NCAA approves corporate advertisements to be placed on college football fields this fall: an advertisement centered on the 50 & no more than 2 smaller flanking advertisements elsewhere on the field. This can be done on a game-by-game basis or entire season— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) June 6, 2024
Who do we expect to see on Worsham field this year? Surely it has to be Smithfield. Let's see the photoshops!

Carillion!
VT should digitally add ads to the broadcast so that they can change throughout the game. Like a fancier yellow line. More advertisers that way.
Worsham Sprinkler Company
Frank Beamer Camp Sauce
Was I the only person to read "It's a Marinade" in Mario's voice?
I really want us to reach out to Frank's Red Hot, there are a lot of possibilities there. Frank's Red Hot Red zone. Stick it in, stick it in, your food or whatever.
Budweiser and Foster's are obvious sponsors as well. Get 2 bottles up on the jumbotron like Heinz (RIPieces) and pour 'em out every 3rd down stop.
Vick's vaporrub, Smith's landing, just a picture of bam bam from the Flintstones. A drone racing league?
Stick it in, Stick it in, sponsored by OnlyFans.
You want NIL money? That's the way to get it.
Don't remember where I heard this, but some Hokie told me a while back about the Bud Foster drink. Take a pint glass and pour half Budweiser, half Fosters. Drop a shot of Wild Turkey in it and bottoms up.
Sounds terrible tbh
Bud Foster drink. Take a pint glass and pour half Budweiser, half Fosters. Drop a shot of Wild Turkey in it and bottoms up.
This drink is for the defense
I read this at first as Frank Beamer's Sauce Camp. And I thought, holy shit I would attend a week long camp with Frank somewhere in the country cooking up BBQ sauce.
Spurtle!
When advertising on the ACC network just isn't enough, I suppose they should buy some on-field presence.
Panhandling continues shamelessly- and this just in - the field already has a corporate name.
Better see some Carol Lee ads...
Let's go big and get an Amazon ad with our connection in Nova
Yes, if we need to beg for every last penny (even though schools already make billions off football and basketball according to Jay Bilas) - where is this money, BTW? that everyone keeps talking about? at any rate, yes- go big (amazon) or go home ( a 1 year deal with Carol Lee)
Well you see, the thing about money being a differentiator in the sport is that it could never hurt to have more. Making billions doesn't prohibit anyone from chasing millions.
Or in Tech's case, making millions doesn't prohibit us from chasing thousands
Oh but of course. In order to survive and not go under, the New York Yankees needed to add Stifel patches to their venerable classic jerseys and ads on their field and pitching mound. They were hurting for money of course. What is puzzling is that they didn't beg for it in the form of donations to their fans.
for the life of me, i do not understand how you can simultaneously be upset about sponsor patches and field logos and perpetually upset about the Nike uniforms and apparel contract being too small
I believe it's called cognitive dissonance :p
I am a virginia tech fan. I am not a UNC or Duke or Michigan fan. I am a virginia tech fan. So I do in fact get pissed about my school getting ripped off by Nike in a big way yes. I don't know why you can't understand that? Getting ripped off by Nike with a deal less than WVU, UVA, on and on is a separate issue than the multi billion dollar yankees whoring for 25 mil a year in ad patches on the holy pin stripes. No beards remember. The yankees- the most classy, the best... 25 mil a year ads on the sleeves.
nice edit to fact check yourself on that! $25m isn't nothing.
it's not really a separate issue at all, though, is it -- it all distills down to maximizing available revenue stream and finding new avenues of monetization, whether it's from sponsored logos on the field or via an apparel deal.
is your issue that you don't like donating to the athletic department when they're also bringing in sponsorship money?
My original figure was the D Backs deal I read and got confused. 25M is a small fraction of their annual payroll. It is chump change to the yankees- yes whether you agree or not- its nothing to them. These pro sports teams make billions from TV contracts, they charge you 15 dollars for a beer, and 50 dollars to park and yet they need ad patches on their sleeves- because - yeah every last dime. Let's see if Kroger field at Lane Stadium at Worhsam place will make a dent. Let's see what they sell it for. Will it make a difference in paying Faheem Delane? I have my doubts... It will more likely be a modest lame money grab with no impact on getting players that commit to Clemson. But I could be wrong.
Faheem Delane already committed to Ohio State.
8% of payroll doesnt sound like much until you realize that the $25m pays for the entire bullpen staff with some to spare.
Money is money and there's a reason billionaires avoid taxes left and right -- having more of it relative to everyone else is better than having less of it.
This seems oddly reductive and nihilistic, especially coming from you. Inconsistencies aside, I don't understand why DC gets such a hard time for his complaints about the extreme commoditization of sports in America. At some point it gets down to values and it just seems to me that DC is expressing dissatisfaction with modern sports emphasizing profit maximization at the expense of the social contract with fans.
how many comments have we gotten over the years about being a small potatoes athletic department who doesn't understand how to play in the big leagues and maybe doesn't even want to.
Want a bigger support staff? Get more revenue. Want to give the coaching staff a raise to ward off poaching programs? Get more revenue. Want better facilities (this is overblown imo, a point on which i strongly agree with DC)? Get more revenue. Is it nihilistic or is it reality? How much of the larger discussion has been about being left behind relative to our peer-tier P5 (now P4!) teams (from other other conferences especially!) and in the broader landscape of the collegiate sports?
I understand the frustration with increasing the revenue streams while also simultaneously asking for more donations -- but the flip side is that the revenue doesn't care where it comes from to be spent and a bigger pie means more to spend.
if you want to compete at a high level, it's silly to leave money on the table.
in terms of extreme commoditization of sports, i have a lot of thoughts that probably would violate CGs to express. so i won't go there.
Coleman Hawkins just signed with Kansas State hoops for 1 year - 2 million. The average NBA rookie salary is $953,000. When K State hoops puts fucking Loves truck stop patches on their jersey's this year, you can see my cynicism fucking miles away. Also clearly Hawkins was being "exploited" at Illinois, as he is entitled to 2 million as a 20 year old non-pro in America.
I saw someone suggest Smithfield bacon wrapped redzones on twitter and that's the idea I'm here for.
Instead of having poles for the uprights, replace the poles with a large rectangle going up each side with SMITHFIELD on 1 upright and BACON on the other. And if the visiting team misses 2 FG's in the second half, free bacon for everybody!
Bacon flags...they already look like it.
Any Beamerball play = free bacon
I came here to post something similar - paint the end zones like a big strip of bacon
Buy a 1 sq ft of field in the end zone.
Call that small patch "Smith Field".
I'm disappointed in the lack of up-votes on this
Grit Coffee
I'll get into a bidding war to have that or anything else associated with the previous regime NOT to be placed on the field.
Despite my above post, I hope we keep it minimal. I'm interested to see if the bowl game fields get wild.
that tony the tiger bowl better be a full on tiger pattern field with cereal bowls
At which Tiger stadium?
This is the kind of shit that convinces me that people totally missed the point of Idiocracy.
It's got what plants crave.
Available right now with your HULU subscription.
Also, we have the B18 (baitin') conference now.
Brought to you by Carl's Jr
I'm pretty sure the point of it is that we're doomed because the people smart enough to get the point don't exist any more so we all go down the dumbest path.
Everyone got degrees from Costco, right? I wonder what their college football team looked like.
Hmm, a diploma mill with a football team...sounds a lot like Liberty
Southern XXXposure
The first time I heard about this place.....
Heard about it... You haven't been?
So many amendments I can choose here....
Spurtle?
Drink.
What is a spurtle?
You must be new around here!
He must have somehow avoided the ACC Network.
On field advertising is limited, but why not fly drones in and out sporting some sort of ad. It can be sponsored by the QB1 for extra NIL and be called Drones' Drones.
You had to do it, didn't you....
I once saw a banner flown behind a plane at the HS I taught at. It said, no shit, "CAN'T READ? CALL 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX" Like, seriously?
Or allow everyone to bring their own drones to fly since paper airplanes kind of died away after the elimination of programs and paper tickets.
I can feel Fireman's eye twitching.

We also might be getting the Allstate XII Conference https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf/big-12-conference-allstate-discussio... . I would really enjoy the irony of keeping 12 in that name until the ACC was rebranded to the Spurtle Atlantic Conference.
If there is one thing the VT defense should be associated with, it would be the SAC.
Wouldn't TAC be more apropos for defense? SAC is an offensive air command./s
I was thinking SAC(K).
Ah- OK-mea culpa. My parents were both in the USAF(dad a career officer) so my mind went there automatically.
We could be the Allstate Coastal Conference and be geographically vague for future expansion and not change the logos!
