well....to put it lightly.....shit
while its a really far look ahead and I hate doing forecasts well over a week ahead however I just wanted to give you guys the heads up seeing as this weekend is going to be absolutely insane for me. anywho, this thing is starting to look a lot like the mondo storm we got a few weeks ago (ya know the one that dropped like 20" on us). anywho we have a low developing off the gulf coast that should pick up a lot of moisture and a low coming in from those pesky Canadians that will bring PLENTY of cold air don't you worry about that. things are shaping up for some potential next week fersure but until we wait a little bit and see where the low develops we wont know exactly if its going to hit. Up to this point my Euro overlord and several other models have the system moving off the atlantic coast thank god but at least expect some cool temperatures and a nice drizzle (probably like Tuesday night into Wednesday).
As it gets closer and if it looks more threatening expect more updates and snowfall expectations from me. As of now most models are pointing for just significant precipitation in the florida and southern Georgia area so if you are in that area expect some rain early next week for everyone up here I wouldnt hold my breath just yet but there certainly is some potential for it. I know I keep saying this is winter's last gasp so im gonna stop jinxing it and just say winters here for the next millennium... we're totally making up for some good luck with football game weather now (aside from the marshall game I suppose)
there is good news however, expect temperatures to be glorious this weekend like we're talking 50's and 60's...so yeah go outside and do stuff before it gets cold again and enjoy it while you can!!!!
GO HOKIES!

Damnit Canada, WHY DO WE LET YOU BE A COUNTRY?!
Shit is right...thanks for your update as always!
Ahh Home sweet home, Love Florida !!!!
Florida: Heavens waiting room!
haha ironically enough you guys might get the worst of this system, if I remember correctly yall got tornado warnings from our last front? am I right?
yes, but that was in South Florida, not really over whole state. I live in southern Brevard County and it wasn't bad at all...
ohh boy another FL member, how nice! Orlando/Windermere area
Yep, Grant, FL. I think BilldozerVT is in South FL from an earlier post I saw.
dude just stop. . . just stop it. (begins to sob) I JUST WANNA SEE FLOWERS AND SUNSHINE! (continues to sob)
I'm expecting that image to be blurred by the end of the day
Thanks to our own TKP Weatherman:
That is just so wrong. Did he not think about that?
Agreed, amazing huh?
Oh, I think he thought about it quite a bit.
What a cocky attitude!
If the weather does not improve, do we start sacrificing weathermen? (Not our own eshiben5, of course)
I think we have already seen the last winter snowstorm. -------->Spring starts this week.
So when will we see the last spring snowstorm?
Well, summer starts in June...
So August.
So just in time for football season.
Night game=Snow game!
well I was looking at all of the models after doing my GIS lab and honestly, at this point (its still a longshot) but I do think its going well wide of us, and if it follows this track just expect cold air. So lets try to stay positive here and say maybe...hopefully it wont hit us...at least that's what signs are pointing towards
Wait, what?
Cool.
Any chance, assuming this projected system brings precip, that it affects Central Virginia? Or would it mainly be to the west?
if anything the low is gonna develop to late and miss us to the east offshore. Temperatures are looking like they'll be low enough, im not saying 20" are going to happen again but there's definitely a chance that there could be some accumulation. the euro is saying its probably going to hit Tuesday night now, with the Blacksburg area getting the 4-5 inch range just south of us in the mountains of NC will get 7-8" along with the central Virginia area. Of course this is all if the forecast holds up.
northern Virginia will probably be looking at the 3-5" range as well. it looks like it will all be passed over by Thursday night and should head off the coast.
more updates will be coming later
Thanks for the updates. This winter, it really likes to after ya!
it really is though haha I was talking to one of the meteorologists for the Roanoke time and he was telling me how his preseasonal forecast was like 10-15" for the Blacksburg/Roanoke area and he was saying he was right on track for it until that massive storm rolled through and since then mother nature just decided to be a hoe....fasho.
anyway I don't think I made this particularly clear in the last post, the euro has changed its original forecast. Originally it had it going offshore within the last few hours its had it creeping closer and closer, and now its looking like a direct hit. I haven't looked at to many other models, but this is the track for a system we usually wanna be on the lookout for anything significant
Bury DC, I could use another three days of telework.
Glad there was no storm on the Pro Day!
Hey guys I just did my write-up for the wuvt weather station on my forecast and frankly this thing isn't looking to bad, I'd expect a light dusting probably 2-4 inches in the blavksburg area up into the Shenandoah valley, further east will see a few inches as well but nothing to significant.
Here comes the good news though!!!!!! This is it for winter weather. And I mean it. Hold me to this. Do whatever you damn well please because I'm very confident this time. The extended plots on the models are showing that after this cold front blows through the freezing line and cold air almost dissapears off the map. Expect temperatures to climb back up by Friday and expect our severe weather season to begin shortly afterwards!!!!!
Now wish me luck on my physics test. Yay magnetism and electric fields ...
Go hokies!
I've waited days for this update. Thanks very much.
woopwoop the storm's low has developed way later than originally anticipated thus its mostly going offshore. Expect lots of rain if you're closer to the coast but not so much snowfall. so yay! and also!!!!! I think I did pretty well on that the physics test for those of you who were worried
As much as I want to believe you...I know about that random fucking day in end of April/beginning of May that just wants to be "different" and be cold for no good reason. So I'll hold out.
well yeah but the norm is going to be significantly higher than now, cold air is retreating much further north. yes there is still a chance that cold air could come through depending on the strength of the front but I mean odds are it wont happen
***You are ruining my telework dreams....less telework, less time to write massive write-ups for TKP so it adversely effects everyone if I am not trapped in my house in NOVA because of the storm. **(Puts Ego back in the bag)
Forgot to add the starcastica
Sooo.... it's snowing. Eshiben5? Any thoughts/forecasts?
well, basically the storms a little bigger than I initially thought, I'm currently in my GIS lab doing some undergrad research so i really cant break it down to much mostly because...well i have 10 days to do an entire research poster.
Regardless, I thought temperatures would be a little higher than they actually are. This difference of my predicted 5 degree difference results in a change from a wintry mix to what we have now. Temperatures are still a little to high for serious problems. For instance as I'm sure you can see, snow is struggling to build up on roads and some sidewalks. This is because the roads have held in some extra heat. also temperatures are hovering right now, right around 30. They should be increasing but due to the amount of snowfall we're seeing its actually cooling the air around us which is usually referred to as the wet bulb. this is dropping temperatures low enough in some areas for accumulation. If you look at a radar you can see that dry socket i always talk about, riiiiiiiiiiight over central virginia and richmond. it barely missed us. like BARELY. we definitely got the worst of this. Virginia beach and that region are getting rain and central virginia is getting nothing and the valley is getting more snow than most meteorologists thought. The vast majority of the storm however is offshore check out the radars if you get the chance if that thing had developed sooner we would have been looking at quite the snow event in blacksburg again. so i guess we can count ourselves lucky there.
i do expect this snow to stop by 10 and youll start seeing winds REALLY pick up this evening. were talking like 30 MPH gusts over night before things start warming up. by the weekend itll be in the 50s and its looking like theres going to be some rain coming through thursday night/friday morning and most of the day friday. All of this snow should be gone by friday afternoon soooooooooo i guess thats good news.
After speaking with a few other meteorologists im really glad im not the only one who thought this thing was going to miss us only to be bitch-slapped into oblivion by mother nature
ALSO! my friend just showed me where i can pull GIS maps up online....prepare to have some awesome home-made precipitation charts in the future!!!!!!! also for those of you who are wondering i still think this is the last of our winter weather
