Guess he wanted to get back into the head coaching ranks. Hard to know what this means for BC, but he's definitely a knowledgeable dude, they could definitely have done worse.

I question the judgement of anyone who would rather be the head coach at BC than a coordinator at Ohio State. BC is not a sleeping giant or any other kind of nonsense.
Yeah, it seemed weird. Must be the best chance he's got to get back to the big chair. Give it a few years, win 8 games, jump to a bigger fish? Or maybe he just wants to get back to Boston. Given his career earnings though, there are chiller ways to make that happen.
Absolutely right. He was willing to take on the pressure and expectations of being the offensive coordinator at OSU, but decides to bounce to Boston College instead? I get wanting to be the head man or whatever, but how many coaches have successfully parlayed the HC gig at BC into a better job?
Jeff Hafley, for one.
He may just want to go back home. Says that he was from MA. Is a possibility it is driven more by location than the actual job. Just a guess though. I have no idea.
Oh sheesh. And if I had just read further in the article, it makes more sense:

I am not sure if he is Catholic, but BC is a Jesuit school so I would think that might play a part as well if he is.
Look at his career history:
He wants to be an HC again - he tried to get the VT and GT jobs, and couldn't - he clearly needs a lower level HC job before he can get back to big(ger) leagues.
I think it's a great hire for BC especially considering the timing of Hafley leaving.
I remember Bill O'Brien being a name talking heads mentioned for the VT/every P5 job back when VT hired Pry.
