NCAA women's top 16 seeds reveal

NCAAW tournament committee released their top 16 teams tonight. Lady Hokies check in as the #10 overall team, good for a 3-seed.

Other ACC teams: 2-seed NCSU (#6), 4-seed UL (#16)

It would be nice to get up to at least a 2-seed. They could play themselves up to a 1-seed, but that would probably mean no losses the rest of the way and some help.

Ohio State and Iowa still have to play each other in Ames and in the BigTen tournament
We can still knock out NC State in the ACC tournament
Stanford, Colorado, UCLA, and USC all have to play each other at some point.

Assuming us and the higher ranked teams all win, the 4 will be:
South Carolina
Stanford
Ohio State
Texas

VT would be #5.

UCLA and USC play Oregon State this week. So one or two of them will lose this week.

Colorado and USC play on the 23rd.
Colorado and UCLA play on the 26th.
Stanford and Oregon St play on the 29th
Ohio State and Iowa play on March 3rd

That's it for top 12 matchups until the conference tournaments. Pac 12 did a great job at having their top teams avoid each other for the most part. Best case Oregon St beats all three and we continue to rise with them.

We could beat NC State 6 times head to head and be ranked behind them I guess

The obvious problem is that you're discounting all those quality losses.

TBF, NCST had some impressive OOC wins against Colorado and UCONN. VT didn't win either of their marquee OOC games. But yea, we'll see what happens if VT beats them head-to-head a 3rd time.

It would be nice to see us ranked higher than a team we beat twice...

Curious what everyone thinks we need to do the rest of the way to stay on the 3 line or move up? 3 of the last 4 on the road will not be easy. I'm thinking at worst go 1-1 at Louisville and at Notre Dame. Beat UNC at home and beat UVA at Cassell North (won't be a cakewalk), and I think we end up with the #1 seed in the ACC tournament. Win the ACC tournament and they might could sneak onto the 1 line. But a couple of wins in the tournament with that finish to the regular season I would think would be enough to lock in a 2 seed. Thoughts?

I think it depends on how much the committee relies on the final NET rankings? For some reason no matter what we seem basically frozen around 17 there, but obviously initial committee rankings has us higher. For example, Duke was 22 in the NET and that win only bumped us up 1, but Duke also moved up despite losing? I think a 2 seed is our highest possibility unless a few teams in the big10 and pac12 canabalize themselves the last week or two

Just Win Baby.

Colorado is the team that didn't belong on that top line. if we win the ACC tourney we will likely get a 1 seed, the league is strong and our SoS will be as well.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Whatever seed avoids SCar the longest is the one I want. The only team in the country I don't think we have a shot against.

I wouldn't mind facing them in Cleveland on April 7.

It'd be a nice birthday present for my wife.

Beat NC State twice, get seeded behind them. Figures.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

To be fair, yes we beat them twice. They also lost to Miami. They have one less loss than the Hokies.

They also have six Top 25 wins. Hokies only have four. It's frustrating but probably accurate.

Give us another week or two...

Lady Hokies check in as the #10 overall team, good for a 3-seed.

Motion to make "Lokies" the official name of the Lady Hokies.

It is, low-key, a good alternate nickname

this probably triggers me more than anyone else, but the official (nick)name is already the "Hokies"

Never heard of Silver Waves, if they can't bother to actually do research no reason to start now.

Has anyone heard anything on Micheaux down the stretch? Would loce to have more depth heading into March

If she's forced to play at this point, we're probably in deep shit

Strack developed into a better post addition for Kitley faster than expected.

Summiel has the ability to stretch the 4, which was a weakness of Micheaux.

Summiel's athletic ability and rebounding makes up a bit for her lack of shooting. It might also be that Micheaux has another year and this is Summiels. Brooks can work with Rose for next year.

I'm not sure the seeding for this team matters all that much. They should fairly easily win their first two games in the NCAA tournament.

Then the equation works out like this once they hit the 2nd weekend: if at least 2 players other than Kitley play well, they probably win. If it's the Liz Kitley show, they probably aren't beating any of the teams left.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

The key is not being in SCARs corner of the bracket. I don't want to see them before the Final 4. We'd have a chance but not a great one - I don't think there are many better coaches out there than Brooks, but Dawn Staley unfortunately is one of them.

Everybody else looks beatable. Texas is on a hot streak similar to ours at the moment, but they haven't played the same level of competition as us over the past 5 weeks. We'll know more tomorrow night after their game @ Oklahoma.

EDIT: Didn't realize the streak that anOSU has been on, but upon closer inspection, they haven't really been tested much on the road this year. One game against an opponent with a winning conference recorde (@ Michigan State), which they won. Senior day on the road at Iowa, who will be looking for revenge, is going to be a tough out.

Last bracketology this morning has the team up to a 2-seed in anOSU's region. Oregon State and Kansas State as the 3-seed and 4-seed, respectively. Texas and Stanford look like two most vulnerable 1-seeds for us to poach their seed with tough road games this week if we get past ND on the road ourselves.

anOSU closes the season at Iowa; unfortunately I'd think the rankings and the committee would just swap the two rather than slide us up in the event of anOSU losing. At least one B1G team ends a 1-seed in the tournament, and it's probably the one that wins the conference tourney. anOSU winning @Iowa and then an Iowa conference tourney title would be an interesting scenario that might get both onto the 1-line.

The teams above us in Creme's bracketology are:

1-1 South Carolina
1-2 Ohio State
1-3 Stanford
1-4 Texas
2-1 USC
2-2 Iowa

This week's matchups are:
Wednesday: Ohio St vs Michigan, Texas @ #20 Oklahoma, Iowa @ Minnesota
Thursday: USC @ Arizona, SoCar @ Arkansas, Stanford @ #11 Oregon St
Saturday: USC @ Arizona St, Stanford @ Oregon, Texas vs BYU
Sunday: SoCar vs Tennessee, Ohio St @ Iowa

If the Hokies win @ Notre Dame and @ UVA, it's not outside of the realm of possibility to pass Iowa (loss to OSU), Texas (loss to OU), and Stanford (loss to Oregon St).

That would put us on the 1 line.

Unfortunately if Iowa wins we probably drop in the rankings. I don't think a loss to Iowa will knock Ohio State down past 5 and believe Iowa would jump us. We are probably better off with Ohio State winning out including the B10 tournament which would mean Iowa would have at least two more losses.

Not to mention miss Arm Bar would lose a couple more times and that isn't a bad thing.

Also the NET once again does not really like us this year - currently 14th even after the run we've been on the past month. ND is above us at 10th, so that'll help out if we can beat them in their house.

Think we're being held down by the lack of a currently elite team in the NET rankings and no big OOC win. ACC has four teams in the 10-20 range currently, but the SEC/PAC2 have multiple teams above the ACCs highest ranked. Texas is the exception, but they have a big home win vs UCONN in the non-conference

The next 3-5 games for everyone will weigh large as many of the teams looking for top seeds have their own cases to make. I see the 1 seeds being filled with SC and converence tourney champs

Down goes #3 Texas!!

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

With the win, OU is also big XII champs. Gonna make things interesting...
