Downside of the portal- getting those guys to gel and buy into a culture. Also it's hard to win when your QB sucks- and he sucks... holds the ball forever, innacurate. If he is a 5 star, the rankings are bullshit. He's awful.

He has 21 rushing tds, >1100 yards rushing (which includes sacks, so it's definitely more than that). He's 6'4", 250. Cam Newton was 6'5", 245 at Auburn. Logan Thomas was 6' 6" 250.
Regardless, the point stands - this offense is not designed to take advantage of DJU's (admittedly limited) skill set.

BC, and their first year head coach, with an average ranking (from a **power standpoint) is really good. these kind of things always leave me scratching my head as it relates to the struggles with the VT football program.

Because even when BC was not good they had stout DL and OL. It's the fast track to success in college football you can pretty much look across the cfb landscape and see how good a team will be based on the size and physicality of their lines.

Eh..thats mostly been true, but when we beat BC 2 years ago, their OL was utterly terrible. I remember thinking..wow, they make our OL look solid by comparison.
That's what kills me about "OL are soooo hard to find in the Portal" we've seen plenty of meh teams turn over their OL quickly. Even Vandy had a reasonably competent OL...it can't be that hard.
Yet we continue to trot out mostly the same faces and shockingly get pretty much the same results.

Toledo was scheduled to play Maryland this year, but the Terps wanted to push the game back to 2029 (as if college football will still exist by then) so they paid the Rockets a cool $575,000 not to play.
That left a date open on Toledo's schedule, so in swooped Mississippi State with a cool $1.2 million for the Rockets to make the trip to Starkville.
Toledo happily took that money, too, then proceeded to boat-race the Bulldogs, 41-17, behind 325 yards and three touchdowns from QB Tucker Gleason.
If any other teams have, like, $20, Toledo is also willing to try to eat seven saltines in a minute or pound a gallon of milk."

If I'm getting DJU, I'm running the RPO/Shotgun triple, and he's never throwing more than 20 times max in a game.
