Will start with a focused portal offer. Hokies make Top 4 for Hysier Miller put of Temple. Strikes me as very MJ Collins like. Can score but will struggle. Good floor vision and strong defense.
Temple transfer Hysier Miller is down to four schools, per source. Here are the programs he's considering:Seton HallVirginiaVirginia TechProvidenceHe averaged 15.9PPG, 4.0RPG, 3.6RPG and 1.8SPG this season. pic.twitter.com/CAVgHl7RX6— 24/7 High School Hoops (@247HSHoops) April 3, 2024

Love to hear the LOLUVa pitch. Want to be part of a team that sets low scoring records?
Want to get a chance to score at most once a minute?
"On a scale of 1 to orgasm. How excited does the phrase 'shot clock violation' make you?"
UVA Basketball. Where you get to play ball like a middle-aged married couple. Always on guard/defense and you only get to score about once a month.
Zed Key, who helped Ohio State beat the Hokies in the NIT has entered the portal. Hope Young goes after him. Definitely has the post physicality we have lacked.
Think of all the Key Plays we would have.
We should get an AMA with him, stat. Maybe it would help him think favorably on VT.
If not in England he is known as "Z(ee) Key."
I get the feeling he is fishing for NIL dollars not a different playing situation.
Aren't they all?
Anyone else notice that UK coach Calipari is about to sign on with Arkansas? Would UK then look to VT again to "collect the whole set"?
I'd be shocked if they set their sights that low
Think about it, Young's system with NIL backed athletes would be pretty damn scary.
Or did they preemptively hire kenny to coach both?
Imagine the pressure on him to win now if the men's team is a dumpster fire. Angry Kan Tuck fans. Ain't it grand?
Meh, Cal won a grand total of one NCAA title there. He survived the pressure for years.
Just shows how different Kentucky's expectations are. Calipari has a 410-123 (78%) record there and there has been serious talk of firing him the last three seasons. They would have owed him $33M if they did that this year. Calipari has struggled/been adverse to the portal which their fan base points to as why they kept making early NCAA exits.
At Arkansas he will be in a pretty good spot with his Billionaire buddy John Tyson backing him with just about anything he asks for.
Guys I expect to see on their short list:
Steve Massielo (Associate Head Coach at St Johns)
Mark Pope (BYU head coach)
Dwayne Casey (working in Detroit Pistons Management office)
The media is throwing around
Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino, Nate Oats, Dan Hurley, Scott Drew, Jay Wright, Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, Tommy Lloyd, TJ Otzelberger, Todd Golden
Mark Pope and Jay Wright make the most sense to me out of that group. Pope is a Kentucky guy and Wright is a proven champion if they can convince him to come out of the booth.
The top 25 prep players in America that just happened to be related to World Wide Wes are all out of eligibility. That gravy train was good for Cal while it lasted.
Did Kentucky give Arkansas a $10,000,000 grant to get them to take Cal off their hands?
Crazy that he would walk away from that golden parachute of a buy out, but he probably knows UK can't afford to eat that and would just make things miserable over the next few years. I guess get out now before things get too toxic since you know they can't afford to fire you. Kind of like the Fu situation from 2019-2021. We kind of knew he was a lame duck at the end of 2019 but couldn't move on then due to the buyout and then COVID, so things just became a toxic mess.
I think the thought process is: Kentucky itself can recruit enough skilled players to do well in sec and reach tourney, but coaching skill is whats missing to turn those players into a team that can succeed in March... Hell, put me in charge at kentucky with some NIL and I could recruit some one and dones
Calipari has struggled with the portal so his one and done approach works well until he goes up against a veteran team. He has not really been a great coach the last decade but more a great recruiter that let's his guys play AAU style ball. He really needs a great assistant head coach that can structure a program under him using the talent Calipari brings in the door.
Players are one and done because they are first round NBA draft picks. Nobody does one and done to get drafted mid second round- they stay in school at that point. So the logic is that if the NBA is the highest level of basketball, Calipari had more talent than anyone. The issue is that the NBA drafts largely on potential- thus some of these high round picks suck in real life. Many of them. The other issue is that Cal had the best players - Like Saban and Auriema do/did... they won though- big time. Cal did not.
dont think Jay Wright is going anywhere, he had the cushiest gig ever at villanova and retired because of the changes to the sport
Yeah he gave a firm no on national TV today when Kenny Smith asked him during the pregame coverage for National title game.
Calipari has been stoking the fire as well... Publicly taking passive aggressive shots at Mark Stoops isn't the best strategy either.
and Stoops fired back... Could have taken the high-road and talked about it internally, but instead chose to shoot back live on College Gameday (if I'm not mistaken).
I don't think the high road runs through Kentucky...
BBN is melting down.
He also had preceded over the worst post season run in KY history. His postseason record is all that matters.
I'll bet their fans are bitching about their head coach getting poached
for more money.Do we need a Cream Abdul Jabbar?
We need him, but doubt we can afford him
Kinda looks like a buff Buddy Holly...
Hokies will have visits coming up by
Jamie Kaiser, Freshman in portal from Maryland
6'6 Forward, avg 4.4 ppg, 2 rpg, 1 spg in about 20 mpg. Really struggled shooting the ball. 26.9% from floor/26.5% from 3
Jalen Leach, Grad transfer with one year remaining from Fairfield
Guard, avg 16.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3 apg, 1.8 spg.
Better both offensively and defensively than Collins. Shot 48.8% from floor and 35.4% from 3.
Looks like Hysier Miller from Temple will also be visiting April 19th. His information is the initial post for this thread.
Other players the Hokies have reached out to:
Justin Hill, Georgia
Duke Miles, High Point
Kobe Elvis, Dayton
Jared Coleman-Jones, MTSU
Jakobi Coles, TCU
Clemson PF transfer RJ Godfrey will be visiting tomorrow. He's 6-8, 228 pounds, several years of eligibility left, averaged 6.1 points per game last season.
Really hope Young can get him and Miller to commit this week.
I feel like this bit of information is becoming less and less important this day in age. I think we should just expect our roster to have 80%+ turnover every year. Eligibility of incoming recruits is really only relevant for the one year we should expect them to be here.
Especially since they get waivers for breathing now.
yeah, you could take it that direction. All I'm saying is eligibility is essentially irrelevant in terms of portal pick-ups. Anybody we get we can be happy to have for a season. After that, it's a crapshoot. So what does it matter if they have 1 year, 3 years, 15 years of eligibility? We can really only COUNT on having them for one season either way.
Not even. TCU had Van Lith for two weeks

This kid can play. Have been fortunate to watch him in person about a half dozen times. He is smart with the ball and is a menace on defense. His ranking has alternated at high 3/low 4 stars. He originally signed with Rhode Island but now has Tennessee and Hokies as his finalists. Only concern on him is size being able to handle the ACC grind. Hope he can add 15 lbs as a freshman conditioning.
Any insight on why we aren't interested in Dwight Vick's kid?
He's going to FUMA.
Coincidentally, Mike Young went to FUMA as well.
I get that, we still don't seem to be interested. Sophomore's/Juniors get offers all the time.
Honestly no. I have watched Isaiah play on four or five occasions and him not getting solid P5 interest really surprises me but FUMA does really good work. My fraternity brother is the head coach of their Prep program although Isaiah will be in the Post Grad program but should be able to get his take on him soon.
Let's go!!
HOKIES!!!
Sweet! Send him Hardees coupons ASAP, let's start that 15 lbs gain immediately!
Gaining 15 lbs was pretty standard for most Freshmen at VT once you got there.
Sure, but we want his 15 to be muscle.
I gained 30 pounds strictly from eating 4 rotisserie chicken legs and 4 glasses of 2% milk at D2 twice a day.
I feel sorry for your dorm mates and the bathroom situation. 8 glasses of milk a day?
I actually lost weight my freshman year because of being away from my girlfriend who was at William & Mary. I gained 20 pounds my sophomore year because a little burger joint known as Five Guys opened up across from University Mall.
I never remembered any adverse effects... But there's was lots of beer consumed too, so all those bathroom bosses probably ran together.
5 Guys is solid... Especially back when a burger and fries didn't cost you your first born.
I think when it first opened in 2004 it cost about $12 and change for a regular burger, fries, and drink.
I lost like 20lbs be sure I just went to the gym for 4 hours everyday because I didn't have much else to do, and then I hyperextension my knee playing basketball in mccomas and was on crutches for a while and gained 35 lbs or so.
An EE major and you "didn't have much else to do"?!?!?!
Life isn't fair.
The secret to being an EE is that it's like 90% just math, no projects, so you just show up and do math. Also this was as a freshman.
So no EE classes, but you had Engineering Fundamentals and a full load of freshman classes geared towards engineering. I could see that being fairly easy IF you're good at math. Like really good. I am not really good at math. I kinda knew going in that I was going to *try* to be an engineer, and I would succeed IF I could handle the math. I knew I wanted to do materials science and focus on metallurgy and alloys, particularly the musical application of them.
I could not handle the math. I did decently well in my first semester of MSE classes as a sophomore, but scraping by with Cs in my math and physics classes. I was always so jealous of the kids who breezed through everything and had all of this "free time." My roommate was an Ag Econ major and played WoW all the time and made As in every class.
Honestly though, I found GIS through a friend's dad who is a retired industrial engineer, and busted ass to learn the ins and out of that world, which sort of came intuitively to me. And here I am, in my 16th(?) year of my pro career, chillin on TKP while a geoprocessing tool runs.
Oh I made Cs in math too, you have lots of free time if you don't do home work and just care about passing. Any class where tests are 70+ percent of your grade is a no homework class!
NCAA just approved a waiver to both men's and women's basketball to allow unlimited official visits due to the transfer portal environment.
Strong "There go the people. I must follow them, for I am their leader." vibes
So to add to unlimited free agency, pay for play, lax eligibility rules, we now have a vehicle for rampant tampering. No guardrails.

Why did VT offer him twice :).. comma's people, comma's
Um...
I don't know what you're problem is, the people of my main man Comma are some of the best folk you'll ever meet.
This is precisely why I don't grammar police on the internets. English is so weird and there are so many things that break rules that one is almost guaranteed to make an error that someone else can point to and laugh.
For me it is easy to avoid critiquing, my high school had the worst grammar/English program in the state that I grew up in. I can spell, but grammar is more work.

Kids a junior, might start growing out instead of up. Put him on the OL meal plan
I saw and talked to CMY yesterday while in the Charlotte airport. I mentioned I was on my way to San Antonio and he mentioned that he was pretty sure the Final Four is going to be there next year. So we basically parted ways and left the conversation with "see you in San Antonio next year".
He sounded pretty confident. Book it.
I assume you guys made dinner plans for next year in San Antonio. Because you can take any All-American in the country and put him on Virginia Tech's roster, and we still ain't making the Final Four next season.
I love Mike Young, but like the rest of us he'll need to buy a ticket for the Final Four next year.
Buzz kill.
NCST was garbage through February. Anyone can make it.
Quasi Hokies... VCU senior Joe Bamisile withdrew from the draft and is returning for last eligible year....

Really expect this to be Hokies or Terps. Think Michigan State is just window dressing.
Last significant athlete I remember out of South Lakes was Grant Hill.
Well, and Alan Webb, but basketball is bigger than cross-country.
Hey now, let's not forget our own Maija Louko who just wrapped up her senior season with VT softball is a South Lakes grad - I would point out to my daughter all the time that she was a local northern Virginia product.
Why do you think MSU is window dressing? If he's a top 50 player, they could easily be in play.
Comments I saw about his unofficial visit and other posts seem to have him leaning towards playing closer to home. Terps are selling him on being a Legacy play so will be interesting to see how that plays out.
ummm didn't his dad go to Miami?
