Welcome home, Ty'Drez!

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

Seems like a project worth investing in.

I coached a kid similar to this in the Valley a few years ago - similar in size speed and skillset. That kid ended up at Navy then on to an HBCU. I honestly don't think he had the work ethic to be good, though he had the potential.

This kid seems to have good speed and vision with even better balance. Strong for his size. Not a ton of wasted movement, which is good when you need to optimize your skillset.

I think if he can come in and hit the weight room he can eventually find a place to contribute. I love when these local kids commit to being Hokies!

Is coronavirus over yet?

All I can say is, if Army and Navy both accepted him, seems like he must (1) be pretty smart and (2) have a good work ethic. 2 traits that are nice to have on your team.

Typically, military academy nominees are of exceptional character also. That won't always translate to wins on the field but it will always (well almost always) make you proud of what they do on and off the field.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

As a former USAF Academy nominee (though I ended up declining to attend and became a Hokie instead) I am taking this as an "unknowing unintended" compliment-thanks. And yes I tend to agree with your statement in general.

By virtue of my father's status in the Navy, and at the Academy where he taught for at least two years, I was gifted a Congressional Alternate appointment to Annapolis. They basically gave my dad the respect he'd earned, but likely recognized my lack of interest and mediocre grades, despite decent SATs. I wasn't offered a spot, wouldn't have gone regardless, but it was something that I think about now that I'm old enough to appreciate what it signified. I figure I was probably smart enough, but lacked the kind of motivational drive to successfully become Naval officer material. I do wonder, though, what life would have been like in the Navy band. The Highty Tighties were one thing, and I fizzled out there pretty quickly, but still...

Yeah I was the primary appointment for my Congressman and passed the flight physical and fitness test, but the 9 year commitment (college/flight school/service requirement) was more than 18 year old me was willing to make in the end.

I often ponder the road not taken- where would I have been rank wise? Location wise during the many conflicts(Desert Storm; Kosovo, Iraqi Freedom etc.)? Would I have survived to be the age I am now(59) ? etc.

But ultimately , we all make the choices we made and live with them. I don't regret the ones I made as each of them brought me to where I am now and I am very blessed. Sharing those blessings is my goal and mission in whatever time God sees fit to keep me here on earth.

Yeah, I'm 73 and have come to terms with how life's gone so far. My Army service was reluctant, the Vietnam war still on, but in retrospect, I wouldn't have missed it for the world for how wide my eyes were opened.
