I'm sitting here watching a couple athletes run track. Whit, we need to get on #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING track outfits. The singlets are predominantly orange, and my experience watching football tells me that MORE MAROON = MORE WINNING. MORE ORANGE = MORE NOT WINNING.

I approve of this much more than what our ladies wore tonight. Orange singlet, maroon shorts. Like, don't get me wrong, it didn't look terrible, but it just didn't look like VT sports. It looked like Oklahoma State sports.
all hail the queen
Coach Cianelli always told me that he disliked orange uniforms. From 2004-2008 we have a couple versions that were white and maroon. My senior year, though we got new ones with an orange stripe down the site that I thought were pretty sweet. I framed the singlet and have it on the wall in my office.
Great picture.
You look strong, like you're starting your kick and making your move. Dukie guy looks gassed.
And uva dude looks like he's eating your dust.
It's the sunglasses.
#SOMUCHSWAG
No matter where you finished, you're ahead of the Boohoohoo. And that's what counts.
That right there is a nice uniform. What distance?
1500m. I pretty much stuck to the mile and the 800.
I was gonna say. You look strong like a mid distance guy.
In high school, I ran the 1600 and 3200. I wasn't ever great and I peaked as a sophomore (5:31 & 11:57 respectively) when I finished #15 at the Region C meet in the 3200m. I regularly had a state champion competing against me along with 3 or 4 of his team mates that got to train against him (I on the other hand jokingly described my team as 4 girls, a guy & a handicapped bus), so I had a total of two wins my entire high school career, both at meets that PHHS didn't attend.
that is pretty much where I was my sophomore year in high school. I ran a 20:05 5k in cross and on the track I was about 5:10 for the 1600. I ran for Midlothian and the team was pretty deep so I got my butt kicked regularly!
Distance runners in the house! I was also a 16/32 guy in high school. I thought I was pretty decent, but then I raced against the likes of Matt Tebo and Shadrack Kiptoo, and now I don't.
Edit: Posting my PRs since this is a track thread now
5K: 16:58
3200: 10:13
1600: 4:41
love how this is turning into a distance runners thread. any other track people out there? post up your events and PRs!
I also did a mini-triathlon about a year after I graduated. It was a 10K run, 3K canoe/kayak, and 20K mountain bike. I didn't really train at all for it, but my youth pastor, a coach I had for 2 sports in high school (DC/WR/DB coach for football & basketball assistant) and two married doctors that go to church with were doing it so I joined in. I don't remember my time, just that it was under three hours, that my leg started cramping at the end of the run so I was glad for the chance to rest it in the kayak, and that we finished: Lady Doctor, Male Doctor, Youth Pastor, Me, Coach. I finished the run ahead of the Youth Pastor.
High school pole vaulter from 1976 - 1978. Personal Best was 13 ft. Bayside High (Va beach). Our track team back then was State Champ contenders for several years and we won VA AAA Indoor State Championship in Winter 1978. Our coach was great, his name was Len Greenwood. He taught me a lot.
I ran a mile once
Me too. Nearly killed me. I think I'll stick to browsing TKP on the computer all day.
5k, 8k, and 10k here. 16:20, 27:54, 35:10. I am not a fast man.
2:04 for the 800, only like 16 seconds off of @BilldozerVT's best
26 off my 800. Have I mentioned I am not a fast man? My 800 time is a legitimate point of shame for me. I'm actually fully confident that I've run faster in the last 800m of a 10k than the last 800m of an 800.
I have a nit to pick... and this might not go over very well here, so please don't downvote me too much.
I hate the whole ONLY MAROON mindset. Our school colors are Maroon and Orange, not Maroon and white. Our identity is maroon AND orange, its what makes us who we are. We are not Texas A&M or Mississippi State, so stop trying to turn us into them.
/rant over... steps off soapbox
Fair enough. I, for one, do like seeing some orange on the uniform. Maybe even orange pants. I love #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING, but there's a time and place for that.
I don't like the old school stripes on the shoulders though. I've grown tired of that jersey
I like Maroon as the main color on on uniforms with orange and white included in the design. To jump to football on a track thread, like HoaT, I dislike the striped shoulder look. My favorite uniform style we've had were the 08-09 uniforms. They had enough orange on the all maroon to still be distinctly VT.
I didn't even hate the Orange uniforms in this iteration, because they still had a good balance of Maroon included.
My one complaint would be the typeface used for the numbering, the angles are too sharp. If they were to pull the numbering typeface from the 2004-2007 uniforms (My second favorite uniform style) and use it with the 08-09 uniforms, it would be a great look.
Great pics for the uniform examples but you should have used one of Darren Evans trucking the Maryland guy in the 08 game, I loved Chris Fowlers reaction
I just did a quick google search for pics and picked some of the better examples I came across.
Leg for fearless statement of opinion on a topic close to the hearts of many on here. I personally love #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING. To me, if we're playing at home at night, being in #AME is awesome. I do agree with you, in most other cases, that we should incorporate more Orange. I don't particularly care for it as a primary color but I would like to see it featured more as an accent. Ultimately, we don't make the decisions on that so discussing it is kind of moot. I don't know who decides what our uniforms will be each season but I'm hoping it changes. I've been less than pleased with a majority of our UNI combos over the last several seasons.
I agree completely. We need to look like us. Which is why I brought it up. The distance team looked like Oklahoma State out there. Like seriously. The only difference between the two outfits was that the shorts were maroon instead of black, and in a long distance uniform, that is not noticeable at all.
400, and 800, then 1600 and cross-country in high school.
Then a sporadic and unspectacular career with 5 and 10K's until my shin splints/stress fx's got the best of me.
Then on to the wonderful world of kayaking and mountain biking.......
The only reason I run is to try and keep the beer weight off. Emphasis on try because it hasn't been too effective.
