Just passed two cars stopped on I-81 South just after the 118 exit. I have to imagine it was a Wahoo family who forgot which way it is to little brother's room.

My son and I were at that game. Was able to snag a few suite tickets for the game through work. Our suite was next to the LOLUVA AD's suite that was hosting their illustrious football alumnus Chris Long and his better half. Enjoyed looking at their faces as we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
We were the only two Hokies in the suite. We are both big boys. We cheered our asses off, especially after the Blackshear's falling layup to seal the win with seconds left.
Afterwards there were plenty of butthurt LOLUVA fans yelling at us about how many national championships they've won. So, they've got that going for them.

Those poor 'hoos? won't be able to blow their nose or poop nor need to go to church for at least a month. We beat the everlovin' snot, shit and devil right out of 'em.

UVA is what I hate about college hoops. Their coach is so good that their worst teams win 12-14 ACC games and are locks for the dance. It's so annoying. UVA is NOT good this year, but they will have a double bye in the ACC and be a 6 seed in March. UVA fans, unlike me- get to watch their team on the big stage this year, and we just ran them out of the gym... so fucking annoying- but that's how good Bennett is.

nah- that's my point. When Hunter left, they were supposed to suck- and they finished like 3rd in the league. They always win 12 plus acc games- regardless the strength of the league- Bennett is that good. Must be nice.

Matchup predictor is figuring the Hokies win 4 of the 5 remaining and end up at 11-9 in the ACC with 19 overall wins. After the start of this season, I will be happy with that.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
True, but with confidence going we might make a run in the tourney again. As I said, we had a horrible start and middle of the season. I am happy we are playing better basketball now and the murderers row of opponent teams is over. Would I love to be in the big dance, definitely. I am happy we aren't likely to have a losing season like a lot of teams out there.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The start wasn't horrible. Good wins over Boise and Iowa state in the non con. South Car and Auburn are tourney teams- those aren't bad losses per se. The middle is the issue. Started 1-4 in the league and then dropped a couple- Miami and ND that kills your bubble. Disappointing. We did beat a Clemson team that for the 25th time in the last 27 years will be fighting to get into the Dayton game of the dance, so that is good.

lighten up, francis. They came into town just a half game off of leading the conference in their marquee sport and we kicked their asses up and down the court. You'd think you could find a way to be positive after a showing like that.

It was a good win, but in case you haven't noticed, college basketball is about March. It's about the big dance, march madness. That's what gets me excited moreso than beating a UVA team that will have a double bye in the ACCT and be in the dance as we watch from home. Always good to beat UVA, yes- but what did we gain? nothing. What did they lose? nothing in the grand scheme. It's about the big dance.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
You're right. We are not playing in march. It sucks. In fact, I think you should send a strongly worded letter to Mike Young letting him know that until he gets the hokies back into the post season, you are going to boycott all things Hokie, starting with online message boards.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'll boycott message boards when you learn to read things in context. This started with- you should read it- my first post clearly stating that I was pissed that UVA is good and we are not. Shoot me.

To be fair, we have nobody to blame but ourselves over what this season has become.
We get up for the UVa game. We always do, they're our rival, we get up for those games in every sport. But for so, so much of this basketball season we've sleptwalked through games and because of it, we've had some really bad and head scratching losses throughout. We play every game like we did last night, and we're a 20 win team contending for the ACC double bye and a lock for the NCAA Tournament. But we don't play every game like that, we're maddeningly inconsistent and because of it, we're not even on the bubble. UVa plays a more consistently good game than we do.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
A disturbing pattern under young for sure- we are not a great road team in conference. That kills you over time. Also Miami and FSU - 2 teams you need to beat if you want to go dancing, typically are very tough for us to beat. We've stumbled against BC before and Forbes and his gang of transfers has beat us like a drum lately. Notice I have not mentioned UNC and Duke, and thank god Louisville has been down. Frustrating for sure.

The biggest difference and especially surprising was the 24-4 edge in points off turnovers. Hokies scored on 10 of the 12 turnovers they generated.
The second key was going inside with the ball on isolated opportunities and the bigs delivered. Kidd, Poteat and Beran had 38 points and the team outscored UVA in the paint 36-26.

This, this and this. A team needs to make their opponents pay for their mistakes. Majority....we fail to do this. You gots to make them pay. Last night our beloved Hokies took that rusty jaded dagger and slowly grinder in LOLUVA's belly over and over.
Our TO's were almost nonexistent.
Poteat, Kidd and Nickel played with swagger and attitude. They didn't just discover it, they've always had it. Having these three play the way they did last night lifts Beran's play. These four have the ability to do these in every game but must be in lock step with each other. Individually, not so much and it is easier said than done. Last night was a Stars and Moon kind of thing.
Getting to the foul line was huge too.

While I agree with your statements in general and they certainly apply in particular to the few "bad" losses we've had, ND stands out. However the effort and the mojo were there against UNC but my god the talent gap was obvious. Our bigs did not get the ball with two feet or even one foot in the paint all night. They were physically pushed out and then the ball pressure was tremendous. Both severely limited the entry pass and really disrupted our flow. And the number of fully contested 3s Carolina made was staggering.

I think kudos should go to the video analysts and assistants that did an impressive job of breaking down what UVA does offensively and defensively, and then teaching the players how to attack on both ends of the court.
Our guys knew exactly what to do and did it with precision over and over.

UVA is a likely NCAA tournament team (although more like and 8 or 9 seed), and we will be lucky to be in the NIT. That's not a surprise. This VT team was never going to make the NCAA tournament this year. No chance. And if you switched coaches with UVA at the beginning of the year, Mike Young probably has UVA in the NCAAs and Tony Bennett probably has VT in the NIT.
For the most part, the team has actually done pretty well this year. They've had some bad losses because they aren't a great team. But I don't see the point in complaining about it at this point in the season, especially the day after their best game all year.

The Hokies vs Orange on the 27th and performance against same opponents may end up the tipping factor between a first round bye. Syracuse unfortunately has a similar remaining ACC schedule with Notre Dame and Louisville still to play. Having to cheer for NC St and Clemson in their games against the Orange will be painful. Hokies have to find a way to win in the Dome.

This was about the men's side and position for the one game bye not the women's side.
Syracuse men by beating NC State moved to 8-8 in conference ahead of the Hokies 7-8. Syracuse only has Clemson, Louisville and Notre Dame remaining outside of the Hokies at Syracuse on the 27th.
Hokies are currently the 10th seed which would mean playing the first day in the tournament.

LET'S GO
HOKIES!!!!
HOKIES!!!
Man that wasn't even close
Worst ACC defeat in Tony's LOLUVA career FAM.
Almost doubled them up FAM!
Destroyed loluva! FAM!!!
This is OUR state!! FAM!!
LET'S GO!!! ❤️🦃🏀
Always great beating those taint lickers
FAM!
Whoa, what did taint lickers ever do to you? Don't need to insult them like that.
FAM! 30+ point victory and biscuits! Maybe Vegas knows a thing or two.
LOLUVA!!!!!
Little brother beatdown! FAM!
So.... Today we like Mike Young, correct?
Time for a raise and a 10-year extension with a massive buyout, right?
He said like not in love with Mike Young.
never stopped us before
Wessler block FAM!!!
UVA STILL COULDN'T OUTSCORE OUR FOOTBALL TEAM FAM!
This needs more legs.
The only good thing that didn't happen today was no bacon.
Hell of a game FAM
It would have been the cherry on top if our bench outscored their whole team. Sooo close.
VT bench - 37 points
LOLuva - 41 points
FAM!!!
Who would have thought we would win like that and none of the starting guards would be in double figures?!
If I told you our starting guards would combine for just 18 points and 7 assists, you would justifiably be worried we got smoked.
I need to see the surrender cobra!!!
FAM!
As sweet as Tupelo honey!
All the sweeter if it costs them the regular season ACC Title.
"JUST LIKE FOOTBALL!!!"
"JUST LIKE FOOTBALL!!!"
My favorite post on the Sabre points out that we hit the winning shot 42 seconds into the second half.
No one had responded to it when I was reading through.
That's just a brutal admission of defeat.
I almost feel bad for them. More for the players. You have the occasional off night. But, that is worse than off.
Almost. Then I remember how pretentious much of their fan base is. Then I don't feel so bad anymore.
No feeling bad about this - the Hoos certainly wouldn't. 100 point margin and I'd still be cheering for a three!
You mean this one, "putting the game away," so to speak:

It's the highlight reel dunk, credited to "Michael Collins Jr" in the caption:
Lynn Kidd flying jam for the winning margin
Just passed two cars stopped on I-81 South just after the 118 exit. I have to imagine it was a Wahoo family who forgot which way it is to little brother's room.
Cue the LOLUVA truck getting stuck in the mountains.
Found it
FAM !!
Checked the score when putting the kids to bed and it was over at halftime. It was nice watching the 2nd half like it was a victory lap.
LOLUVa fam!
What a glorious ass kicking!
Amazing what playing good defense and taking care of the ball can do for you
What I loved was the announcers saying VT is playing better defense than UVA and that is all UVA has normally.
Always great to put down the boohoos
It's a great day to be a Hokie and it's a better day to dominate the hoos! FAM!
Rumor is VA State Police on their way to Blacksburg to investigate a crime committed in front of 8,000 people. Wooo boy, that escalated quickly.
BIG WIN for the guys. Big confidence booster with a lot of winnable games remaining.

Here have another.

This game was fun too
FAMFAMFAM
FAM! Glad I tuned into watch the game. Very fun to watch. CMY can we get more games like this please?
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE GIFTORY FAM!
I refreshed the score a few times on my phone because I thought it was glitchy.
I showed my 12 year old the score on my phone this morning and he just started laughing maniacally. #SignsI'mRaisingThemRight
Those poor 'hoos? won't be able to blow their nose or poop nor need to go to church for at least a month. We beat the everlovin' snot, shit and devil right out of 'em.
Back to back big game threads that barely broke 50 comments due to pleasantly surprised FAM!!
Giftory— any shot of the score from 7mins to go & later where they're doubled up. 31-63 stuck out at me.
Oh and BTW....not a single mention of this blowout on ESPN.
Fuck ESPN and Matt Ryan too.
FAM FAM FUCKETTY FAM
It was on Scott Van Pelt SportsCenter after the double header. (but agreed maybe only because it was the game of the night on the network)

be civil, telling another commenter to stay away from tkp is pretty gauche
I think a better characterization of LOUVA is they are a less talented team than previously. Bennett clearly elevates their talent.
Bad teams only get the double byes in bad conferences.

Yeah I think I may have taken Coach a bit to seriously when he said they didn't really do anything different.
Rumor has it we dropped UVA significantly in the NET rankings and moved up just as significantly.
They are a 6-7 seed and we will be lucky to be in the NIT
This mornings bracketology update dropped them to a 9 seed.
Are you complaining or stating a fact?

Didn't we basically swap positions?
Maybe, but they have to win 3 games to win the ACCT, we have to win 5. They are also old basketball money in the committee's eyes, so they are in.
What have you done for me lately *
* restrictions apply
I bet you a nickel we won't be playing first day. We're only one spot away.

Welp NC State let us down yesterday. Syracuse picked up the 87-83 road win.
I would not count UNC out from winning against NC State, nor Duke winning against Syracuse tonight
This was about the men's side and position for the one game bye not the women's side.

Oh I see you've met Ike. Be prepared for a wild ride, that guy has issues.
lol- is Tony Bennett the best defensive coach ever by a wide margin? Or does UVA foul every possession? hmmm
The Narduzzi defense
Like Shaka Smart's Havoc defense. Too many fouls to call so they don't.
FAM?
This is the FAM thread right? Couldn't tell based on all these comments today.
For UVa fans, it is all over but the slow walking and the sad singing!!!
Like after they actually score a touchdown in games other than the Commonwealth Cup game?
Came here to post this -- love it!
first thing he has done that i dont hate
My senior year I was shooting a video for a class outside Burruss and saw him walking by. I impulsively started screaming his name and tracked his ass down - he looked terrified at first - and brought him over to where my tripod was set up and basically forced him to say some cheesy line into the camera. He was actually super nice about it, and I think his surprise cameo got me a C+ instead of a C...so thank you, Sandsman? Hadn't thought about that in a while!
What are the things he's done you don't like?
I'm asking out of pure curiosity as an alum who hasn't been to Blacksburg in more than 20 years.
The big thing that most people have had issue with were his extending contracts with extreme buyouts early in careers (see: Fuente)
You have an issue with Sands for the AD extending contracts?
Ah, I was assigning issues with Babcock to Sands.
My mistake.
The low hanging fruit is removing "Invent the Future" and replacing it with "Know your place" (claim you role) along with the other rebranding efforts. There is also the extreme over-acceptance of students and significant spend on luxuries and administration that are still somehow allowing costs for students to increase while even having way too many students.
College is a business. We like to call it higher education but its nothing more than a government backed business.
