To be expected this week after the conclusion of spring practice. Conversations are being had with where they stand, so I would expect a few more after the two today.
This puts us at 3 scholarship QBs rostered, according to Bitter, sounds like Pry will be QB hunting in the portal
I liked what I saw from him from the Spring Game. Was hoping he stuck around.
Time to give a scholly to Ben Locklear
Don't like it, he was a pretty good backup and I wish he had given it more time. But if he feels the need to transfer down a level it might be better for his career.
Better arm strength and possibly more accurate than Pop but also a very different QB, nowhere near as mobile
I mean, him and Pop are the same year right? So if Pop wins the starting job now, then Wittke is never starting, unless (a) there's an injury or (b) he drastically improves before Pop gets the starting job. AND it's tough to drastically improve when you're buried on the depth chart, and getting less practice/game snaps.
Well he's not gonna start anywhere right now. Apparently their competition was neck and neck, it seems like he had a decent chance to win it in the future
I guess the Portal is the end of the QB -> TE pipeline. Why change positions when you can just portal to some other school?
Top QB prospects have always transferred when they don't win the starting job, but now you are just going to see it a lot more now that you don't have to sit out a year. And of course not only the top prospects, but the mid ones as well.

Pop also was a 4 year starter in HS while Dylan didn't start until his senior year (and I think he actually got benched at some point?). He actually looked better than I expected considering I think the fan base would skewer our staff for giving a QB with his track record a scholarship now but we were in a different position in 2022. Agreed a transfer down is probably best, he can likely play closer to home too if he wants (ga state, ga southern, etc)
Dylan saw playing time in his junior season and was behind a qb who was heavily recruited by a lot of power 5 schools. He was banged up some his senior year and the fans were critical that the team (#1 in the country at the highest level) was not crushing every opponent. He was recruited by other Power 5's as well and not the head scratcher you imply. I always thought Pop was a better all around prospect but I hope the kid finds a spot to thrive. It looks like his mechanics have improved but he still holds the ball too long in the pocket.
Even before NIL madness, a huge portion of our backups have transferred post Beamer. If you don't start, bolt. It's even worse now with free unlimited transfers. I don't honestly know how you keep a good back up QB

If you're a lean, mean, fighting machine like VT who keeps your program in the black and on the up and up, you shop the portal. Hard.
Even under Beamer we had 10-15 non-senior players (not drafted bound too) not return every year from like 2004-2015
In many cases, I'm sure it's made clear they'll never see the field.

Minnesota has had a very good portal season.
Do or die year for PJ Fleck. Who has won one division title somehow had the power to change the football branding at a B1G school that had been playing football for 150 years prior. But now they are "Row the Boat" branded. Blows my fucking mind for a mid coach. Anywho- Fleck is gone after this year of he doesn't win 10 games, IMO
