Even though we're not dancing, we can watch and root against Virginia.

Yay. I'm at work...
Class? What class? I'm staying home.
MAKE HISTORY
Go Blue Hokies!
If they win I will henceforth refer to them as such.
I'll just refer to them as Ballchinians
Once you see it, you can't unsee it
I dunno about ya'll, but I'm predicting it!!!!
I called out sick from work today. Cough Cough...
Tim,
This is your boss. Please come in immediately.
Tim,
This is your boss. I'm at home watching the games, so you'll have to come in immediately and cover.
*FIFY
"Arguably the two best days of the sporting year are on Thursday and Friday as the second round of the NCAA Tournament gets underway."
AKA the REAL first round.
Well, I waited to fill out my bracket until the I knew the results of the play-in games. I thought I was being prudent, but it turns out, I eliminated myself from the billion dollar bracket challenge by waiting too long.
Now, I can accurately predict 63 games no problem, but by filling out a bracket before the play-in games, you're basically predicting 67 games, which is almost mathematically impossible. This tournament is bull crap.
Sounds like a job for Daniel L. Crandall
Or the law offices of the aforementioned Daniel L. Crandall.
My girlfriend had a game in college. Whenever or wherever she or her roommates were, if a Daniel L. Crandall (DLC) commercial came on there was a required shot to be taken, immediately.
EDIT: She saw this and told me to correct my typos.
In SWVA? You'd be crunk. Constantly Drunk.
Yeah, while in Blacksburg. Those girls got rowdy from time to time.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that.
There's a lot of good games today. OSU vs Dayton is looking really good right now. I can't wait for MSU Delaware though, both teams like to run, and it's gonna be a high scoring game
I really like Dayton's HC Archie Miller as the next VT HC. Hoping that they beat OSU, but also hoping they don't make a deep run and bump up his price.
Now that the tourney has started and brackets are locked, list your final four/championship games.
I've got Florida, Arizona, Villanova, Louisville with Arizona beating Florida in the championship game.
I have 3/4 in common with you.
Florida > Michigan St.
Arizona > Louisville
Arizona > Florida
Michigan State beating Florida, Louisville beating Arizona, and Michigan state beating louisville for the title
I have 15 brackets going but my most often picks by bracket were Florida, Iowa State, Creighton, Louisville, of that four, I would have Louisville beating Iowa State.
Ive got Florida, Wisconsin, Louisville, Mich St
Syracuse, Mich St, Arizona, Louisville
Mich St over Louisville for the championship.
Comment deleted since I do not know how to respond to original posts properly.
Florida
Mich ST
San DiAgo ST (in Ron Burgandy voice)
Duke
Who's your BIG WINNER?
I didn't want to pick MSU like all the experts, but I couldn't justify it. I remember how good MSU was at the beginning of this year (especially against us). That Pain kid is really good, not to mention their guards. I think they will pull it off against Duke in the finals.
Adreian Payne brings the pain.
He scored 41 points and went a perfect 17/17 from the line, setting a new NCAA tourney record.
He brought the Payne.
Florida, Mich St, Arizona, Louisville with Florida over Louisville.
I had almost the same, except Cincy instead of 'Nova.
And then Hah-vahd happened.
How about American up six on Wisconsin although its still early? Dayton leading Ohio State at halftime makes me happy as well.
Hey Rob can you make a VT coach watchlist and what time those teams are playing?
I will give it a shot. It will only touch on those coaches that we discussed in the two coaching threads.
I posted the schedule you asked for here: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2014/march/20/post-season-coach-watch-...
I plan to keep this up to date as we move through the tournaments. It has been updated with the Dayton result and the time stuff fixed so its actually the order they are on TV.
I have so much respect for Wisconsin. They are one of my favorite bball teams beyond the Hokies but by god every year they screw me in my bracket
Well they turned it on and are winning by 34 now.
I hate Wisconsin with a passion. The only team they could play against where I would root for them is the Dallas Cowboys.
or loluva
I used to have the shirt "My two favorite teams on Sunday are Washington and whoever is playing Dallas" I think my distaste for Dallas fans is way greater than my care for the Skins. I really get annoyed when someone tells me they are a Dallas fan but have never been to Texas.
Seth picked Dayton to upset Brutus on espn fwiw
And of course I stupidly changed from Dayton to Ohio State....starting to think that was a bad last min decision....
PITT is PISST
Wow they are crushing it. 40-16?? Really? with time left in the first half to boot.
3 minutes left in the 1st. They were up 33-6 when i posted
Colorado's pregame jam
wow what a good first game
Welp, there goes a billion dollars.
Still alive in five out of eight of my Yahoo brackets.
i have 3 brackets( 2 espn and 1 yahoo). Luckily the one for 1 billion i had Dayton (other 2 OSU)
I too lost a billion dollars. And it was glorious.
Way to go Dayton....Bracket Busters Central Awesome way to start the tourney.
Potential target, Archie Miller, looks pretty darn good with that win over Ohio St
Archie Miller stock up
Mike Brennan stock down
Just like the gypsy woman said...
Is anyone else worried that if we're able to lure Mick Cronin away from Cincy, and he puts on weight, he might look a little too much like Seth?
I'm still alive for the billion everyone don't worry.
woopie for you
dammit cincy
Cincinnati losing to Harvard would hurt my remaining brackets something awful. I would really appreciate if the Bearcats could put some real effort in for the second half.
In terms of VT coaching search, though, I wouldn't mind if Cinci dropped this one. Give Cronin a little extra incentive to get out of there and reunite with his old boss. Might even be cheaper, too
Cronin has done good work in Cincy but he still wasn't able to make them a dominant team in the Big East when it was a power house. Exit most of the good teams, Cincy goes to 1st in the American Conference this year, tied with Louisville. Best finish in the seven years in the Big East was 4th place. Finished 9th or worse five out of seven years. This is a concern because the quality teams he had challenges with beating regularly over there will be the same kind of environment he would be in at Tech. Louisville would be here the same time he would, Pitt and Syracuse are foes he knows, and Duke, LOLUVA, UNC would replace UConn, Georgetown, and Villanova so we could end up on the outside looking in all over again.
and something like this CANT happen in an NCAA Tournament game:
Cincinnati fails to list a player on their roster, called for Administrative Technical foul: Two shots and the ball for Harvard
Wow! Ooff!! That hurts...
My bracket is looking good so far. Need Harvard & Ducks to win.
Smarties vs. Sparties in the next round?
Yep. I've got Sparty winning that one...
No billion dollars for me :( Stupid Ohio State
I have mentioned in some other threads that I missed this one too. I think it is glorious.
Cincinnati is just trying to give this game away. Four turnovers in the last two minutes of play already.
And ESPN Gamecast misses so much especially at the end of games that I have to find a better way to stay in games while at the office.
Congrats to Harvard with the win.
Albany has some god awful uniforms
Purple in the front, yellow in the back. As my friend just said, "the mullet of basketball uniforms."
Ugly or not, they are putting in work against Florida. Hopefully they give the Gators all the can handle.
Givin' Gators 1st half fits though. Doubt it will last though.
I will still stipulate that I am not a fan of the automatic qualifiers. So far you have as many ugly blowouts as beautiful competitions. I know it gets better but it just irritates me to see some of these totally outclassed teams get blasted when there are teams in the NIT or sitting home because they declined when they didn't get an NCAA bid that would run circles around these teams and would have been solid matchups against the better teams.
Additionally, the outclassed teams might not have been so outclassed in the NIT so you would benefit with possibly two better games instead of at least one really bad one.
It hurts a little tiny bit that Finny-Smith is co-leading the team in points with 10 in the first half while coming off the bench.
how about the boss button on the live feeds on cbssports.com? I always thought that was funny.
Totally used it today lol
I haven't seen it but if it is what it sounds like it is, then CBS rules
i have the same final 4 with Louisville winning it all again...unfortunately, i went out on the billion dollar bracket on the FIRST friggin game thanks to Dayton.....sigh....hope we can do the same to tOSU in football in September...
oops...i meant to post this in response to historyhokie above....AZ state, Florida, Villanova, Louisville - final 4
This St. Joes v UConn game is a good one. As much as I dislike UConn, I really enjoy watching Boatwright and Napier do work. If St. Joes wins it would set up an interesting crosstown Philly matchup with Villanova though.
Yeah, I think for long term entertainment I would much rather see UConn move on but seeing another close matchup like the OSU/Dayton game is always good too.
Gonna come down to free throws in this last minute.
Wow Really thought he was going to hit that shot to win the game. Overtime here we come.
We might legitimately see all the 12 seeds win in the first round if things keep going the way they are.
Wow that drive by Napier was amazing. Might have been the final nail for St Joe's
Well done by UConn, that's how you close out a game at the line: 16-17 to close the game
Come on Wolfpack, close out this 12-5 matchup upset. Lessgo.
NC State is the anti-UConn, missed 11 free throws from the 3:09 remaining mark to allow St Louis to send this game to OT.
Also, I just got an ad on TKP telling me to date Arab girls.
Assuming you recently went to this Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_horse
Does this mean you have Arabian blood, horse?
As good as warren is at everything else, he is equally bad at free throws. Hr would have had about 40 against us if he could hit a free throw.
Epic choke job by NC State. Hope they can hold on.
Not looking good. They cant get the ball to Warren, not sure why they aren't having him bring it up the floor just to make sure he has the ball. No one else seems capable of anything offensively....as Lewis hits a shot.
And then Warren negates a FT by stepping over the line. NC St just keeps shooting themselves in the foot.
but then creates a turnover, scores, and goes to the line again. Still only 6-13 from the line tonight. I wouldn't count on him being 6-14 after a timeout. ***Learned something new there, that they don't count the attempt in a lane violation***
Yea, that was a crazy sequence. The fact that he donked the FT didn't surprise me, though. Just a rough night and I think all of them are in their own heads now.
20-37 as a team from the line. That's ridiculous on any level.
Can we kick NC State out of the conference?
Yeesh, embarrassing
Wow, just Wow. Overtime was exciting and fun basketball but how they got there is the dredge of basketball.
I hate watching hack-a-suck basketball. I think to take that kind of garbage time basketball away, any foul in the last two minutes in the backcourt should be three free throws. NC State still might have lost the game.
The last two minutes of any half shouldn't take the same amount of time as the previous eight minutes of game clock which is what happened in this game.
that was painful to watch. epic choke job by the puppies.
I think you should be able to decline free throws for the ball back just like you get before the bonus and just like in football. I don't think they should give you a whole new shot clock, but it would mean teams getting wins in games where they outplayed the opponent. It unfortunately would also make for some less exciting games however. But the opposing team might actually try to get a steal than purposely (aka intentionally) foul in order to win a game.
I like this idea much better than my three free throws. It makes more sense and would be much more cleanly done. Ball should automatically advance to the front court in this kind of situation.
I watched basically identical basketball three times over last night. Every two-possession game takes on the same character - just foul and hope you can come back. It's horribly boring to watch. I had a radical thought while watching, similar to what you're saying about increasing the penalty. These intentional fouls are clearly not done in any effort to play the ball, so why the heck aren't they flagrant fouls? I say enforce those rules. That would make the last 2:00 or so way more interesting in close games, such that teams are actually forced to play defense rather than just slap somebody.
I would be perfectly fine with this being the result as well because I agree with you. The ref should be able to tell if they are going for the steal versus just smacking someone. If they think its an attempt at the steal, than its a normal foul. If its just a smack, its intentional and should be treated with a technical. I believe two technical's and you are out of the game, so that would also discourage coaches from having players get technical fouls even if they only have 1 personal foul in the game so far.
North Dakota State University basically just did the same thing as NC State. Winning the entire game, looks like they may blow it down the stretch. Tied at 66 with ten seconds left with Oklahoma having the ball.
Going to OT again with a 12-5 game
UConn/St. Joes; NC State/St. Louis; ND State/Oklahoma. I DONT EVEN WATCH BASKETBALL AND I AM LOVING THIS
come to the darkside
I think once I start actually seeing fouls instead of just waiting for the whistle I will have crossed over
Good first day so far
North Dakota St winning the game and breaking all of my brackets. Very good win for them. They stood tall down the end in OT.
I was listening to ESPN Radio last week and this game was a common upset alert. The analysts I heard from all thought this was a really bad match up for Oklahoma. They also drew a lot of attention to Dayton/OSU. Seemed to be a pretty common theme.
Edit: Harvard was consistently in the discussion as well
Rumor has it Coastal Carolina as well.
It would destroy my bracket, but that would be SO sweet
Yesterday at around 12 I feared that I made a mistake picking OU over NDSU. And I did.
Mercer giving Duke all they can handle. 1 point game at the half.
Yahoo just published my Top Five Tips on March Madness, let me know what you guys think:
http://voices.yahoo.com/bracket-madness-tips-toppled-12579466.html?cat=14
Congrats man!! That's awesome!
Well-written and reasoned thoughts on the "madness."
Nice job!
Of course I publish that and then Duke goes and loses.
*Sniff
Our ltrepeter went off and made himself successful. So proud
Love it, ltrep
Ahhhh Duke is gonna lose and im missing it! Damn it i called out sick on the wrong day!
yessss dooook is going to lose!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it! Bye Bye perfect brackets all over the world.!!!!
Whoever put the counter up to +9 and in the process gave me turkey leg #3,000, I appreciate it.
Mighta been me. You're welcome
This is great, since my chance at a billion dollars ended in game 1, I'm rooting for chaos.
Long live chaos.
I feel like I submitted my billion dollar bracket and was thinking, "I either want all of this to happen or none of this to happen."
Duke just went and #goacc'ed themselves
MercerWhiteBoyDance.gif please
Would have to imagine there are no more perfect brackets now. These upsets arn't helping my early round scores in the KeyPlay pool but could pay dividends in later rounds
There will never be a perfect bracket in our lifetime... the odds are astronomically small, and it resets itself every year.
I think its something like, if every human on earth filled out 1,000 brackets, and each one of those had a different result than ANY other bracket on the planet, then there would be a winner.
Every human on earth would have to fill out about a billion brackets, and all would have to be unique to guarantee a winner.
But that's assuming every game is a 50/50 toss up, which isn't really accurate. Just assuming that all the 1 seeds win their games against 16 seeds eliminates like 8.65 x 10^18 possible outcomes.
i think i saw there were only 18K perfect brackets left. That was before Duke lost. Im sure that number has tanked
I think Mercer celebrated on behalf of everyone.
This is the gif I use for celebrating things from now on.
You just churned out that gif in about 15 minutes after this aired
That's the one! Thanks!
P.S. - I actually saved this for future use as MercerWhiteBoyDance.gif
I think that's one of the best player celebrations I've ever seen!
That farting noise you hear is my bracket
That is a MAJOR face-plant.
So when LOLUVA loses to my Chanticleers tonight that leaves Pitt, 'Cuse, and potentially UNC (although, they could easily lose) left in the tournament representing the ACC. I'm not counting L'ville yet (when does that become official?)
ACC doesn't look very good
with as bad as VT has been, I don't really care right now how good the ACC looks in basketball.
In fact, if the ACC looks incredibly weak in the Tourney, it takes a lot of the air out of the Hoo sails right now, and thats perfectly fine to me.
don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining, just observing. I'm not huge on 'conference pride' in any sport. I root for the Hokies to do well against anyone and everyone...outside of that I don't really care about any of the other teams in the conference. I don't root for other ACC teams just because they're in the ACC.
Duke treating NCAAs like 'our last game'
This was the WRAL headline this morning down here in Raleigh. Have to admit, the prognostication skills of the editor are awesome.
This year's tourney is incredibly satisfying.
#teamChaos
I too am #TeamChaos
I'm just going to leave this below
Wow Kellogg and UMass laying an egg right now against Tennessee down 41-22. So far we have had a 9, a 10, an 11, two 12s, and a 14 win games. Tennessee would be the second 11 to win. I am officially #teamchaos
God damn. If I took a shot whenever one of my picks was down at the end of a half it sure would of taken some of the edge off.
Yah, this is a clear example of horrible seeding by the committee.
Are you telling me that a 5th place A10 team should be seeded 5 places ahead of the 4th place SEC team? (An SEC team that played 3 of the 4 #1 seeds a total of 5 times)
Don't forget also had to play a play in game to even get here
Duke played for the ACC Championship and lost. Duke then proceeded to play a close game in the postseason, but ultimately lost.
I guess we're in Bizarro World, because I'm talking about both football and basketball at the same time.
YES

Bracket Tie = Fail
At first glance, I thought they were bifurcation plots of a chaotic system.
I dunno, I think it's pretty awesome. He should pair it with some rediculous sunglasses inside and just go all out.
I've seen Craig Sager in worse. Much, much worse.
that was hilarious
I'm kinda surprised that people are shocked with the upsets that keep coming - I'm not saying I predicted them, but at this point college basketball has more parity than ever before.
Plus, there's not one team that is clearly head & shoulders above anyone. Picking a national champ this year is just a crap shoot. Too much is made about the prestige of conference strength now, as evidenced by ACC teams underwhelming so far. Think Coach K regrets his comments about NC State prior to Selection Sunday now?
I think a healthy Michigan St clearly head and shoulders above everyone
My dad was an MSU grad and I've been following MSU since I was a little kid. Izzo says this is his most talented team since 01. I think if they get a solid (not amazing) night from their key players, they'll win it all.
News is reporting that of the 15 million brackets in the Billion Dollar Bracket challenge, 3 are still alive...
Am I the only one who thinks that Josh Pastnor looks like Jon Favraeu's kid brother?
WOW, James McAdoo single handedlysaving UNC from the upset in the final seconds
Coastal Carolina up 29-21 right now!
15-4 run by the Blue Hokies. Draining threes all over LOLUVA
What an epic mistake by VCU.
#teamChaos
;# 16 CC taking it to LOL uva go CC ! Oh Well. Go Tigers !
havoc, LMAO!
Go Coastal Carolina!
SFA to Havoc
The folks at this bar aren't too happy. I'm laughing ONLY on the inside, because I don't want to start anything.
Wise indeed.
This town's bandwagon is ridiculous. I work with a lot of people, including VCU alumni, with three year old sweatshirts and t-shirts. Not many with gear older than that. I imagine that stunned disbelief is the prevailing notion at a lot of bars downtown. I almost feel bad for all of the bars in terms of lost revenue for the rest of the tournament.
I'm so glad that for the next week or so I don't have to load up Facebook every day and see "YOU DONT WNAT TO OG TO RAW WITH TEH RAMS!!!!11!!!!111 LOL"
Buzz>Shaka.
this has been a good day
it would be almost too good to be true if the Chanticleers come out on top..but here's to hoping!
for a college bball and hokie fan this has been the best day of my life
Anyone know where we can listen online?
http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2015-03-18/virginia-tech...
Let's go VCU!!
I feel like a new thread should be created for 2015.
Yeah I didn't realize it was last years until I posted...sorry!!
