ODU QB Grant Wilson is questionable for the VT game. This is fine. Everything about this is fine.

No.
fwiw; I believe we win regardless.
I will only start to worry if the 2nd and 3rd string QBs are also out.
Uh oh...
Never doubt a backup
Backup QB throws for 500 yards. Seen this movie, bad ending.
I processed this as Grant Wells and was hella confused for a solid 6-7 seconds
Wells does have 3 years eligibility remaining, so I wouldn't be surprised if he is at ODU.
and have the game of his life and beat us! lol
Can we do a deep dive since 2000 on backup QB records.
its bad. real bad.
Plz no.
I have never heard of Diante Vines but now I'm instantly terrified of him
name is kinda all-namey too :/
It's ok, Vine's been shut down since January 2017.
Scratch that I thought the backup QB was Vines
We're all good I think
Suddenly, the defense forgets all their jobs.
Just kidding, I hope.
Waiting for this to be Pry's "shellshocked" moment when backup QB looks like a Heisman contender.
Prepare for the backup to have a career highlight game. Got it.
Thank You Whit Babcock. Thank You. You did it. You took a top 15ish football program that won 7 conference titles and major bowl games and turned it into a program that is on equal footing with Old Fucking Dominion University. Your fans are scared to death the team has to play at their 25K seat clown stadium and we fear ODUs fucking backup QB. You did it Whit. In a relatively short period of time you took a legit P5 program to below JMU and on equal footing with ODU and Liberty. ODU started playing FBS football 10 years ago. They have one bowl win- over eastern michigan. And on this day in 2024 Whit, we are worried about losing to their back up QB. Thanks Bro- you did it. You regressed VT football to be no better than ODU- 10 years after they fucking starting playing in FBS. Congrats.
In his defense, he and everybody thought Fuente was going to be better than he was. Pry was a long hanging fruit with a fairly expensive price. I think he needs to turn around this year quick or the end of the road might be for both of them. If Sands cared more about Football Whit might already be gone as much as he has done wonders for the non revenue sports.
Bottom line is that in 2024, the program is basically ODU. over the span of 2 head coaches- that's on Whit. if the rumor that Fuente went to him and asked for Barry fucking Odom and Jerry Kill to be the full time OC and whit didn't want to pay- well I'm starting to believe that. I have on very good authority that with Olympic head coaches, Whit changes the dates on their current deals and gives them 24 hours to take it or leave it- basically a COL raise and that's it. And fair warning to this board- before the game. If Brent Pry loses to ODU a second time, I am not going to call for him to be fired, no. However I will be done with him in my mind as a serious/good football coach here. And I will count the days until he spins wheels for 2 more years and gets fired then. A good football coach will have this team prepared to play a clean game and beat a bottom 3rd sunbelt team. No fucking excuses. If he loses Saturday- he's not a big time coach. And nobody on here can wish it so.
My response was in the other thread. I am not worried about Saturday. If he loses to ODU, I want him to resign on the trip home. If we have another losing season, I half expect Sands to fire both Whit and Pry at the end of the year. You don't often get a chance to miss on three football coaching hires.
I called for Fuente to be fired post ODU- during the season, yes. I was at that game- it was conservatively 85% VT fans. Our defense was absolute shit. The corners could not cover me. No adjustments were made. If you are Fuente and Bud has his head up his ass- even if he is the legendary Bud Foster- you step in and fix that shit. The head coach has to see that Bryce Watts - can't fucking play. I won't mention the loss of control of the team, fights on the bench, etc. Wiles and Bud aren't without blame, they forgot how to coach that day- but for fuck sake man. If Pry loses to ODU in a tight game without Delane being torched 20 times and payers punching each other, like I said- maybe not fire him, but you know right there he is not a big time coach either.
"This is dcwilson's raging bile duct."
If we lose today I'd rather Whit get fired before the bus gets home and let the next athletic director- hopefully someone who's got a decent football brain- figure out where to go from there.
I mean, if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. I suppose you can argue that Whit should've been fundraising better, or cutting other stuff for other sports?
But yea, if Pry doesn't work out, Whit's not making the next hire.
That's not what happened.
If a story gets repeated enough, it becomes fact in the minds of many.
There was also a factoid on the game summary page for ODU's close loss to SC about how they have only had two wins over P8 programs, both of those being VT.....
We are on so many of those fucking lists. Its pathetic. JMU, ODU and Liberties best wins in program history are against VT.
Don't forget the fedex loss to boise st.
Yeah they were highly ranked and had a decent team, but it was boise fucking state of the mountain west conference; a gimmick team with a gimmicky blue field...
Just saying, i don't think it's fair to lump boise in with the likes of those other. I hate the blue field too but those boise teams were good. They won the 07 fiesta bowl against Oklahoma. They went 14-0 in 2009 and beat oregon. In 2011 they went to Atlanta and beat Georgia. We still should have won that game if we hadn't sucked out the gate, but that loss is much less shameful
It was literally a top 10 matchup and arguably the biggest game of that weekend
"There was also a factoid on the game summary page for ODU's close loss to SC about how they have only had two wins over P8 programs, both of those being VT....."
To be fair, the decline started under Beamer, and wholesale changes were needed, just to not lose ground.
Yes, Whit hired Fuente and kept him too long. But Pry has made some necessary changes, even as the struggles on both sides of the ball have continued.
Nobody said it college footballing was easy.
Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Rahne!
Colton Joseph is from really rich area of Orange County. For context, he is from the same neighborhood that Kobe lived in. His HS is the equivalent of Langley HS. Not sure that's relevant, but interesting to see.
Quickly looking at his HS film on 247, he does have skills. I'm not sure why he's rated so low and I see why his WR compares him to Manziel. He has a quick release, he's shifty and pretty fast, and is accurate even while moving. He put up pretty good number his senior year. His HS competition is fairly mediocre though. This is one of those mysteries. Is he secretly good because he is from a HS known for yachting and not football? Or did he just look good against less good competition?
"Is he secretly good because he is from a HS known for yachting and not football? Or did he just look good against less good competition?"
Sadly, a lot of us fear that regardless of which of those things is true, he will light us up given the "less good competition" part.
FWIW, I do think we win the game and break the ODU road curse. Not as down on the team as some. But I suspect it won't be a dominating performance. Hard to see us dominating many people.
Yea. I'm not down on this team either. I think there was a false misconception of Vandy and that VT should have steamrolled them. And, there were plenty of signs and suggestions to support that notion. But, Vandy could be decent, like mid-ACC-level decent.
That said, I am counting on Bowen and Drones to hit their stride this week or next. And hopefully the O-line gets to a level of competency. They don't need to be excellent, but competent. If these things don't happen, then the team will regress from last year.
I would say this post did not age well, but I think it did. Because losing at GA State by a field goal is very much something a mid-ACC-level decent team would do.
Yea, that's pretty bad. Georgia State was predicted to be last in SBC (behind Marshall and ODU). It's pretty crazy that GAST got the ball with 7:40 minutes to go, up 29-17, followed by this:
Pretty freaking crazy end to the game.
And GAST beat Vandy via passes on the outside against their CBs, which everyone knows is their weakest position. So, idk, maybe Vandy gets beat by everyone else that has a QB that can hit outside receivers complimented with an OL that gives the QB more than 2 seconds to make a decision.
For whatever reason, Drones has really struggled hitting outside receivers and the VT OL has been pretty bad at pass protection. So, VT was completely unable to exploit Vandy's greatest defensive weakness.
By all statistical accounts GASt got lucky and Vandy beat themselves with penalties. Vandy was handidly better in EPA and Success Rate that game.
On the boundary corner podcast, they had an ODU podcaster on. He said Joseph had a terrible spring and summer. Wasn't syncing well with the receivers. Sounded like a square peg in a round hole of an offense.
And will be a perfect fit tomorrow.
There is a true freshman on the roster that I half expect to start instead.
Well, he's playing.
And the reports from Nashville were that the Vandy offense couldn't move the ball downfield. So, Idk. My guess is that he'll be OK. Ultimately, if the VT offense does their part and the defense holds up, it shouldn't matter. VT is more skilled at every position.
Well this assures another Tech ugly nightmare in Norfolk!
Basically a poor man's Diego Pavia.....
I see what you did there...
So third and California is a lock for them. Got it!
