Jeff Overton Commits to the Hokies

Got another one!

Supposedly just got a ratings bump. People seem to think there should be more.

Boom! The need for speed!!

Should be a low to mid 4 star. The last two 5-star running backs out of VA were Gatorade players of the year. So is Jeff, and he has the same stats as them at the same level of competition. The reason I say low to mid 4 star is because, in most of his highlights, it's just him blowing by everyone, so we don't really get to see all of what he can do. Which isn't a bad thing lol. He also had serious offers from schools like OSU and Oregon. Great get. Welcome aboard Jeff!

Yes. 100% yes. Why? This kid can play, is from VA and is not the dart board fuente RB approach.

Dude had a massive offer list. It feels great to hold off some of the thorns in our sides for in-state recruits (i.e. South Carolina, MD, and Penn State).

So...it sounds like you're choosing to be excited about this news?

re: the ratings bump -- 247 moved him from 86 to 87 today. On3 has him at 88

composite is 0.87 -- hopefully he has a great senior year and jumps even higher

Yeah it feels odd for anOSU and Oregon to recruit a 3* back from VA. I think lots of coaches know what's up.

This dude is a baller, better than his rating for sure. Very excited about this pickup

Lfg!!

I saw Jeff Overton make an ace at Congressional during a 2011 US Open practice round

Superior, underrated post. great job!

A couple of quick observations:

1. Whoever the cameraman is on his HUDL videos needs to be fired ASAP. Take your dramamine if you get motion sick.

2. Good sized RB with a frame that could carry a few more LBs.

3. He seems to plant his foot, make his decision, and get downhill fast. He has good vision and runs strong. Rarely gets brought down on first contact.

4. Looks like he has good speed, especially when he turns on the jets once he gets away from the LOS. It seem like most of the secondary players who have opportunities to chase him down underestimate his speed - i.e. they don't take great angles at him.

5. He seems to have really good balance as a runner even though he runs "tall".

Sometimes it is difficult to project these skill players as there are so many variables at the HS level that allow them to be dominate. However I do think this is a quality prospect for our RB room. I suspect there will be other suitors as his senior season gets underway and his ratings go up. This is a really solid prospect IMO. Again, Pry is working to elevate the floor of our roster at every position.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I haven't watched his film. Somewhere I saw a Suggs comparison. I'd love for that to be right.

He definitely has some Lee Suggs vibes about him.

Is coronavirus over yet?

I see some Suggs but even more so his film reminds me of Branden Ore....

One of the bigger "oh, what could have been," of Hokie Football.

He was just there to buy some rims

I'm all for running backs that can carry linebackers!

I read it the exact same way

Same!

Well, he's a lot bigger than our last Overton running back (who was 5'-5", 150)

More of this please:

I still remember sitting in the East Stands on Thursday Night and RmfW truck sticking the Maryland player and the crack heard throughout the stadium.

Think you mean Darren Evans? But yes the point stands

Definitely was Evans - here's the crap quality 15 year old video

It was amazing seeing that in person. You could hear the pads crack combined with the fan reaction 🤌🤌

I wasn't present for Darren Evans, but Wayne Ward. Good God.

I think Kyle Kayden is still trying to get up off the Lane turf right this very moment.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Why anyone wouldn't think those are unquestionably the best uniforms Virginia Tech has ever worn is beyond my comprehension.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

Waiting for the reveal....

Not to belabor the point, this is where it's at!

At this point I'm convinced we aren't getting any

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

We are, but temper your expectations. I am 99.9% certain the pants are what we have now- no stripes- just maroon, white, orange plain pants. So no change there. The jersey will be new, and apparently we- not Nike- do the helmets, so what we are getting is new jerseys. OK.

I am sure the reactions will be measured.

I don't care what we're wearing as long as we're winning.

Always interesting how so many of the old highlights would be penalties today (no shade thats just how the game was)

Danny is always open

I'd guess the large majority of them would be.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

So I've been reading research for football injuries and I can't find good data that the changes made have improve the number of injuries. What I did find is that men 18 and over are only 10% of football injuries. So really the high schools level needs a lot more safety. And honestly, just a guess, better coaching since over 50% of concussions at the high school level occur in practice.

I would love to see if the rules actually helped the game or are the over reactions to certain plays or players. I am all for making the game safer, but it should be backed up by data not emotions. The heat stroke rules in Georgia high school were based off an actual study and scientific reco.mendations and has data backing up how good the change has been. I don't feel the same for the Roy Williams rule, or removing the wedge in kick offs.

What a lot of folks forget is that Evans demolished Terrell Skinner, who was good enough to get a cup of coffee with the Colts - so it wasn't some complete scrub who was just in for a play.

I was there. It was glorious.

ah you're right, DmfE

The thing that made RMFW so great wasn't his speed (he actually ran a slow 40 at the combine), it was his vision, strength, and most of all his shear will power to be better than the man trying to tackle him. He had great vision and even better balance and agility. It was those first couple of steps that separated him from his counterparts. Only Tuten has matched that since, with more elite speed to boot. I think the staff is really working hard to find the right kind of guys.

Is coronavirus over yet?

RMFW reference opens up in my mind that horrible run of luck we had with great backs getring injured either in college or nfl. You have to think the injury to evans and then injury to rw helped them each decide to go pro earlier... and then injuries in nfl ruined their careers too... nevermind how many other promising backs got hurt through those years

Danny is always open

What is depressing is that Josh Oglesby would have easily been the best back for any Fuente team by far. And he was buried on our depth chart then.

Khalil Herbert might have something to say about that

I will choose to be excited about this news.

I'm glad Pry is shifting the overton window of what to expect for Virginia tech recruiting.

Dangit you beat me to it.

Every second counts

Great pick up. Best running back in the state.

Wait, what? Did that say 44 TDs just this past season, which would be his Junior year? Holy crap!

Holy video stabilizer software, Batman!

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Our defense is going to be gassed if he breaks that many long runs!

Hokies, for the win!
