make more sense to move him.
Huge. Huge. Huge.
Our best "tackler" in space, brings physicality that the defense needs. Crucial for him to stay.
Let's go.
Great news
Will we see him at same position or at safety?
Get your best 11 on the field, we should move him to safety.
If so that could mean Gabe Williams at STAR π
Pretty sure this is Caleb Woodson's spot now
VT with a 5 man front and 6 DBs in an odd formation
Nickel Blitz! God I can't wait for NCAA `24 to come out.
So glad that Jenkins is coming back. He was good as a freshman on the back end. Hope he can show himself favorably to the NFL. Seems to be one that can make it to the show, and he should get some press with stroman and the dbs all being candidates. Would love to see a 2 deep on the defense if he does move back.
This could be a dbu kind of year
