If he can move, at that size, he should be a safety. If he can't move, then nickel is out, and he's not quite what I'd want to see for linebacker weight.

Are all of these are different positions for the strong side defender?
Each one of those, save Big Nickel, have slightly different roles.
Nickel: 5th DB on the field primarily in pass coverage, usually vs slot; does not have to be strong side
Star: hybrid safety/olb that operates close to the line of scrimmage and can play against the run as well as against the slot WR usually, but not exclusively strong side
Sam: exclusively strong side outside linebacker
Star is just Sam renamed

I wouldn't exactly call it a trade since Canteen left beforehand for more playing time that he wasn't going to get here. It was filling a vacancy with the best available body - hopefully it works out.
