my gut is telling me this is more about Florida State's offense not being what it was last year..
but that's a tough call with it being a conference foe for an opener. those are never easy... still though, I'd say DjU is not up to snuff and FSUs offense isn't as lethal...
edit: not to discredit Georgia tech, definitely an improved team on the up and up.

Def think FSU is taking a step back with DJU in there....that game felt like death by a thousand paper cuts. Proof positive that the ACC is wide open this year, but it doesn't help the perception of the conference.

GT is definitely better than I thought, but I think a lot of that fell on DJU just simply not being good. I dont recall him hitting any passes more than like 5 yards out.

GT looked solid, but FSU is definitely not a top 10 team.
It will be interesting to see how things develop over the course of the season but I am hopeful that both of those teams are middle of the pack or it doesn't say much for the conference

Pretty wild that Montana State was an 11.5 point favorite over Bronco Mendenhall's team. They spotted UNM 17 and are pulling it close as we're approaching halftime.

Poor FSU now gets the entire flight back from Ireland to mourn the state of their program bahaha. Bad timing for performance-based payouts to begin huh? Lol

Is this the same Bronco that resigned from UVA immediately after the '22 season to spend more time with his family, and is now coaching New Mexico? Did he need to get out of Charlottesville that badly?

Man, screw FSU. Whiners - trying winning before you self-annoint as better than the rest of the ACC. Oh also, you got turned down by the SEC and Big Ten. VT to SEC seems like a more and more real thing.

Weird stat: no college football team suing to leave its current conference has won its season opener in Ireland— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) August 24, 2024

The excuses have begun, because you know crossing the Atlantic = traveling around the world and apparently GT took a boat ride to Ireland.
Y'all ever had to throw footballs in a game while having jet lag after a plane ride around the world? Didn't think so— Barstool FSU (@FSU_Barstool) August 24, 2024

I don't know if it would have been more ACC for SMU to win or lose that game, but they belong in the conference.
Also, kind of surprised that Delaware St is hanging with Hawaii right now. I am guessing the Warriors pull away in the 2nd half since they've looked like the better team, but definitely didn't have Del St making a game of this one through 2.

I had 2 of their fans drinking some bullshit out of martini glasses make fun of me and a friend for having to spend all of our savings to get to Miami and brag about how the cross country trip was nothing for them.
Fuck that damn tree

norvell complained about possession and pacing, but that's feels like it was his game plan from the get go. It feels like he didn't have much faith in DiU (at least in downfield passing) and thought they could grind it out on the ground against GT. I'm not sure what's up with that highly touted d-line... GT powered through em..

Just watched the GT/F$U replay.
The warchant is definitely the most annoying thing in college football besides paul finebaum. Glad they were classy enough to keep doing it all the way through the final field goal as time expired, then....crickets.
There's a reason DJU struggled at clumpson and they passed on him. Nowhere near as good as advertised.
King on the other hand, looks shifty and can make throws on the move like Mahommes. Not gonna lie, the GT game just got a little scarier

Seems like these two wanna run
Glad we already have peak season ESPN missing the 2 point conversion
Espn is so back!
Unlike tha U
1 quarter into the season and I'm already sick of hearing the tomahawk chop
Georgia tech is looking pretty strong on offense AND defense right now against a highly regarded fsu.
Yea man, imo thats one of the three toughest games on our schedule. Very happy it's at home.
my gut is telling me this is more about Florida State's offense not being what it was last year..

Agree, think its pretty obvious they don't fully trust him to throw downfield.
He looks like a clear downgrade from what Jordan Travis gave them last year
This impressive stat completely agrees with you
gt for the lead
It looked like FSU was going to run away with it after that first drive. This is a very compelling game
GT making me nervous
Everyone makes me nervous until we prove otherwise.
Touche
What a freaking kick
That kick...
Forgive my ignorance, but why in god's name are these two teams playing in Ireland
I'm sorry, do Florida and Georgia not scream Ireland to you??? lol
Savannah does a mean St. Patrick's Day, or so I've heard. Maybe that's the connection?
GT has an Irish punter, duh.
And here I thought it was because they both have gold in their color schemes.
wait a minute you weren't just shitposting, he actually is
I don't care though, still ridiculous
dju ain't doing too hot
The QB play in this game is not impressive to this point. Neither offense looks like a top 25 team to me.
Interested in seeing if the running game from GT will wear down FSU in the 4th and be able to pull ahead late.
Florida State still looks hungover from last season
Could be hungover from last night too. Ireland will get after ya
They're in Ireland, it's likely they're still hungover from last night.
Forgive my ignorance, but the clock not stopping when the ball carrier goes out of bounds is new right?
It only stops during the last few minutes of the halves. But that 2 min warning timeout was news to me so what do I know
I think it's always stopped when going out of bounds in last 2 minutes.
2 minute warning new this season
Down goes free shoes u!
Dear F$U...thanks for continuing the narrative that the ACC doesn't matter on the big stage.
Nothing like getting beat by a team in the conference you think you are too good for. #Suckinoles
You said it so much better than I did
My first game as a GT student and they beat FSU 😂
Def think FSU is taking a step back with DJU in there....that game felt like death by a thousand paper cuts. Proof positive that the ACC is wide open this year, but it doesn't help the perception of the conference.
Not a fan of gt but even less a fan of fsu. Good to see them "chopped" down
GT is definitely better than I thought, but I think a lot of that fell on DJU just simply not being good. I dont recall him hitting any passes more than like 5 yards out.
He connected on a 4th and 7 and on a 4th and 8, which was impressive. Other than those two throws, I don't remember any either.
GT looked solid, but FSU is definitely not a top 10 team.
It will be interesting to see how things develop over the course of the season but I am hopeful that both of those teams are middle of the pack or it doesn't say much for the conference
Well that was fun. GT line play and run game looks scary. Haynes King's passing game looks better suited to Paul Johnson's offense.
It's the second coming.

what a way to start the college football season!!! Now lets follow that one up with (checks ESPN)...Montana State @ New Mexico
And don't sleep on Florida a&m v Norfolk st
Pretty wild that Montana State was an 11.5 point favorite over Bronco Mendenhall's team. They spotted UNM 17 and are pulling it close as we're approaching halftime.
The thin crowds have followed Bronco west. More points on the board than fans in the stands.
Uhhh go Noles...bahaha
Poor FSU now gets the entire flight back from Ireland to mourn the state of their program bahaha. Bad timing for performance-based payouts to begin huh? Lol
Can't wait for ESPN to spin this as 'ACC bad cuz top teams lose' as opposed to 'ACC deep cuz anyone can beat anyone'...like they do for the SEC/B1G
Nick Saban talking about the playoffs on gameday was basically them saying "it's not right if half the teams in the playoff aren't from the sec"
He was preemptively whining that the SEC isn't going to get enough teams in. GameDay is insufferable.
Georgia tech is on a 5 game winning streak against ranked ACC opponents
Imagine crying all off-season about how you're too good for the ACC only to lose to GT in your season opener LOL
I know, right?
The team that is too good for the ACC only manages 1 touchdown all game?
2. Opening drive and then one in the 4th quarter in which they needed two 4th and long conversions
If I'm not mistaken, they were double digit dog in all of those wins.
GHOSTS OF COASTAL CHAOS!
You can take the teams out of the Coastal, but you can't take the Coastal out of the teams!
ALL
COASTS
CHAOS
Wonder if F$U will withdraw their lawsuit tomorrow?
Hot take: Saban was horrible on game day. Low energy and seemed mad at everyone when they asked him a question.
Maybe he's supposed to be there to counter McAfee
Is this the same Bronco that resigned from UVA immediately after the '22 season to spend more time with his family, and is now coaching New Mexico? Did he need to get out of Charlottesville that badly?
I'd move time zones to try to escape the LOLuva football program, too.
Yeap, it's a dead end job
How To Blow A Win 101
Did he pass to an OT again?
Dropped passes on offense and forgot to play 2nd half defense
To an OT behind the line of scrimmage
That's a stunning choke job by Bronco's team
Bronco's team bucked again
Key has 5 wins against ranked opponents at GT. Norvell has 4 at FSU
Man, screw FSU. Whiners - trying winning before you self-annoint as better than the rest of the ACC. Oh also, you got turned down by the SEC and Big Ten. VT to SEC seems like a more and more real thing.
It does?
I mean, I'd love it, but I've seen nothing that suggests that the SEC wants to expand or that they are targeting VT?
Dont you know the more people talk about it online, the truer it must be
Well, SMU is certainly looking like a first week ACC team against an out of conference opponent early in this game.
SMU flying that #GoACC banner proudly so far
That's Robin Williams level funny
McMurphy burned their ass too
The excuses have begun, because you know crossing the Atlantic = traveling around the world and apparently GT took a boat ride to Ireland.
They aren't there to play school.
Hope FSU goes 0-12 this year. Whiniest fanbase ever. "But but...muh Bobby Bowden"

When I first saw this I assumed it was sarcastic and self deprecating, and I thought it was pretty funny.
But I guess it was serious?
Looks like the ACC gonna ACC
SMU would be running away with it if they were still in the AAC
oh no smu baby what is u doin
Somehow winning to avoid complete embarrassment, but still playing like they joined the ACC for free.
SMU controls their fate in Final two minutes. Let's see what they can do.
May have scored too early there. The wide receiver RJ Maryland putting on a show.
SMU gets out with the W
I don't know if it would have been more ACC for SMU to win or lose that game, but they belong in the conference.
Also, kind of surprised that Delaware St is hanging with Hawaii right now. I am guessing the Warriors pull away in the 2nd half since they've looked like the better team, but definitely didn't have Del St making a game of this one through 2.
Unfortunately Hawaii has been a crater ever since Todd Graham came through
Well, I guess we have one great addition to the conference
can't wait to see their bands antics
I am personally not a fan after our encounters with them at the 2011 Orange Bowl
Do tell. I don't remember feedback being negative around our game.
I had 2 of their fans drinking some bullshit out of martini glasses make fun of me and a friend for having to spend all of our savings to get to Miami and brag about how the cross country trip was nothing for them.
Fuck that damn tree
'99 Sugar Bowl did it for me. Insufferable team and fans.
This. So much damn this. I had never been outwardly hostile to another band until meeting them.
That was an appropriate response. FSU losing to unranked GT was a great way to open their season. They are getting ready for B12 or G5 play.
The FSU fan base just spouting on social media about Coach Norvell is a great watch. Keyboard warriors at their best.
norvell complained about possession and pacing, but that's feels like it was his game plan from the get go. It feels like he didn't have much faith in DiU (at least in downfield passing) and thought they could grind it out on the ground against GT. I'm not sure what's up with that highly touted d-line... And their kicker is legit.
Florida State will always be the first team to hold the 17th spot outright in the ACC.
Damn, came here to say this.
