A fundamentally sound player in all aspects of the game, Schutt is a prospect who can really shoot the basketball. He has good size for the two-guard position and maybe the best shooter in his class. He is a knock down shooter who is comfortable and confident making shots coming off pindowns or staggers. Whether off balance or when his feet are set, opponents are likely to grab the ball out of the net on most of his attempts. Schutt really shows impressive footwork when utilizing the rhythm dribble, spotting up, and moving without the ball. He may not be the most quick or athletic prospect but Schutt is tough, smart, and projects as the ideal zone buster for a high major program that prioritizes the deep ball.
Sounds like a perfect fit in Young's offense. Has 4 3 years of eligibility still after redshirting this year.

Let's go!
Hokies!
I'm cautiously getting optimistic
Optimism is a choice, man.
I do wonder if we are upgrading our roster, treading water, or falling off.
I have no idea if this many new additions will fully mesh in one year or even make a good team next season. But no doubt, CMY has significantly upgraded the athleticism and potential of this roster compared to last year.
Based on 247 rankings, no.
Isn't Poteat staying?
Withdrew from the portal is what I read.
Summary of the transfer portal according to 247 rankings and On3 rankings.
The data:
Five outgoing transfers :
Five incoming transfers :
The ratings shown are an average of 247 and On3. Generally, On3 had higher ratings for the incoming transfers as compared to 247; and 247 had higher ratings for the outgoing transfers as compared to On3. So, if you look at 247 only, VT did very poorly in portal and if you look at On3 only, VT did OK.
247 team ranks has VT 57th overall and 10th in the ACC. 247 team rankings are based on incoming transfers only.
On3 team ranks has VT 66th in P4 and 15th in the ACC. On3 team rankings are based on incoming and outgoing transfers. This ranking includes 7 outgoing (Poteat and Rice) and only 4 incoming (not yet updated for Schutt).
*Camden was not ranked by On3.
Note: The summary data provided did not include Rodney Rice (did not play in 2023). Rice is rated 91 by both 247 and On3. Both 247 and On3 list Poteat as transferring out, but he did declare that he is returning. Poteat is rated an 80 by 247 and unrated by On3.
Love the data backed response, Thank you!!!
Seems like mostly a wash as far as overall talent goes (.4 difference), but a much bigger focus on the big men? Which seems to fit CMY's system (thinking back to Shelton's article on the CMY power fowards of the past)
I think a more nuanced assessment suggests that VT outgoing is weighed down a bit by Camden. VT losing two high-level starters in Pedulla and Kidd and gaining talent at the level of Collins and Nickel.
Add in the loss of Cattoor and to a certain extent Beran, VT looks to be a step down talent wise. And the loss in talent probably will not going to be recouped via recruits or development players.
If the rankings are accurate, VT's top-end talent is lower.
Agree with the comparison made without Rice. He checked out before the season, so he was a zero for the past season.
Seems on paper as essentially replacing a mediocre team with another mediocre team. Though one never knows how they mesh and play together. Maybe the replacement team can not give away as many wins as last year's team did. Going with optimism until proven wrong.
The only thing that matters is march. We need to get into the tourney. We beat NC State like a drum last year and they got hot and played in the final four for the first time since Valvano. That's what we need- juice around the program. We need to get some quality wins early in the year and hold our own in Febuary/Early March. Can't get swept by Miami and Pitt, etc. Get in the dance- that's all that matters. Don't lose any Q3/4 games, win some mid acc games- that's what UVA did last year and they got in. Totally mid. March is the key- all that matters.
Since this is pro ball now, one can infer perhaps that he did not demand the salary of Pedulla or Nickel. So to make a pro sports analogy, he's cheaper. Those guys usually aren't as good in the pros.
Rebuild the roster through the transfer portal. Get excited about all the new additions. Watch CMY's team rip off a couple of early season wins. Subsequently watch CMY's team struggle through the ACC part of the season. Hope for a run (something a CMY team can do). Lose significant parts of the team following the season.
Rinse. Repeat.
I'm not sure how many quality transfers we need in order to actually be a good basketball team as the system isn't conducive for quick "meshing". I'll remain optimistic, but cautiously so.
This is the 2024 college basketball world, so this just means he can play for 3 more schools after playing for us next season, right?
Newspaper says he has 3 years remaining eligibility.
This seems more likely. Played sparingly in 22-23; missing 23-24 due to injury, so redshirt. 3 years left. Pretty sure he does not have unlimited years, but one never knows.
In 2024, I'm not even sure it's safe to assume he plays for us until he is physically on the court in uniform.
And maybe not even then π€£ππ
Yes, you can transfer unlimited times for no particular reason without having to sit out now. Not joking.
So, this guy is a Schutter?
Looking forward to the announcers' puns: "He's Schutt..... he scores!"
Ends the game with a dagger 3: "That Schutts the door on any chance of a comeback now"
"Schutt! There it is"
Take your legs... grumble.
I was hoping for a Schutt-down defender.
His favorite movie quote is "Schutt her!"
Am I doing this right?
Not just committed, but he signed the paperwork, apparently
sounds like he's really got his Schutt together
At least this one didn't have the typo that Ben Hammonds did.
They originally posted it with the caption
"An elite PG for an Elite HS program"
They went back and corrected it to
"An elite PG from an Elite HS program"
So there's like a lien on his parents' house if he backs out, right?
