You know, maybe UNC might be the most unserious 'brand' in football

That's gotta be the worse addition or upgrade to a stadium I've ever seen. You can't take any program seriously that tries stuff like this.

Looks like they've gotten rid of about 12 rows of seats for 20 seats.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

and blocked the view of another 20 more behind them

Wow, that is the most jacked-up renovation I have ever seen. It actually doesn't even look safe lol.

Imagine being the poor sucker's that have the seats now blocked by those blue shades

...or the ones in front when that lawsuit waiting to happen falls apart.

And, imagine being the booster that shells out $$ for this luxury box seating.

I feel like if this was West Virginia they would still be selling the seats under the scaffold. You know, they could call them "lower bunk" seating or something like that.

The UNC crowd might be a little too high-brow for that scam though.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

Yes but WV would duct tape that whole thing together so well it would never collapse while this looks like a death trap

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Amazing. Their Civil Engineering program hard at work

Is that a big weed growing up in the riprap there? Lol probably got so big that the grounds crew thinks it's part of the landscaping.

for all his faults, larry fedora's bitch fit after 2016 lit an absolute fire under fuente when it came to unc for the rest of his term

I been here since day 0.

Is this someone's senior design project?

Looks like it has Dan Snyder written all over it.

I would be pissed if I had seats in 131

The seats in that section typically didn't sell well, so they are taking away 30 rows of seating with around (eyeballing) 240 seats to offer up 20 wooden bar stools under a flappy tarp that still is facing the other endzone pylon on the field. Sure! nevermind that section is almost oriented north-south, so the tarp is going to be worthless for 330 kicks (checks schedule, the first game is 330...) or 600 (checks schedule, second game is at 6.)

I figure some Audi spoiled student's dad will buy them a suite for a game so they can show off in the corner. I mean, it is UNC, students don't care about football anymore, and why not go be special. Can't wait until the scaffolding collapses to see the scramble from the University.

Oh my, I have just been made aware of this wonderful addition to Wallace Wade in Durham...

For all the football programs in North Carolina, it's amazing that they don't have more than one you can take seriously. NC St is about as good as it gets in the state.

And Duke, UNC, and Wake don't take them seriously. Guess that makes your point...

App St probably has the best football culture of any school in the state, but they spent so long in the FCS that they're always going to be behind the likes of State, Duke, Wake, ECU, and even UNC.

But yeah, NC is a basketball state.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yeah if I ranked them on culture.

1. App St
2. NC St
3. ECU
4. NC A&T
5. Charlotte
6. Duke
7. Wake Forest
8. UNC

You probably could rank some of the high schools above the last three in terms of culture.

I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.

Having been to a game at Elon, gonna have to disagree with you there

Hmmmm, now I feel like loluva is missing out by just building a wall. Nah, the three people at the games wouldn't give up their prime seats for a thrill on the hill.

Practical question. I assume the allure is to stand and drink beer? And yet I see like 2 counters in that whole area? Makes zero sense. Update: researched this- All you can eat food, all you can drink- non alcohol- corn hole areas, picknick areas, etc. So its like an extended tailgate area.

So its like an extended tailgate area...for those that don't tailgate like Hokies...

Prices aren't that bad from what I've seen.

Might have to try that out for our game in November, to be honest.

Doesn't mean it doesn't look like prime amateur hour of a renovation

I wouldn't mind doing it either for a game. Jerry Jones built a party deck into JerryWorld was designed- its huge, they open these huge doors when the weather is good, and you buy a drink wrist band and you stand and watch the game... in the worst "seats" in the house. Brilliant idea for Jerry and his is actually designed to do it. Since then every NFL team has tried to retrofit one in, etc. I think the new Titans stadium has one in the design on steroids.

Jacksonville has the Party Pool or whatever they call it. If there's ever any action from the Jags, you won't miss it because you're peeing in the bathroom 😂

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Back in the 90s, the Richmond Renegades hockey team had a hot tub in the coliseum. Interesting, but questionable.

There is the famous pool at Chase Field for the diamondbacks here in PHX. It's actually only a few "tickets"- maybe 16? that have access to it, and it sells out a year in advance. I have heard they consider removing it every off season because of the overhead and how little it gets used in the winter, but they still sell it out to justify keeping it.

Coors Field for the Rockies has The Rooftop in the upper right field corner. It may have changed, but the last time I was there about five years ago, you just needed a ticket to the game. So you'd show up and buy the cheapest seats they had (a work colleague and I once got tickets for a grand total of $3), then make your way to the Rooftop. We liked it because you could grab a spot on the rail (it's all SRO - if you want to actually watch the game...), watch the game while drinking a cold Native, and then turn around and jump in line at one of the many bars when you needed another. It was primarily where the 20-somethings would hang out and meet people. Very few actually watched the game.

Coors Field Rooftop

"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

I go to new stadiums with my son when we can. My thing is that I always visit the "outfield bar" if there is one. Now it seems every stadium has one or several. I have been to that deck in coors- fantastic- essesntially 2 levels of bars. The one in Detroit is great. There is a whole outfield "street" in St. Louis. The Diamonbacks have a coors light bar with phone chargers and Dry ice counters- free with your game ticket. The one at baltimore is OK... they had nothing there for years on that roof, and now its been like 3 themes in 5 years. The lamest one is the red porch at Nats park- Lame-O... like empty and 2 draft offerings.

When I lived in Atlanta 20+ years ago we used to do this at the old Turner field outfield bar (pretty sure it was called the chophouse buy I may be remembering incorrectly). Just by the cheap tickets and hand out at the bar. Every now and then you could see a very drunk Ted Turner hitting on 20 somethings.

Man our society continues to have a shorter and shorter attention span. Can people not buy tickets to a game and actually watch the game? What is the point of buying a ticket and going in the stadium to play cornhole and have a picnic but not actually pay much attention to the game?

Roger Goodell who makes decisions in decades vs. hours mandated in 5 seconds that all NFL stadiums have upgraded free WiFi and out of town deep stats shown so that folks could follow fantasy football- WHILE watching a live NFL game. There is no attention span anymore. The Cardinals added casitas- little permanent tents- to the endzone this year. 1. ground level endzone seats are the worst for "watching" the game live. 2. The purpose is to distract you from the game with TVs of other games, lounge chairs, coctail waitresses etc- all at a premium price. If amusement parks could somehow charge more for the worst rides, they would.

Without a football culture it's just an activity no different then going to a minor league baseball game. Have a beer and let the kids run around, every now and then checking out the "action".

Definitely is an extended tailgating area and it's an add-on to your ticket. Additional $35 for students or $45 for others on top of your regular ticket to get access.

In-Game DJ?!?! That's horrendous.

When your football culture is that bad, you have to find reasons to try and get people to show up to games.

In game DJ didnt work out for FSU so...

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

Now imagine how much more entertaining their post could've been had they not spelled "Deck" correctly.

Somebody sitting in that top row of seats better get to Kinko's and order up some custom peel and stick blue on white "I" letters stat. The social media opportunities are tantalizing.

"Come watch some some Duke football from on top of the Devil's Deck!" I am sure nothing could go wrong with this name, not one little letter's worth of wrong.

Food better be f#$%ing amazing at that price! (not that I'd ever eat it given my eccentric appetite)

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

You're not paying for the food, you're paying for a nicer bathroom that gets cleaned way more often, the food is just a plus

The money goes to paying football players. That's the only thing that matters. Gotta keep up

That kind of thing is why I do think a renovation/expansion of Lane should be in the works over the next 5-10 years. We're going to need to keep up with these kind of luxury lounge areas and fan hangout zones where people can mingle while still having a view of the field, and right now we just don't really have many, if any, options for that in Lane.

I could see us doing something to fill in the corners of the SEZ with private suites with outdoor seating, like what Lincoln Financial Field did a couple years back....

Mirror that with some 'gamegating' zones in the opposite corners next to the NEZ, and that could be interesting.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I always heard that the corners of south endzone were too close of an angle and because of that can't be closed in even though that was always the goal.

I think they didn't close in the corners because doing so would have required VT to bring all connecting stands to the current building code.

They could build something like Alum07 is referencing as a free-standing building that wouldn't affect the surrounding stands but still add amenities/capacity.

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

Any renovation of Lane should include a focus on sound management (as in ways to make the noise even more deafening). Consideration of how sound is reflected and amplified might make Lane more feared.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

It's like the club level access at FedEx Field. Bars, food, tv's, seating lounges, tons of people jammed in there (well used to be 10 years ago and before. It was just a huge drunk fest party that happed to take place at a football stadium during a football game that the "fans" only took a glimpse of the TV's when the crowd starting getting loud.

At the end the day, a very expensive version of inviting friends over to watch football on the big screen in the basement chowing on take out wings and slamming a million beers.
