Went into their state and got their guy. Huge get for the staff and a big pull the staff to get him to commit over the in state schools.

Virginia Tech is now Wide Receiver U?!
Go Hokies!!!
Lol, was just about to post that!
Hopefully he is elusive to DBs as Snook are when I fish for them. Snook are dang smart!
Big win on the trail. WR room continues to look stacked for the future.
Is this what this insta vid is in reference too?
We're going gonna have to run the air raid with all of this WR talent! Mines is doing some incredible work on the trail.
LETS GO!!!
HOKIES!!
Hokies!
Edit: I'm already day drinking on vacation.
Perfect! Cheers!

Me too, but not on vacation. Unless retirement is considered a permanent vacation.
Waiting for it...
I can't speak for anyone else, but _I_ elect to be excited about this news.
Good size on this kid, Mines definitely filling up the room knowing he's got a lot of talent graduating next year.
This was my worry earlier on for the 2025 season with Jennings, Felton, and Lane all moving on after this year. Like Evans back in 2016, Drones still could come back next year but I think with said WR's leaving, I wouldn't be surprised if he tries his luck in NFL (assuming he has good year) or hit portal knowing the drop off in experience at WR (and RB/Tuten). Either way, it's nice to see that though QB may be an unknown commodity going into 2025 season, WR room *shouldn't* be too much of a worry going into 2025 and beyond.
But a lot can happen a year from now... Either way... that blank checkbook should/will be opening up for Mines very soon again even after the recent promotion/pay raise.
It's funny because Evans leaving in 2016 would be very similar to Drones trying to leave after this season. Similarly the knock against Drones is that he's a 1st or 2nd read guy. Can he improve enough in one season to get on some draft boards? Maybe, and I hope so because it will take our offense to the next level.
Luckily if Drones decides to head to the NFL, we should be a very attractive spot for transfer portal QB's with all of the WR talent we're stocked up with
The "game" is different now.
If Drones has a great season, he will still not be a top tier NFL QB prospect IMO. I'm not suggesting he won't ever find a place in the NFL, but there are many more polished QBs out there.
But the NFL wouldn't be his only option. If he has a crazy year this year it's very possible someone comes calling to the tune of $2-$3 million for a single year. That is something I would imagine anyone would jump at. I'm going to enjoy him being a Hokie this season without any expectations for next season.
Yeah 100%. I actually meant him leaving after last season would be comparable to Evans. If he leaves after this season it would make more sense but he will likely still need to improve as a passer
Right in their state. One might say we.... snookered them!
Interesting how nc state insiders on 247 put in CBs for nc state as recently as 4 days ago... Great to have him on board!
That is sweet.
Elite name. An all-important measurable.
I knew VT was in the finals, but i wouldve thought the signing of two 4-stars in 2024 and two 4-star commits for 2025 would have had him look elsewhere.
Can you trade prospects like in baseball? WR is stacked and VT could use some blue chips in other positions. I wonder if they all stick at WR or if some may flip to the defensive side.
Need more blue chip DBs. I know Ohio State has a good WR room, but damn Faheem you'd get a pretty good workout from the Mines room.
WR room goin crazy
Staff likes him the most out of any WR commits this class (the order would surprise you) and think he'll be the most talented of the young receivers when he gets to campus. Yes, more than Brodie
Is it just me or does it feel like VT is starting to figure things out in recruiting. We seem to be hitting 4* players at a clip that we haven't hit since we were in our prime.
There was one guy on Fuente's Memphis staff he brought here that had P5 recruiting was Vice. Contrast with Pry watching how Franklin did it at a big time school. Pry knows how to fish in these waters. Fuente was learning on the job. Also at the end of Beamers tenture- 1. He was ailing physically, 2. we were losing to maryland and Wake, and 3. Dabo and others were shit talking Beamer and Foster indicating Foster wouldn't be around either. Pry is fixing that nonsense.
Him and Jayden Anderson as far as pure WR's...are legit.
Staff agrees
Um, did I hear him say "and basketball?"
You sure did at the 1:25 mark... Great Get Mines!
WOOOO Let's goooooooo
Also, yes, definitely one for the all-name team.
Dude, are we going to become a pass happy offense? Lol, the way we're snagging these 4 star WR's is insane! Two years ago who thought this position would be so deep and continuing to get deeper...give Fontel Mines all the raises.
All due respect to Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips, who were great in their own right, but all those receiving records might be in jeopardy the next 5 years
Boykin's XXL gloves may be the only record left to break
Tall, lanky kid with some great upside. "Snook" gives off some serious Tre Turner vibes. Smooth runner with very little wasted energy. Long strides away from the opposition with relative ease. Excellent ball skills - the kid catches everything thrown his way regardless of how tight the window is and regardless of how he needs to contort his body to make the catch.
His route running leaves a lot to be desired, but we say this about almost every high school WR. That will be a bit of a curve for him, but again, he has outstanding body control so he should be able to train himself to get in and out of his breaks well.
All in all another great addition to the WR room. Now we need someone to step up or step in when Drones hits the road so these guys can get the action they deserve.
Doesn't Drones have another year of eligibility? Does everyone know something about him leaving after this year? Why wouldn't he stay if he doesn't go in the draft?
Yes, he's a RS junior so he has another year after this season. Jennings, Lane, and Felton are grad students so this should be their last year and that might be a reason he looks elsewhere for next season.
Smh why even bring up that possibility when he's never even come close to alluding that could be an option
Fontell just said these receivers are "Mines"......
you can say that again...
Fontell just said these receivers are "Mines"......
This is great news. Now we need the QBs to take the next step and the OL to become solid.
