The rebirth of college football video games will have to wait another year to summer 2024.
Hopefully EA can deliver more than just a Madden reskin.

Having seen what Madden, FIFA, and NHL have become, I want to be excited over this game, but I know deep down that EA is going to massively screw it up and just keep doubling down on their mistakes year after year. Whatever they don't get right the first time around will never be fixed due to corporate policy (they stop developing on current releases the moment it goes out unless its to fix a game breaking bug and they only look to add marginal improvements every year, and not fix past issues), so I'm glad they're taking an extra year to release.
i'm sure they'll find a way to drop a secondary revenue stream from this game, and that's probably why they are delaying... I would bet they are trying to do something now in/around the NIL to monetize the game.
The crap part is that it doesnt need to be this way. Base game, recruiting, roster management, and online play is all you need. A few things I would like to see is a configurable post-season (e.g., at the start of the new season the player can [re]configure the format and # of teams invite), and the ability to hire and fire members of the staff. That last one may bleed a bit into program revenue management which isn't something I would be interested in tackling since that also would need to include things like fund raising and thats just so far away from the core game that it would be an annoying distractor.
Most likely, it'll have a very rudimentary single player campaign. You'll have a Program Builder mode where you can control a school, but it will not be nearly as in depth as you want. Where EA is going to make all their money, and likely the reason they are delaying, is that they are going to make this a Game As A Service to the extent where they'll give you incentives to buy as many recruits or coaches as you can for your program with actual real money. And then the bulk of the game will be implementing some kind of online team/program builder in the same vein as MUT, FUT or CHEL, and monopolize the absolute shit out of it. And every future game will have more and more development going there, completely neglecting the single player offline experience.
Wouldn't even be shocked if they set up some kind of online recruiting system where you invest the game's currency to attract good players, with incentive to top off your account with real money to lock those players in, all of which becoming a bidding war in online leagues.
Per ESPN a lot of the delays are around NIL, although the article did quote EA is saying any prediction for a '23 release was pure conjecture.
I honestly think its going to take something like the NFLPA for college football to be created and manage a sport-wide licensing deal like this. Doing one-offs with every player or program would be a massive PITA and absolutely not worth the effort to get this done.
I don't get it. If they just re-released NCAA 14 with updated rosters/conferences they'd make a shit ton of cash. Could be a totally halfassed low cost effort, no new features or anything. Just updated rosters and barely passable updated graphics for this current gen. Can't be that hard. But my guess is they're stocking it with all the bullshit Madden has nowadays with gimmicks and micro transactions.
I'm hoping the delay means they're not just half-assing, and having it be Madden with college teams. They'll probably end up focusing on all that ultimate team stuff, though.
I think I remember reading somewhere that EA now forces all of its developers to use the same engine for everything. The engine that Madden runs on is really specialized for first person shooters, which is part of the reason it has weird quirks. Stands to [their backwards] reasoning that they have develop it from scratch using the new engine.
This is as good as places as any, I am having the best 4 years in NCAA 14. I have two senior QBs and two Senior RBs.
My back up RB won the Heisman as a sophomore. He will finish with ~6000 rushing, ~3000 recieving, double digit kickoff/PR TDs and at least 1 pick 6.
My back up QB will finish with ~7000 passing yards and ~5000 rushing with 130 total TDs.
My starting QB has a rocket arm and I have had tons of 6'3"+ 220lbs 97+spd recievers that he just out throws the defense. He will have close to 18000 total yards, with 220 TDs
I have enjoyed this team so much over the past 4 years I would have loved to play my backups as starters, but having the ability to change out the QB after a scramble to keep everyone full energy really makes a difference.
Good thing I started a new Skyrim run this weekend.
December 14th the next gen update drops for the witcher 3 on all platforms as well.
Sweet! Maybe I'll finally finish it. I've only put 180 hours into it and still haven't finished the main story, much less the DLC.
The DLCs are fantastic and definitely worth the time. Hearts of Stone has one of the better villains in the series and Blood and Wine is like getting to play through Grimm's Tales.
I'll be running through it all again DLC and all for a fourth time once this comes out finally on PC as well. Its my all time top RPG fantasy game by a good margin. The DLC is a whole extra games worth of content and so much fun and a great way to wrap the Geralt story line unless you try to sleep with all the different witches.
I had NCAA Gamebreaker 2000 (989 studios' competitor to Gameday) and while I don't think Mike Vick was fast enough, it didn't matter because I got 20 sacks a game and blocked almost every punt just rushing Corey Moore off the edge.
Why EA cant just take 2014 and figure out how to port it to current Gen consoles and let us play that I dont get. Even charge like 30$ a copy and they would profit big time.
No kidding. How can EA not look at the demand for a product like NCAA Revamped and then not have a single VP suggest that updated rosters and a quick port/re-skin would not make a killing in 2023? Like you said, offer it for $20-30 bucks as an interim release before the new 24 version comes out; EA would have to push the stacks of cash out of the way in the office.
Finally found my NCAA Football 2014 yesterday! After a hurricane several years ago, and a couple of moves, I thought I'd lost it for good. Booted up the XBox360 and raring to go!
If you're looking for a slightly more realistic experience then I'd recommend downloading the NCAA Dynasty Tool onto your PC. It makes it really easy to do a 4 or 8 team playoff, it makes the NFL Draft declarations more accurate (no more 99 OVR jr QBs winning the Heisman and staying because they're 6'0"), and the off-season training is much more volatile. Some players can go up +12 and some even regress.
There's also a recruiting mod that's more realistic. You'll get 5ish players a class that are 85+ kinda like in real life.
What, so we can get big-dogged in our video games as well? *sigh*
Haha yep. I get tired of becoming the big dog inside of 3 seasons so yea exactly.
I need to look up how to download this for the PS3. Thought the college football revamped mod was a bit too big to tackle, but adding this to the base game night be more feasible
It seems easier all around for PS3 - Revamped and the dynasty Tool. Xbox is tricky because you have to jailbreak it to make revamped work. But just using the dynasty Tool and the recruiting mod have breathed new life into the game for me. It's a lot more of a challenge to build a low level team up.
I'm the OC at western Kentucky and the recruiting mod has made it a lot harder to get talent. Not only are classes more realistic in terms of talent, but the recruit interests are adjusted so a 5* QB won't choose Akron because he gets immediate playing time and they're close to home. Pretty much every recruit cares about some combination of program tradition, getting to the NFL, starting, or winning titles.
That means no recruits above a 69 OVR are really interested in G5 teams. And add a couple of house rules like only recruiting pipeline and neighboring states and it's a lot tougher.
Add that to the fact that you can't bank on every player getting at least +3 OVR in the off-season and it's a much more rewarding challenge.
Oh and I think this is the tool:
https://github.com/Bowersrd/NCAA14DynastyToolRelease
Sorry to resurrect the thread, but, here, are some details about the Hokies' contribution to the new game.
Interesting that the school only sent photos of the maroon and white uniforms but not the orange uniforms
I always like to play a game or two with AOE. It's easier to see multiple receivers.
I always play madden with color rush type jerseys for same reason... all solid color is way easier to distinguish teams
That's why I prefer teams with green jerseys so it gives me more of a challenge
And the official announcement:
The irony of filling up the Rose Bowl... I guess it does fill up when UCLA isn't playing in it.
I'm cautiously optimistic but also 100% aware of all the legal stuff happening around the support, specifically around NIL, and this whole thing could get nuked in a heartbeat. I'm hopeful, but ready to have my heart ripped out... just like every season of VT football.
It's the same policy as I've had since 2014: No Preorders.
I haven't preordered a game since they started releasing unfinished games.
How would NIL work here? Is there an equivalent of the NFLPA for college where they could make a deal and then they distribute out to all the players?
Otherwise I feel that licensing every single player would be a major hassle... Then again, I would think the players would want to be in the game so they may just accept any offer to be included?
Here is what will happen. The game will come out and Jay Bilas and the Twitter mob will immediately cry foul that players aren't being cut checks directly for the "billions" that the game sells for/money it generates. And then it all goes to shit again. Remember, college players are entitled to billions of dollars.
well looks like i've gotta buy a console again.
I told my wife a couple months ago that as soon as this game is up for pre-release I'm getting a PS5 or PC. Sorry bout it.
I need it to come out on Oculus or whatever Apple's VR deal is.
Same. I have a PS3 with a blown HDMI output. Gonna have to buy something.
I have finally played all of the 8-10 year old games remade for the switch I missed out on in grad school. It's time for an upgrade, I'm just using CFB '25 as an excuse.
No game footage and it's releasing this summer? Good luck with it being actually complete or is it just a reskinned Madden?
So does this mean we aren't getting new unis next year
I'm not sure it means anything either way. They probably had to submit their uniform pictures/specs for the game sometime last year, and I'm don't know that new uniform designs would have been available/finalized yet.
I guess he wanted the check to be bigger
Is he going to see the field?
Only when he subs himself in as the starter in the video game
Won't be able to. EA is not going to allow you to create someone with his name or likeness in this game
Yes but what about Archer Danning
Archery Manningcast
One inch taller, 5 pounds lighter, maybe a goatee...
Jon Dowd.
Anybody here get that reference?
In all of the EA Sports MVP Baseball games, Barry Bonds was substituted by a player named Jon Dowd, because Bonds chose not to be included in the the MLBPA licensing agreement.
Just has to look thru the guys between the bench and the sideline, and he'll get glimpses here and there.
Understandable. This lack of focus did really hold back his uncles' careers.
From what I read, there was an option to be a Brand Ambassador and he turned that down too.
If Dynasty mode is deep enough and the gameplay is decent, they could not have any players and I wouldn't really care.
The replayability of the old games was the depth of dynasty. Yes it was great getting the downloadable roster with names and the players being generic avatars of the players it was never the focal point of the game.
That behind the back to Beran for the three was nastyyyyyyyyyyy!
So good EA added it to the game...
Oops....wrong thread
There will be a portal in the game, but even EA knows that if they made it realistic, the game would suck.
Says all you need to know about the current state of college sports
Realism mode where any of your high performing prospects just transfer to blue bloods.
Unless you want to dedicate resources and win a bidding war to keep them.
Actually would be interesting to see "resources" incorporated. Does your schedule bring in TV dollars, etc? Do you have to manage an NIL collective with fundraising scenarios? Most wouldn't like it but I think that could be fun.
I am waiting for Liberty to decide to outspend the SEC one year and buy a championship team.
EA should incorporate a collab with grand theft auto to help poor schools get more money to buy players through robbing banks and setting up illegal revenue generating streams
I thought it was already in there...

Crazy thing is that kind of actually happened at Dallas Carter High School. There is a 30 for 30 on it but I have not seen it recently played.
Edit: Last link you would need a DMN account to read the whole article.
Here is a better article
Official release date of July 19th for PS5 and Xbox whatever or July 16th with a deluxe edition preorder.
And more information, including gameplay trailers, to be released tomorrow (Friday 5/17)!!
So is it for sure not coming to PC at all? I was sorta hoping to use this as my excuse to get a PC or a steam deck.
nope. PS5 and Xbox only
Biggest reason I got a PS2 back in 07 is I finally convinced my mom that I wanted to play NCAA (No PC) over Madden/Madden was about to stop releasing on PC.
Damnit, I'll have zero time to pay for atleast 2 weeks
All aboard the Hype Train
EA to all other microtransaction games: Oh, you're a villain alright, just not a super one!
others: Yeah, what's the difference?
EA: PRESENTATION
BC, wake, pitt x2, duke, and Syracuse got a feature but not us..
I was a little miffed at that too, but hoping it has something to do with the new uniforms.
New cover looks sick!
Someone definitely could make some money on custom sleeves.
Lol and they don't even preview Sandman for this teaser vid. Except we get Wyoming though. Hopefully something good up the sleeve.
Also, what a perfect theme for this era of college football from GNR Welcome to the Jungle - "If you've got the money honey, we've got your disease."
You guys new around here? VT marketing and licensing is living in circa 1960 and have been for 30 years. Look up our fanatics page and then compare to literally any other P5 school. Apparently it is too difficult to deal with VT licensing, companies don't even bother. We have 20% the Nike stuff UNC or Michigan or ummm WVU has. We never get the Pegasus shoes in VT colors released to the public, etc, etc, etc. They probably tried to get Sandman and were told its a 30 day fax procurement process, etc. Disgrace.
I agree VT admin is unusually slow with this type of stuff. But at least UVA doesn't have these problems to deal with LOL.
Also - besides being badass, if Jungle is the theme of this new game it couldn't be more perfect. GNR was the first band that talked about the bad side of the glamour, money, and excess of the 80s. Jungle, It's So Easy, Nightrain, Paradise City. So fitting.
Man I should've been a music analyst - yeah there were songs before GNR that spoke about the crazy excess of the 80's. But with Motley Crue and others they feel complicit in the behavior with their lyrics and tone. With GNR, yeah those dudes partied way too hard and symptom of their environment, but you started to feel a little Cartesian Ergo Cogito Sum - a little self-awareness in the lyrics. That what they were doing is bad, but they know its bad. And they are warning you about how bad it's gonna get. The little bridge in It's So Easy where the guitars go clean and melodic, and Axl sings, "It's so easy, but nothing seems to please me. It all feels alright, when I fade into the night." First time any 80's band admitted, man this lifestyle sucks.
Then you get Cobain who just attacks guys like GNR as horrible people, but he totally missed the forest for the trees anyway. Great music but he went totally honesty and wrote GNR off as douchebags. Funny that Grohl, Novoselic, Slash, Duff, Axl are all really tight personally these days. They attacked the same problems but from a different end.
This has gotten tangential - should move to the music thread.
Most of the songs on Appetite were written before GNR even existed, and the fame came AFTER the album, so it can't really be a critique of that. I'd attribute the cynicism more to their drug habits.
It's So Easy, for example, was written by Duff, who at one point was drinking ten bottles of wine a day. That degree of alcoholism is gonna have an impact on a persons worldview and the songs they write.
The others, primarily Slash and Adler, had heroin problems, which again, depressant that's gonna skew your worldview.
Contrast that with most of the glam bands from the mid 80s who were on coke and other uppers, and I think it explains a lot of the difference in lyrics as they pertain to the lifestyle.
It's also not like GNR pioneered the concept. The Stones changed their tone toward the lifestyle starting on Sticky Fingers after Brian Jones died. Aerosmith's Rats in the Cellar also comes to mind. And let's be frank, GNR was HIGHLY derivative of those two bands.
Agree fully on the derivative nature of their work. Regardless of their intentions, GNR seemed to be the beginning of the end of the 80s glam era. And honestly Axl was right - if they had tried to redo Appetite in the early 90s, probably no one would've cared or listened. There was a massive shift by the time Use Your Illusion rolled around. I think they avoided irrelevancy by going that route, whether the other members liked it or not.
And don't get me wrong - I freaking love Nirvana. Kurt was amazing in every right, but I do feel his ad hominems were unfounded. He attacked Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam a bit back in the day. And even Alice in Chains. You can dislike someones music but not have to have an agenda against them - that was my rub against Cobain. He even said he hated Led Zep because of their lyrics.
But I think a lot of Slash's work with the Snakepit in the 90s is criminally underrated. And I can see Fall to Pieces with Velvet Revolver being a GNR track if they wanted it to be. Slash's guitar work to me is the perfect balance between technique and really good tone. I don't want to hear constant sweep arpeggios, and I love bends and the wild Marshall upper mid honk of his tone. Hearing him and Myles Kennedy/Conspirators play together is amazing - Slash now being clean and playing with some awesome guys doing original stuff is amazing. For all you fellow guitar nuts, note this whole concert Slash has no pedals and is controlling his tone via rocking the volume knob on his Les Paul. Old school and love it.
Both Nirvana and GNR were a result of perfect timing, not great song writing, not great vocals- at all. GNR broke in LA clubs at a time where sex and cocaine were rampant and people were tired of listening to the Eagles and America in Southern Cal. David Geffen was told "you have to go see this band"- and its AXL and Tracey Guns playing the Whiskey at 2 am doing raw GNR songs. Slash was more into the blues scene at this point and Izzy Stradlin was dealing coke. They were at the right place at the right time- 100%. Nirvana even more so. Kids were going to shoot themselves if they had to listen to one more power ballad from Great White and Poison. Along comes these distorted guitars, fast tempo, 3 minute raw songs, screaming vocals, yet not every cymbal was hit on the down beat and the dudes weren't dressing in drag. Nirvana was arguably the least talented band of the Seattle grunge scene musically- amazing musicians in Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Novecelich is a bass player you can find in any club in America. Meh. Grohl is NOW a monster on drums- but wasn't then - he was playing basic beats that were mostly written by his predecessor. Right place, right time. Now, haivng said all of that- the fact that you can hear Rocket Queen on the radio now, and it withstands the test of time- well that's proof that was a great record. Same with any number of songs off Nevermind. Give credit to the producers as well- they knew what was needed to get heroine addicts to produce radio songs. Only the top producers in the world could do that. Now Axl rose is an all time shit human being. If it came out in today's new cycle that he literally pimped his girlfriends out for heroine and beat them to hell, imagine how "cancelled" he would be? lol Butker opines that raising a family is good and people want him out of the NFL. Imagine the Axl rose escapades being reported on? lol. I won't mention how he intentionally screwed Matt Sorum out of millions of dollars and would not lend a hand to Duff when he was about to kill himself with Heroine. He is all all time shit guy- in every sense of the word.
Regarding Grohl, he definitely isn't much for elaborate fills and keeps the beats relatively simple. But man his timing and power on the drums completely changed the course of Nirvana IMO. Listen to the pre-Nevermind cut of In Bloom or Lithium from Sub-Pop with Chad Channing on drums and compare to the album version with Grohl. The added power and tightness of the rhythm is way, way better. Also Grohl singing harmonies with Cobain I think also added another good element to the band.
Honestly without Grohl, it's conceivable Nirvana might not have been picked up by a major label. He added that much to their sound I think.
I am a drummer- I currently gig and have been gigging for 20 years. I have played on some regional bands songs that were picked up by mid labels. I play primarily rock music. So I love Grohl. He is the consumate rock drummer. I have played everlong in bands since it came out and I can't tell you how many times I have been complimented on it. I spent much time perfecting it. I have had many auditions where the comment was "wow our old drummer could never play that" . I also cringe at kids that cheat Teen Spirit trying to cover it. That song has some intricacies. Anyway this is a long winded way of saying I have a ton of respect for Grohl as a drummer- ton. He played more to the guitar vs. bass and you can tell. He is that great cross between Phil Rudd and Stewart Copeland. To my broader point though, Matt Cameron is also a world class drummer, as are Jimmy Chamberlain and Sean Kinney from that scene.
Consumate rock drummer ... that uses disco rhythms throughout his time in Nirvana
Not entirely wrong, but subjective, IMO. Every drum rhythm has been played by someone before you. All of them. Bonham stole beats, Peart stole beats, Porcaro's most famous beat was stolen, etc. Did Grohl play more syncopation than Rudd? sure.
Oh I'm not trying to knock Grohl, but he played a lot of disco while the rest of the band was playing rock. Hence not a consumate ROCK drummer.
Ehhhh, but he got there quickly. Sure his influences were very apparent, but again, he had that power and rhythmic precision that took Nirvana to the next level. He worshiped at the altar of Bonham and it shows. It's literally right there on his arm. Haha.
For the last twenty years I have figured out that Grohl was the real reason for success of Nirvana. He kept going and IMHO has hit higher levels then Nirvana ever did.
Foo Fighters are a much bigger band than Nirvana ever was. I don't know how anyone could argue it? Nirvana was white hot famous for a short amount of time, yes. But Foo's much more successful over a 25 year period. Funny thing is that first foo fighters album Grohl played every part and sang every vocal and told the producer that "this will be the only album I ever do, so lets have fun with it". He had no idea it would be successful.
I mean 76 million records sold to 30 million records sold to start....
In today's world.
How do you buy an album?
Who buys albums? Most music is sold through the single song market.
I haven't bought any music in probably 10 years. If it isn't on spotify or youtube I have not heard it these days.
I think the majority of music today is "purchased"- as in songs/albums by audiophiles- vinyl, lossless, etc. With apple music bundles and spotify, most people simply consume that way now. Most people have a subscription to something else that gets them a music one as well. I'd hate to have to sell "records" to make money today.
I've purchased a few albums relatively recently, but they are all theme albums.
For instance, Sabaton's Great War and War to End All Wars. As a military history nerd and metalhead, the two albums were excellent.
I find myself purchasing more CDs these days because that's the only form of music you can bring into the office, but I'll admit that I'm an edge case.
One of my favorite threads ever on the TSL lounge were the assholes arguing that mp3's were as good audio quality as CDs. One of the gems. lol. Mr. centimeter deep 8 miles wide Bayou, AH04, OX- usual douche suspects. There is no comparison to CD audio quality and shitty mp3's- none.
Wow...that is pretty incredible. Even if you burn a CD with MP3 files, someone with a modest amount of common sense should understand you can fit way more MP3s on a CD because the files are so compressed - and thus, shittier audio quality.
It was a glorious thread... up there with "the ipad and apps" are fads that will soon go away. Bayou pretending to know IT was a theme I really enjoyed trolling over time.
Well now I am questioning my habitual spotify usage for everything
I was an early XM adopter... Sounded great- until they added channels and compressed the fuck out of everything. Now it sounds like ass
Pre-merger XM was the best. The audio quality, the channel lineup, and the music rotation on the stations I liked were all better pre-merger.
agree 100%
We need that pied piper algorithm.
Middle out. Tip to tip
I buy some albums through Amazon. You normally get a CD and a digital copy at the same time. Or at least for the last couple of albums I bought it did.
I've always associated Grohl with Foo Fighters. TIL that he was the drummer for Nirvana when they hit it big.
And interesting timing on this thread. I'm in a lab right now running some launches, and listening to someone's Appetite CD that was left in here. Still a great album.
"TIL that he was the drummer for Nirvana when they hit it big." for real? wow man. At least you know who Rush's drummer is
did you know Michael Jackson was one of The Jackson 5?
He's also the drummer for Tenacious D
And often Queens of the Stone Age too
For fans of Queens of the Stone Age check out Kyuss, particularly the album Welcome to Sky Valley. A number of the guys from Kyuss were later on in Queens.
That album smacks. Used to crank Gardenia, Demon Cleaner, 100 Degrees.
Kyuss also did an awesome cover of Black Sabbath's Into the Void.
And Them Crooked Vultures.
Alice In Chains was legit. That is all.
Why would the official VT Football twitter account tweet that if Enter Sandman wasn't in the game?
It's not in the promo. That doesn't mean it's not in the game.
I assume it is. It would be a bold move for Tech FB's official Twitter account to tweet that without ensuring it was in the game.
How in the hell did Pitt sneak in there twice and we didn't even sniff the field?
Wyoming twice too. Love Laramie but wtf.
So yall gonna jump straight into head whistle at Virginia Tech or you gonna grind up from Akron or Louisiana-Monroe?
VT to start, maybe as coordinator first, bit always VT to start
I'll definitely start at VT. Then, as is tradition, I will create a dynasty at UL Lafayette with Bud as head whistle. Might also bring Jerry Kill back to NM State.
Choose your fighter based on 2023 sp+:
Kent St. it is!
Related: Dropping this for those of you on Insta. It gave me a good chuckle.
Another fun way to pick a team, even if I do feel a little targeted by the write up.
Seeing as I had turned EMU into a powerhouse and had played through about the year 2056 it's only right I continue their dominance
I took EMU to 30 straight national championships (my wife loves emus)
Then I took UAB to another 25 before my disk started failing (my wife loves reptiles)
This was after taking Tech to 50.
Yes to both.
Though hoping VT isn't as much of a rebuild, as NCAA 23 VT would have been if that game had come out.
For the later iterations of the original series, I usually had two dynasties going at a time. One at Tech, one making W&M a juggernaut. Once they patch the FCS schools in, I'll probably do the same
For those playing VT, what offensive/defensive tendencies are you going to rely on to win?
Asking for a friend, one that hasn't played NCAA FB in decades.
Same as real life- force the VT offense into 3rd and long.. stop them- especially in the red zone. Against the VT defense- power inside run off a pinch and pull look- running back goes for 80 yards untouched. Do that and you will beat VT.
I think you meant "for those playing as VT" or at least, that's how I'm going to take the question and respond to it.
Offensively, I'm going to use a combination of inside zone, power, trap, and RPOs to keep the chains moving. I'll take shots over the top when I see cover 1.
Defensively, I'll try to mix up zone and man, probably skewing more zone than man. I'll blitz sometimes, but really I'm just going to try to be disruptive with the D-Line.
Do you select and play a D-Line player to force the disruption, or do you select plays with more line stunting/stemming? Is stemming even something you can do in the game?
Probably similar to how I play Madden.
On offense, shotgun base set with a lot of inside zone, mid-level crossing routes and slants, and when the defense cheats up, go four verticals. Also lots of scrambling by my qb.
On defense, base 4-3 cover 3 zone blitz, with a healthy rotation of dime package cover 2 man with the corners pressing. DTs, MLB, and corners are the most important players for the way I play.
Still curious how they work NIL in there. Gonna be awfully pissed when I lose my starting QB to an SEC school.
I hope they allow you to sell plasma and allocate the money to NIL budget
Also, we all have two kidneys right? Just sayin'...
I did. Not anymore. Wish I coulda gotten some $$ for it, but that wasn't happening 🤪
Funny enough, turns out I only have one, which I found out when I got kidney stones in Feb. Pro tip, if you get kidney stones, only have one kidney, because they take care of it right away. Can't risk the one kidney getting plugged up. Also, extra fun when they tell you this while you're whacked out on fentanyl, I asked the Dr if he was messing with me.
Also, related, I use the NBC Washington app for weather forecasts and an ad for GW hospital keeps playing about kidney transplants. Turns out the featured donor in the commercial is Mansoor Delane's dad. Respect.
I just came to the realization that I might not see my sophomore RB graduate. He was my whole offense after my qb got injured and had 2100+ yards as a frosh and broke single game school record first Gane sophomore year (on 16 carries). He was going to hold all records but maybe not now.
All of the money offered is really a drop in the bucket for the teams listed, but it is interesting seeing CFB stratified this way.
Hey, at least we are still in Tier 2. Better than some of the other ACC members.
I just like seeing Maryland and lil bro in their rightful place.
I regret that I have but one leg to give to your comment.
I hope thay money only goes to Iowa's defense
Seems like Tier 1 could have been bigger, but it's not like that 100k is going to make much difference to any of the Tier 1 or 2 school's budget.
It would put The ACC teams 1.9 million dollars closer to gettingrid of the grant of rights
New info from the Athletic about the game, including that our entrance is in the game, but with a generic song, because licensing Enter Sandman would be too expensive:

Not surprised that they couldn't get sandman.
Would be interesting if you could customize the stadium experience/sounds (entrance, 3rd Down, TD etc). Feel like they could do that for teambuilderand maybe did do that in the past. If they do add that maybe you could pull Sandman from a USB drive.
In the last edition of the game you could indeed do that, and I did put Sandman on a USB and upload it for that reason. I also uploaded Stick It In for 1st downs, as there wasn't a red zone option for custom sounds.
Bummer, but sort of saw that coming.
JFC. Tech's official football twitter account tweeted "Enter Sandman about to go crazy" after the EA Sports tweet two weeks back...
I feel like an absolute idiot for assuming that meant they knew it was in... eating crow for this one.
Can't beat yourself up for that, as it was a reasonable conclusion, even if over-optimistic.
Related but tangential, and because I'm thinking about it...
I wonder if anyone has ever FOIA'd VT's license agreement for Enter Sandman. It would be interesting to see how much they pay for the license, and their right to use/limitations on the agreement, and when the agreement expires (and is renewed). Would it be possible that VT wouldn't be able to use Enter Sandman in the future if they weren't able to get an agreement with Metallica upon expiration? -- The outrage that would ensue.
I was thinking this, but didn't want to speak it into existence. Way to go 🙄
Lars is the multi-millionaire that sued kids using Napster. I'm amazed VT is allowed to play Sandman, honestly. Lars is a greedy you know what
But...but...he's a drummer!
I imagine that VT is paying a sizeable fee to use that song. Metallica would not provide it for free and I doubt they would even feel inclined to significantly discount costs for VT.
VT uses it for pretty much everything sports related, including social media. And I have to imagine that part of the reasoning it is utilized so often is that Babcock wants to derive as much use as possible for the fees paid.
And regarding the Napster incident, I do remember one of my high school classmates getting a cease and desist letter. He was a huge Metallica fan. That was a terrible PR move, but I guess someone had to stick it to those teenage pirates.
Lars has developed a IMO deserved reputation for money-seeking, but I would add this caveat...
He is also an intelligent guy and while going after Napster seemed like an attack on teenagers, I think he also was very early to realize that the future of music sales was digital and not physical.
If the precedent were set that digital music was unregulated and free on the internet, artists were going to get destroyed.
Its like that scene in The Social Network where Timberlake (as Sean Parker) asks Eduardo if he wants to buy a Sam Goody...we all knew these stores were deader in the water than Kodak.
It was a very unpopular thing to do (and I was one of those teenagers with Napster, then Limewire, ect.), but as an adult, I understand it much more and have some level of respect for him for being willing to stick his neck out.
That being said, I'm sure Metallica Inc. is getting a pretty fat check from VT and asked for a very large one from EA as well...
"If the precedent were set that digital music was unregulated and free on the internet, artists were going to get destroyed"...that's the thing. They are getting destroyed-more than ever in fact. Streaming services pay Metallica something like .0000000004 cents a play- no exaggeration. Artists make little/any money in plays royalties today - so we got here anyway whether Lars likes it or not. Why do you think these has been bands are still touring? Because that is the only way to monetize music now. Metallica has always been run like a business- and now you can pay to subscribe to their you tube channel and get every live concert they play- They make much more on that than streaming now. What's even more sad is that I agree with Gene Simmons- the streaming culture/way of music delivery has marked the end of the big, great, "famous" band. Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, etc were all known prior to the streaming age. There won't be a new "huge" famous rock band moving forward due to the way music is consumed- monthly fee, one song at a time. There will be no more Hyteria's, back in blacks, black albums, appetites- where you listen top to bottom- that is over. Great albums made great bands. That's all done. So while I wouldn't want to get totally "ripped off" by napster if I were metallicas drummer- we got there anyway. Lars is making pennies from streams today.
I'm assuming that Metallica was at the mercy of their label when their per song play rates were negotiated, a la VT and the ACC TV deal. That said, they aren't making their money on streaming services now any way - they rake in their money on tour.
Correct, however they own their label... have forever. So they are at the mercy of themselves.
So, what I said was technically accurate :-)
So very true. And even at the small time level, you have to almost get booked at little local bars and breweries a year in advance now if you want to play live. The live music game for those establishments has exploded in the last 10 or so years. And its hard for traditional bands with 3-5 members to make a ton of money doing that (places that small aren't going to pay a ton), so you're seeing more and more solo or duo acoustic acts performing everywhere. As a teen I thought it would be super cool to make a living playing music, but now as an adult I realize how just truly unrealistic that is. I enjoy playing here and there, and if I make a little extra cash, that's cool. But I have no expectations or hopes for it to be a main or significant source of income. If you do, you better be prepared to dicker with clubs/bars/breweries and try to play 5-6 nights a week consistently. If not, just make peace with doing it for fun.
Covid saw the explosion of acoustic acts, and bars realized that chicks drinking seltzers and craft brew actually preferred to hear each other when they were talking and would stay longer. It's absolutely true that acoustic/small is a bigger market now in both places where I book/booked- Baltimore and Phoenix. I highly doubt you will see a new "super" rock group emerge today unless something significantly changes.
Yeah exactly. It's hard to put a five-piece rock band in a small bar or brewery tap room and patrons be able to hear themselves talking. Plus with a solo or two person gig, less ways to split the money and any tips you get. I guess in ways it's cool there's live music everywhere now, but I really enjoy seeing a good band and that's hard to find in small venues anymore. I can only stand so many renditions of wagon wheel.
That's why places like The Milestone in Charlotte have to be kept alive at all costs. So many live music venues have been closed, even before COVID, but the ones that remain are truly special to music lovers.
No exaggeration? maybe slight exaggeration?
Metallica had 1.3 billion plays on Spotify and made $5.2 million from that.
Your math works out to 52 cents....
I got bad info. Saw an article on Insta about them and Motley Crue. Maybe it was another streaming service
hey man it happens. Sometimes I accidentally hit a key toooo many times as well.
DCwilson posts in a nutshell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have never seen his posts in an actual nutshell, that seems like an exaggeration /s
Are his posts in a nutshell, or is he inside the nutshell when he's posting, and in either event, how could you see it?
Gameplay "Deep" Dive. VT shows up on the scoreboard vs Syracuse, and Syracuse runs a reverse later on the video.
Tried to see if VT was in that with possibly new uniforms but very hard to tell if its even VT.

That could have been Stanford...
All white, with a helmet stripe and possibly red or orange trim at the bottom of the sleeve. OR just the tip of the shoulder pads poking out.
EA released a deep dive of features in CFB25.
One feature mentions better AI for CPU coaching decisions/play calling based on coach style. Would have been interesting/traumatizing to see the CornFu logic in action.
CFB25 Deep Dive
I think we all agree it's for the best that we don't have to see that blow up everyone's xbox trying to compute the insanity that was that offense.
lemme take a crack at it
import random
not_winning = false
plays = ["jet sweep" , "qb draw" , "qb option", "pop pass" , "swing pass"]
while not_winning == false :
selected_play = plays[(random.randint[(0,4)]
Can't forget the classic four verts, if the only read isn't there, tuck it and run.
import random

vert_options = [1,2,3,4]
while not_winning == false :
selected_play = plays[(random.randint[(0,4)]

Don't forget the all important player building decision:
If offensive play result = "fumble" Then sit player for next 6 games.
"The Opposite"
George Costanza strategy. Think of what you would normally do, and do the opposite.
I wish I had one of the systems needed, but you all can play against Sam Houston St, force them to 3rd and long and then just load up with 10 in the box to stop that QB run
I feel like I am taking crazy pills with the xbox optipns more expensive now than they were all last year. For a while you could get a series S with extra controller for like $230
Who takes a knee? there are stats to pad!
I can picture a game being "mathematically over" and having it simulate a team that is pinned on its own one yard line kneeling for a safety.
Cool feature though.
Will be interesting to see what it considers as mathematically over. I'm also interested to know what feature, if any, they have for mishandled snaps... Freak things can still happen in victory formation and just eliminating that potential for it to happen seems silly.
I don't think they've had mishandled snaps in any feature of EA football games before but it'd be an added splash of realism
Shame they don't let your road to glory player be a walkon long snapper
This would be an awesome playthrough honestly.
Anyone seeing any sweet VT custom sleeves pop up yet? I actually did the physical version so I'd like to swap the stock sleeve out for something closer to home
EA Released the Top 25 Toughest Stadiums today and Lane Stadium comes in at #17.
Thought these two comments by Athetic writers back to back was funny.
Most Overrated:
Sampson: I realize this video game is coming off an 11-year hiatus, but Lane Stadium? "Enter Sandman" may be an iconic entrance, but it doesn't carry over to the actual game. The Hokies are 2-10 at home against Top 25 teams in the past decade. Once the game starts, Lane Stadium is just another college football venue.
Who would your #1 be. A&M got the #1 spot from EA.
Olson: The two loudest stadium experiences I've ever had were at Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, so I cannot argue in good faith that A&M has no business being in the top spot on this.
Sampson is a Notre Dame fanboi, so makes sense what he said.
Olson was Big 12 and from Texas, so makes sense what he said as well.
Given the teams we've fielded the last 10 years, having 2 wins against the Top 25 is actually pretty impressive.
The 'toughness' of any venue is obviously highly dependent on how good the team is. The true brutal stadiums to play in are where the atmosphere heightens just how tough it is to win in it, where good teams become great. Lane Stadium is absolutely one of the few stadiums where this is the case.
I wouldn't expect a ND fan to know anything about that.
His comment was 100% spot on. When you get toyed with by Duke at night at home, when you lose to Liberty at home, when you lose to dogshit Cuse and 4 win WVU at home, it's just another stadium. Fact. You don't get to claim some mythical home field when Duke is laughing at you, Randy Edsall beats you, 3 win Cuse beats you, Clemson doesn't punt all game, Paul Johnson kicks your teeth in. All in lane. Those are facts. Is the entrance cool, loud, huge energy, great fan support? yep. Does Notre Dame come in and do what they want in an 8 O clock PM ESPN game? yep.
Do you ever stop bitching?
Seriously, you're pouring negativity all over every thread right now in a time where, for the first time in a while it feels like things are finally heading in the right direction. Just stop, please.
The past 10 years- including the Woffords, William and Mary's, Furman's of the world we are 35-27 overall at Lane Stadium. That includes 3 seasons where we went 5-1 at home. So I tell you what. I'll put a positive spin on Lane right now. Yep- impossible place to come in and win. Deal. I agree with you, and I will go on record that Lane is now Lane circa 1998-2001. Deal. Ignore the facts I pointed out above. So when we lose a game at home this coming year we shouldn't...DC wilson is the issue, right? All I do is bitch bitch bitch. Bookmark this.
nah man, DC goes hard in the paint EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. and I'm here for it. I used to hate it but now I embrace it. That's his corner of this little online community and I've accepted that
It's as much for everyone...not singling anyone out.
Yes seriously. DC has a lot of positive posts as well. He is a FAN. We all have positive takes and negatives takes. Some people seem to ignore his positives and focus on negatives.
Just remember, We are ALL Hokies!
I think the most accurate way to address this in the game would be to include the noise and vibration impact of the stadium, and then have the defense fall down and blow coverages like normal
well as long as you know not to call a prevent on 4th and 6, that will minimize some of self-inflicted wounds
I'm with you. Since 2012, Lane Stadium has hosted the greatest entrance in college football and a really mediocre football team. From 1998-2012? Terrordome.
UNC 2021 opening home game as a fantastic exception to that rule in terms of atmosphere
Again, with EA it has always been about which stadiums have the atmosphere to make playing a good team like playing against a great team. Lane Stadium (and Cassell Coliseum, for that fact) has always been one of those venues where the team is capable of punching above its weight class when things are good.
It literally has nothing to do with how good the team is. Yeah, VT has sucked for a decade. We are expected to not suck going forward, and as such you expect Lane to return to being the kind of venue that makes life hell for opponents again.
To add to this. Lane still remains relatively full. Five sellouts last year (with our lone exception being a Thursday night game) is impressive. A lot of other schools don't have butts in seats.
Gotta have bums in seats.
I still get yelled at for not having my butt in the seat when I go to games in other stadiums. Happened at both Notre Dame and UVA last season.
Just don't check the occupancy after half time... it isn't pretty.
HB sighting!
It looks like the suit is made of rubber in this pic.
HB trying to cut weight for the wrestling team.
this is hideous
Cropped it down so we couldn't see the uniforms in the background?
Top 25 offense and defense rankings came out here.
VT checks in at #23 in offense (83 OVR) and #14 on defense (86 OVR). It appears that's Pry did all the hard work for my Virginia Tech rebuild. Now it's just about beating some ass in the ACC and CFP.
I was pleasantly surprised that the offense got recognition and even more surprised the defense had a higher overall
Yea I was stunned by both. Some of these ratings certainly feel like they're based more on hype than reality (see Colorado). I think Virginia Tech is getting some hype benefit. It's that or they love all of our skill players and DL, but we're held back by OL and LBs in the game.
Oh we definitely back
These are the worst ratings I've ever seen, Colorado is going to make a huge jump? If an OSU was playing CU i would take OSU 100/100 timed. Clemson wasn't in the top 50 so sone one is betting on klubnik being better than he has been and for the skills positions to show up. And where is tennessee?
These seem to be based on composite player rating. Idk how Clemson squeaked by, but I think Colorado punched above their weight because of Shedeur and Hunter, VT is likely being carried by Tuten, Drones, and the WRs. Tennessee is elevated by their scheme so doesn't show up here IMO.
Ranked #20 overall - https://www.ign.com/articles/college-football-25-best-overall-rated-teams
How many RBs do you think EA will let you have on roster? Now that I know VT is a top 25 team I might try to obliterate the roster before stringing together back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back title wins.
Justin Fuente, is that you??
Oh I'm on board for this movement
What's liberty? /s
Obligatory "I don't do this often for Alum07, but..."
Dynasty Mode looks amazing. You can use TeamBuilder to replace up to 16 schools in FBS as well.
"Sisters of the poor" about to have a few CFP championships then.
Sewanee making a come back....
EA's Top 100 players
Dorian Strong came in at 66.
Really looking forward to Drones trucking #39 from UVA
Well this is kinda cool.
FYI Vick vs Tebow is at 8pm tonight
What does this even mean? Are they streaming dudes playing against each other in the game?
yes
Oh hell yes. I can't wait. Also, good on the media team for making light of the leak and @ing that guy.
Happy last Saturday without college football.
Happy College Football 25 Week to those who participate!
I didn't get the early access, but I have have my entire Friday blocked off
I
CAN'T
WAIT...
So clearly I'm behind the times and haven't really played video games for 3+ years. But I've just learned I won't be able to play CFB25 on my Xbox One....has the Xbox One become totally obsolete? Did I totally miss that?
Shedding silent tears over here
Not totally obsolete, but Microsoft isn't really supporting it much any more. Don't think they're releasing new games for it. Gotta force you to buy the newest console to finance all their acquisitions the last few years
I'm in similar situation. I haven't bought any video games in a few years and pre-ordered this one without checking which Xbox versions it works with. I wasn't expecting to get a new Xbox this week but now it get to play the game of how long it takes my wife to notice the new console.
I convinced my wife to let me buy a refurbished Series X for $375 since I want to play Baldur's Gate 3 and NCAA25 plus my catalog of hard disk games.
I'll continue my previous policy of purchasing every other year and backfilling any really good even years on the used market. 🤙

Do they have some inside info on brumfield? Also, APR was robbed.
If he's better than our other LBs, based on what I've seen of our LBs, we're much better off than I thought.
My thoughts exactly.
Meanwhile I'm here trying to figure out who Mike Brumfield is....
Tuten is grossly underrated here.
I await to see his other stats, but yes.
About log in and fire this bad boy up on the PS5. I can't wait
It's awesome. I will be spending the foreseeable future on the PS5 winning unlimited Nattys with VT
Did road to glory as a 3* QB. Road the bench first year. Sadly we went 7-5 and won our bowl game to end season 8-5. That's just simming the games as I was 3rd string. Went 3-0, lost 3 in a row (yes that meant losing to ODU), won 2, lost 3 in a row again, won last 2 and bowl. Rollercoaster of a season. Miami beat Clemson for ACC champ but both made playoff. Won QB2 competition in spring. Drones stayed for Senior year otherwise I'd be starting. Can't wait to be the starter. Dynasty opening day was locked out so this was the only thing I could do. Looks great. Highly recommend it.
Started my dynasty yesterday, had to do a workaround to get it to load. So first wow there are ALOT of recruiting Busts when you scout them fully. Beat Vandy 56-16 first game Drones had 5 TD's. But man still getting used to buttons and sticks missing tackles on defense and switching guys at bad times to give up yards.
A score like that against Vandy would make me very happy on LDW.
So mine wasn't as good, Still won, scored 37, 99 yards 2 tds for Tuten, 261 with 2 tds for Drones, 199 qbr. and I blocked and returned an xp. I had a great 40 yard td to Jennings and gosnell had a 60 yard catch and run. Lane had two nice gains after catch.
I also gave up 30, allowed a kick off return for td (first kicked and I messed it up). Need to work as APR didn't have a good game and that's my spot, I play LE in the game.
I dont understand the option, no clue on what it was doing, how to hand off. The play book really favored the RBs for receptions as tuten and Thomas were my top 2 recievers. But I used suggested plays and didn't dive into the play book just yet.
Eight games in and I'm 8-0 number 4 in the country and have Tuten, Drones and APR all on Heisman watch list. Lane leads nation in PR TD's.
you playin' on easy mode?
I'm playing all-american and it feels very close to reality. I've squeaked by vandy and marshall. My defense gets gashed in the middle of the field and one in three offensive passing snaps the OL trips over themselves.
I'm going to do some ultimate and play now to get a better feel for the controls before continuing the season.
Varsity. Run lots of play action, hurry up, go for it on 4th down. Full 15 minute quarter games no sim.
This is the way. I've only punted once so far.
Heisman here.
Heard All-American was similar to All-Madden and Heisman is just ridiculous. What's it like?
Fine. Some plays don't work, I threw the same duck twice and don't know why.
I also messed with sliders so my run blocking is down, opponent coverage is up but opponent int is down, cause if you put coverage up and keep into then they just make insane ints.
Other than that it's fine, tuten is averaging 6.5 ypc. You really struggle in the first and then things open up with the opponent gets tired.
So I have played more and getting more used to the controls, I hate that option is the reverse that it used to be (press a to keep instead of press to give). I am not great at the option so far. Tuten is cooking, Drones is doing well passing but running numbers suck do to the option thing. I've thrown more ints than I should have, but stoll getting used to it. One of the kick blocks is broke cause I have 5 blocks, 1 for a TD and 1 for 2 points. I'm still learning the playbook and seeing what works. It's really tough to go over the top but they keys for it are the same as ncaa2014 so once I get the players that match my abilities I think it will open up. I finally got better at using APR and he's heating up. Mose is killing, leading in tackles amd ints. I still have busts because I'm so used to how ncaa 2014 played and the defense is different.
The Hokie infiltrator at EA apparently made Jaylin Lane have super powers on punt returns.
Everybody, make sure you take a Delay of Game penalty on the first play, in honor of the 11 year delay in the NCAA FB franchise.
On a similar note, I ducked in the Discord server for College Football Revamped (the bunch responsible for modding NCAA 14 throughout the years). Lots of people ending their 11 year span of work on a PS3 game before diving into 25. Their watch has ended.
The Athletic has an article on everything that's changed in college football since the NCAA FB game went away. But they also had this table in it:
74.4% winning percentage when the NCAA FB game was in existence.
54.3% winning percentage without the NCAA FB game.
CONFIRMED! WE'RE GOING BACK TO OUR WINNING WAYS, HOKIES!
I hope this is a persistent bug that EA can't figure out.
I wonder what alumn we have working at EA. There's just too many pro VT things in this game.
Our team rating seems to be inflated. Someone sim'd our season went 8-4 and ended up #13 in the polls. Hokiebird is just at random games. I'm here for whoever our EA insider is.
Bama playing Western Kentucky. Must be November 15th.
Umm why is there no mass sub 2nd string option anymore? I'm blowing teams out and want to get 2nd string kids reps so they don't want to hit the portal and can't without manually doing it in middle of the game. You used to be able to.
That's strange. I'm not getting the game until Friday after work, but maybe they took that out so you don't accidentally break the 4 game threshold on redshirts.
I play full 15 minute quarter games so my stat lines are huge. In the old games I'd have 1st and 2nd string QB's and HB's and I top six Heisman voting.
My delivery has now been delayed to Monday
PS5 preload is done.... midnight can't get here soon enough
Feel like I'm the only one dumb enough to actually want the physical copy. of the game.
Hoping it won't take too long to download once I get it home.
You're not alone. I like to have physical copies of games too.
But it does complicate the process of getting and downloading it + the embarrassment of being a grown adult and asking the 17 year old working at Best Buy/Target/wherever to unlock the video game case so you can get your copy.
Why is that embarrassing? I've got practice now for 40 years doing that.
And yet my forty years of finely honed elder Millennial awkwardness just rams home the embarrassment for all who witness.
Perhaps the difference was that I began my 40 years experience doing this as a lackadaisical adult immediate post boomer.
Tried to buy on xbox tonight but the xbox store is down :( Guess I have to go to bed and save up my energy for after kids in bed tomorrow
Not surprising that Microsoft would build their Xbox platform on their own Azure cloud platform. Should be restored now assuming you also don't have CrowdStrike in the mix.
My BIL works at the DMV, he is sitting on a chair for the rest of his shift waiting for the their computer to start working again.
Pray for healthcare workers today, it's a damn nightmare. Probably not as bad as airline workers to be honest.
I have a buddy in IT for a big company. They only reason they didn't lose everything to Crowdstrike was 1 of their ten virtual servers was still running another companies software. They had forgotten about it when they switched to Crowdstrike. They were able to get a bunch of their stuff running through that one server and at least post messages on the web site about reduced capacity due to the issue instead of being completely down.
Lol that company had the Milton Waddams of servers
We fixed the "glitch."
I'm going to have to dumb this down to pop-warner tutorial mode. The controls are nothing like I remember.
Best advice I've got/been given: Start in Ultimate mode and work your way through the challenges. That helped me a lot with getting used to the controls in short repeatable/retryable bursts.
Thanks, that'll help I think.
I gave it about 20min last night (I was tired), but I haven't played a console FB game in probably 2 decades (original PS lol). Is there a mode where you can just run through plays, without the defense, just to get timing and such? I'd really like to go through the playbook that way, so I have a good feel for how the plays run, before I try them against a defense. When I tried practice mode, it stuck me up against UVA's defense, and while that's not much of a D at all, I was still struggling, just from not having played console FB in a while.
Any other advice for a beginner?
I'd try Practice Mode. You can run plays with or without the defense to get a better feel for timing. When you move to playing against defense you can either select a specific defensive playcall or press the left stick down to have it call a random play. I spent some time doing this to get used to the new passing mechanics
National champions! Beat Utah. But my OC and DC got hired away and fucking LOLUVA offered me their HC position!
how much do your assistant coaches/coordinators impact the game? just recruiting?
Their attributes can help your players and help your in recruiting. Their pipelines can help you also.
I just beat GT and UVA is last in ppg in the nation
Sadly in ny road to glory (as a 5 atar QB) I had to go to USCe to get playing time as a freshman. I plan to uae that PT to improve faster and then transfer into VT to win 3 natties.
I did this exact same path. Got my freshman Heisman and Shane a natty, and Drones came back so I spent another year at SC. In my senior year at VT. Despite being a two time Heisman winner, I wasn't even on the watchlist for the first 7 weeks junior year, and none of my teammates joined me in the portal.
I was spoiled playing with that 99 speed receiver who I could just hot route for an 80 yard TD every time the opponent was in press coverage. Then I got to VT after this year's receivers had left and had to deal slow receivers (like 92 the max speed but most 90 or below) and had to actually run routes and read coverages
Season 2 isn't going well. I asked my kid to help while I made them lunch. Just needed her to scout the players on the list. She used my entire seasons worth of scouting hours in week 3. I have no hours left. No visits, no more scouting, no more recruiting I can do for the entire season!
I think you can remove certain recruiting actions on individual players so that you can re-allocate those recruiting points and hours to someone else. Just scroll to the action you want to get rid of an hold down triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox.
God I hope so.
The points are YOUR time as a coach, you can always redirect your time but there is a limit you can spend overall and a limit per recruit(upper fight hand of recruit profile) You will need to move these to have them visit or perform sells on them.
Oh no! Your 'cruits heads are going to start spinning soon!
Yep this decimated my recruiting class. I have a grand total of 4 signed players.
If you all are struggling kicking you have to hold A once you press it then release one the 2nd power meter that is the kick arrow, I had too lock it up becuase I've been terrible at kciking
Thank you. I have no idea where I missed that, but being unable to punt more than 20 yards or hit a field goal longer than a PAT was getting really old.
This is a pro-gamer move and saved my bacon. Thanks
...and just had my first crash and lost progress. Really sucked too because I had a come from behind win with Tuten scoring the GW TD with 22 seconds left
the game does not feel smooth at all. In my road to glory it feels like the music and menus/etc are really choppy
Outside of the crash I haven't had any performance issues. What is annoying AF is not being able to skip cutscenes (or maybe I just haven't figured out how).
I hold a and it eventually skips... I think constantly skipping everything is why mine is choppy
Been very fun/challenging on Heisman and learning the new option mechanics and RPO plays
Still working on basic passing trees and re-learning how to pump fake. And FFS I don't remember running the ball ever being this hard.
Can't lie. This is my first jump into sports gaming (not usually a fan) but I was intrigued.
I've been in practice mode just trying to get the basics down. I'm a bit overwhelmed.
You're not the only one struggling.
I played NCAA 14 religiously since it came out, but haven't really played any newer football games. It's taking me a while to adjust to how much the game play has changed through the years. Generally it's for the better, but it's still very different.
I found offense the easiest to adjust. To me it feels similar but the proximity to players is different and redirecting runners is a bit more realistic.
Defense has been a struggle has it just feels different to play.
Thought I had advice to give, but just gave up 6 TDs to a true freshman QB. Need to work on my tackling skills/trusting the CPU
In my road to glory my coaches have the worst clock management ever. When I am up in the 4th they only give me hopeless draw plays that lose yards. My only way to pass and keep scoring is to do a no huddle but then the cpu gets hurt every play for free timeouts that force me back to the "use a play change credit but its still 3 draw plays"
Had some time to dig into recruiting yesterday. I think I like it since I've mostly figured it out....mostly. Does anyone know what the difference between a hard sell and a sway is? Like....is there a better time to use one instead of another?
Also...if you "encourage people to transfer" do those players show up in the portal for other teams to recruit?
Sway should be trying to change how much a school's attribute matters to a recruit, and a hard sell is pitching a recruit on that attribute.
What is the hot key for slipping the recruit the bag?
Ohhh that makes sense. Thanks a ton
Oh shit so you sway attributes that aren't important to make them important?
💡
Didn't think of that, but makes so much more sense.
Also, annoyed that if you have a good team you're always fighting against everyone else in recruiting. Seems like other schools have endless hours to pack hours in for top guys and I'm struggling to divvy them up to keep up despite maxing out my recruiting talents (save the parts after signing Top 5 classes) because my coordinators keep resetting every year.
I haven't had much time to get into a dynasty yet, but the move used to be, and I've read still is, is to narrow down your targets to about 15 in the first few weeks of the season, go all in on them, and then circle back to other recruits as you get commits, or determine you can't sign them.
Umm can anyone else on season 3 of dynasty and can't customize the schedule? Get an error message.
I got this today. It was an odd error loop. I couldn't save any changes because of an error, but when I tried to get the game to auto-fix the error it gave me another error. I guess I'm playing FCS East whether I want to or not.....
Yep really annoying they still haven't patched it. So playing ODU, and JMU and Maryland as out of conference games.
Someone help me. I haven't played a football game in forever and I'm apparently HORRIBLE at calling plays on defense. I started my dynasty on Freshman just to get used to it, won three games in a row at about 80-0, bumped up to varsity and have now lost the next two (45-35 and 52-46 in OT) because it seems like the only thing the AI knows how to do is a no huddle and I can't figure out how to stop anything.
I try to match my formation based on their personnel numbers but it doesn't seem like that helps much.
I can't help you get a better defense but I can help you with clock management. You're getting into shoot outs. It seems like you're scoring well which means you need to control the clock to ensure the right possessions. You want to end first half with a score. Long drives help milke the clock. Score in the first, they score in the 2nd and you score right before half means you are up at half. Then you just score left with little time on the clock and win. Trade scores, but keep the clock in mind. 31-28 is still a win. Don't play field position play for first downs and stay on the field on offense. Their defense is tired in the 4th so runs go longer.
Cue the time of possession donut chart
True, all good points. My issue on offense seems to be that I either get a 3 and out or break a 60 yard run/pass for a TD. I honestly haven't really had many plays inside the red zone so far in the games I've played.
I'll definitely keep this in mind though, maybe start aiming for 1st downs like you said until I'm in the red zone rather than thinking focusing on scoring all the time.
Stick, Level Sail, TE in, and a TE drag i can't find the name of that I like to move the ball. Stick has three easy routes to throw you just have to read them and you easily get 8 yards minimum.
Dont forget to use the clock to have more possessions than the computer by holding the ball at the end of halves
This is against AI right? on Varsity level the AI is bad at reading your defensive disguises. Aka, whatever cover you are in, go to the the "show coverage" menu in the preplay and pick whatever is the opposite. (if on Playstation, this is the Triangle button I think,
There is also the "guess play" option in preplay if you press R1. If it's 2nd and 9 or 3rd and a mile, you can "guess pass play" and your defense will react to the pass faster, getting them to their spots quicker.
I'd suggest either taking control of your teams best DE or your furthest back Safety until you are more familiar with reading offensive plays yourself. If the DE, use him to just rush the QB. if the Safety just play the zone and be the last line of defense. The AI at varsity level will 'eventually' make a mistake throwing into your cover 3 cuz you showed cover 2. Or you DL will get a TFL and force the AI into bad passes on 2nd and 3rd down and will punt.
Ok, so Heisman Trophy and Doak Walker Award for Tuten after 2200 rushing yards and 25 TDs through the ACC Championship
Jaylen Jones got the Thorpe Award,
Drones 2nd in the Davey O'Brien Award with 3650 passing yards and 39 TDs 524 yards on the ground and 11 TDs,
Tyler Bowen with the Broyles Award (Marve 2nd),
#1 Total Offense, #1 Rushing Offense, #1 Scoring Offense, #12 Passing TDs, #1 Rushing TDs, #1 1st Downs. #1 in 3rd Down Conversions and %, #1 Red Zone %, #11 Red Zone Defense
As the #1 Hokies sit 13-0 going into the playoffs.
Went 11-1, got my revenge loss against Miami in the ACCG and locked up the #1 playoff seed in the process. APR won the Heisman (you read that correctly) but somehow was left off the all-American team and all-ACC team. Marve and Bowen both left to take other jobs too. Took out my anger on Nebraska in the 2nd round and stomped them 58-21. Utah awaits...
Same thing happened to me with APR. Awards but no team recognition
Tuten got drafted in the 7th Round after winning the Heisman and setting the NCAA record for rushing yards in a season.
Jaylen Jones won the Thorpe Award, but didn't make All-American or All-ACC
Phillips had 3 INTs and a pick 6 against BC and didn't even get defensive player of the game, much less of the week etc.
He is crazy good in the game some how. But yeah I've had a 1 sack, no other stats win ncaa defensive player of the week
I had APR win the heisman as well. 31 sacks and 4 INTs will do that for a DE😂
So instead of choosing Akron I went with Charlotte 49ers who are equally terrible but not in Ohio. Because Ohio. Anyway I'm trying to recruit anyone with a pulse who can make an impact in their first two years and it's so damn hard. I've been targeting 3 stars that has zero other offers and I'm just sending the house. Eventually UNC, NC State, or Duke comes in in the last few weeks and plucks them. It's like they're looking at my board to fill those last few spots on their roster. I guess this is how it is in real life too, but it's no bueno being the scouting team for the rest of the NC schools.
It's funny because in my run as VT coach Charlotte has some how emerged as a football power making the CFP in year 2 and basically staying as a Top 15 team
I mean if a NC team has to emerge as a football power I'd rather it be Charlotte than *gestures wildly at everyone else in this state*
Interesting CFP scenario played out in my season that I hadn't thought of before now that we only have P4 conferences.
Boise State went 12-1 and were pretty much a lock for the 12 seed for the best non-P4 team.
Well, 8-4 BC decided to upset 10-2 Clemson in the ACC Championship. Meanwhile Notre Dame went 11-1
So prior to the conference championship it was going to be #12 Boise @ ND with the winner facing #4 Clemson.
After conference championships Boise moves up to the 4 seed as the 4th best conference champion lol. #12 BC @ ND and the winner vs #4 Boise.
Quite a jump to go from playing @ND to getting a bye to the Sugar Bowl thanks to BC.
So I heard Dynasty was a bit buggy (weird standings, too many upsets) So I decided to play against the AI in play now to get used to the new controls (and the fact I havent played any CFB game since 2011. The year 2011, not the version), and then I jumped into road to the playoffs (because why wouldnt playing against real people after having not played this game for 14 years be a good idea)
My thoughts to offer to the void
The team rankings make no sense, VT is a perfect example. How are we 83 OFF, 86 DEF, but 87 overall...You could argue special teams, but then why isnt that a ranking that's shown? How is Colorado ranked so high when they went 4-8? Why is 7-6 Miami an 89 overall (with an 82 DEF and an 88 OFF)?
The PvP games are quick, you only get 3 minute quarters. I've won/lost games where each side got 3 possessions. Quarter times arent changeable. I won a game tied 14-14 because I got the ball with about a minute left in the THIRD quarter and milked the clock the entire drive to win 17-14.
And because the games are so short they're super volatile. One turnover can be GG. Which can suck when my RB randomly fumbled and it wasn't even a strip or a hit stick hit.
Once you get past the 'chicken fodder' at the bottom of the player ladder, it becomes a tier 1 fest and mechanics cheesing. One cheese is to run a sweep play with a 99 speed receiver/rb. Their overall doesnt matter but the game devs gave him 99 speed, so he outruns everyone to the sideline.
Speaking of that, the abilities in the game are way over tuned in some cases. Using the sweep example, Player X (with the ball) has 97 speed, Player Y (the defender) has 97 speed or higher BUT player X has the 'Breakaway' ability. Player X beats Player Y to the sideline, cuts up field, creates space between him and the defender, then magically they are running at the same speed down the sideline. It makes for a frustrating interaction and a really hard game mechanic to outplay. It appears like the Devs coded the ability for the player to be able to 'breakaway' from ANYONE regardless of the opposing player speed
For SOME REASON the KOS for VT is the backup kicker and his power is 66. I get that we do it in real life, but if the devs made that decision and paid attention they wouldn't have given him power 66 (he had like an 80% touchback rating last season)...oh and you cant change your depth chart prior to a road to the playoffs game, you have to waste one of your two pauses to change it in game
Zone defense is your friend against most players.
Another cheese that is frustrating to deal with is the other team taking their LB and being able to play both the run and the pass...somehow they're at the LOS at the snap, initially read the run, then sprint back to their zone area to still be able to make a play on the ball, don't ask me how.
The AI can be random when your DB wants to make a play on the ball, sometimes they do sometimes they dont. There's a clear gap in defensive skill level between users who can switch to the DB while the ball is in the air and make a play on the ball and those that can't (I fall into the latter category).
The randomness of the game can be a frustration point, it's a reason I dont play NBA 2K either (but I wont go into that game series here). I've lost at least 2 games due to my WR dropping the game winning TD in the endzone when wide open. I unironically yelled at the TV (which to be fair I would do in real life so hey, super realistic AMIRIGHT???)
I think the Menu music has only like 3 songs...that gets annoying if you leave it open while running errands. They have the rights to the school theme songs. So I'm not sure why they dont have those in the menu music.
I get why they dont have Enter Sandman in the game...When I start a pvp game I want to get to the actual game, could you imagine being a neutral bystander playing the game as some random team and you have to sit through the entire intro every single pvp game?
Speaking of Tier 1 Fest, it's a tier 1 fest because of the oline (French would love this section). Basically on Defense you can sit back and let your DL dominate the Tier 2 and below teams so it's impossible for them to run. I played a game vs Bama and their linebacker pancaked my Olineman who had a running start and tackled my RB at the LOS. When that happens it's borderline impossible to win. I was calling run plays with clear numbers advantage in the box, but on several occasions the DT tackled my QB before he could even get the handoff off after whipping my OL. Same on the reverse, you can call a run play whenever you want and unless I'm blitzing or controlling the DL that's specifically covering that hole, the tier 1 team has a guaranteed gain. The only way I was beating Tier 1 teams with Tier 2 teams was if the opponent makes a mistake. This isnt so much a complaint as much as an observation. It's realistic, but at the cost of what we call in the competitive gaming scene "competitive integrity".
There's more that I may reply to this post with. But I'm putting the game down after spamming it for the past week to take a break and play other games I've wasted my money on
Edit: I remembered also that you cant view history...like at all. In Dynasty you cant view past champs/award winners and in PvP you cant view previous games you've played to see stats or anything.
Adding on to this post of "Dynasty is a bit buggy" the coaching carousel seems bugged AF. I had been noticing some wonky things with coordinators for losing teams going to the NFL and Alabama hired ECU's head coach as their head coach after ECU put up a .500 season.
So I decided to sim my Charlotte 49ers franchise forward to see what happened and this went weird. End of year 2 after a winning season got HC offers from Pitt (ew) and Indiana. "Let's decline these offers because after another year the offers should be better right?" Wrong. At the end of the next season after Charlotte went to the playoffs there were zero offers. No HC offers. No Coordinator offers. No downgrade offers. Zilch. There were loads of coaches that were getting fired in the coaching carousel, just none of the Charlotte staff got any offers to go anywhere.
Kinda dissappointing that the coaching carousel is broken AF.
Getting the hang of things but
I beat wvu down 0-84. That was fun. Lol
I beat UVA 84-16. They're only scores came on the opening kickoff, my returner had a fumble that they scoop and scored, Then they didn't score again until it was 70-7, when they picked off Belfort for a pick six. Then at 70-13, they forced four and out inside my own redzone with a 1* Fr QB failing to pick up a yard on an option. They were able to get a FG.
Drones accounted for 7 TDs, Watson had 2, Belfort had 1, Thomas had 1, Coney had 1.
Which difficulty mode are you two on???
Seriously, I'm on All American and I feel lucky to come out with 1 score wins. The CPU offense is so difficult to stop once they decide to just wing the ball around - especially if they go hurry up. I'm switching coverages, changing the shell, adjusting zone depths for the situation, and slanting/stunting my line and nothing seems to reliably work.
I'm playing ground control and mixing in RPOs and PA passes on offense to keep my defense fresh so they have a chance of a stop every fourth possession.
I just won the natty and am moving to All American next season. I have a feeling it is going to be a bit more difficult.
Have you found showing Cover 2 or 3 when you are in opposite coverages helps? Defense is hard af. What player do you control? What button do you use to tackle?
What do you read when you are going to throw the RPO. It looks like it will be open and I will throw into my receivers back or the defense. I find my self finding 3 or 4 plays that always work and never venturing away.
Yea, it seems showing cover 2 when in cover 3 has helped. I don't do it the other way around because it makes your corners susceptible to getting beat deep. They press up and one of your deep safeties has too far to rotate.
I slant my DL to the opposite side of the running back in shotgun (slanting in the direction of any run plays).
I use A (Xbox)/X (PS5) to tackle. It's the conservative tackle option. I was even worse before I knew about that.
For RPOs: I generally go in with an idea of run or pass before the snap. For example, if I there are 2 DBs over my two WRs in the bubble RPO, then I'm reading the slot to determine pass or give to my RB. If there are 3 overtop of the WRs then I'm pretty much reading the end to determine RB or QB run. Occasionally I can get away with doing all of the reads postsnap, but you're at risk of ineligible man downfield. That tends to work if I see the slot CB stay with my WR and I can immediately read the DE to give or keep.
With more reps I've been improving. Just beat Clemson 38-35 in my first season. Picked off Klubnik 3 times and generally controlled the clock and had a few big plays. The OL is ROUGH against a competent DL though. Running without and keep/pass options rarely worked.
Timing of tackles has really messed me up after 10 years of perfectly timed dive tackles. Im getting better but still work to do.
Same! That and I need to practice using the switch stick. If I can ever become competent with that, then I think I can be good on defense.
Explain the switch stick to me I can't figure it out
Don't throw the hit stick in the direction of the ball carrier. Flick it up to hit high and down to hit low. High is the better option 95% of the time. And if you are DL or LB, any direction to try and shed a block.
The switch stick is using the right stick to quickly change from one defensive player to another. They explained it as being able to bait a throw. Like you can play as the CB or a LB and then switch to a safety to cut off the route for a pick. I haven't even tried it yet - too worried I'll accidentally switch to the wrong player and give up even more explosive plays.
So would that be in lieu of being able to use the hit stick?
I mean it makes a little sense, I've tried that with I think FIFA in the past and once you get it, it's easy, but given the controls you already need with the right stick in default, I'm curious on how that would work
You can still use the hit stick. The game understands the context. I'm pretty sure the hit stick is still directional while trying to make a tackle. The switch stick is I think only during passing plays while playing coverage
It's until the ball is thrown. Then it will become a hit stick
Doing first 3 years on Varsity, just to get back into the swing of things...finally figured out recruiting. Gave up on defense after 3 games.
After Tuten led the nation in rushing, won the Heisman, and was a 6th round pick, Drones led the nation in passing and rushing, won the Heisman, and was a 2nd round pick.
Now I've got Belfort at 2nd in the Heisman race, Coney leading the nation in rushing, and XTB leading the nation in receiving for a second time.
Had to play 1 down of Defense after 2 and a half seasons.
Braylon Johnson pick 6 to beat Miami in Miami.
I've given this game the ole College try but it frankly is just a worse version of Madden. Gonna leave it for my kids to play.
Offensively, its relatively fun, but the defensive gameplay is awful.
You can't play Zone at all because any DB you don't control just watches the ball sail right in front of them.
If you play Man and don't get to the QB, you are gonna get beat deep repeatedly, even by bad QBs.
Stopping the run is equally frustrating, watching 3 guys in the Gap as they just kind of mill around while the ball carrier waltzes thru. There doesn't appear to be any effective tackle animation at all for DL coming off of blocks, so if you don't beat the OL cleanly the DL is essentially useless. So you control the LB, fill the hole perfectly and the RB bounces off of you like you aren't there.
At any skill level above Varsity, I cannot keep MAC teams under 30 PPG.
I wouldn't call myself an expert player by any means but I don't have nearly the same issues with Madden.
Playing defense in this game is a massive PITA. Just had my first moment where throwing the controller at my TV had entered my thought process. FSU scored a TD with 2 seconds left as my DB that had him covered just did absolutely nothing to try and breakup the pass. I mean literally nothing except for maybe casually watching the ball lazily drift over his head and into the hands of the reciever. The PAT tied the game and I ended up losing in double OT. Pretty sure I'm firing the DC...
I think my breaking point was this....
3rd and Long. Down 17-7 already against Sam Houston St., call a perfectly-timed DB blitz and their QB rolls hard left, evades the blitzer, throws a perfect strike on the run and across his body to a WR who is somehow completely uncovered in the middle of the field, yet I'm playing Cover 3. By the time any of my DBs wake up, guy has gained 35+ yards.
The BearKats were literally the worst Offense in D-1 last year, yet after this play their QB is 9/11 for 130+ yds. I'm getting shredded like this QB is a combo of Tom Brady and vintage Vince Young.
Again, I'm not an expert player, but I understand basic football, changing coveages, and the pre-play adjustments.
My opinion is this game was made for people who are mostly interested in the nostalgia and it does that relatively well.
As an actual football simulation, its hot garbage.
My opinion is trending in that direction. It can certainly be salvaged, but there is a lot of patching that is necessary. My personal favorite was watching the Colorado Buffaloes mascot show up during a break in play during the ACC championship game.
I think a patch/update came in a couple days ago. It feels like they tweaked some things under the hood. I've noticed that defending teams with worse QBs is a little easier since then. Held Duke to 3, UVA to 24, and Ohio State - with backup Devin Brown - to 21 offensive points (I also had a couple really dumb pick sixes). Louisville torched me for 42, but Tyler Shough was rated an 88.
I've also noticed that if you make the game a track meet, the other team responds in kind. Partially because the defense gets tired I think.
Definitely some weird quirks with the game though, but I can overlook some of those if the gameplay continues like this
Is it just me or is recruiting also bugged? I currently have 5 recruits that have a lock on scheduling visit and the pop up says that the recruit needs to have narrowed it down to their top five before I can schedule. But the recruit has narrowed down to a top five. My school is in the top five. Other schools have scheduled a visit. I cannot. I am confused.
My friends and I have been coming across this issue as well in our online dynasty. Definitely a bug
You're not alone. Sometimes you're able to schedule the visit the next week. Other times you're still locked out and it's infuriating.
Man I just went through a recruiting year where I didn't schedule a single visit and ended up with 9 5*players and the rest 4*. The key is to figure out their top pitch and absolutely hammer it with a hard sell. You can have multiple soft sells per player, so if you only know 2 you can generally hit all possibilities and still get a major boost. And all the pitches are the same so even if you don't know a single hit, if you send the house a couple times you can usually narrow it down to 2 or 3 possibilities once they open up the Top 8
You have to schedule them the week they narrow it down.
This game may have its bugs, but they definitely coded Colandrea correctly. First play was a sack, finished the game with 8 sacks, one sack-fumble, 3 INTs, 2 pick-6s, 12 TFL. It felt pretty true to form.
He's still over-rated
Is it just me or is there a bug in the game with the Lane Stadium sound effects? I thought we submitted the turkey gobble sound bite but when I am playing in Lane it plays some kind of dinosaur roar instead.
I wanna add this to the void/rant too...I have lost so many pvp games (cuz ofc I'm going to play as VT) because my RB fumbles...they gave Tuten a 76 carrying rating. I've had games where he fumbles on back to back drives. Idk how they come up with that carrying rating stat but it's criminal.
Damn, that's a terrible stat. I guess I got lucky with him, but in year 2 of my dynasty Coney just straight up didn't catch a pitch and stared at the ball while the other team scooped and scored.
I'm in year 5 and have had maybe 1-2 fumbles a year. But Intercepts, Belfort is the king, he was going all Eli numbers before I switched to my true frosh QB. I don't know what it is but he can't throw the ball like Drones or Pop could.
I went from winning 32 games in a row and B2B national championships to now I'm barely beating Wake because I can't recruit a lineman or QB.
Is that after this week's patch? They said it only affected the small bugs that cropped up in Dynasty (not gameplay related).
Last two weeks.
