Emma Lemley with four shutout innings and eight strikeouts. Struggled in bottom of fourth, loading bases, but worked out of it with two pop ups.

I'm surprised they haven't called this one yet due to the pouring rain and many Hokie home runs.

And there is the weather delay

Have to finish 4 innings to be official I think.

A conference series should never be this uncompetitive. 35 runs to 4 in 3 games, with 2 games ending early due to the mercy rule.

couple of points...
-Pitt lost a three game series to Georgia Tech. All three losses were by the mercy rule. Two 5th innings and one 6th inning.
-Pitt has not played a home game yet this season. Their first home game is coming up this Tuesday against Penn State. Then this coming weekend against Florida State. So it doesn't get any better for them.
-Virginia Tech is really, really good.

I agree that we would like the conference to be more competitive top to bottom, but keep in mind that Duke(6), Clemson(12), and Florida State(16) are all currently ranked above us(18). Also Stanford, who will be in the conference next year is currently ranked 9th. I think the conference is pretty competitive.

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

In general I agree with you, but there are always ebbs and flows to college sports in general and softball in particular. It wasn't that long ago that Pitt beat us 3 games out of 4 - won 2 of 3 in the regular season and knocked us out of the ACC tourney. They have a first year head coach (came over from almost 30 years as HC at Harvard) who acknowledged they needed a lot of development, so I'll be interested to see how they look in a couple years.

If you want to see the reverse, unfortunately most of the women's lacrosse conference games were that way for the Hokies the last few years. Even this season they have a 20-7 loss and a 15-5 loss in conference.

It's a relatively new sport and the other ACC schools are fully developed top tier programs.
