Football Captains announced (all 7 of them)

Interesting that Brumfield made captain in his short time here - not a whole bunch of surprises otherwise. Seven seems like a whole lot of captains

Wasn't Jennings a captain last year?

We put the K in Kwality

Nope but we also had 7 last year:

No. Name Position Year
3 Norell Pollard DL Sr.
5 Nasir Peoples S r-Sr.
6 Josh Fuga DL r-Sr.
6 Grant Wells QB r-Sr.
68 Kaden Moore OL r-Jr.
85 Peter Moore P r-Jr.
86 Nick Gallo TE Sr.

Do the players select the captains or is it the coaches? If it is the players, that certainly says a lot a Brumfield getting the nod in such a short time with the team.

I feel like this was spoken to at one time and it is a player decision with coach input but I might be remembering that wrong

So long as the stupid "C" is not a patch on our clean new uni's, I'm cool with whomever is captain. Fuente had that nonsense on the jerseys- and shocker it looked cheap and out of place.

What if it's a cool C?

It never is. Even the square NFL C patches are forced and don't match well. I love when Joe Gibbs came back to the redskins- yeah we aren't doing the patches. lol.

I would go ahead and suspect that we're going to have C patches still, we had them last year and there's nothing to expect that that's going to change.

Cool- maybe they won't match the uni's and look awful again.

The C has to be understated and fit the design motif. Bigger isn't always better. It's not tits.

Team captain is 100% internal. It has nothing to do with playing in an actual game or vs. an opponent- it's not like your special teams captain decides to defer or not- that's the coaches decision. Your WR captain doesn't get to overrule the play. It's internal, its leaders on the team, its a dynamic. Since it has nothing to do with the actual game, I don't see the need to advertise it.

Although I largely agree with your point, there are some sports where it's important to identify the captain. In soccer, for instance, in some tournaments there are rules stating that only the captain is allowed to discuss things with the ref. In that case, the ref needs to know who the designated captain is for each team, thus, the arm band.

That said, I'm not aware of any real reason that anyone needs to know who the captains are in college football (for that matter, why do we need more than one, let alone 7?).

I would be perfectly fine with the captains not having any distinctive features added to their uniforms. I don't see the need for it.

Onward and upward

Having 7 captains makes sense for a team of 120 players (I'm counting practice squad here) because that's a 17:1 ratio putting it on par with soccer.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I don't think it's the ratio that determines how many captains should be on the team. How many captains does an aircraft carrier have?

I think it makes sense to have a captain for each unit. Having so many captains kind of takes away from the value of being captain, imo.

Onward and upward

FWIW it looks like they went with captain for position group. Line, backfield, and skill players on offense and defense + specialists

Way less than the number of captains on a space base.

On a similar note, sometimes in football that was sort of an unwritten rule. Some refs would discuss a bit more with you than others if they knew you were a team captain.

Other refs would use it as an informal way to police things they thought were getting out of hand without impacting the game. "Hey Captain, number 57 over there is running a little hot. Need you to calm him down for me so y'all don't get flagged for an unsportsmanlike penalty" - I always liked it when refs took that approach. Give players a chance to correct it themselves before you step in

C is for Cookie. It's good enough for me.

That's what I remember, but I couldn't find Pry's quote on it.

(Note, I sure hope Brumfield lives up to the hype. I want so badly to be wrong. I don't want to spend the whole season writing about garbage basic linebacker fits.

My cousin hosted a "Captains Party" one time. Hysterical idea. Both of these legends made an appearance.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.
