As had been speculated, ESPN has pushed Brent Musburger off ABC primetime. He'll be the lead SEC Network play-by-play w/ Jesse Palmer.— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) March 12, 2014

God IS real.
Wonder if Sean McDonough will be the replacement - his call for Danny Coales catch vs. Nebraska/the rest of that drive is one of the all time great VT calls.
He also was the play by play on the Vick's run vs. WVU in 99.
I wonder if Reece or Chris will get it? Meh, doesn't matter to me anyway.
Brent has said that he looks to this as an opportunity to pursue his
lifelong dream of owning and operating a 5 star burger joint
just like Marky Mark. It will be of course called, " MusBurgers"
GO HOKIES!
you know, I never minded brent as much as everyone else. palmer on the other hand. ..
palmer is pretty much pro HOKIE or at least HOKIE-savy. MusBurger is only aware that 4-5 teams even exist.
Drink every time Palmer refers to his co-commentators as "guys".
You'll have fun.
conversely how happy is Kirk now he knows he wont be called 'Herbie' anymore! ... for reals!
And every time he mentions the QB having a "Run-Pass option"
Same here, I never had a problem with Musberger. I'm actually a little sad to see him go.
I was happy to hear this. I think Musburger is past his prime. Can't wait to see who they match up with Herbie. Rece would probably be my pick. Does Fowler do play-by-play?
past his prime? MV7 might be past his prime.... Musburgers prime happened before color TV!
Can we still play the Brent Musburger drinking game?!

Flip on ESPN Classic and go for it. Sadly, I never acted on this game.
he'll still be on SEC Network if you're feeling frisky...
"Hold on Folks!"
You're looking live at a very guy, see ya Brent!
I'm interested to see who replaces him on ABC. Will the 3:30 ABC crew get promoted?

other than soccer...
This is the best news ever. I would switch to other channels because of him.
Musburger is good when he's on his game. For the UVA game in 04 though, I could've sworn he got into some bourbon before kickoff. Although Gary Danielson was color for that game...maybe his incompetence was contagious.
I was hoping Tim Brando would end up at the SEC network. Always liked his play-by-play calling. Always prepared and worked well with whoever his color man was. Wonder if he will take a position at ABC now.
This is great news.
Great news!! I have been trying to figure out ever since the NC game what the appeal was to Brent. Finally decided that people must like the quality of his voice because it sure as hell wasn't his play calling. The thing that has bugged me for years is that Brent gets bored so easily and then starts making small talk if he thinks that a game has been put away. He's ok for a quarter or two, but awful as the game goes on. In the NC game, he made pity sounds that Tech was done. Then, MV put us ahead in Q3 and shut Brent up for a while. It's not just Tech games--I can't tell you how many games I have heard him call where I feel like he is disrespecting fans who are having their hearts crushed as Brent yucks it up with Herbie. My conclusion is that this is just a job for Brent 'cause he sure isn't passionate about college football. Think about it--he's never on weekday shows because he has nothing to add or say. SOOOO happy to see him go!!!
Agreed on just about everything. As much as I don't like the guy anymore, I do have to admit that he has a place at the table when you talk about the all time great announcers, the guys that were, at least for a time, a primary voice of college football (at least, in the booth).
However, I do think he is about even the whole game. That only happens, however, when it's Ohio State or USCw on the field. I also think he is passionate about the game, but his passion is outdated. One of those years where Boise was really really good, I can recall him saying something along the lines of, "Boise will never ever deserve to go to the MNC because they don't play an SEC schedule. Doesn't matter how many times everyone else loses". I flipped my lid at that antiquated opinion.
Looks like Fowler got the gig...

I would have thought Herbie was a perfect match for the new network, with his hard on for all things SEC.
I wonder if the correlation between GameDay and Saturday Night Football will match closer to 100% now. When both SNF guys are on GameDay, they might as well keep it in the same town.
I don't think it will. Gameday usually goes to the game of the week. Sometimes, the game of the week is an SEC game. CBS gets first choice for SEC games, so if you have, say, Alabama vs. LSU as the game of the week, Gameday will want to be there but it will be broadcast on CBS.
At least now Herbie has some company on the ESPN plane when it isn't in the same town.
BM is flushed! Bonus is that he will also not be calling the playoff games.
