Who's gonna be in Blacksburg this weekend?
Interestingly enough I will be in town this weekend and walking around on Saturday, but probably not actually attending the game itself since I'll be with some people who mostly don't care for football, as part of an alumni fundraiser for a student organization i was involved in. and a great chance to show Mrs Chumps around the area for the first time.

Unfortunately, I don't get to go. Would much rather be there than in DC playing Sherpa for the cherry blossom parade.
Had planned a visit and lined up accommodations with the BIL down in Radford before I remembered it was my brother's 40th birthday...
I will be losing golfballs at Golden Horseshoe Green and Colonial Heritage courses in Williamsburg instead.
Golden Horseshoe= no joke. Enjoy
I haven't swung a club in close to six months so... should be interesting. Regardless it'll be a blast, our standing foursome is going down together. My best friend and I always play for fun, his older brother and mine always play to win. It ultimately becomes my buddy and I teasing them for taking brotherball golf far too seriously and attempting to get them drunk so that we can actually steal a W.
The par 3's on both courses require one extra club typically. Driving is paramount on Green. Enjoy it!!
Kids sports make it a non-starter. Rain out this last weekend is also barring me from Alumni Weekend in June.
Its my wife's birthday weekend and she wanted to go so we'll be there! Definitely going to get there early to get lunch somewhere in town.
I will try, but the wife and I are trying to get the old house ready for going on the market this weekend. Final cleaning and touchups.
Heck in this market you can probably have trash laying all over your house and it will sell sight unseen (jk jk, but have heard some ridiculous housing stories from my realtor MIL of late). Goodluck with the selling/buying/moving!
Well I am less than a mile from the mall in Cburg walking, and in a neighborhood with no HOA. I am hoping for a day 3 offer.
When we bought the house we are in now, we gave an all cash offer over asking.
When we were selling the old house after that, we had someone - on the first day - ask what we would need to get to take it off the market right there. Our realtor suggested price it low and let people bid it up and it ended up being several hours before we agreed to the sale - for well above asking price.
A developer then asked about the property and our agent said he had to let us know about it as we had not signed the papers yet. Could probably get $10,000 more, but we had already verbally told a young couple that we accepted their offer and was not going to break my word to them. There are not many little starter homes in the area and I knew they would have a hard time finding another 1,025 or 1,050 or whatever it was sq ft home.
Location, location, location... For every story like this (bidding wars) there are others where people can't get loans, lots of inventory, etc. It's a tough market to predict. Right now if you are in a good school district- sell.
I hope I have as good an experience. Nice family neighborhood sandwiched close the mall, Walmart, etc. but still geographically isolated to not see any of it. We are in the process of some cosmetic improvements to try an maximize value. Already had a realtor told me to start at (her number for the house) above what I was hoping for. Looks like it will sell for a little more than double what I paid in 2004.
Not there for the spring game, but will be there in August as our summer vacation has morphed into spend only some time in Great Smoky Mountain NP and also drive around NC, TN and VA to show my daughter (she's human, not a bear) areas around some colleges. Of course, making sure VT is on the list.
She's 9th grade, so not doing real tours, just driving around to show the areas and what some campuses are like. She wants to go somewhere warmer and stay in the east, so I'm thinking VA, NC, SC, TN, GA and have been scouting out schools with good programs in the 2 areas she is interested in. Eventually I'll be asking people's thoughts on places.
Schools depend on majors. Anybody who is really interested in education, I would recommend Radford over Tech.
She has 2 areas of interest. Genetics/Biology/(kind of stuff I trained for and can advise her on) and graphic design. I was looking at graphic design as a major and it is mostly little art schools, which we are not paying for. Seems like the major is "Design", which I don't know much about, but seems to include graphic design, photography, video ...
Anyway, looked at something like the top 150-200 biology/biochemistry/molecular biology/genetics type places and maybe top 100 design places in the country and found several in the target states that have the biology and, I think, 7 or so that also were in the design group. Looking to consider them. VT was on both lists.
That is cool. I know Tech strives to be excellent at some programs, Engineering and Business, and good in most others. I remember when Torgenson basically shut down the education department stating that we had the worst education department of all the Virginia public schools and the money was better spent elsewhere.
Not exactly warmer, but U of Cincinnati has an excellent DAAP program, which revolves around all forms of Design.
If the boy can shake his daycare germs, we will be making a day of it with the 3.2, some tailgating and the game. It will be the wee ones first trip to Blacksburg so we are excited.
Damn, this seems like a list of who won't be there instead who will be, lol.
We're trying to get there. Flight was canceled this morning. Rebooked for tonight, but that fight has been delayed twice. Hoping to roll into the burg by 1am. So much for tonight's dinner at the Wine Lab.
And to top it off, our tailgating partners canceled due to the flu, so we're looking for a tailgate to crash.
Opening day of turkey season. My fandom only goes so far. Someone let me know how we look.
We haven't been able to make it to a game in a few years, and this will be the first one we're bringing our son to - any suggestions on where we should try to park so he doesn't get *too* tired out from all the walking? We were gonna try to show him a bit of Main St. (maybe hit up Sharkey's) and the campus before making the walk to Lane to check out Hokie Village, etc.
If your going don't setup your tent.
If the wind is like tonight's Softball game then this is great advice. Seeing ponytails blowing sideway on the field.
