Help with watching the Marshall game.

Widely advertised that this week's game would be televised on CW Sports. While I get CW on my Dish package, I thought I was good to go. Now, however, I find out that CW will not be carrying the game and while it is available on a sub-station of NBC which has apparently bought out CW or something, neither Dish nor Directv are carrying the sub-station. This has left me without a way to get the game unless I go out and buy an antenna set up that still won't guarantee I'll be able to receive the channel here in the sticks.
Since I know I'm one of, if not the least computer/electronics savvy member here, I implore any and all folk who could maybe help a brother out. Anyone figure out a workaround? I know there will be some other unhappy Hokies come Saturday.

This should help.

Oh, you meant how to find the right channel to watch. I may be in the same boat...

Sorry, I will be at the game. You might be able to find a ticket out there.

. Now, however, I find out that CW will not be carrying the game

CW is still carrying the game? I don't have dish but just skipped through to the CW on saturday (on hulu and the CW's website) and our game is in the broadcast schedule. CW is a national channel afaik there's no regional adjustments to it.

https://www.cwtv.com/schedule/

(add if applicable) /s

Well, the regional CW broadcast isn't carrying the game unless it's on the Judge Judy show, and the person at the NBC affiliate I receive told me that neither Dish nor Direct was carrying it.
If places elsewhere are not similarly shut out, I will have to assume it may be a regional issue.
The persons both told me that the NBC affiliate were carrying the game on an NBC substation, problem is that I can't get it through Dish.

On CW here in NJ (Philly CW feed) via Verizon cable.

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

You sure you're looking at the 4:30 timeslot? Hard to believe they're playing Judge Judy reruns at 4:30

(add if applicable) /s

Still showing as on CW

Drink bourbon and do what i'm going to do - not watch it.

Your profile indicates you're in Matthews VA? If so, looks like you're on WVBT-D2 based out of VA Beach. When I search that specific channel schedule it shows Marshall at Tech at 4:30 pm on Saturday. It even looks like you get the ACC Preview show the 30 min block before (which isn't airing on my CW affiliate here in DC).

The issue is that Dish might not carry his local channels. The way Hampton Roads CW is offered this year looks like a mess.

Starting Sept. 1, viewers can watch The CW's popular lineup of hit primetime entertainment, live sports, and special event programming on our digital subchannel 43.2.

Yep, you nailed it.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

It does look like the CW is advertising it as a national broadcast though, so hopefully DISH gets it's sorted for you. https://www.cwtv.com/schedule/

Nope, not on my tv. Dish doesn't have a wvbt-d2, at least here. And yes, Judge Judy at 4:30 is on the guide for wgtn which is my cw station.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

That might be your problem, WGNT isn't carrying CW content anymore. Double-check your guide, it's crazy that WAVY/WVBT wouldn't televise Tech game they have rights to. I guess the problem is they can't broadcast them over the fox and NBC affiliate channels though. It might be worth contacting dish to see if they plan to pick up the new CW channel.

Let me know if you get anywhere. This is going to make watching games at the in-laws place a pain.

Wavy just acquired the cw programming and won't have it available until Sunday, according to Google. Essentially, I believe I'm screwed. Wavy is carrying the game, as I've said, but only on a sub-channel that Dish does not carry. I have scrolled through every channel twice in the program guide and it just ain't there.

I will be doing the Dish calls tomorrow. I will be sure to report. I have a feeling though, that I'll be going back to the olden days and listening to Bill and Mikey on a little portable radio. Oh well, at least I won't have to go back to the days that I couldn't get the game and couldn't even find out the score without squinting and reading the results in the sports section of the newspaper lost in the list of a hundred game results.

What is this 'newspaper' thing you mention? /s

Totally kidding lol- I too remember those days pre-cable/internet!

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

why don't you just go to a sports bar?

If you do, I sincerely hope you have better luck than I did with my last trip to one.

I live in Mathews Va. Sports bar? Ha, ain't gottem. I could maybe find somewhere in Gloucester, 20 miles away if I could find one. Then, I'll have to drive home after a fair bit less of my usual game day libation. No Ubers here either. I can walk to the only bar in town, but it's a pale imitation of a bar, and in no way a place to hang out for 3-4 hours even if I could get them to tune in to the game on their only TV. I don't usually envy folks in more urban environs, but it would be great to have an actual sports bar in this podunk backwater of a town.

Got it, sorry for the bad intel. I got an antenna a couple years back and it has been very nice for these exact scenarios. I see you mentioned that in your OP, if that's a route you'd be willing to explore, check this DTV reception map on the FCC website.

From my search it looks like you may have a CW channel broadcasting about 55 miles away (I used Matthews zip code). You can then use this website to help you identify antenna options to give yourself free access, don't necessarily have to buy from them but could at least locate a model that would work.

Good luck!

Thanks. I guess I'm just trying to avoid an additional investment in something for one game. Yeah, cheaper than driving the 5-6 hour drive, buying two tickets and buying dinner for whichever of my good friends we decide to crash at. But, we have no use, at this time, for the digital antenna. We did try a freebie from the local library which had them available to check out like a book. It didn't work very well, we got little from it. I think it has to do with the topography of the coastal areas, and we just really got high speed wifi recently, but I'll likely not do the antenna.

edit- deleted. Been a long day, same reply to the same guy🤦‍♂️

Can you get it on a digital antenna?

It sounds like I may not be able to watch it anyways (what kind of wife volunteers me for a cookout AT someone else's house, who doesn't like football, on a football Saturday??!!?)-more than welcome to use my Hulu acct for it if the location difference doesn't screw with it. Send me an email if you want to try it

Eh, she just took me to the Georgia mountains for a weekend of fly fishing so I can give her this one I guess😂

Although she did catch the two biggest trout of the trip...... you might have something

Thank you for the kind offer. We actually have Hulu, but we've been unable to locate the game on Hulu this morning since you mentioned this. I will investigate further. Wife wants to watch tennis so I'll work on it more in a bit.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Our Hulu channels list includes "CW17" and shows the game at 4:30 on Sat

Just the plain non-Hulu Live list? Ours has nothing about CW or the game.

Edit: I just spent an inordinate amount of time on Hulu trying to find the game, but my basic package just doesn't include CW. It is shown as an option, but only part of Hulu+Live TV. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'd really like to work around additional investment to watch just one game since I already have to do that to watch the ODU game, and I'll hope that Dish cleans this up before basketball season. Then there's the 10 a month to get the ACC channel...
Hope your fishing is better than ours up here. Sheepshead are biting, but I'm not really interested in that. Bigguns though, 10-19lbs.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

I checked my Hulu list (which is part of the Disney+ Bundle, with ads) and no CW listed, or Virginia Tech football this weekend in the sports section. I can watch VT volleyball and soccer, but no football.

I do have a digital antenna that I bought for $20 to watch Copa and Euro games this summer. Hoping the CW on there has the game...

sorry, we do have Hulu live

haven't wet a line for months but that should change soon

of course it has also turned into monsoon season...got 3" between 1 and 2 a.m. this morning...no wind, no lightning, just intense straight down rain

need to spend a couple days figuring out what on the boat still works and what doesn't...and warm up the credit card

I have gotten skunked most of the year while fishing. Hooked a monster cat down near the Claytor Lake Dam but the dang hook bent when I was finally trying to get it into the pontoon boat.

I have discovered that some of my equipment is going to need to be replaced this off-season. I have reels, lures, etc. that have been handed down since before I was born (turning 50 in December). Most work, but are going to need some more serious TLC this winter to be ready for the winter Pike/Musky season.

If tech plays like last week, get on the boat and go catch some nice blues. Should be a he'll of a lot more fun than that shit show we got to see last week.

My wife and daughter decided that we are going to the shore this weekend. Guess I'll find out soon enough if I'm glad I missed the game or not.

Recovering scientist working in business consulting

If you would be a new subscriber, I think Youtube TV still offers a free trial for a few weeks, which you can cancel at any time. And, I have confirmed on my YTTV that Marshall at VT is on the CW channel for YTTV.

🦃 🦃 🦃

Solid suggetion, thanks. Will investigate further today.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

I think your answer is to go fishing...

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Always a great suggestion, but my fishing this year is as inconsistent as the darned Hokies, and dammitall, I wanna watch the damn game!

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

OK, so far I've come to the conclusion that a 5 day free trial of youtube tv is the obvious solution, short of using Back's Hulu account.
I believe my basic Hulu doesn't include live events, so Hulu Live TV must be what Back has, explaining my lack of progress looking there for it.
Either way, I figure I can likely watch the game without springing for a digital antenna. We do eventually plan to ditch Dish, but have another year on our contract with a guaranteed pricing feature that was important to us.
As always, I would like to thank the community for their help in this matter of grave importance and dire consequences for failure!!! Now, anybody have a way to get ESPN+ for free? I know, I know...pony up the ten bucks and hope the Hokies are too good to just be on that otherwise nearly useless app in the future. And who knows, if they lose to Marshall, I may just decide to listen to the ODU game and save that ten for crab legs on my birthday the next day.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Hulu live has a three day trial...

If you have/are paying for Hulu, why not upgrade to the Disney+ Bundle which gets you Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ for $13 a month?

Another great suggestion. It might be worth it just to see the Odu game.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

This may be the end of my search, and it hasn't been pretty. Tried the 3 day Hulu trial, but we already have a regular Hulu account, so we are ineligible for the trial.
Utube was more confusing. After signing up for their 5 day trial, I tried to access the CW channel and was informed that I couldn't watch it because I wasn't in my "home territory". Not only is that bullshit, I'm right here in my trusty LazyBoy where I've lived for 12 years, but there was no way to fix that. Tried to contact, and I found a phone number for it so I guess I'm still possibly in the game, but my inital call was cut off 10 seconds in and after spending literally hours on this stuff, I'm cooked. Maybe I'll rally, but it's really looking like old times and the radio.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

May have been covered, but ESPN plus seems the easiest, no? Just get a trial of that or even pay a month -9.99

Is ESPN + carrying the game? It truly didn't cross my mind to look, assuming CW had it locked up. I've bought it before for basketball, but haven't needed it for football until the upcoming ODU game.
If that would work, I will absolutely do just that. Thanks dc.

EDIT: I searched ESPN+ and saw a ton of games, ours wasn't one of them.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

You might have stated elsewhere, but I assume you are looking only at reputable purveyors of football streaming options? Because there are many less scrupulous ways to stream the game, if one so chooses.

Well, yeah, I was. Being unfamiliar with such less scrupulous ways also enters into the equation. I wouldn't know where to start, but I'm not really opposed to such things for, you know, a special occasion like this.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Well, it's all over now. After nearly an hour trying to actually get help at YouTube, I have officially given up. I know my problem here is actually with Dish, but regardless, I'm resigned to no stopping the action, rerunning the plays, bathroom breaks, beer breaks, food prep breaks. Man, hard to remember how I survived those dark days of the past when a Hokie game on tv was as rare as hen's teeth.
Last post on the subject and again, thanks for all the suggestions.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Not seeing it on YouTubeTV down here in the Augusta area. Anybody else got it in the SC area?

It's showing on live channel grid on CW 62 here in Greenville, SC.

It's a local issue. It's on all over the place, I'm just the loser this time around.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Yeah it's on CW here too. I just don't have an antenna for my tv and CW is non-existent on my YouTubeTV. When I search it says it's not on either. Guess I am SOL.

We still enjoyed the game, in the long run, and while it was nice to listen to Bill and Mikey again, the number of advertisements Bill had to read got absolutely annoying, though he's so smooth the ads blend in with the announcing as well as could be done, I guess.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Too late for yesterday, but on my YTTV in Charlottesville, I had to use a standard web browser to open tv.youtube.com and go to the screen that lets you hide or unhide channels. Found CW Plus East and a few other channels that I guess had been added since the last time I looked at that page hidden. Enabled it so it would show up on my Roku, and we were gold. You might want to give that a look.

Perhaps a more appropriate thread title is, "Help, I'm watching the Marshall game".

Or, "Help, I'm calling offensive plays".

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Or, "Help, nobody seems to be calling offensive plays."

Or, "Help, the Offensive Line isn't playing today."

This is going to be great for the ACC.

For future games, just come sail the seven seas with me on streameast (dot) app. There are some overlays that open adds in new browser tabs, but click through a couple of those and you're watching the game.

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

Aww man. Really thought this was a legitimate offer to start a new life as a privateer

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

Thanks? We should be good to go for the rest of the games, but I'll keep this post in mind for future reference. Aaarrrrgggghh!
