The Ladies face Notre Dame today at noon on the ACC Network. Both teams are coming off of hard fought victories yesterday. Notre Dame pulled away at the end after leading most of the game to beat Louisville 77-68.
The Irish were led by the trio of Hidalgo, Westbeld and Citron.

They only played 7 players. And in a fairly called game probably would have had four players foul out. Below is their roster. Only the top 7 players got minutes yesterday.

I don't have a good feeling about this game. We lost to them 71-58 in South Bend on Feb 29 with Kitley playing. This game will probably come down to how the refs call fouls. If ND is allowed to push us all over the court and we are not allowed to guard Hidalgo, we'll have a tough game.
The Hokies played a much closer game against Miami winning 55-47. We were up 4 after the first quarter; up 5 after the second and up 3 after the third. And finally pulled away in the fourth. The only reason the game was this close is because we shot 5-25(19.2%) from three and only 33.9% overall. I think everyone was feeling the pressure, not big game pressure; but how do we play without Liz pressure. Amoore, especially, was trying to do too much in the first half. She settled down in the second. Summiel and Ekh both seemed tight, missing shots they would normally make. Even Strack, who played well, missed a couple of layups. She did make a couple of plays that looked a lot like Kitley.
Hopefully, Coach Brooks can settle everyone down and they can play their game. If Amoore can get some help from Ekh and King and Strack can play a good game, we have a chance.
LET'S GO HOKIES!

Let's go!
HOKIES!!!
Unfortunately I think today we are really looking for a moral victory and to show progress as a team without Liz more than we are realistically going to have a chance to win.
Either way I will be there supporting again

Curious to see if the lack of the Amoore/Kitley pick and roll actually makes it harder for them to play us like they did last time. If we can get hot from 3 and they can't double Georgia off picks, I like our chances of keeping it close.
This!^^^^
Plus last game it just felt like the whole team was cold and we couldn't hit anything letting ND pull away early. We couldn't even make layups.
Yeah Amoore alone missed like nine or ten layups.
I haven't worn a jersey for a women's game since being at the Rutgers game. Time to Don the #4 Eddie Royal/David Wilson jersey again.
Kitley sighting before warmups - she was out shooting around and semi-jogging!
We need this to be the scene where Hidalgo falls into the pit with the spikes
Dark, but I like it
Wow two girls with hands on Rose's arms there but out of bounds on her
no whistles in the paint today
yeah should have been three already on Westbeld and the other forward. Rose was getting battered
is over-the-back not a thing anymore?
Not when it's done to us
Amoore is trying to play hero ball today.
She's going to have to be the hero unless somebody else can step up and give some other balanced scoring for the team
man we get disrespected these ACC commercials almost zero clips in the montage that shows any VT logos or the word Hokies. Football and basketball the same
Is anyone elses feed just terribly blurry?
Nope, but I'm on regular cable tv.
put your glasses on Rob! /s
Multiple contacts against Amoire on that drive no calls
Westbeld got a whole lot of arm on that Amoore "block" but its going to be that kind of day again by the looks of things
Kenny had every right to get in the refs ears on that blatant reach in the open floor.
Wow Hidalgo should have had two fouls chasing Amoore in the backcourt
They got to call that crap. But, looks like same old from the refs.
Bad foul by King there.
Yeah. You gotta make sure she doesn't get up if you're gonna do that...kidding. Mostly.
That was really dumb by King to get her second with five seconds left. Now means she sits most of the second quarter
Don't like King getting that 2nd foul. Terrific job hanging in there and getting it under 5 at the end of the quarter. Bottom line is that the girls have to make shots. Too many good looks for everyone but Amoore. That's obviously the strategy, so the rest of the team HAS to find a way to start making those. If King and Baker just make one of those open looks each, we're in the lead.
We need to keep it close or win the 2nd quarter. We cannot afford to get blown out in the 2nd again.
Super cold 3-point shooting again two of nine in the first quarter. 9 of our 12 points Off the Bench. got to get production out of the starters here. Amoore 1-7 needs to get hot like last game after a slow start. Hidalgo 0-4 with 1 point is good.
Face it. There will be no over-the-back, arm bar, or reach in fouls called on ND. And very few if any moving screens called on them. We will be called for breathing.
I don't like the help in the middle of the zone. Give them 2, don't give their best shooters wide open 3's
Georgia continuing her trend of starting slowly. Really wish she could be more consistent from start to finish instead of always having to get hot in the second half
Got to get one more foul to get in the bonus here
There it is
She did double dribble but two free throws Irish
Holy s*** we scored in the second quarter
Not a great choice by Wenzel there closely guarded and then commits the foul
Wenzel needs to shot fake that jumper. If Citron is going to try that hard to get up to block the shot, get her off her feet with a shot fake and draw the contact. Need to get her 3rd foul before the half.
Yup
Man, the pick and roll with Strack is there everytime...
Let's hope they see that and make the adjustment at halftime
Got to make the freebies
Of course no whistle on Summiel getting knocked down there
More like bulldozed down.
Strack has to have FT shooting on the must improve list for this offseason. Gotta make at least one of those.
Bad swing there. Miss 2 free throws, give up a 3 point play and then a bad, bad turnover by Amoore
How was there no foul there during that rebound
And another turnover
What has gotten into Georgia these last 5 games of the run to the baseline, jump out of bounds, and huck the ball backwards in hopes someone is there? It has been driving me insane
But threw it away twice now in a row
And another one
Lot of dumb mistakes. Always seem to do this in second quarter
We're not even trying to get inside and ND is just defending the perimeter
I thought Micheaux did a great job getting to bakery and fighting for offensive boards in the first quarter. Need her back in the second half.
Well based on where it was with five and a half to go in the second quarter having not scored at all I suppose this could be worse?
4 straight turnovers to end the half was not idea. Still, we are still in it. Need to make the open shots and play smart. LET'S GO!!
did we not watch the Lville film where they finally drove and started coming back?
Box score on ESPN shows a 10 point lead now....must have made a correction on a 3 pt shot?
Yeah, the westbeld three with her foot on the line I think.
Westbeld hit a three they originally scored a 2
If they don't show it to us with a replay, it didn't happen, right?
Good: 4 pints for Hidalgo.
Bad: slow start again for Amoore although she's up to 33% now. Total as a team 25% from 3 and 29% overall needs to change in a hurry. Rebounds assists and personal fouls are fairly even it's all in the shooting right now.
Good: give Hidalgo another pint maybe she'll be too drunk to compete! /s
Last game I said Amoore would go off for 30 in the second half and she went off for 23 I believe? This time I'll say shes going to go off for 24 and not be so greedy. She needs help though.
Holy shit...missing everything from three feet again
Jesus. That's not an ideal start.
Unfortunately, feels like the whole team is in panic mode...
Don't think we can come back from this start of the second half.
Bad senseless turnovers are killing us.
So many really bad turnovers
Jesus f****** Christ we can't handle the ball.
Man, this game has been a bit disappointing for Kenny. Some very questionable personnel decisions and no real adaptation to how they are playing
Summiel completely standing still there
Jersey didn't help. This is brutal.
We just cant do much of anything right today. Irish dont even need the refs. As good as our defense was yesterday is as bad as it is today.
Whelp. Let's just hope we still get a top 4 seed and that we get Liz back
Looking at this team now without Liz I'm not sure we make it through the first weekend.
Unfortunately I think we are going to drop to a 5/6
Thankfully, teams ranked 4, 7, 12, 13, 17, and 18 have all lost so far. 14 ND will obviously move above us. But the other teams behind us are also losing.
It's the way we lost that makes me think we drop farther
True, but most of them lost to unranked teams, we didn't. Even though we did get blown out
ND HOKIES
PoT 13 2
ScP 5 2
Paint 20 8
FT 7 2
--------
total 45 14
Rose just has zero touch underneath
Got to get the ball above the rim for it to have a chance to go in.
The secondary players who had a really good February I thought just completely disappearing is a bit surprising not gonna lie. Eck hasn't scored in like 3 games now
Yeah....Ech really disappeared.
Maybe Brooks needs to put her in and just let her start chucking them up. She needs to see something go in to let her know she can still get it done.
Double-double by Summiel.
How the fuck was that not a foul landing on summiel?
or landing on King to knock her down and out of bounds
Maybe it was king I was talking about. They look similar
5-16 on layups for us. Ugh.
Ladies are about to be bad history based on the stat they just showed...
Welp..just made history...largest loss in a semifinal by a #1 seed in the ACCT
I mean true but context also matters. Losing the 3 time Acc player of the year will do that
Losing the 3 time ACC POY is a huge deal, but I'm not sure it warrants what we witnessed today.
Just my opinion.
Cant even get the basic calls even though it doesnt matter
Give credit where credit is due. ND kicked our butts. They made their shots, we didn't. They limited their turnovers, we didn't. Would it have been different with Liz playing? Who knows. ND played the team that was put on the floor against them and they won. I think ND will win tomorrow.
Yup. 51% to 30% overall will get you beat every day. Add in 64% to 28% from three and 90% to 43% from the line.....doesn't matter what any of the other stats are.
It's always painful watching their starters play with 3 and 4 fouls and we can't get more aggressive and take advantage, but this game there really was no hope after that awful stretch between the 2nd and third quarters.
Welp
Welp twice
Woof. Nobody left early though
Watching what South Carolina is doing to Tennessee starting their game does two things 1) Don't feel as bad how we lost 2) want to avoid SCar for as long as possible.
Have to give Tennessee credit. They were down over 20 at different points and gave SCar its biggest scare yet but lost by one.
How did they leave her wide open for that shot on the inbounds to win the game!!
No idea ...they did everything else right to have a shot at the win
Not sure how to take this game as I wasn't able to watch all of it.
1. We apparently couldn't hit the broad side of the barn.
2. King has had the yips shooting in all of ACC play.
3. Ekh disappeared in the last four games. Three straight blanks.
4. ND player overheard by camera going the locker room saying "Refs letting us do whatever we want." I understand that was communicated to refs and they called more fouls on ND in second half. But that has seemed like half our games this year, when nobody could get a call.
Refs weren't great but had no significant impact on the result. Bad shooting was not the worst factor though, the turnovers were. Hokies couldn't go four possessions it seemed like without one.
The calls and the turnovers are connected, though. The same way they were at ND in regular season. Being constantly fouled leads to turnovers.
I disagree on yesterday's game. Most of the turnovers didn't happen after physical bumping and shoving. Amoore was out of control, Rose just coughed the ball up in the paint and Summiel made several inadvisable passes across Notre Dame players. Points off turnovers was only an eight point advantage but considering how the Hokies shot the ball that's huge.
The other area the Hokies shot themselves in the foot on was not getting enough out of the offensive rebounds. Had 17 offensive rebounds that only led to 10-12 points.
Shooting percentage difference of 20% is going to get you beat every time.
I see what you mean, but would argue the uncalled fouls combined for a situation that led to amoore having to press and getting people off their game. Certainly dodnt help ourselves, but the calls shaped the game
where can I find proof of #4?
